Too Good at Goodbyes

Rate this book
USA Today bestselling author RC Boldt takes us inside the life of Simone King, the "Ice Princess of Pop" and her new bodyguard, Kane Windham, who may be the only person to have the power to melt the ice around her heart.

First Top 40 hit at age seventeen? My first tabloid breakup scandal quickly followed.
Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Landed a leading role in a movie? My fiancé called off our engagement the next day.

I might have a multi-million-dollar recording contract, a sold-out world tour, and more money in the bank than I ever imagined, but every time I hit a milestone in my career, my personal life suffers.

Then in steps my new bodyguard, rugged and with a past I connect with. The closer we get, the more powerful my feelings grow, complicating our professional relationship.

I thought Kane would be different. I hoped he’d be the one man to stand by my side, undaunted by the fame and attention that trails me.

The press calls me the “Ice Princess of Pop” because of my unyielding façade throughout heartbreak and betrayal. Perhaps it’s time to show them the real me.

With every syllable, I pour out my emotions and allow them to puddle, forming lyrics from my soul’s breath. And with each word, my broken heart cries out for Kane, begging him to help me break this pattern.

To help me stop being so damn good at goodbyes.

Ooohhhh!! So mixed feelings for this story! 🤕
Well, the beginning was dragging and I was afraid I was going to dnf it. But I kept reading and later the plot started to become engaging.
I was not able to feel Kane and Simone’s connection, although their chemistry was amazing.
There were many ups and downs, drama and slow burn. And I was tired of reading all these messages they were sending to each other as to reconnect.
However, the ending chapters were wonderful.
I know most of the readers will love this romance read, unfortunately it didn’t work that great for me.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is the first book that I've read by R.C. Boldt and I loved it!

"Too Good at Goodbyes" is a contemporary romance book about a pop star Simone and her bodyguard Kane.

Simone and Kane's relationship is a slow burn with a lot of obstacles on the way to their happily ever after.

I have been hungry for Kane Windham’s story for what seems like forever. This devastatingly charming hero with that laid back southern swagger was an immediate scene stealer in previous books and super alpha heartthrob status was achieved in Too Good at Goodbyes.

Although, honestly, I felt like I got a little bit of a different Kane here. In place of the devastating charm, there was more angsty alpha. Part of that has to do with the nature of the storyline here and what it lacked in the sort of devilish humor, it made up for in heat. The sizzling chemistry that sparked between Kane and Simone was apparent immediately and it only burned hotter from there. It was dang sexy. But, I did sort of miss that devilish humor that I’d associated with Kane - which didn’t resurface until the last quarter of the book. And man, I wish I’d had more of that. The playful side of Kane and Simone was absolutely to-die-for. It took a bit for me to really warm up to them, but by the time I turned the last page, I was utterly smitten.

Also, Simone? Is my favorite kind of heroine. Her heart of gold was on display from the get-go, and I was blown away by her strength and courageousness over the course of the book. She’s the true star here, the perfect balance of female warrior and loving caretaker. Her friendship with Matty was also incredibly satisfying. I loved the dynamic between the two and how genuine their friendship was written. Talk about a scene-stealer – Matty’s over-the-top personality seemed to fill in for the playfulness that was missing from Kane and it was absolutely impossible not to love him.

In all, this really was a super satisfying love story. These two are perfect for each other, Kane gives good groveling, and I smiled so hard at the way their happily-ever-after played out. It was exactly what I was expecting, but I loved it all the same. Definitely worth the read! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

A while ago I read “The Good Samaritan” by R.C. Boldt and I loved the story and the writing style so when I came across the Plot of “Too Good at Goodbyes” I knew I had to read the book.

For me the plot style was a little unusual because when it comes to “star” novels I usually prefer the male lead to be the famous one. So this was the only thing I was uncertain of when I went into the book. But to my amazement I loved it. Probably because the author did such a fine job to make the female lead such a strong and clear-headed person. She had no illusions and I loved the banter between the characters. The whole setting of the book made it feel real and I as a reader felt involved.

