The Maniac Things I should have watched out for: The redhead with her face buried in her phone. The pixie who made me feel more alive than the speeding blue Shelby underneath me. The girl more intense than the music and crowds I surround myself with. The cure to all the demons from my past. The one with the boyfriend who loves her. But I didn’t, and now she has to watch me one more time. In a race for my life, and hers.
The Cure Things I should have seen coming: The stupid red balloon. The road all my wishes led me down. The 6ft hulk with the easy smile. The maniac who rages both on the track and off it. The one who doesn’t care that I have a boyfriend who loves me. But I didn’t, and now I have to watch him one more time. In a race for his life, and mine.
They bonded over their love for ‘maybe’ bad boys, offbeat and colorful females, and a desperate need to stand out from a crowd.Having spent so much time with each other, they finally decided to collaborate and create something amazing.
Alex was exactly the right proportion of sexy badass man who truly is a sweetheart under all that layer. He really does not deserve his heroine, Quinn. I found her to bit stubborn and irrational in her way of thinking. My poor broken Alex does everything deserve his party crush, especially when he finds out she is not single. Quinn really makes him jump through the hoops and going to extremes to show that all that bad boy exterior is just that... exterior.
There is a bit more drama and danger in this book, which I didn't expect but wholly welcome.
4.5 Manic Stars! I loved this book, but it was a one sided love. I loved Alex the male lead, but didn’t love Quinn so much. But that’s okay! I enjoy stories where we get glimpses at past couples, in this one we get to see Brant and Abby from Muse. The new characters we meet are also incredibly developed to the point that I will beg the author for their stories!
Heroine actively cheats and intimate with both guys within hours, so no.
I read the last book and it was amazing. I couldn’t wait to read Alex’s story, so even though I knew there might be a little bit of an issue for me I went for it. I will be honest I do not like cheaters, but depending on how it’s written I have been able to understand the why and not hate the book. I just knew the way she wrote the last book, that she would make this character understandable. That being said, I just can’t! This was a DNF for me. The heroine is the female version of my least favorite type of “hero”. The type that does douchebag things constantly, but everyone seems to think is still a great person. This heroine is not a god person. There is no logic for why she should be with the other guy if she cares about Alex. “Having a history” is just her way of wanting to have her cake and eat it too. How is she any different from any guy who has every started to screw around on his girlfriend to try what’s out there before he officially cuts her lose. That exactly what she does, and it’s not even creative. This is the biggest cliche out there. You either care or you don’t; cheating and wrecking Alex are symptoms of her narcissism, not of being in some kind of impossible situation. He had been through hell, and just deserved so much better. What drives me nuts is that this books wasn’t rated lower so that you know exactly what you are getting into. I have read enough reviews to know that if the hero had done what she did, this would definitely be in the 3 star range. She didn’t cheat on someone she was separated from by distance or, from during a break etc. He wasn’t abusive, she wasn’t scared to leave. She was just plain selfish. She didn’t show one sign of being a decent person. She was intimate with Alex (doing EVERYTHING but his penis officially entering her vagina) and a few hours later sought out the boyfriend and screwed him. Sorry hero or heroine, trash is trash. She just wasn’t written well enough to make her misdoings ok.
This story was sooooooo everything that I love. The beginning is so sweet when Alex tries to woo Balloon girl and his charms fail him. This story has angst, chemistry, tension. Quinn should be off limits as she is already dating a fraternity brother but Alex has other ideas. He seems like a cocky jock in the beginning but as the story goes along you get to see some depth in him. The push and pull in this romance fueled my veins and I couldn't put the book down. For me, college stories that dance just over the line of crossing boundaries are some of my very favorites.
The story of Quinn - Alex and Erik. The is my first read by this author and i did enjoy it. The characters are well written and the depth of real life experiences adds to the ability to be able to connect with the characters. Quinn has had to delay school due to her mother’s health issues. Alex has had not the best life but ours on a party attitude. Erik isnt all he seems to be. Sounds all too true.
This is the love story of a man determined to get what he wants from a woman who deserves more. I didn’t read the previous release but i did enjoy meeting the characters from the first release. These stories are stand alone so no harm there but i also am a stickler for knowing all characters and how they got to where they are now.
