Colton

From the moment she showed up on my doorstep, I knew our lives would never be the same. I felt it deep in my soul that she was going to change us forever. I didn’t know how, but I knew she was important. I tried to maintain the distance between us, but it was too strong to fight.

With each passing day, I saw a future I never planned flash before my eyes—one with a fairytale ending. The only problem is that someone wanted to take that away from me, away from us. I just found her, and no way am I letting her go that easily. Hollis is family, my family, and I’ll do whatever it takes to protect her.

Hollis

Colton Callahan wasn’t what I expected. I was in desperate need of a fresh start, ready for something new, but all it took was one look at those intoxicating blue eyes for me to reevaluate everything. I tried to stay detached, but something about him just called to me.

It took no time at all for me to fall. Not only for the man I share a living space with, but also his son, Milo. The problem is my past is not too far behind, trailing behind me and slowly catching up. When it finally does, I have a choice to make—run away, leaving them behind, or stay and fight, potentially putting them in danger. Either way, I could lose it all.

I'm too lazy to write a review but,

roommates 👫🏻+ single dad👨‍👦 + cute baby👶🏻 + insta-love-lust 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨+ the most unlikely drama 🤷🏽‍♀️ + cute baby again 👶🏻= HEA

Overall Thoughts:

I enjoyed this series, it was a light read, I had a good time reading it, but my problem with the three books is that there wasn't much development of the characters and sometimes everything felt so over the top.

A sweet and light read, which at the start had me smiling a fair bit and sinking into my sofa. The story involves single dad Colton Callahan and the woman who rents the in-law apartment from him, Hollis, who has shadows in her eyes. Hollis is looking for a fresh start, romance is the last thing on her mind, but from the very first meeting with her sexy landlord attraction sizzles in the air.

The relationship between the two develops rather quickly. I liked the two together but wanted some oomph to things half way through. I was a little disappointed by how the author resolved the plot strand involving Hollis and what she was trying to escape.

I liked the banter between Colton and his brother Chase they amused me.

Even though it's part of a series, it can be comfortably read as a standalone.

Can't Fight It is the third and final instalment in the Fair Lakes Series. I have been looking forward to Colton’s story and I just knew that Kaylee and Lacey would deliver big time.

I loved Colton and Hollis together. They had an immediate and scorching hot chemistry, and it just kept getting hotter, the more time they spent together. But underneath it all, there was an undeniably sweet connection. Their story touched my heart and made me swoon with its sweetness.

Can’t Fight It is a great addition to this series. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black always impresses in delivering a swoon worthy romance. Their stories are so easy to read. You get lost in their characters and they always send you on a journey that you don't want to end. I’ve so enjoyed this fantastic series.

I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review.
What a amazing story. Once I started, I couldn’t seem to put it down. Colton and Hollis had me intrigued right from the very beginning. They were easy to relate to, and I felt as though I could connect easily with them. I felt this book was very well written. I love when a book has me so immersed that I don't realize I've come to the end until I try to swipe to the next page but there are none left. This is one you will not want to miss!

Can’t Fight It is book 3 in the Fair Lakes series by Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan. This is Colton and Hollis's story. Book 3 picks up where Just Getting Started (book 2) ended.
Colton was career military until something life changing happens. He ends up getting out and moving back home. Colton doesn't mind what happened or that he has to literally change gears but it seems life isnt done with handling him surprises- Hollis.
Hollis shows up and Colton thought that she was supposed to be a "he". She was moving into the in-law apartment attached to the new house Colton recently moved in. When Hollis showed up, the sparks fly between them. Colton is fighting his feelings and doesn't know if he is ready to start a relationship with Hollis while Hollis is hiding secrets from Colton and hoping her secrets won't end up putting Colton and his loved ones in danger. Will they get their HEA ?
This was a touching and sweet romance that had some tension, some angst, some danger , action, excitement, beautiful romance , family, passion, and love. Great ending with lots of feels!

My Rating: 4.5 stars ********

Whew boy, can I just say that these two are quite the pair when they write together. I love Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black independently but as a duo they are dynamite in the very best ways and I hope they keep this new trend of wiring together up.