Simone and Kane where amazing characters and if you love star/bodyguard romances you will adore this one.
Actually, I am not sure what I could add in my comment here as the blurb already gives a perfect impression of the plot and anything I might write here additionally would end up being a spoiler. So if you love this author and/or love Rock Star novels you should add this one to your TBR pile and enjoy it

What a refreshing take on a rock star romance!

Too Good at Goodbyes was a heartachingly beautiful book! The story showcases the classic “Hollywood star/bodyguard romance” and gives it an incredibly unique overlay of emotionally damaged characters and heartbreaking plot twists. The story dives deep into the heart of what it truly means to KNOW someone, to break through the walls someone has built around them and discover who they really are deep inside.

Simone and Kane are quite similar characters. Both have been hurt by the people they loved, causing them to shield themselves as well as their hearts from enduring love’s painful sting again. But in doing so, they’ve each adopted iced facades, changing their outlook on life and connection to true happiness. I feel that’s why they have such a strong pull towards one another. Yes, there’s that immediate attraction and chemistry between them, along with their undeniably intense passion. But it’s the emotional pain and insecurities they feel and share with each other that really binds them together.

Too Good at Goodbyes delivers on so many levels. Heartache, drama, humor, and desire blend together to make this slow burn romance an instant must-read. I love stories with emotionally scarred characters. The Good Samaritan is one of my absolute favorites books, so to read another fantastically penned story by the author with perfectly flawed characters was an absolute treat! I truly loved it!

Fact or fiction: You won’t be able to put down this down.

Fact.

I’m a big R.C. Boldt fan, I’m also a big fan of rock star romances, meaning Too Good at Goodbyes was a book I was more than happy to devour. It appealed to me on multiple levels, meaning I had high hopes for a fabulous read.

Fortunately, R.C. Boldt did not disappoint. Too Good at Goodbyes was a beautiful read, one filled with emotion that I could not put down. From the start, I was sucked into this one. I feel for the characters instantly and adored their interactions. There was so much more to them that you first expect, and it had me desperately powering through the story to get all the details the story offered.

The only thing that stopped this from being my favourite R.C. Boldt read was the other woman drama. It’s something I’m not crazy about, but that’s just a personal preference. I did not hate it in this one as I have in other books – in fact, it worked for this story – but I saw it come from a long way off and it was something I prefer to go without. Nevertheless, despite this, there was so much to love with this time one – my heart broke when reading – that I did not mind this one element.

All in all, Too Good at Goodbyes was another fabulous read from R.C. Boldt. It’s once again highlighted how I need to go and read all the authors books, and the side characters in this one decided what I’ll be reading next.

Fact or fiction?
I loved this book SO. EFFING. MUCH.

That is FACT.

This pop star/bodyguard romance was emotional, full of heart, and made me feel everything. It gave me so many smiles, plenty of tingles, and also a few tears.

I fell for the Simone & Kane immediately. It wasn’t hard to do. These well-developed characters are so lovable and broken and strong, yet vulnerable, and they ended up finding a place in my heart.

Kane is Simone’s bodyguard, filling in for her usual guy for three months. He was expecting the beautiful singer/actress to be what the tabloids made her out to be...a cold-hearted, spoiled little brat, used to getting everything she wants. But what he witnessed was something entirely different. The media is way off.

The so called Ice Princess has a huge heart of gold. She has a lot more depth than what people think. She’s generous and kind and super talented and humble... how could he not be attracted to all of that.

The chemistry between them was sizzling and their passion was intoxicating. With the turn of every page, I looked forward to watching them try to stay away from each other. Loved seeing their relationship grow.

This well-written story captured my heart, I loved every second of it.

Sometimes a broken heart can completely change you, make you someone different. It pulls the color from your world. Takes the light from your eyes. Nobody knows this better than Simone and Kane. Two broken people, closed off and going through the motions, not fully living. When these two are thrust together, they both come to realize that maybe they aren’t the only one hiding their true self. Will they be able to open up and let someone else in or will their walls be impossible to penetrate?

One of my favorite aspects of Boldt’s writing are her characters. She creates bold and complex characters who grow and evolve throughout the story. I can’t help but fall in love with each and every one of them. Simone and Kane were no exception. I couldn’t get enough of them.
Boldt delivers a delicious slow burn. The chemistry between Simone and Kane was palpable. I could feel their connection and the anticipation of a relationship had me on the edge of my seat. As things started to heat up, I was tearing through the pages. Not only does she give us romance and passion, but also a deep connection between two people and how respect and friendship can bring back color and light and love.

