Howler

As President of the Manchester Chapter of the Untamed Sons my job is simple: defend our territory and expand our reach. Ravage sent me here to build an empire and over the years that’s what I did. I carved out a slice of paradise for me and my brothers. We reaped the rewards of that peace, until a brother’s ex turns up and tells him his daughter is in danger.
None of us knew of Pia’s existence, but she’s a brother’s kid and that makes her family. We ride out to confront the club she was taken by and as soon as I lay eyes on her I know she’s mine. Beneath the bruises, I can tell Pia is beautiful and I’m instantly drawn to her. She’s also off limits, but I can’t stay away. I want to heal all her wounds and show her she’s not broken by what happened to her.

Pia

I never expected to be taken as payment for my ex-husband’s debt. The Road Jesters MC used and abused me in ways I can never recover from. When the Sons rode in to save me, there was only one person I trusted: Howler, their president. I should be terrified of him, but he soothes the demons that stalk me now. I don’t understand why his club saved me, but as truths are revealed I realise how tied I am to the Untamed Sons and that Howler will do anything to protect me from the threat of the Road Jesters.

I told myself I would take a break and then get back to Jessica Ames' books. After reading Ravage's MC books I was intrigued by the Manchester charter group so here we are!

I should also mention that I met Jessica at the RARE 23 London event last weekend, and it was amazing, she remembered me bothering her about character ages for my reviews.

Now onto Howler - sadly this book has heavy themes and we do get descriptive rape scenes so if this is not for you then please be aware of that. It happens right in the first chapter of this book. Pia was taken in exchange for a huge debt her husband Max had racked up with the Jester MC. She is kept in the clubhouse in a dirty locked room to be raped and abused by the MC members. Wrecker who si the one that initially took her is the worst and the President of the MC, he abuses her and it's a lot of hardship. I hated this, I felt her pain as she was just used and abused constantly with no end in sight.

Thankfully Howler and Pia have a connection that will lead them to meeting each other but first her rescue! Pia's mother shows up at the clubhouse and asks for Socket who happens to be Pia's father, Pia never knew of him and never met. It's revealed he was sent off to prison at 19 right before Pia was born and stayed there for 15 years. He made a choice to not be a aprt of her life since he could never bring her anything good and made the tough choice to step aside but he always kept an eye on them and sent money.

Pia is rescued after Howler and his MC kill everyone and destroy the club, but Wrecker gets away.

Pia, being untrusting of everything and everyone that involves MC's is hesitated to let them help her but eventually agrees and realizes she is not amongst monster this time and understands they are different. They are looking for Wrecker and Max to be able to tie up loose ends and keep Pia at the clubhouse until further notice.

Howler aka Jake and Pia develop a friendship and trust first before they both give in to their attraction. She is not ready for anything sexual, and Jake is nothing but patient about it and never makes a move until she does.

I really liked him; he was a tough guy and had a lot of hardship himself, but he was soft for her and made sure she knew she was safe with him and always had her best interest at heart.

Once Wrecker is killed and Max if found and beaten to a pulp do, we finally get peace.

Pia's parents get married after over twenty years of separation and despite her initial shock of her father and not being sure if she wants a relationship with him, she accepts this and is happy for her folks.

Jake and she are together for months before they have sex and obviously before that we have love confessions and him expressing wanting her to be his old lady which she reciprocates.

BUT DO WE?? Once again Jessica keeps the momentum going where she reveals the next book plot at the end, and we are left in SHOCK. Blackjack did not make much of an appearance or impression in this book but oh boy will his story be fun!

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: Protector
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥

Pia has been living in hell since she's been taken by the Old Jester MC for the sins of her ex-husband and it doesn't seem like there's any way out when men bust into the clubhouse with guns blazing. Howler is the new President of the Manchester chapter of the Untamed son and when a brother's ex tells him their daughter is in danger, the club doesn't hesitate to bring her out. When the club rescues Pia, she doesn't want anything to do with any MC, but with danger still out there, Howler insists Pia stays with them.

Howler is a quick and intense ride that will grab you from page one! Pia is a super resilient girl who doesn't want to let her past define and let her monster's win. The story is a slow burn, but doesn't lack in chemistry between her and Howler. Howler is definitely the morally gray guy you want on your side and he'll go all out for Pia, but is willing to wait for her and let her set the pace. An awesome opening story for this new chapter of Untamed Sons!

Howler is the first book of the Untamed Sons, Manchester chapter and can be read as a complete standalone. It is told in first person from dual perspective. Sensitive readers should utilize the link at the beginning of the book for a list of triggers.

She is the breath in my lungs; she is the blood in my veins. She is the electrical pulse that keeps my heart beating. She is mine, and I am hers.