The Fair Lakes series has been brilliant in every single way and what a journey this was. Steamy. Sweet. Swoony. Intense. A little twisty. Packed with all of those pesky feels in the very best ways. The third standalone in this series, Can't Fight It gives us Hollis and Colton’s (+ sweet Milo!) story and lemme say, your heart (and maybe some other parts *wink*) ain't ready for all this beauty. When these two FINALLY give in, all bets are off.

Whether you read these two ladies together or independently, you'll find unforgettable words, beautiful heroines, and irresistible alphas.

Run don't walk to read this romance.

I highly recommend this book.

Moving into a new house, single dad Colton is proud of the decision he has made to put his son, Milo, first. Having an in-law apartment attached to the house also gives Colton some monetary breathing room. The only problem is that Hollis happens to be a female instead of the male he thought was moving in. A bigger problem happen to be the instant spark he feels for Hollis the moment he opens the front door. Can he allow someone else into his heart while he puts Milo first? Or will the baggage she brings with her be too much for Colton to deal with? Honestly there is nothing better than reading about a single dad caring for his child, but add in the hopefulness of also finding not only a lover but someone who will also put the baby first was just heartwarming. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black have written in such a way that the reader feels like they are part of the family. Every emotion is felt by not only the characters but the readers as well. Another perfect addition to the series.

I was so looking forward to Colton’s book & was so excited to be given an arc! Milo & Colton are absolutely ovaries explodingly cute! This book made me have baby fever for sure!

Hollis & Colton are so sweet together. This is definitely a boom type love book! I really liked getting to visit with all the other characters from previous books. The only thing I wish there was more of is Hollis’ back story.

Other than that this book is exactly why I love a Kaylee Ryan/Lacey Black read. I received an arc of this book in return for an honest review.

No cheating-no ow/om

This the conclusion of Harrison, Chase and Colton. It must be said the All Fit men, possess over active hormones and see their wives as baby making factories. Their pregnant wives haven’t given birth yet, they’re already planning ahead to the next.

Colton enlisted in the Army when he was eighteen, brash and unsure of life. He knew that he didn’t want to go to college. A recruiter visited his high school and spoke with the senior class, his decision felt right. Colton graduated and enlisted into the military for twelve years and would have been career army, had he not been home on leave and met Laura.

He would come home on leave, for a couple of weeks. His last leave of absence, Chase and Colt met up, and got drunk. Knowing he was going away for at least nine months, he celebrated with Laura...Milo, his son, was the result. At three weeks, he was dropped off at Chase’s home with a note attached, explaining that Laura, didn’t wish to be a mother, mistakenly assuming that she slept with Chase as he’d told Laura that his name was Chase.

A paternity test proved that Chase was a 25% match, proving he was not Chase’s but Colton’s. Colt coincidentally happened to be home for a visit after Chase got the paternity results and chose not to reenlist. The moment he found out Milo was his son, he quit the Army to take care of him, gaining an honourable discharge. The Mum was significantly younger but had told Colt that she was twenty-six, when she was actually twenty-one. Unprepared for the responsibility of raising a baby, she relinquished her parental rights, giving Colt full custody. He’s now a single father to a little boy whose mother signed her rights away to him.

Chase playfully taunting Colton:::

“Whatever, dude. I mean, yes, she is totally hot. The hottest. Right, Milo? Auntie Gabrielle is a f-g knock-out and gets Uncle Chase’s pee-pee hard all the time,” Chase says as he crouches down and swipes his nephew off the floor. Milo kicks happily and nestles into Chase’s arm, his little eyes hanging on his uncle’s every word.
“Don’t talk about your pee-pee in front of my son, Teeny.” Chase, ignoring the comment from his brother, looks down at the baby and says, “Daddy knows it’s not teeny. In fact, it’s pretty big. Right, Aunt Gabby?”

Chase and Colt are close-knit, comical siblings..now that they’ve banded together, they’re catching up on their sibling camaraderie.
Hollis and Colton were cute together.

This is one of the most amazing writing partnerships evah! This is the third book in a series put out by this duo of authors and each one is more amazing than the last! Colton & Hollis's story picks up where Just Getting Started ended, and it's everything I hoped for, and so much more!