I absolutely loved this story and I never wanted it to end. The humor, the heartache, the excitement, the frustration, the passion, I loved all of it!

This is not your typical rock star romance and I’ve got to say, it’s about time!! RC Boldt destroyed me in the best way possible!! Too Good at Goodbyes had me weak in the knees and flipping the pages at the end for more! Simone and Kane’s story...GAH!! The friendship they built, the slow burn romance, I couldn’t get enough. I laughed, I cried and I cheered for Simone. I will say this...these two as a couple? Hands down, the BEST I’ve ever read. Congrats RC Boldt, this couple has stolen my heart!

Holy Heartbreak!
I don't think my heart could withstand much more.
So many emotions!
ALL THE FEELS!!!!
R.C. Boldt has outdone herself with Too Good At Goodbyes!

About Too Good At Goodbyes:

Too Good At Goodbyes is a complete standalone told from both Simone King and Kane Windham's point of view.

Simone Kane has been deemed as the 'Ice Princess of Pop' thanks to a few scummy ex boyfriends and one ex fiance. Living life in the spotlight isn't all it's cracked up to be, but Simone does it so she can have the ability to help people expanse ability to help people. This woman may have a bad reputation to the media and public eye, but beneath the surface and only around those she loves and trusts she's a sweetheart.

Kane Windham is in the process of trying to rearrange his life after the love of his life decided to up and leave but not before revealing all her secrets and shattering his heart. Now Kane is trying his best to live his life day to day.

When Kane's friends worry becomes too much he decides to accept the security job his buddy needs a hand with. Protecting the Ice Princess of Pop isn't going to be too much work...Right?

My Thoughts:

R.C. Boldt is a fairly new to me author. This is my third book I've picked up and read by her and I have to say, I'm blown the freak awak! She's quickly climbing my auto buy author list!!!

AH! I love when authors take a popular trope and flip it up! The design of what a trope is supposed to be gets put on the back burner and I'm hurled into a world that is so unlike anything I've ever read before! R.C. Boldt took the rock star romance trope made the lead character a female pop singer with a heart of gold but a bad reputation thanks to a few douche canoes that pop up every now and again. GENIUS. BOLDT is PURE GENIUS. Also, is it just me or did you all feel some serious swifty vibes...... Hmmmm.... Just some food for thought!

I loved every step this journey of a novel took me one. I loved the highs and the lows. I loved the drama and the impending sense of self doubt every time I was wrong about a prediction I had made mere minutes ago. Never a dull moment!

Simone King was someone the world can learn to appreciate. This woman shows true strength with her ability to put up a shield blocking the whole world's hate. She knows what matters and it's the people she keeps closest to her heart that have the ability to fly through that shield. It's their opinions that truly matter. I can't even begin to explain how much of an impact this character had on my heart. There were times I wanted to stand up and go to battle for her.

Now Kane... this man is a diamond in the rough. I loved every facet of him, from the protective nature to the man whose living with a broken heart. His character fit perfectly with Simone's. If ever there was a match made in romance book heaven, it would be this match.

Overall, Too Good At Goodbyes was am overwhelmingly raw tale about two broken hearts coming together and healing each others souls. It was an epic tale of true love at it's finest. It pulled every emotion ever written in any book out of me. There were moments that made me cry and moments that made me giggle. Hands down I couldn't get enough of Simone and Kane's story. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these two!

When Simone's new replacement bodyguard steps into the room, she's riveted. By his eyes. By his ripped body. By him. But though he may be a sweet, charming Southern gentleman, she knows better than to get involved with a man who's carrying around the same kind of pain she is. The heart (and the body) want what they want, though, and after awhile they can't help themselves. Will Kane be the one who sticks? The one who actually stands by Simone?

Oh boy but I was not expecting this one! It's heartbreaking in parts, but thoroughly entertaining, and Kane and Simone are absolute fire together. I love their witty snark, their explosive chemistry, and I definitely love that epilogue. Oh, and the way Kane convinced her to give him a second chance? That's swoony af right there. I LOVE Too Good at Goodbyes and can only hope RC plans on writing more about the world she created in it.

