4.2 out of 5 stars 197 ratings

A STANDALONE, STEAMY, MILITARY/BROTHER'S BEST FRIEND/SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE

I kissed her, then I left her. My best friend’s sister. The only girl I ever loved.

And that kiss? Gave new meaning to the words, “pinball machine.”

But the army called. No matter what, I am a man of honor. I’ll always do my duty. Even at great personal cost.

Now, four years later, I’m back. A little older. A little wiser. And unfortunately, the bearer of horrifically tragic news.

There’s no one else to do it.

I’ll go to the ends of the earth to find her.

But I don’t know what will happen after I hand her that letter.

"'The kiss was a goodbye when we'd never said hello.' With its incredible storytelling and poetic prose, Sol is a heartbreaker in the very best sense of the word. Beautiful, spellbinding, and kinetic, this is a story not to be missed." -- NYT bestselling author Kim Karr

About the Author

Leslie McAdam is a California girl who loves romance, Little Dude, and well-defined abs. She lives in a drafty old farmhouse on a small orange tree farm in Southern California with her husband and two small children. Leslie always encourages her kids to be themselves - even if it means letting her daughter wear leopard print from head to toe. An avid reader from a young age, she will always trade watching TV for reading a book, unless it's Top Gear. Or football. Leslie is employed by day but spends her nights writing about the men you fantasize about. She's unapologetically sarcastic and notoriously terrible at comma placement. Always up for a laugh, Leslie tries to see humor in all things. When she's not in the writing cave you'll find her fangirling over Beck, camping with her family, or mixing up oil paints to depict her love of outdoors on canvas. www.lesliemcadamauthor.com

This is my first book my Leslie McAdam but it definitely won't be my last. Having heard such great things in the lead up to the release of Sol, I decided to one-click and I was not disappointed. Not only did I get to read one of the best books I've read in 2017 - in my Top 10 for sure - but I've found another must-read author.

Sol is a book that is best experienced without knowing much about the book and it's story going in. The little I knew from the blurb and a couple of longer outlines was more than enough and I'd recommend not reading too many reviews prior to the starting Sol.

Leslie McAdam has an incredible way with words as she weaves a strong story about love, loss forgiveness, and the impact of war. The genuine and authentic way she deals with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) makes for a book that is as compelling as it is emotional.

Not only is the storyline incredible. But the setting of Sol - in Granada, Spain - was beautiful depicted and so richly described that I felt as if I was really there experiencing the sights, sounds and smells.

I shed countless tears reading this book. Happy, sad and heartbreaking tears - but it's not a book I would shy away from just because it's emotional. The mark of a good author is one that creates characters who are so real you can't help but feel what they feel. Trent and Dani are two fabulous lead characters who will work their way into your heart and soul. You won't be able to put the book down until you know just how these two make their way together and separately through all that is thrown their way.

"This kiss was a goodbye when we’d never said hello."

Oh and don't forget to read right to the end of the book ... discover how Leslie found her cover model Taylor Lotre 😍❤️

Sol is a fabulous book and I look forward to reading more Leslie's Lost in Translation series.

Loss, sadness, grief, hate, forgiveness, lust, passion, love, hot sex this book covers it all. Saying that I did struggle with the book there were lots of chapters where I wanted to scream at my kindle, Dani many have travelled the world but she was came across as childish in may ways and forever running from life. Even though Trent was going through loads of issues and 4 yrs younger at least he knew what he wanted in life and was prepared to do the right thing.

    ⛔️⛔️⛔️ SOME SPOILERS AHEAD⛔️⛔️⛔️

Trent and his best friend Degan join the army for 4 years, Trent has had a major crush on Degan's older sister Dani. Just before going in they share a kiss.

    4 years later ~
Trent's gone home but in unfortunately Degan's not. Suffering from grief and PTSD having to face fear triggers all-around him. Trent has to find his teenage love Dani and tell her about her brother's death. She's not easy to find she's all over the place with lack of social media. He finds her, breaks the news, gets close to her, she hides from her true feelings and always runs.

Danika has regretted her words to her brother for the last 4 years now with Trent breaking the news to her she can't deal with the grief. Her loves in life are yoga, peace and Trent but she won't admit that to him. She's a hot mess always ready to bolt when things get tough and to her they have Trent is becoming her life and that scares the hell out of her.

Will Trent & Dani get an HEA?
Will Dani flee like she always does?
Will the choice be taken out of both of their hands by the cruel world around them?

This is the first book I have read by Leslie and I was blown away. I fell in love with Trent instantly. His pure love for Dani absolutely leapt from the page and was a thing of beauty. I was immersed in their story and at times my heart clenched at the pain they experienced.

Considering the book is on the shorter side, I was surprised with the depth of feeling I had for Trent and Dani and how well we got to know and understand them so quickly. I eagerly turned pages and was truly greatful for the epilogue - I am always a sucker for seeing how futures unfold.