Colton was career army, until his life is thrown for a loop, and everything changes. But he doesn't regret his decisions. On the contrary, he has jumped into his new life feet first, and is taking each new day as the gift that it is. But then, when he least expects it, one more surprise is thrown in his path. The question is, is this a good surprise, or a bad one?!?

Hollis is an enigma. She shows up, knowing no one, holding her past close to her chest. I could tell she was hiding something, or running from something. But I had no clue how crazy that something was!

Colton and Hollis had an immediate, scorching connection, and it just kept getting hotter! But underneath it all, was a sweet, perfectness that was undeniable. Their story grabbed my heart, and just would not let go! Definitely a swoon-worthy book, quintessential in it's own small town way! Absolutely what I needed, exactly what I wanted in a romance!

Can’t Fight It is the third book in the Fair Lakes series by Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan. I am loving this series and it’s characters. You can read each as standalone but I recommend reading the series since they are amazing! If you read Just Getting Started then you know the beginning of Colt’s story. The newly titled single dad...

Colton knew it was time to take his honorable discharge for the Army after twelve years when he found out his was a father. His son only a month old. And now a few months later, they were making home in a new house and a civilian job at All Fit as a trainer and class instructor. He was making moves to secure a good life for his son, Milo. And with that he decided to rent out his in-law apartment. He was expecting a man named Hollis. Who showed up was a woman named Hollis and he knew from the moment he saw her he was a fucked. She was beautiful, sweet, and would change everything.

Hollis needed a fresh start so went to her Grandma’s hometown of Fair Lakes. It wasn’t California and she loved the small-town. It was the perfect place to start over. What she didn’t expect was him. Her hot AF landlord and cute as a button son. She needed to stay on her side of the wall and work. She was a web designer so she can work from anywhere and hearing Colton talk and sing to Milo made it hard to stay away. It was a fight for sure. Especially after taking him up on his offer of taking his self-defense class at the gym.

Colton and Hollis’s relationship is beautiful, sweet, sexy, and so much fun. It just seemed so easy from the beginning but Hollis was holding back. There was a reason why she wanted to start over. What will happen when Colton finds out that reason?

I loved it!! Lacey and Kaylee is amazing with babies and kids. Seriously. They are not just in the background. They are right there with the main characters. A man holding and taking care of a baby? Swoon!! Really though, the story is full of suspense, love, family, friendships, and laughter. I gave me all the feels!!

Quotes:

“Milo wants you to come.” I’m aware of how desperate I sound right now. She smiles, and it sets my world on fire.
“Oh, Milo wants me to come?” She crosses her arms over her chest and leans against the doorframe.
“That’s what he said. Told me not to come back to the living room unless you had agreed to go.”

I have so many ways to keep her hot and bothered. She isn’t aware that she’s just given me permission to unleash the beast.

“Of course it was about a girl!” Chase hollers. “He knew she liked me!”
“She thought you were cute, like a puppy. Ellie Jacobs was interested in a man, not a boy,” Colton boasts proudly, rubbing his chest.
“Man? You were sixteen. The other one hadn’t even dropped yet,” Chase argues, making everyone laugh.

This is easily my favorite book in this series! Filled with so much emotion, intrigue, suspense, an epic romance AND the cutest little boy ever, this is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year!

We met Colton briefly at the end of the last book in the series (which while this is a standalone, I recommend reading the other two books) who is now a single parent to the adorable Milo. These two have such an epic bond, and watching the two to them interact and learning from one another had me swooning so hard. This has got to be one of the best single dad romances available!

Hollis is in desperate need of a new start, and has no intentions of turning heads or even wanting a relationship.. But that all changes when she sees who her new landlord is. From the start there's an undeniable connection between these two, and their relationship is just so *easy* and natural. You know they are just meant to be together. But when Hollis's past threatens to ruin her future, will she be able to keep these two men that she loves the most?

If you read any series at all this year, please read this one. They are all emotional, filled with swoony moments and true love, and they only get better and better as the series progresses. I can't recommend this beautiful book enough!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!!**

5 SMOOCHES!

I've really enjoyed this series, and as a long-time reader of Lacey Black’s, these collaborations with Kaylee Ryan have been fantastic. These characters are relatable and endearing, and I’ve gotten lost in each of these books. While each book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order.