GAHHHH This book is MAGIC!! RC Boldt keeps getting better and better, her writing, her storytelling, her characters...all of it is taken up a level with Too Good at Goodbyes!!! A rockstar romance from the female pop star perspective is a breathe of fresh air. The complications, the loneliness, the facade of perfection, it's all here in it's glory; Simone King is the pop princess everyone loves to tear down and tear apart. Simone and Kane explore a sweet tenderness that bubbles over into a hurricane of passion! Nothing prepared two damaged hearts to find their North Star. These two are #CouplesGoals personified. I loved everything about them, they are going down as one of my favorite all-time couples!! Their journey is magic, really exploring and uncovering their layers until it's just them, raw and unfiltered. Their story broke my heart, then slowly pieced it back together to be stronger...those last few chapters had me cheering ten-fold for them!

I honestly couldn't put down this book down, the pages were flipping fast as I devoured Simone and Kane's story. The ebb and flow is incredibly addicting. Separately, these are amazing characters, together they are OFF THE CHARTS HAWTTTT!! Too Good at Goodbyes is one of my favorites by RC Boldt! She's quickly topping my charts of favorite reads of 2019. You gotta read this book!!!

I have been reading Boldt's books for a few years now. Not to toot my own horn, but I like to think that I have become an expert on her books. I peddle them out like candy on Halloween. With that being said, I went into this one with trepidation. I am not usually a fan of "rock star" books. They're just not my thing. I thought this might be the book of hers that didn't grab me...

Boy was I WRONG! I swear I am not being biased. I really wasn't sure if I should read this. However, I wouldn't be an honest reviewer if I didn't, would I? I can, without a doubt, say that Boldt DID IT AGAIN! She wrote away from her "norm" and hit it out of the park!

I enjoyed the push and pull full of angst this book delivered. Boldt is really good with giving you all of the angst when she wants to. The angst in this one is the best part of the book. You want things to happen, but at the same time you want it to go slow so you can savor it.

This book is the perfect combination of angst, drama, friends to lovers, boss to lovers romance. You don't want to pass this one up!

I’ll be honest, because that’s what I like to do with reviews.... I’m not a fan of rockstar romances. I don’t know why, but I don’t go out of my way to read them. That being said, I’m going to have to start taking that chance more often. That or Ms. Boldt is that dang good!! Because once I started, I couldn’t stop. My heart was one hundred percent invested in Kane and Simone’s story. And it was a journey for sure! But I loved it with my whole heart. I have to tell you, my love for Simone man. She has it hard, you’ll know what I mean. But deep down that woman has a heart of gold. And Kane could see past the BS that the rest of the world said about Simone. I’m in absolute love with this book. And with Ms. Boldt’s writing. She knocked this book out of the park. Add in the little parts where Simone does things out of the goodness of her heart and you’ll be smiling and crying in the best ways ever. Please please read this book, because it’s definitely one of my favorites this year!

Wow, RC Boldt, you outdid yourself with Too Good at Goodbyes. In this day and age you typically see the famous pop/rock star is a male and that is completely flipped in this book. It is also not a 'oh poor poor pitiful me' type of book. The reader, or at least I, was able to connect instantly to Simone, the 'Ice Princess of Pop' that gets a bad rap, but not everything is what it seems, right? Especially when Kane, a stand in for her personal bodyguard shows up and sets her body on fire. But Simone has bad luck with men and people in general, this can't actually end up well for her right?

All in all if you like it when authors flip things up a bit and you can truly connect with the story and the characters with a heartwarming plot, this is 100% the book for you. It was a great read and cannot wait to read more from this author!

PS: I received an ARC of this book in return for me voluntarily reviewing this book honestly!

It is official - I absolutely love R.C. Boldt. This book took my by surprise and I loved every single thing about it.

I loved that they didn't fall into each other's arms right away. I loved how their relationship progressed and I even loved the way things had fallen apart. But what stole my heart were the texts. They showed how much they were missing each other and aching to be together. I loved the side characters as they brought that something extra to the story.

Like said I absolutely loved it and can't wait to pick up my next book by this author.

