His Heart: A Stand-Alone Romance Kindle Edition
For Sebastian McKinney, wrestling is life. He’s focused and determined. Strong and capable. Nothing, not even his biggest rival, will stand in his way.
Except a silent illness that almost kills him.
Brooke Summerlin is no stranger to adversity. Raised by an abusive mother, she’s learned to cope as best she can. When Liam sweeps into her life, she believes she’s found the impossible—a happily ever after.
Until her happy ending is ripped away. And Brooke’s greatest tragedy becomes Sebastian’s second chance at life.
Four years later, two souls linked by loss find each other. Although their connection is undeniable, Brooke sinks in grief that threatens to drown her. Sebastian is desperate to help—desperate to save her—even though he has his own uncertainties to face.
But sometimes love transcends the boundaries between life and death—between what is known and what cannot be explained. The heart that loved Brooke still beats for her. And the one thing that might save them both is love.
Author’s note: An intense stand-alone contemporary romance that explores the transcendent, healing power of love. You’ll need a few tissues (and maybe some chocolate), but trust me, their beautiful happily ever after is worth it.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2021I was apprehensive when I read the blurb of this book... I’m very much a happy happy everything’s great, they fall in love, have a row, the grand gesture brings them back together and they live happily ever after- just something light and easy to escape for a couple hours... but this... is is trauma. But it’s trauma with love, it’s passionate, it’s real, it’s the nitty gritty of life that’s suffered loss and abuse and devastation, it’s a story that you have to follow to the end because you need to know that even after all that sadness, there is always happiness, you just have to find it. Beautifully written book. Xxx
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 April 2021Ok, the story of Brooke and the abuse she suffered at the hand of her mother was awful. Her knight in shining armour Liam, a gentle and loving soul who helped her live her best life. Then all snatched away in seconds leaving a family broken and Brooke caught up with demons and on a fast track to oblivion. Four years and the chance meeting of Brooke and Sebastian leads to something more. This story touches so well into mental illness and the havoc it causes for both the sufferers and those who love them. So much read true as someone who has battled depression for many years, and also the truth in love is the one thing we all need in our lives. Great story.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 January 2021This was a beautifully written book. I am a massive Claire Kingsley fan but for some reason it didn't grip me as much as other Claire Kingsley books did. Still, a beautiful story.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2024What a lovely book. There were times when I literally needed to take a deep breath and stop reading for a bit as the emotion of Brook’s story was strong.
Really good read!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 August 2021Such a wonderfully beautiful story. My heart hurts for what Sebastian and Brooke went through both separately and together. Their whole story is full of love, fun and angst. Loved every minute of reading this story.
Definitely recommended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 April 2021I could not put this book down. Even though I’d read the blurb and had an insight into what was coming, it got me real good. There was tears and inner reflection and I needed time to sit with the story. Honestly could have kept reading more of it, didn’t want it to end.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 April 2021What a story! I mean seriously, this is not 'just' a Romance book, although there are moments of unadulterated lust, this is a masterpiece about grief, trauma, loss, perception, strength and determination. It couldn't have been portrayed any better.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2018This book is heartbreaking in places, very sweet in others and unfortunately frustrating as well. Brooke pretty much wore me out with her self destructive behaviour which went on way too long. Sebastian was a saint to keep on going back for more.
Sebastian is everything I want to read in a hero, but I just wish he's given Brook a boot up the backside to wake her the hell up a lot sooner. Her idiocy took away a star because .... stupid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hoffnung

5.0 out of 5 stars I had to put this book down and go in the other room to cry!
It is a gift to bring a reader through a roller coaster of emotions so tough that I had to stop reading, but make me want to know what brings these people back...and cry through the ones who don’t make it. I was a 29 year old widow when his unexpected death turned my world upside down. So this book was the last book she has written so far, that I had not yet read. I was not sure how I would handle it.
Claire Kingsley is an expert at running us through the emotional ringer and still delivering our happy endings. So I knew I could find happiness at the end, much like I have in my own life, but this book made me cry with revisited sadness multiple times. It was worth the ride, as bumpy as the road was.
This book has all the family members go through all the painful hoops, and also made me remember trying to convince siblings that yes, I was ok. I remember my own whiskey binges, my own guilt, and my own recovery so vividly. I wondered if Claire had been watching me.
I also remember my thoughts of “didnt I already have my true love? Who is this guy?” And like our heroine, I remember the guilt of thinking how audacious I was to think I deserved another great love. I also remember my future mother in law giving my new love’s ex girlfriend our phone number.
But by 2/3rds of the way through this book, while our hero and heroine struggle through these periods of recovery and redemption, I also remembered my own journey.
HEA, they do come in Claire’s books, and lucky for me, in real life too! Enjoy the good cry, and the bumpy ride. It was worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart-wrenching story of a heart which loved Brooke.
Liam was an angel for Brooke. Brooke loved him not only because he saved her from her mom or took her for the dance but also because he made her feel safe.
“The relief that washed through me was so strong it warmed me from the inside, burning away my fear and shame. With Liam, I was safe. With Liam, I was home.”
Until, she has to face the greatest tragedy of her life. Her life fell apart after that accident. She lost herself in the pain and hurt; she almost destroyed her life to numb the hollow in her heart.
At the age of eighteen, Sebastian defeated his biggest rival, but that very fight was the last fight in his wrestling career. From that point, he had to fight to stay alive. At one point, he had lost the faith in himself and his life. But it was not his time yet. A ray of hope shinned brightly giving him the second chance at his life. He recovered with a new heart, but the heart which gave him life also brought love in his life. Not immediately, but soon he met the love of his life.
One look at a girl across the street and his heart starts beating again as if it has found its purpose of living.
“And I knew, with every ounce of my being, that she was Brooke.”
Brooke was too broken and self-destructive to live her life on the right path. Sebastian saw right through it and was willing to do anything to help her. He helped her to start fresh but the path was not easy. She was trying to fix her life but the pain was unbearable and the pull of his heart was undeniable.
This book takes you on an emotional turmoil. It shows you the unconditional love of Liam and Brooke, the heart-wrenching pain of Brooke, the defeat of Sebastian’s will to live; also the second chance he got at his life. This is the story of a heart shared by two and loved by one. His heart loved her enough to find her again. It’s a beautiful story by Claire Kingsley. I have also mentioned this in my previous reviews that I like her writing because somewhere we can relate to it, it is realistic. The self-destructive pain of Brooke, her depression is quite normal thing faced by most of the people after losing the loved ones. Sebastian’s silent support and love made Brooke strong to feel love again.
I loved the friendship between Charlie and Sebastian. Even the worst times can bring good in your life; Charlie’s friendship was the good thing that came with Sebastian’s illness. Their friendship is truly amazing. And also Olivia and Brooke’s friendship is precious.
I will recommend this book to all the people who believe in love and also to those who follow their heart. It’s an amazing book for all the romantic souls out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brooke and Sebastian <3
This is definitely a tear-jerker! Being a re-read, even though I knew what to expect, it still did not stop the onslaught of emotions I felt. I have always loved Sebastian and Brooke's story. My heart absolutely breaks for both of them, and it was bittersweet yet beautiful how they fell in love with one another after experiencing so much heartbreak. This will forever be one of my favourite romance books.
