The Kane Brothers are back with the fourth book in this series and y'all aren't ready for this one! Kelly Gendron pulled out all the stops with this book and kept me hooked for every single moment.
Packed with steam, heart, suspense, and twists... Nix and Payton took me on an unexpected, thrilling, unputdownable journey and promise to surprise you in soooo many moments, steal your heart in sooooo many others, keep you heated up in between all the questions, and just like the others, have you hanging on to the edge of the judge until the VERY last word.

Man that was a good one and I don't want to spoil this. Not what I was thinking and dang Kelly got me good. Unforgettable. Unstoppable. I simply couldn't get enough.

REVIEW: NIX is the fourth instalment in Kelly Gendron’s contemporary, adult DARING THE KANE BROTHERS erotic, romance series focusing on the Kane siblings. This is twenty-nine, year old computer programmer / single father Nickel ‘Nix’ Kane, and twenty-six year old, travel agent Payton Tucker’s story line. NIX can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. Daring the Kane Brothers is a spin-off from the author's Breaking the Declan Brothers series.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Nix and Payton) NIX follows the building relationship between computer programmer / single father Nickel ‘Nix’ Kane, and travel agent Payton Tucker. Nix Kane can’t keep his eyes off of his brother’s new client, and while her car is in the shop for repairs, Nix offers Payton Tucker a ride to work but not before they have to make a detour for his six year old daughter Becca. Refusing to get swayed by Nickel ‘Nix’ Kane’s charm, Payton Tucker all but disappears from our hero’s life only for Nix to discover Payton has been volunteering for Becca’s upcoming dance recital. The push and pull of attraction keeps Nix circling within Payton’s orbit but all is not well in Nix’s well ordered life. NIX is a story of family and friendship; secrets and lies; heart break and revelations; acceptance and love. The premise is intriguing and captivating but the guilty party was easily deduced; the characters are energetic and dynamic; the romance is passionate and seductive but I struggled with some issues of questionable consent, aggression and possible sexual assault, that in the age of #metoo, if the situation were reversed, some readers would be complaining about the actions of a particular story line character.

Nickel Kane or Nix by his own admission is a self professed player of epic proportions. He is also an unattached single father; motels are this devil’s playground...his home is off-limits.
According to him, he’s tried to scale back his intake of the opposite sex. One of his hookups after realising she wasn’t the only PTA Mum on his afternoon quickie roster became incensed that they weren’t exclusive. He makes it a point to mention somewhere between the first kiss and getting naked that there are no strings attached.
She was so upset when she found out she wasn’t his ‘one and only’, aggrieved, she took his clothes while in the shower and locked them and his keys in his car. A naked man in a motel room in the middle of the afternoon, novel concept. When check-out came, his brother Token never showed and he was stuck standing outside the motel room in nothing but the hundred-dollar sheet the motel charged him.
After exhausting all other avenues, as a last resort he rang his mother for a lift. Nothing could be worse than being collected by your Mum in a hundred-dollar toga outfit on a Monday afternoon ’cause you got duped by one of your afternoon lays. ‘I try, I really do to keep these kinds of shenanigans from Mom, but Sarah Holter (and my brothers) left me no choice that day’.
Nix meets Payton at the mechanic (his brother Crash) and claims not to have money on her for a car until hers is ready. Nix offers to drive Payton to her destination, getting intercepted by his daughter needing her signed permission slip for a field trip. They make a brief stop at his house.
“Where’s Becca’s mom?”
“Gone.”
“Gone where?”
“I’d like to think she’s gone, gone ’cause that’d mean she’s been absent from
her daughter’s life for the past five years for a good reason.
“Ready?”
“She left you and Becca?”
“More like disappeared.”
“I’m sorry. That must’ve been hard for you and Becca.”
“We’re doin’ okay.”
“Were you … are you married?”
“No, never made it to the altar. Last semester of college, Lexi got pregnant. A
few months later, Becca was born, then the next year, Lexi went out for some
milk, or some sh*t and she never came back.”
I know, I know. I’m on a recess. No women! I need a break. Becca is starting to notice the way the moms at her school look at me; the ones I have and haven’t banged. Well, that’s lovely.
“Do you want to take my number? In case you need a ride when your car is ready?”
“No. I’m thinking someone will be here who can give me a lift after work.”
“Are you sure? Why don’t you just put my number in your phone? Just in case?”
“Now … we both know what’ll happen if I take your number.”
“We do?”
“Yes. I’ll call you … we’ll meet up somewhere, spend half the night flirting and the other half f-ing, and then, I’ll leave, and ya know what’ll happen next?”
“What?”
“You’ll think about me. And you won’t stop. You’ll convince yourself that you
need to see me just one more time, but after that one more time, you’ll want another and another until you fall madly in love with me, and oh, what a mess that’ll be.”
“Wait. I’ll fall madly in love with you?”
“You will. Thanks for the ride, Nix.”
I sit, wait, and watch as I convince myself I will not be the one she keeps up at night…
She broke into his room, accosted him with a gun, tried to steal some files, and then kissed him. Yeah, that’s the part that’s got me all screwed up. The kiss. It was strange but familiar. She shoved him in a corner, cut the ties, and disappeared from his room. The intruder returns as assigned but gets distracted by her mark.
It takes him a moment to realise he’s at home in bed and not alone. A masked
intruder, dressed all in black. My eyes dart from gun to mask. There is a stranger with a gun in my house! He’s a she!
I guess this is what you get for working for the government. That’s why the government keeps me on their payroll. Reaching behind her back, she comes around with what looks like black string. Before my head can finish the thought, she’s got the zip tie around my wrists. The government gave me two choices: work for them or go to jail. They contact me with a new program to hack, and sometimes, I may have to travel to a site. Hell, one time they blindfolded me all the way to the job. I opened my eyes to a sterile white room comprised of a desk and a laptop. Crazy shit, it pays good, and when I’m not being their b*tch, I run my own company writing apps and programs and designing websites. Between that and a six-year-old, I keep busy. Not to mention, the occasional, okay, frequent afternoon quickies. Hey, a guy’s gotta get laid. I’m not on the government’s payroll because I’m good, they’re smart enough to know that I’m the best!
His mother tells him she was recently in the grocery and overheard two woman talking about him, hearing how good he is in bed by one woman, let alone two, who are talking about it like it’s the best new place to go work out.
The day Lexi, Allie, Natalie went to the store, she was approached by government agents and threatened, they knew about CG and his involvement. They gave her two options: return home to you and you’d be arrested, or leave right then and work for them and they’d spare you. She chose his freedom knowing he’d be the better parent.
She was assigned a new identity and Payton and Allie were roommates for four years. The government knew if he could find her, he’d come after her. So they gave her a new, ironclad identity and moved her to New York.
This incorporates white hackers, black hackers, the dark web, Cybersecurity and making deals with the government to protect those close to you.
Lexi is the mother of his daughter, she vanished five years ago and Nix hasn’t allowed anyone else the opportunity to fall in love with him because of her abandonment.
Payton’s in his life to honour her promise to Allie and retrieve the data. Payton bought Nix’s freedom from the government and Nix in return bought Payton’s, both released from their service to the government.