3.5 STARS REVIEW

Adult, Contemporary Romance

First Person, dual-POV

This is a standalone book with HEA.

I'm reminded of something all too easily forgotten. That there are others who can relate to lyrics written from my soul's breath.

Because in heartache, we're never truly alone.

by Simone

Cover: art 4.5/5, title 5/5, color-font 5/5, buy 5/5  I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. This is a great cover and we can see it was made for this book. The couple looks a lot like how Simone and Kane are described on the book. I love the background of lights like of a stage and the little music notes as adding surrounding the title. The font and colors were also used well. I would buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!!!

Freshness: 4.5/5 The author was very smart here. She was able to write a contemporary romance of a singer and be different than all of the other books out there. The way Ms. Boldt wrote the book with text messages and magazines news in between chapters gave a unique feel to the story. As fresh as ice cream in a summer day!!!

Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 3.5/5, dialogue 4/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 3.5/5, opening 3/5, pace 3.5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 3/5, twists 3/5  Very slow opening for an amazing ending. Believable plot, with good dialogues and great setting . Slow paced with not many twists and subplots. The idea of the conflict was good, but I'm unsure about how it was explored. Ok level of enjoyment!

Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 4/5, steam 4/5  This is a good love story. The couple's chemistry was undeniable and the smut was really hot. I think their relationship grew accordingly from work related, to secret fling, to show their friends until it was open to the world.  Passionate love!!!

Writing Style: 3.5/5 I've read several books from Ms. Boldt and I've loved them all. This was my least favorite, and that is ok. The author wrote complex characters, a plot that felt fresh and a great romance with hot smut. Good writing!!!

Addictiveness: 3.5/5  This wasn't an easy read for me. I didn't like the pace. It took a while for me to get into the story. From 40% on it became much better and I've truly enjoyed the last 20% of the book. As addictive as grilled cheese!!!

Character: hero 3.5/5, heroine 3.5/5, secondary characters 4/5, growth 4/5, real 5/5 Complex characters that were a bit too convoluted and it was difficult to connect with.

Kane was an ok hero. I don't really know what made it so hard for me to connect with him. The reality was that he wasn't the most interesting male of the book, I can think of a few secondary characters that I liked better than him. Kane was brokenhearted from a relationship that was hard to understand. I never really understood his feelings toward both women. He seemed all in, but then he wasn't it.

Simone had everything to be a wonderful character. The author really was spot on the loneliness and difficulties that a huge star goes through with the press all over them. But the fact that her story was too similar to Taylor Swift gave me pause. Even a major fact of the book was almost exactly like a Taylor Swift's major press/career moment. I still don't know how I really feel about all the Taylor Swift similarities. I really respect Taylor and really liked Simone, I just don't know what to think of them being so alike.

You know, the secondary characters were my favorites. I've loved Kane's friends and I was completely in love with Matthias. I also liked Jed and David.

Villains.. antagonists… that is not real villain or antagonist in this story, I guess Simone's insecurities was the biggest antagonist and Kane's uncertainties the real villain of the book.

The characters were hard to love, connect and understand!!!

I have read several books from the author and I've loved them all. This was the first one that I have ended really uncertain about it.

I really enjoyed the last 30% of the story, but problem lies in the first 70%.

27/35 STARS –  3.5 STARS (between 24.5 stars and 27.5stars)

I also don't know what to think about who was suppose to be my favorite character, Simone, have a trajectory that felt too similar with Taylor Swift.

Addictiveness: 3.5 Character: 3 Cover: 4.5 Freshness: 4.5 Plot: 3.5 Romance: 4.5 Writing Style: 3.5

Action 1/5 Angst 3/5 Darkness 0/5 Humor 3/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 0/5

Would I recommend? I don't know, the fact that I don't like it doesn't mean that others won't like. I guess for those that enjoy pop singer contemporary romance.

Would I re-read this book/series? No.

Would I read more from the author? Yes, I really like the author and one book that I didn't enjoy that much doesn't mean anything.

You MAY read this because you follow the author; you SHOULD read this because you like singer's romance; you MUST read this because it has good smut!!!