This is a good easy read. Enjoyed seeing the characters evolve and a love story develop. Thank you for the ARC. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets. Click this one up on a snow day!
4.25Stars I wanted to love everything about this story but sadly I just didn’t seem to be able to gel with Quinn, not that it was a deal breaker after, I’m not daft enough to think that I am going to like every single character that I happen upon on in a story, but I wanted so much to like her, I think I just felt slightly miffed that I couldn’t feel as enthusiastic about her as Alex did. I thought the way the author portrayed Alex was touching and sensitive, a young man that on first appearances seemed to be ok but appearances can be deceptive because beneath the bravado he was anything but…I would go as far as to say that he was a shell of a man, a broken soul that lived his life pretending to be something he most certainly is not…Ok! I loved the illusion he presented, the happy go, lucky guy, quick-witted and friendly but that wasn’t him at all and as the book unfurled, the real man appeared and as each page disappeared, I felt a need to keep him safe. I wanted his happiness, I just wasn’t sure that he could and would get it Of course, the book isn’t all about Alex, it has Quinn in it too and her boyfriend Erik. Quinn was a beautiful woman, and I understood where Alex was coming from when he became besotted by her after he saw her at a frat party. But I found her naivety or willingness initially to gloss over what should have been warning signs really rubbed me up the wrong way. Darn it woman, you haven’t seen your man for an absolute age and he is less than attentive and you practically give him a free pass to treat you that way…I was totally hurling abuse at the situation, I didn’t want her to be a walkover but although she starts to cotton on to what is happening with Erik and she feels things towards Quinn that she knows are right, she still stays with Erik the a** …I was honestly spitting chips at this point... her misguided loyalty was going to cost her a man that could truly make her happy and when she kept on going back for more of Erik’s bull, I totally lost the plot…she was breaking Alex’s heart and I was losing respect for her! Now despite my moaning, I would say that this is a must read, it is not only beautifully written, but the author tackled some sensitive subject matters with the deftest of touches and that earns the utmost of respect. Kudos to you Ms Auril for a captivatingly, individual story that not only gave me a reason to stop and think but also brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face.
What a book! Maniac is a beautifully written story between Alex, a beast of a guy who is so terribly broken on the inside, and Quinn, a feisty redhead who helps heal him. But since Quinn already has a boyfriend -- Alex's fraternity brother, Erik -- there's a lot of angst between these two before they get to their HEA.
With his cocky, confident facade, Alex does a great job at covering up just how damaged he really is. But this story is so well-written that the reader can see over and over again just how affected he is by the demons of his past. One of my biggest pet peeves is being told, not shown, something is true, and I felt every bit of Alex's pain, not only when it came to his childhood, but the unrequited love he has for Quinn. And while there were some moments where I wanted to slap Quinn for being so wishy-washy and jerking Alex around, I really did get a sense for just how torn she is over her growing feelings for this guy, who came out of nowhere and completely turned her world upside down.
I give the authors (Nina Auril is a secret co-writing pair) major points for this book being connected to Muse and not making the reader feel as if they were missing parts of the backstory. That book's couple, Brant and Abby, are friends of Alex's, and play a big part in his support system. Noah and Harlow round out the supporting characters in this story, and they are both characters that I would have liked to have befriended myself back in college!
My only complaint is that I didn't love that Quinn was cheating on Erik, however. He's cheating on her as well, which made it somewhat easier to stomach -- especially since he turns out to be such a jerk.
Overall, Maniac was an impressive read and I can't wait to see what these authors put forth next! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Alex comes across as a confident, cocky guy who can get any girl he wants when he wants but underneath all that bravado is a soft , kind and broken man. The party animal front is how most people see him and he wants to keep it that way. His past is not something he discusses with anyone apart from his best friend Brant, he cant show weakness.
Quinn is a sweet natured girl who has moved away from her mum to be with her childhood sweetheart, Erik has been there for her when she needed him the most and will do anything for him...even staying with him when she starts to see his true colours.
Alex wants Quinn and will not give up on her... he doesn't care she has a loser for a boyfriend, he can compete with Erik and win his girl.