4 stars!

I love the MC world that Jessica created in the Untamed Sons series, so when I heard that she created a spinoff world in the Manchester chapter, I just had to get my hands on it! And let me say that Jessica did not hold back in Pia and Howler's story. In true dark romance fashion, there is some tough shit to stomach here fellow readers, but I loved the gritty yet sweet theme to this novel. It's so great to be back in Jessica's Untamed Sons world, and I cannot wait for more in this series ♡

A motorcycle club romance featuring a very protective Prez Howler and a damaged yet stronger Pia. She was held captive and abused by the president of another MC until rescued by the hero’s club. The story recounts their falling in love, Pia’s healing, family ties, and retribution. There is a nice overlap to the next story, book two.

Initial chapters very much drew me in until the story resolved itself. Stylistically, it was a bit of climatic beginning, story development, a second climax, then wrap up. Howler was a commendable character, a warm and caring president with the typical MC gruffness, and Pia as well was likable, not the standard, helpless damsel in distress. Their attraction blossomed smoothly over time within the MC world and other characters of interest. While attraction was strong, there was very little spice (for a reason but still).

Good pace, good story though for me, not very striking. I found it predictable, and the writing, repetitive: A statement expounded to similar statement supporting the same thought.

Overall, an easy read with great characters, a dark element and hint of violence stirring interest.

3.75stars-HOWLER is the first instalment in Jessica Ames’ contemporary, adult UNTAMED SONS MC: MANCHESTER CHAPTER dark, erotic, MC romance series- a spin off from the author’s Untamed Sons MC. This is Untamed Sons MC president Jake ‘Howler’ Ryland, and Pia’s story line.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there will be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Pia and Howler) HOWLER follows with the arrival of MC members Socket’s former love and the pronouncement that The Road Jesters MC had abducted his now adult daughter. Pia has been used as payment for a debt owed, payment Pia is paying with her sanity and her life. Never ones to leave family behind, the Untamed Sons MC go on a search and rescue mission for our story line heroine, a woman who has been broken by the Road Jesters MC. With Pia’s rescue comes a need for retribution, weeks to months of healing, as well as the search for the one man responsible for everything that went down. What ensues is the building relationship between Pia and Howler, and the potential fall-out as Pia struggles to move forward having discovered a family she knew nothing about.

The relationship between Pia and Howler is one of immediate attraction but Pia needs time to heal both emotionally and physically, and in this, Howler is with her every step of the way. Howler’s need for vengeance for the woman he loves is almost as strong as his need to claim our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

We are introduced to the members of the Untamed Sons MC: Manchester Chapter: Vice President Blackjack, Doc Mara, Socket, Pia’s mother Valentina, and Pia’s ex-husband Max, as well as Wrecker, Griller and Boulder from the Road Jesters MC. Blackjack’s story line is next.

HOWLER is a story of betrayal and vengeance, torture and abuse, family and relationships, rescue and redemption, forgiveness and love. The premise is raw and gritty; the romance is seductive; the characters are dynamic, broken but healing.

Dark But So Very Good!!!

Yay!! A spinoff on the Untamed Sons MC series and this time it’s the Manchester Chapter. Howler is the Prez and has worked hard to get his club up and running and cleaning out all of the garbage in his territory. When, Socket, one of his brothers learns that his daughter has been kidnapped by the Jesters the club goes to rescue one of their own…even if no one knew of Pia.

The Jesters did the unthinkable to Pia and left her nearly broken having given up any hope of being rescued after all of this time. Even when they get to her, she has no idea that her father was one of the men to her rescue since her mother kept it secret as to who her father really was.

This book was intense but the relationship between Howler and Pia was the real draw for me. Pia proves to be a strong woman who possibly has a chance of making it out of her own personal he**. I loved all of the supporting characters as well and I can’t’ wait until Blackjack’s story comes next.

Meh. This was just alright, honestly.
It was trying really hard to be deep and emotional, and the parts where Pia was going through shit, or talking about what she went through were for sure emotional.(TW for SA and a bunch of violence)
But I ended up not really feeling it too much because I wasn’t connected or attached to the characters at all.
It was just, Ok.

Dnf. I had a very hard time buying into the idea of there being an outlaw MC club running amok and going around shooting people in Manchester. Although I had a harder time believing the club bunnies walking around the club house in next to nothing, they’d be blue. I think not. Moving on.

A short MC romance between Pia & Howler. Pia has been through hell paying her husband’s debt to a MC and meets the MMC when she is rescued.

There were many things that didn’t excite me in this book: the way she felt close to Howler seemed too rushed and things progressed too fast between them without there being any deep dive into their emotions, everything stayed on the surface.
Also I was curious about stuff that didn’t make much sense like why her mother didn’t seek help from Socket earlier or why she wasn’t with her like all the time afterwards.