Having now read two books by this author back to back, I think I can safely say this author is just not for me. Both books are extremely highly rated on GR, but I just didn’t care for either of them and couldn’t wait for the books to be over. For this book, the heroine is just so perfect - the perfectly misunderstood pop/movie star, with the perfect voice, almost no friends, but those around her are just super protective of her misunderstood self and sing her praises.

PS - her best friend Matty was not funny, he was just highly annoying, in literally every scene he was in.

The hero thinks Simone’s spoiled - oh but wait! She perfectly devotes her money to charity, her band member is grateful she didn’t fire him when his daughter got cancer, and she visits with children who are dying. And she also has the evil mother who never cared for her and stole her money that she has put aside to donate to sick children. Now, maybe this all makes me sound like a b****, but I just couldn’t relate to the heroine, as I felt like the author was just shoving in our face how perfect she is all the time, but still sad she has very few friends - so I guess we’re supposed to feel sorry for her too. No offense, but give me some characters with edges, some snark, some imperfections to make them interesting. Otherwise all I’m left with is a book with characters that are too perfect and I don’t at all like, and a book I’m bored by and just want to be done with.

Broken hearts and hurt feelings. You have to work through them, but what happens when you meet someone special while doing so? Too Good at Goodbyes tells the emotional tale of Simone and Kane, who both are not unfamiliar with heartbreak. I just adore their story.

Simone seems to be living the life; she’s a celebrated popstar with large numbers of fans and more than enough money to spend. But her fame and money aren’t always positive; it brings out the worst in people and the gossip magazines love to make up stories. Her love life is a disaster, and that hurts a lot. All Simone wants is a partner in life, for the good and the bad times. Kane – a former Green Beret / nowadays security guy – is also no stranger to heartbreak; it makes him question everything. Simone and Kane are both hurting, and both are hesitant to open up their heart again.

Poor, poor Simone. I feel so sorry for her. She might be rich and famous, but all she wants is somebody to love her. The real her, not the popstar. I think she’s a brave woman, to let Kane in her heart, even though she’s not sure about his feelings. Kane is still coming to terms with his breakup with his ex-girlfriend. He didn’t see it coming and falling for the gorgeous Simone is not part of the plan as well. Simone and Kane are an amazing couple, but the road to their Happily Ever After isn’t the easiest one.

Too Good at Goodbyes is yet another great story by RC Boldt. I love Simone and Kane; they are both good people who deserve all the best in life. Their story is sweet, sexy, angst-y and everything in between, I just love everything about it. Besides our lovely couple, there are a bunch of great side-characters (some you might know from other books by this author). And if you’re a fan of a great ‘epilogue’, Too Good at Goodbyes has the best; just one big swoon!

I love Kane and Simone; I give their beautiful story 5 stars.

To say I’m a massive fan of this author is a slight understatement. I’ve loved every single one of her characters but Kane has always been one of my favourites. The Kane I met in this book was not the Kane I’d come to love in other books (you don’t need to read any other books prior to this one. He only makes fleeting appearances). This new Kane is the opposite of what I was expecting. He’s hurting and that’s changed him as a person. At their wits ends his superiors (who happen to also be his friends) place him on work leave for a few months to get himself sorted. Which is how he ends up doing security for singing sensation and Ice Princess of Pop Sophie King. Kane isn’t the only person hurting though. Sophie has had her own share of heartache, she just doesn’t let anyone see the damage that has been done to her. They’re both broken in their own way but could they be what the other needs to move on?

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted two characters to get their hea more than I did these two. They won me over so quick and the more I got to know them the more I loved them. Kane is everything I didn’t know I wanted him to be. And Sophie was even better. This woman is so strong but still so good and kind, it’s hard not to love her. She’s awesome. Oh and Matthias deserves a mention. He is an absolutely brilliant character who I loved from the start.

I adore this authors books. The characters she creates somehow end up feeling like real friends. Reading a book by RC Boldt is like been hugged by your favourite people. There’s something about her words that draw me into this fictional world and make me not want to leave (helps that the men are all hot not gonna lie).

I have avoided rockstar romances for awhile as they started to get predictable and with that comes boredom so when the opportunity came up to read this one I did hesitate but only until I saw the author's name. I knew I would be in safe hands and that RC Boldt would deliver and deliver she did.

