Little late to the Beyond Today party - at least in respect of my review! But, from the potty-mouthed Hannah (my favourite) to the dark and broody Howard, this contemporary romance, set in the beautiful regional town of Bright, is fabulous! If you love your characters to have to work for their happy ever afters, and you want your romances to come with big dose of humour, this story is for you.

When Hannah meets Howard, the elusive best man in her friend's wedding, Hannah is instantly drawn to the damaged alpha because they share a connection that makes her heart race and her head spin. But his past, his family and how he slaked his sexual needs keep him prisoner, and challenges her faith in people. With time, Hannah sees the real him, but when he does the one thing she can’t accept, her own demons whisper: Run away from the only man who has ever made her heart full.

- Reviewed in Australia on 22 August 2019I really enjoyed this story, especially how it described where it was written. I’ve been to that area and it’s beautiful, and the author did a good job of bringing it to life on the page. I fell in love with Howard straight away. He wasn’t your usual Alpha and he certainly wasn’t an Alpha-Hole. He also wasn’t the traditional Billionaire type either. His backstory hooked me in. Hannah was relatable and I liked how out there she was – certainly not a shrinking violet. They meet for the first time getting ready for a wedding, although they both knew of each other. The Chemistry is instant but they both find themselves putting up barriers. The biggest is Howard’s past, and I liked how Hannah was honest but also open minded. They also fell in love with all her friends watching closely, which upped the stakes. The ending gave me all the feels because it was romantic, and righteous. Definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in Australia on 28 December 2017I must confess I am NOT a romance novelist reader. It is not my preferred genre. However I found myself not being able to put this book down. I was engrossed by Hannah, an easily relatable country girl who like many of us have had our hearts crushed at one time or another. I admired the independence of her character and found myself giggling at her cheekiness. This novel moved at a fast pace but I found myself wanting more. Howard, the traumatised construction magnate, fiflthy rich but had me thinking I wish my husband was more like Howard. Minus his flaws of course. A truely brilliant piece of writing by author Laura Simpson. I hope there is more to come as I can’t wait to picture myself in the idyllic life of Hannah and Howard. And I loved the Australian humour that glistened on this novel... even the crass language just gave it that extra punch. It is a must read for anyone! Congratulations Laura Simpson, hurry up and write what happens next. It won’t be an easy road for Hannah and Howard but you will
Sure leave us entertained and gasping for more.
- Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2019don’t normally read a lot of romance, but I really got into this one. Hannah, the main character is easy to relate to, and she is hilarious. She has a lot of passion for life, speaks her mind and doesn’t hold back. It’s a good contrast when she meets Howard, who is quiet, reserved but passionate in his own way. The relationship between them is a fun journey as they both put up their own barriers to finding happiness with each other. I liked how Hannah welcomes Howard into the small country town of Bright, and how he embraces her as she is. In the end Howard’s family almost break them apart but the end, Hannah learns to forgive. This is a fun, sexy read. I recommend it.
- Reviewed in Australia on 26 August 2019This book was equal parts funny and heart breaking! We have two characters with instant attraction, but come up with instant reasons why they can’t be together. The issues Hannah faces are relatable for a modern woman who wants to control her own destiny. Howard’s issues stem from a traumatic past that unravelled as the book went on.I liked the side characters. Hannah’s friends are realistic and fun, I wanted to have a drink with them. Howard’s family are terrible, and his ability to thrive despite them made me love him more. I like that this book is set in a small town too. I felt like I got a sense of the place and the people in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Highly Recommended Read
Verified PurchaseThis is the first Aussi book I’ve read. I know, what rock have I been living under, but true! I found it very interesting to read some expressions that were just slightly different than here in the states and some that took me a moment to decipher which added to the enjoyment of this read! The setting is of places and cities that I’ve only heard, read or dreamed about as part of that fabled land down under – Australia!
I liked the fact that Beyond Today is written in the first person. Novels in first person always make me feel more connected to the characters and the struggles they ‘re experiencing. I enjoyed the growth of Hannah and Howard as they dealt with an unusual problem that threatens to lead them to their destruction. It was also a pleasure getting to know a man who wasn’t entirely a tough and stoic alpha male. Oh yes, he is rough and tumble alright, but there’s more to him than that. Yes, guys have feelings too!! Hannah’s ability to laugh, love and stand up in the face of adversity makes her a heroine to admire. All in all, Beyond Today was a great read and I’m looking forward to more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked the story of Hannah and Howard
Verified PurchaseI liked the story of Hannah and Howard. Howard’s childhood issues have been haunting him his whole life and meeting Hannah is like a breath of fresh air for him. She is a strong independent woman that surprised me through her acceptance and feisty attitude. He is rich and magazine cover handsome. They fall for each other hard. She is exactly what he needs in dealing with his family and through all that they rise up stronger in love. A great start for the author. Looking forward to more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put down!
Verified PurchaseBeyond Today is a fabulous read and was difficult to put down. Hannah is so relatable in her quirks and worries and Howard just draws you in. The setting of this story is beautiful, Laura Simpson brings her readers to the stunning Victorian Alpine region with her vivid descriptions. As someone who reads a lot, I loved that the issues with these characters were unique, not your typical romance. The twists and turns with these characters are engaging and I recommend the read. Looking forward to more from this author!

Verified PurchaseBeyond Today was hard to put down. Not your typical contemporary romance story, with some added spice and quirky humour. Hannah and Howard are characters that are easily relatable, and you feel so connected to the two and their love story. I appreciate that the book was set in country Victoria, and Laura Simpson creates a very real description of the setting. Looking forward to the next novel written by Laura.