Anyway, overall it was an enjoyable and quick read- but make sure to check triggers before reading it.

Jessica is one of my favorite authors for MC romances. One thing I really like is she’s not afraid to really put the mfc through hell. But I think it makes it all the more better for when the mfc is rescued by the mmc.
I thought for everything Pia had been through she was incredibly strong. She was raped & beaten, but she refused to let them break her. She never gave up.
Howler/Jake may have been a tough & rugged biker, but he was incredibly patient & caring w/Pia. He knew what she’d been through, but he also felt an intense desire to protect her. He wanted her, but he allowed her to set the pace the whole way.
From the moment I learned Socket was Pia’s dad, I was so rooting for him & Val to reunite by the end! I love a first love/second chance HEA!
One thing about Jessica’s books is you can count on an ending that will make you need to dive into the next book. And I honestly can’t wait to read Blackjack’s story!

Omg.
What an emotional heart wrenching start to a series. As I adore most books by this author, I never worry much about reading blurbs before diving in, and even if I had, there is nothing that could prepare you for this book.
Bloodand pain poured from every page and I couldn't get enough. With everything that happened within them, it felt wrong not putting this on my top reads list. Her strength is inspiring but with the amount of demons and secrets laid across her shoulders, will she be able to heal enough to stand tall by her man?
You'll have to read to find out.
Adore the mother chapter of Untamed Sons, but this chapter is already giving them a run for their money.
Can't wait to see what happens next.

The first book in the series brings Howler and Pia's story. The author brings a cast of strong characters and weaves a heartbreaking story with Pia being abused and taken by another MC as payment for her ex-husbands debts. One look is all it takes for Howler to know she's his. But there are obstacles. It's well written with descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is a dark, emotional read. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I really like the MC world that the author created for this book. I really enjoyed the MCs themselves and how they hold themselves to a higher standard for an MC.

I love the MC family dynamic but how they are all "dark" characters. I would like to see more of Howler and Pia in the future. I think watching Pia continue to overcome her trauma would be amazing and I'm sorry but little Howler babies??? Sign me up

Not a lot of spice but the story doesn't need it. It's about a woman overcoming her past and trauma and she just doesn't need all that spice to get there...

Howler (Jake) & Pia

Great read & could use more. Grabs you from the first page through to the end. It has a HEA for a couple of characters, but incomplete with actual ceremonies & then the angst leading you into Blackjack which I will be reading next. So worth the read. My reviews are unlike many where I hope to interest the readers without giving too much of the story. That'sthe job of the author & Jessica Ames definitelyaccomplishedthat.(Reviewed by Lin)

DNF, not for me. I felt it moved too fast and although the content was dark, the writing seemed very childish to me. Just not my thing, and that’s ok! It could be your thing, give it a try!

This wasn’t a bad book by any means, but I was overall left wanting more. It just felt like something was missing to really make the book great. Howler and Pia were decent characters and I liked their connection but it felt almost too fast for me considering what Pia has gone through. I also think the conflict was resolved too quickly. This book would definitely have benefitted from being a bit longer so that certain things could be fleshed out a bit more. There was also some grammar and spelling issues as well.

Great start to a new series. Was it perfect? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Did I wish things had been fleshed out more and more emphasis put o healing instead of revenge? Also, yes. Yet, I did lime the promise this book had and will be reading the next book.

This book showed a different side of some MC’s. It is about the story of Pia and Howler. She turns out to be linked to Howler’s MC through one of his members, even though she, or any of them, didn’t know. They rescued her and something sparked between her and Howler, the president of the chapter. I liked how their story developed and eventually unfolded into a HEA, as well as I enjoyed the other characters involved in the story. I can already see this new series will be awesome!

This is the first book I have read by Jessica and I was even more interested by the fact it was set in England where I live. To read an mc book set in England was unusual and I loved it. I can honestly say I read the whole book in one go. It's now 6.32am and I have just finished reading. I never give book reviews with spoilers, I hate reading a review and knowing exactly what happens in every step of the book. It makes reading it pointless. However the plot kept my interest all the way till the last page, Pia gets out through absolute hell, so much that I don't think many would recover from, Howler is the Prez of the mc and they rescue her, they then seek retribution on the men who hurt her so badly. Other characters have their own problems to deal with during the book and I'm very excited to see what happens next.
If you like mc books that are full of drama and brilliant characters then please try this book. I usually read pnr books but really enjoyed this book. I guess if I had any complaints it would be that because I was enjoying it so much I would love it to be longer. I really enjoy long books I can get my teeth into, however that didn't spoil the book for me in any way. Looking forward to the next book.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

POV: First person / Dual
Genre: MC / Age Gap / Forbidden / Protector / Damaged Heroine

Pia has been living in hell following her abduction at the hands of the Jesters MC, as payment for the debts accumulated by her ex-husband. Despite the devastating actions taken against her Jesters, she never submits to them and holds onto whatever strength and dignity she can muster, even when it seems easier to give up than to fight. Pia has all but given up hope of being rescued and doesn't see any way out, until men bust into the Jesters clubhouse with guns blazing.