Alex is everything Quinn wants Erik to be, attentive to her every need , and the way he makes her feel if nothing she has ever had with Erik. she cant be swayed by that though, her morals tell her she cant hurt Erik by leaving him, although at the time same she is killing not only Alex but herself.
The chemistry between Alex and Quinn is electric, they cant deny it and at times gets the better of them ,its HOT !! For Quinn though this brings guilt at what they have done, for Alex it just makes him want her more and is struggling with the pull of her and breaks him every time she goes back to Erik.
This is an emotional journey for them both , the story touches on sensitive subjects but has been written in the perfect way . I really loved the way the author has managed to put humour through out the book too ! There were many times I laughed out loud at Alex's humour and antics !
4.5 racing stars Maniac by Nina Auril was my second book by this duo of authors, and the second in the series of connected standalones. It’s about Brant’s (from Muse) friend Alex, who is a football player and likes to live life to the fullest. He comes off as light-hearted and carefree, but he’s really hiding from his past, a past that holds a deep, haunting darkness. He has plenty of girls, but no girlfriend. He’s never wanted one until he meets Quinn at a frat party, and even when she tells his she has a boyfriend, it doesn’t put him off. He thinks she was just pretending anyway. Quinn has just moved to the same college her boyfriend has been attending for the last two years, she’s had a lot to deal with as well as their long-distance relationship. She’s out of sorts when she meets Alex and doesn’t know quite how to deal with him. They keep meeting though and each time, they get to know one another just a little bit better, and even when Alex discovers that Quinn was telling the truth and she really does have a boyfriend, it doesn’t stop him from wanting her to be his, especially when he finds out just who the lucky guy is. There is a slight element of a love triangle, and a tiny bit of cheating too. But thankfully, it was well written and easy to gloss over as Erik, ‘the boyfriend’ was such a douchebag. I loved seeing Brant and Abbi, from Muse again too. Loved this story and couldn’t put it down. Grab your copy today and enjoy the life of a Maniac.
Dang! What a great book! I lived Quinn and Alex. So much intense chemistry from the very first meeting. That kept me going non stop until I finished the book. The pages flowed easily for me.
Quinn is all fine and good until an outspoken Alex comes into her life. Boy when he does..... He rocks her world to its core. She is taken though. This is where I had an issue with the story. I just wanted to shake her and be like wake up woman! But..... all worked out how it was meant to.
Alex is a damaged soul. He's been through hell and back but he's the type to make the best out of everything. He is easy going and light. I loved his humor and banter with those he considers friends. He's super thoughtful and caring. And alpha as hell.
This was a great read. I wanted more! Nina Auril has quickly became one of my must read authors. Can't wait to see what they come up with next!

I love Nina Auril she has quickly become one of my new favortie authors her storys always seem to get better and better. Maniac is an emotional Rollercoster. Alex "Brants best friend from Muse" is always the happy go lucky kinda guy he never takes anything to serious and is always joking around. Little did when know that Alex has a horrible past and he hides his pain behind laughter I found myself wanting to know more and more about Alex's past. Quinn has put her life on hold while carrying for her sick mother but once her mother is better she decides its time to start living her own life and have some fun, and boy does she find in Alex. The chemistry between these too is off the chart. I was another great read and I personally cant wait for more.
Wow, where to even start with this review. Nina Auril has left me kind of speechless after reading Maniac, it was vivid, intense and extremely well written. The way that she has written it has created so much emotion within both the characters and the plot. I loved both the main characters but I wanted to hug Alex, for all of his cockiness was deeply broken. He needed Quinn, he will not give her up and that is why he will fight to show that he is better than Eric. The chemistry between Alex and Quinn shows they belong together. This book has angst, it has emotions and sensitive topics but the way that Nina has drawn humour into the book has created a good balance of light to the dark.
This book was nonstop intense. The attraction, the emotions, the sexual tension, the music. It was an amazing read! What do you do when you think your on the right path, and someone else puts himself in your way, and refuses to move. Quinn and Erik have been together since high school, are are reunited after a long separation. Things are different, but he’s still the one, isn’t he? Along comes Alex, funny, intense, passionate, the complete opposite of Erik. He is determined to have Quinn, and won’t take, “No,” for an answer. Will she decide loyalty is more important, or follow her heart? This is the first book I have read by this author, and can’t wait to read more!