Nix was the fourth book in the Daring the Kane Brothers series by Kelly Gendron.
I have taken a hiatus from formal reviews for awhile, but a couple quick thoughts: I liked the premise of the storyline - single devoted dad, mysterious MIA ex, new girl in town - also mysterious. And I liked that it wasn’t predictable and had some twists. However, I would have liked more depth into Nix’s involvement with computers. No spoilers, so no elaboration, but I needed more. In the end the storyline was a hard sell for me but keep an open mind forgoing reality and it will appeal to loyal series fans.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
This is the fourth book in the series, and having recently read all the previous three in anticipation of this one coming out, I can tell you that you should definitely experience the goodness from the very beginning. Nix is a bit of an outlier in the brothers, so I found his story to be a great addition to the series. The other bit of good news is that we do get to see the rest of the family (well, Stone is mentioned at least!) and catch up on their romances too.
Nix has a lot more depth than we might initially imagine. There have been hints in earlier books, but as this one played out, the layers around him peel off to leave him bare. There is the outward view of a very sexy single Dad, who's girlfriend left him holding the baby and has never been seen again (little would you guess why). He has not engaged in any meaningful relationships since - in fact his attitude towards women and sex is to say the least clinical, and since being caught out, pretty much defunct. So when Payton Tucker appears in his sight-lines, he is to say the least confused, but mostly hugely turned on.
Each of the stories have had a moment when the reactions of one or other lead has led to a huge "sigh and ahhh" moment, this one is just as moving as the others, and perhaps even more so as there is a 6 year old girl involved. I am reluctant to say more, because really you need to absorb the story yourself, and be entertained and confounded as much as I was. It is definitely worthwhile.

I have been waiting for Nix's story since the very beginning. He is such a loyal brother to the others while still being the best dad that he knows how. The love he openly give to Becca is so sweet. The intrigue of the computer geek is strong. Sure he has been trying to hand the loss of Lexi with meaningless encounters, but I think that is more of a defense mechanism.