Howler is the President of the Untamed Son’s Manchester, and when his club brother Socket’s ex tells him their daughter is in danger, Howler doesn't hesitate to mobilise his club and bring her home.

When the Son’s rescue Pia, she doesn't want anything to do with them, her trust is broken and the thought of the Son’s being anything like the Jester’s terrifies her. But she finds comfort and stability in the unlikely figure of Howler.

Despite the horrific things that happen to her Pia is a survivor, she shows unbelievable and inspiring strength on working to move past it. Howler was so supportive, patient and vigilant of Pia, yet at the same time he was loyal, protective and vengeful, I loved both sides of him, he was such a fantastic character to help Pia heal and rediscover herself.

Pia and Howler had off the charts chemistry from the start, there wasn’t a lot of steaminess, but the story didn’t need it, what we had was more than enough for the emotional story we got. I really hope we get more glimpses of them, they just worked beautifully together.

Of course there are obstacles, there’s drama and violence, but at its core Howler is a book about strength and healing.

I would like to point out that there are triggering events within Howler, but the details are not excessive or used for shock effect, Jessica is respectful of the situation and dutiful in her exploration of the resulting psychological impacts associated with Pia’s experience.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

Triggers: Rape/Nonconsensual sex; Abuse; Torture (mainly of the bad guys); Trauma; Kidnapping; Murder

I wanted to start this review off with these trigger warnings because this seems to be a consistent theme throughout this series; but this book specifically shows it immediately.

Now, I am a definite mood reader, as well as someone who reads to escape the monotony and negatives of real life. So, I usually need to be in the mood and very aware of what I’m getting into when I read books that show things like the aforementioned triggers.

That said, I really enjoyed Howler. I actually read the first four books in a bundle, and I’ll write separate reviews. But Howler did an amazing job of bringing us into this dangerous, dark world while not stripping us down emotionally in a way where there was hope and happiness. Could this book have done with less visualization of the trauma the FMC was going through? Yes. But the author wrote it in a way that once you got past that part of the book, it really helped highlight the FMC’s journey and character.

The MMC? I genuinely loved Howler. SO MUCH. I appreciated the balance the author gave us where we weren’t seeing him hookup with anyone else (even before they met) so it kind of set the scene well for just how quickly he connected with the FMC and how well he knew how to help/be there for her. I loved how the author grew their relationship slowly, in consideration of her trauma, but not so slowly that we had the “will they, won’t they” vibes. Because sometimes, that just isn’t necessary. He was a pretty big green flag character, considering he is a MC President.

I enjoyed the view into the other characters and relationships (though one directly related to the MC’s had a start where I wasn’t as fully invested in them). The author wrote them well where I was already connecting to others enough I immediately went into the next books.

I especially enjoyed how there was relatively quick justice and no more additional trauma lobbed on.

4.5 ⭐️

Howler/Jake and Pía

We were introduced to Howler and the Manchester chapter of the Untamed Sons MC in the previous books based on the brothers from the London chapter. He's the prez of the Manchester chapter that Ravage sent there to expand their MC. He's had to fight for their little piece of "paradise" it's lost him some good men in the process as well. Everything seems to be going well, and things have been relatively calm since the last war they faced. Then, one day, one of his club brothers' exes shows up with an unexpected surprise! She tells Socket that their daughter Pía has been taken by the Jesters MC, a rival club that took her to pay for her husband's debts. The Sons embark on a rescue mission and are ready to do anything they have to get her back. When they get to the Jesters MC, they find Pía but she is but a shell of the vivacious, beautiful, curvy, sassy woman she once was. She is now malnourished, gaunt, bruised, and broken inside and out. She is just so shattered by everything she has gone through at the hands of those vile men. Yet, from the first time Howler sets eyes on Pía, there's an instant connection that he doesn't understand. He does everything he can to silence the demons that she now carries within. He shows her what love truly is, and little by little, he helps her to slowly get back to a semblance of normalcy. It was hard to read some of the horrible things Pía went through, but I was so glad to see she was only bent and not utterly broken by the abüsë she suffered. They definitely earned their Happily Ever After! I can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the Untamed Sons Manchester chapter and the ladies that capture these men's hearts!