A moving, heartfelt story full of love, forgiveness, and freedom. Told with the honesty and pain of life and the world we live in.

This story is powerful. Dani and Trent's love story is heartbreaking at times. It's raw, honest and very emotional. This book touches on difficult subjects and handles them so well. There is also moments of sweet and plenty of heat. It's a really great story.

Oh this book made me smile.

Oh this book made me happy.

Oh this book was flipping good.

Tinker bell haired Danika, a fairy hippie wood sprite, is the object of affection of soldier boy Trent Milner who happens to be the best friend of her little brother Degan. Degan the coco pop muncher. Warning I know I said fairy sprite but it is not paranormal, just throwing that out there in case you sue me for misdescriptions. Not paranormal, I repeat not paranormal.

Leslie McAdam has written a lovely story of deep friendship with the tragedy of loss; the happiness of love with the fear of reliance and the relief and peace in forgiveness. All of the elements of Sol fuse perfectly together.

I am a Trent cheerleader because he makes me think of Sunshine. He is the sweetest guy. So immodest. So thoughtful. So Sol! Long may he live in the Sunshine with his glass not half full but overflowing.

    My absolute favourite quotes:

“Your denial is so deep you’d go a mile down deep into it and never see the bottom.”

“Dani, with light hair wild like a free form cloud on a blue summer’s day, held on to me.”

“Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. It’s self healing, self liberating, and self empowering. Without forgiveness, you are hopeless, helpless, and powerless. But with forgiveness, while you can’t change your past, you can change how you relate to it.”

That last quote is worthy of a 5 star rating alone because it is so, so true.

***5 ‘We Bought Our Ticket In the Sun’ Stars***

Since the description is all kinds of ambiguous, to say I didn’t know what I was getting myself into with Sol is one of those statements that will have most doing the heavy sigh/duh thing, but it’s true because what I guessed at was only a very, very small portion of what really would happen throughout the story. It was an emotional rollercoaster of a ride about redemption, forgiveness, freedom and learning just what it means to love and to be loved by someone.

I adored Trent from the first moment of meeting him. He has a quiet strength and once he chooses a path he sticks with it, even if it means take a few unexpected detours along the way. He has a huge heart, which jumps off the page throughout the book, but what I loved the most about him was how genuine he was about his feelings, wants, needs and even doubts.

Dani, overall I really liked the woman. I loved her carefree, I’m not afraid of taking on the world personality. I’m not sure if I could do all that she had done, but I loved that she did. But on the flip side, while she was adventurous, it was also a shield that she used to keep people and experiences and truths out and that drove me a little batshit because it poked holes in her “I’m all about freedom” spiel.

Their journey is all kinds of bumpy and is one that you need to go into blind to experience. What I will say is that they were very well matched in every way. The chemistry between them was hot and I loved how they not only balanced each other out, but helped the other grown and become stronger because they truly saw each other for who they were and loved unconditionally.

While this isn’t my first time reading a book by Leslie McAdam, it is the first where she is the only author and I really enjoyed the experience. The writing was engaging and flowed well. The pacing of the story was good and I enjoyed the dual 1st person POV. And while I enjoyed being apart of Trent and Dani’s evolution, I have to admit that where their story takes place played a large part in my love of it. Having spent time there many moons ago and having the time of my young life, it was fun to revisit it and I thought Ms. McAdam did a wonderful job at bringing the sights, smells and feel of it to vibrant life.

Leslie McAdam has gone and done it again.

She wrote two beautifully flawed and broken but relatable characters who you can't help but fall in love with from the first few paragraphs.

Their stories are one in the same in that they are both affraid and are looking for forgiveness and peace. Trent wants to meet his fears head on, while Danika wants to do anything but acknowledge hers.

The backdrop to their journey takes place in Spain, and once you've read this book, you will truly believe that you have been there. The places are real and breathtaking.

Trent and Dani have a very different outlook on life, both share common values at their core, even if they don't realize this at first.

One of my favorite lines from Sol has to be
"You had me weightless and grounded at the same time" I felt this line describes the emotional ride you are about to go on!

I connected to Dani and Trent. I felt their pain and their peace, loving Leslie McAdam in the process even more because she is gifted and and magical. Her passion for this story shone through and touched a part of me that needed healing.

Trent and Dani will make you feel all the feels.

Well why I have not read LM books before is beyond me. This book will tug at your heartstrings and for many open up your tear ducts as the water works flow.

For me I absolutely loved Trent and his story. Dealing with the loss of his best friend, PTSD and trying to reconnect with the one woman who he cannot let pass him by. Dani's character I didn't have quite so much love for but I understand that if this character wasn't the way it was written then this story could not have happened.

This story as a whole was a very emotional read and hits on not only the relationship between man and woman but also between best friends/comrades/brothers in arms. It shows the strength and unbreakable bond that not even death will sever.

A very soul crushing, heartbreaking story of letting love find you and become your home.