We meet the Kane brothers again and this time we meet Nix.
He’s a single dad, he does a great job too, but he likes his freedom so he’s not looking for any commitments. Then unexpectedly he meets Payton, a woman that intrigues him and puts his mind in a spin. But she’s not what she seems, this beauty is keeping secrets.
As the story unfolds we have a tense drama and the suspense gets heated. I liked the tension in the story and the big question mark about Payton. What is she hiding? Could she be a mother for his daughter and the “one” Nix has been waiting for?
Very entertaining. I highly recommend this excellent book!

We have met Nix in previous books. He is the computer geek, single dad, not looking for commitment Kane brother. This book gives you insight into Nix and it show that there is more to him that meets the eye. We gathered from other stories that Nix was left to raise his daughter when she was small and he been doing on his since with no word from her mom. Nix decide he does not need a meaningful relationship just occasional fun. Then he meets Payton and his view begins to change. Payton had a mission to complete and that was her only goal. Nix and Payton soon found out that sometimes the best laid plans change. I loved how this story had so many layers to it. It drew you in and kept you wondering how the pieces were all going to fall into place. This was really good read. There was just the right of emotions and suspense to draw you and keep your attention!

Nix isn't bashful in stating his demands, "I grab her arm and pull her to me. “I want to see you again,” I whisper." The man is also quite cocky, “I can guarantee when you get naked with me, tomorrow will be the last thing on your mind.” I liked this book, I liked Nix.

This is a great read with an awesome storyline that has well developed and engaging characters that have lots of chemistry. The smooth flow of the storyline makes for a good reading time.

Nix was one of those stories to where I became conflicted throughout. It's not that I didn't really enjoy it, but there were parts that were just a little too extra for me. Nix is a single dad, who refuses to entertain any thoughts of finding love again, and he makes no apologies for it. He's had to raise his tiny human, Becca, by himself, since her bio mom left them right after she was born. Obviously, that plays a huge part into his commitment issues at the end of the day, and I don't even charge an hourly rate for my opinion. Of course, while I loved his heart with his daughter, I wasn't impressed with his man whore ways one bit, however, he never counted on meeting Payton. She has her own issues with commitment, so she wanted either a platonic relationship with Nix, or just a night to hook up. But see, fate brought them together, so fate isn't going to leave them alone, and despite all of their efforts, feelings are being caught anyway. This brings me to the extreme push & pull which seriously set me off, as this is one big thing which was too extra for me. Add in some serious heat, and twists which came out of nowhere to allow me to drop f-bombs loudly, this is a story that I didn't want to put down no matter how frustrated I got. Anyway, one click on Nix for yourselves to find out how it all panned out. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I don't know how I feel about this book. On the one hand I liked where the story was going and it really was good. Then some parts just didn't impress me much.
Nix was an amazing dad. He loved his daughter and he was sweet, funny, sexy and so much more. And when he met Payton it was instant attraction and even though he didn't want a relationship (as his previous one just ended abruptly) he wanted to get to know her, spend time with her and bring her home, etc...
Then there was some weird parts (if you read the book you will understand) they suspense was killing me, and I liked that. But it also made you feel like you didn't know where this was going and what was going to happen next.
And Nix and Payton initially was so good, I loved the back and forth banter. And the fact she didn't give him an inch, but then it was hot one minute and totally cold the next.
Like I said some parts was good, so good and other parts were like WTH... I don't even know if this should be here, lol... But if you like single dad books then definitely read it and maybe you will understand it better than me, lol

Oh man Nix what an amazing man, he is a single father that works hard and provides his daughter with the best she deserves and even though he comes from an amazing family that helps when he asks, he still tries he hardest to be there for everything and he perfect. He’s a hacker of sorts, works helping others with computer issues and helps the government when needed. He is jaded because his baby mama left when their daughter was born without even a goodbye so he uses women for one night only then like a computer program deletes them from his brain, until Payton stumbles into his life. Payton tries to keep things with Nix platonic or just to one night yet their attraction to each other is undeniable and so they pursue things, then it becomes more. They are attracted to each other, but both have their reasons for not wanting anything serious until Nix gives Payton no choice, he wants her and her heart but will she let him in? Things are not what they seem and some people are not who you think they are but it has amazing twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. I really loved Nix and all his siblings and can’t wait for Stone’s story.

Gorgeous. I loved the calming feeling I got from this book, but there was action in there too. It's a weird feeling but it works. I loved the plot and the characters. I loved the vibes I was getting from them. This was a well written book that grabbed my attention from the start. I have not read the others in the series, but this one was definitely the one for me.
Nix is a single dad who has worked his butt off to get to where he is. He was pulled in by the government to do some hacking for them on the side. His daughter, Becca, is the sweetest girl a father could have. Nix has done everything he can to raise an amazing child, and his family has helped him every step of the way. One night, his past and his future come barging in the door all at once.
Payton can get suspicious at times, but I can tell her intentions are pure. She, generally, acts on her feelings and what she believes is right. Although, she too is involved in the government in a different way than Nix is. Nix and Payton's relationship takes a turn for the worst when the truth comes out, and I love the amount of strength their love has to overcome the challenges they face.