Simone is known as the Ice Princess by the press but this is the wall she has up around her after years of disappointment in her personal life. Every time she encounters success in her professional life, her personal life takes a nose dive. From unsupportive exes to a stealing mother and a cheating fiance, she has been through it all in a very public arena. But underneath this cool exterior is a heart of gold and a passion just waiting for the right man to let loose on. She genuinely cares for those around her and works on making a difference in people's lives. The press just like to pull her down.

When her head bodyguard finally goes on his honeymoon (he has a very patient new wife), Kane is hired to replace him. His impression of Simone to start with is that of the Ice Princess and a snob but the more time he spends with her, he sees the real Simone. Kane has had his own disappointments and heartbreak, including finding out that the woman he loved was just using him and was planning on marrying someone else.

I really loved these characters and their chemistry. Seeing Simone's world through Kane's eyes brought a refreshing angle to the story and I particularly liked it that we had a female mega star rather than the usual male. Everything about this story and their journey just clicked together.

This is my first book by RC Boldt and I was curious with the title since I saw her other books are more comedy feel. The cover wasn't how I imagined the lead bodyguard but he doesn't quite look mean or tough. The whole pop star celebrity trope can be tricky I feel. You can either like the character or just be very it's too much. In a way Simone felt a bit too perfect because while she had an Ice Princess reputation underneath had a heart of gold and is just plain nice. Yes I know she had a sucky love life and people take advantage of her fame or all the perils of celebrity. All that wasn't unusual since you see it happen. The realistic part was a nice touch though. I like that she owned her old life though and her hard work to get where is.

I started out liking this seeing the whole personality behind her. She seems normal enough but I don't somehow the believability of some stuff felt a bit too much. But it's probably to prove a point. The whole in love with the temporary bodyguard who was still hung over his ex was interesting till it moved on from that. Simone and Kane started getting closer and all the tension. Between them till they cross that line.

I had a feeling on what would happen next. I was pretty bored around halfway and stuggled a bit to finish. I just wanted to see how it ends. I didn't quite connect to either of the leads. I wasn't as invested in the story. The writing style is easy enough and enjoyable. I'm sure I'm in the minority for this but I'm sure others will like it. I'd still check out the author's other books in the future.

I’m a huge fan of RC Boldt’s writing and once again, she delivered another impressive and amazing book. Too Good At Goodbyes is a unique take on a celebrity and bodyguard romance. I loved everything about this book and truly adored Kane and Simone. They were engaging and genuine characters who wholeheartedly stole my heart. I could feel the undeniable chemistry between Kane and Simone and from the very beginning, I knew something life altering was on the horizon. Unfortunately, Simone has being taken advantage of, lied to and emotionally abused in past relationships which led to her close her heart and develop major trust issues. Kane also suffered a deep heartbreak and as a result, he guarded his heart as well.

I loved the friendship that Kane and Simone developed coupled with their hilarious banter which allowed their lighter sides to shine. The way they danced around each other was intriguing and once they got going, their hunger and passion for each other was oh so arousing and intoxicating. Too Good At Goodbyes is a swoon worthy, emotional romance (I cried a couple of times) with touching moments that you just can’t help but fall in love with. It’s beautifully written, the ending was perfection and I couldn’t have been more satisfied.

4.5-Stars ~ Reviewed by Emma-Louise on behalf of KindleFriendsForever

Once again this author manages to break my heart and feels into tiny splinters. As I’ve read several other books previously published I should by now be well acquainted with emotional earthquakes and heartbreaking tsunamis. Guess what? I wasn’t expecting to hurt as much as I did, not by a long shot.

Simone was a complex character, one who had risen to fame at a young age and had learnt to keep herself isolated. Safe, protected...until the chessboard alters and a new piece enters the game.

With any good book, emotions transfer from the characters to the reader. My breath was stolen over and over again. Raw, bloody, real. Too Good at Goodbyes had everything I have come to associate with this talented writer.

Realistic, life-like characters; thrown into the deep end of the pool and told to escape the man-eating sharks bearing down on their location. There is so much more I could say about Too Good at Goodbyes most of it would ruin this beautiful piece of work. I should really learn to not underestimate this author, congratulations and well done.