So, So, So Amazing!! I fell in love with Alex the moment he started speaking, he is so goofy, sweet and irresistible. His resilience and strength to fight for what he wants and to have pushed himself into the place he is after everything he went through just makes you love him even more. Quinn is such an amazing person too, she's sweet and caring, and what she goes through is understandable but it just takes her time to see the obvious in front of her. Together Alex, Quinn, Noah, Harlow and Shelby (x2), makes this whole story fun, humours and lovable from the first to last words. I can't wait to get more stories like this and Muse from Nina Auril. ❤️
First time in going into any of this author's books but she caught my attention with the blurb. She uses the characters Alex, Quinn and Erik to tell a tale that captures you into their lives. You get their foundation that forms them. Alex and Quinn are intense and burn. There are alot of ups and downs with you following every bit. Actually you kinda turn into a maniac too lol. It seems though that I missed out on the first one.
DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC OF THIS BOOK FOR HONEST REVIEW.
MANIAC is absolutely heart-wrenchingly amazing. I have not used that to describe a book in a long time. I simply could not get enough. it was so well written. The character perspective drew me in. Alex and Quinn, Erik . . . meh. I feel a bit dumb. I cannot put my thoughts into words! It was that good!
I'm kind of in love with Alex. I was in Muse also, don't know what it is about him but I love him, and I love him and Quinn. Their story was amazing and I hope Harlow is getting her HEA! Noah too, they both deserve it but Harlow cracks me up so I hope we see more of her. Another amazing book by this great duo!
I both loved and hated this book. It was angsty and heartbreaking but still had some swoonworthy and laughable moments! I LOVED Alex, he was wonderful and had me swooning most of the book! Quinn drove me CRAZY I had a love/hate relationship with her!! Together they were amazing and smoking hot!!! The story was original and I really enjoyed reading it!!
Wonderful, magical, spellbinding and beautiful love story. I absolutely adored this book and can't wait for more. This writing duo is fast becoming a favorite for me. I cannot wait for more. This book had it all.
I really liked this book. To be honest wasn't sure about the title, but the whole car racing thing drew me in. Ok that and Alex. Geez that boy is something. And Quinn and her friends, gotta head back to Amazon and see if there's more.
Quinn is a girl that has been caring for her mother. Now that her mother is better she goes a little farther to go to college. She picked the one she did as her boyfriend Erik goes there.
Alex is VP of his frat. He’s a one and done guy. He races in illegal street racing for extra cash and the thrill.
After a chance meeting at a frat party Alex is entranced by Quinn. He’s having a difficult time keeping up with her, so he ties a red balloon to her bag. She blows him off as she has a boyfriend. Can he convince her he’s the better choice?
This was a sweet read, about a boy who discovers what really matters in life.
WOW!!! This is one great read. I loved the story line and the characters. A well written story that has a broken young man, a sweet and beautiful young woman and her boyfriend who is not quite the boyfriend material she once had.
Alex is broken but hides it well with his joyful and funny personality. He is always the life of the party, and partying he likes, but it's racing that he loves. Alex can have any girl he wants, but the one he really wants is the aurborned hair beauty that walks into the frat house. Only problem is, she has a boyfriend. Quinn is a psychology major and a mother who has fought breast cancer, which delayed Quinn's entry to school with her boyfriend Erik. When she finally is able to go, she finds that Erik isn't as attentative as he has been, but figures it's just because they have been apart for so long. There is a triangle here with Quinn being the pivot point. Things are not at all as they appear in regards to Quinn's life with these two men. First, there's the racing that she had no idea that Erik was involved in, although she saw Alex race. Then there is the issue with Alex and his determination to have her for his own, his being part of her project to receive her internship and the past that he shares with her. He is so very broken, but he is also getting under her skin and into her heart. But there's Erik, the huge monkey-wrench in Alex's plans.
A beautifully written story that will have you captivated and enthralled from the beginning to the end. I highly recommend this book!