What another great story from this author.
I just loved Nix but felt sorry for him as well. Here he was a single father trying to do the best he can. the issue was he had his heart very guarded. His ex had hurt him bad. My heart truly broke for him.
Through this whole story I kept trying to figure out Payton. Something just did not seem right about her. There were things through out the book that set up red flags for me. Where I would stop and say, “Wait a minute something isn’t right”. I did truly felt she had feelings for Nix but I kept wonder what she was up to.
I just loved Nix’s little girl and how she alway kept him on his toes. She had me laughing though out the book. I have to say I truly loved the tender moments that were included in this story with Nix and his little girl. We got to see the burdens, worries, and struggles he had.
There were some pretty steamy parts in this book and some of the steamy parts that had you wondering. To me it had the right amount of mystery, drama, and passion in the book. It is a book I would highly recommend.

Kelly Gendron’s back with the fourth book from her fantastic Kane Brothers Series, it's a standalone read but I highly recommend that you read the previous books in the series as they are great read too. This is Nix’s story, he’s the nerdy, sexy, single dad to six-year-old Becca, from the very beginning of this series there’s always been something alluring about him I just knew his story would be an interesting one and trust me when I say it didn’t disappoint. Curiouser and Curiouser. That is what happened to me as I read through the pages of Nix. The author had me going in so many different directions that I couldn't decide who the bad guy was and in the end I am still not sure about the Boss. Have I got you curious?
Nix is the computer genius of the Kane family. Who doesn't love a hunky geek? Nix is a single father to a cute little girl, Becca. She is precocious six year that keeps Nix on his toes. Single, dedicated dad--what's not to love. And like his mom, I am not impressed with his whoring ways.
Thankfully, Payton comes colliding into his world just in time. Nix isn't sure what hits him and when the hits keep coming from his past he isn't sure what is going to happen next. The hints and hits keep coming. Let the guessing begin. Let the romance blossom. Get ready because you never know what you will find on the next page or in the bedroom.

This is the fourth book in the series but they can be read as standalone books. I haven’t read the first two book but I have read the third. I didn’t feel confused or anything. It just made me want to read the first two and find out their story. Nix is a single father. He sometimes works for the government and owns his own business. He is also has needs he sates often with some of the mothers from the PTA. He doesn’t want anything long term. His daughter is the only woman he needs in his life. Then he meets Payton. He is torn she reminds him so much of his ex. She smells like her and says some of the same things. Could he let her in? This book has some twists and turns as well as some cry worthy moments. I loved Crash’s book and this one didn’t disappoint either. These brothers are there for each other. They may give each other crap but when its important they are there for each other. I look forward to reading more about these brothers. Great job Kelly.

I really had a love/meh relationship with this book. When it was great it was GREAT but there were quite a few things that really pulled me out of truly loving this one.
To break it down, here’s what I loved:
Nix was a great dad. He was sweet, fun and so loving with his little girl.
He was also hot AF. Like full on 🔥🔥🔥🤤🤤🤤 hot.
The instant attraction between Nix and Payton rapidly grew into something both sweet and hot that I really loved!
What I didn’t love:
Things were confusing. While the mystery and suspense the author was building definitely kept me guessing it also left me feeling like I had missed A LOT.
The rapid switches between hot and cold with Nix and Payton certainly built things up, but they also added to the moments that left me scratching my head.
Overall this book is pretty enjoyable and maybe I’m just a dummy who didn’t get it (that’s a real possibility 🤣)

“Nix” is the fourth book in Kelly Gendron’s Daring the Kane Brothers Series and my first read by her. Nix is a sexy computer geek, raising his daughter alone after his girlfriend ran out on them. He is a devoted father and an equally devoted playboy. After getting caught with his hand in multiple cookie jars, he swears off casual hookups which means sex because he does not do relationships. Payton is new in town, she is sexy, sweet and a tease. When these two meet, sparks fly. For the first time since his ex, Nix is interested in more than just sex and starts to woo her. For her part, Payton is falling hard for the playboy but is hiding a secret that could destroy them before they become something. In the end, these two interesting characters get their much deserved happily ever after and how it happens will surprise you. (I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review).

If that isn't enough, there is a six year old girl that is the apple of both these characters eyes, can she bring them all together? Kane Brothers just keep getting better...
Single parent stories are favorites of mine, and watching the family dynamics in this one makes me love this series even more.
Nix is avoiding relationships and focusing on raising his daughter. He isn't looking for love and doesn't want anything to interfere with this daughter.
Payton is focusing on a task, but can't deny the attraction she has for Nix.