Colton’s story kicks off in the previous book in the series, Just Getting Started when he returns home from the military to learn that he’s a single father. Fast-forward a few months, he’s building a life for himself and his son, Milo, when he decides to rent out the in-law suite of his home. Hollis took Colton by surprise in a lot of ways. Hollis guards her past fiercely, and she’s in Fair Lakes, her grandmother’s hometown, for a fresh start. The sparks were flying between them, but Colton and Hollis took it slow, and their sweet friendship finally caught fire.

I love single dad romances, and Can’t Fight It was a really great one. Sweet, sexy and emotional with a bit of a suspenseful edge, Lacey and Kaylee did a phenomenal blending their styles into an unputdownable story. Five smooches from me for Can’t Fight It by Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black!

Colton has spent the last decade serving in the military but when he finds out in the most unorthodox way that he is a single father life as he knows it is about to change. He has now left the military in his past and is building a new future for him and his son. When he decides to rent out a suite in his new home the surprise was on him when his roommate turned out to be female.

Hollis needed to escape the life she was living and where better than the town that help many happy memories for her grandmother. All she wanted was to keep a low profile but she wasn’t expecting the feelings she would develop for father and son or that her past would not only endanger their relationship but the people she had come to love as well.

Hollis and Colton were both amazing characters who seemed to adapt to whatever life threw at them both good and bad. The connection between them was unexpected yet undeniable and has you hoping that they will get the happy ever after they both deserve.

This is the third book in the series and dare I say my favorite!!! I loved Colton & Hollis’ story. I always look for stories that I can lose myself in and Can’t Fight It was the perfect story to. Colton’s life was turned upside down recently and he’s learning to navigate it now. He thought Hollis would be the perfect tenant until he realized he was actually a girl! Their story is full of moments where I fell for Colton over and over again! This is a must read!

What a suspenseful read from Kaylee and Lacey! After finding out he has a son he knew nothing about, Colton retires from the Army and starts to settle into civilian life while also transitioning into learning how to be a father. As a way to make extra money to offset the mortgage, he decides to rent out the in-law suite of his new house to a guy he hasn’t met before but skimmed over the background check. Hollis is running away from a situation that happened in her hometown, and decided to go where her grandmother found true love. Renting a room from Colton, she realizes that he has no clue she’s actually a girl, nor does she realize how gorgeous he is! When Colton meets Hollis he is completely distraught over not knowing she’s a girl and has second thoughts because he’s insanely attracted to her. What starts as a friendship between them grows into more, but when Hollis’ past comes to town and threatens not only her relationship but Colton’s son, their relationship comes into question. I really enjoyed the storyline and loved the level of suspense, but felt cheated when finding out what the suspense and situation from Hollis’ past actually was. Aside from that, I definitely enjoyed the book and the continuation of this series from these authors!

I love the Fair Lakes series, but Can’t Fight it is hands down my favorite of the three. Single dad? Swoon. Some suspense? Yes, please! Super adorable baby? Yes! Hilarious brotherly banter? Sign me up!

Colton is a single father. He left the army to take care of his son. Hollis left her old life in California and is looking for a fresh start in Fair Lakes. Colton and Hollis become unlikely roommates and from the moment they meet there is an instant attraction between them. I loved the chemistry between Colton and Hollis. Their relationship developed quickly, but it never felt rushed.

Colton is ADORABLE with Milo. There are so many sweet father/son moments throughout this story and they will melt your heart. Hollis and Milo is also adorable. There are so many sweet moments between those two, too. Plus, the three of them together. It leads to some very adorable moments. I loved the relationship between Colton and Chase, too. They have the perfect brotherly banter and it lead to plenty of laughs throughout the story.

Can’t Fight It also has some suspense mixed in and I was loving that aspect of the story, though I kind of wanted a little bit more drama when it came to learning about Hollis’s past and why she left her hometown.

Can’t Fight It is a MUST READ and one of my TOP READS of 2020.

If you want a book that will make your heart melt then this is the one you need! Colton and Hollis are a match made in heaven! Colton is the type of single dad that will cause ovaries to explode. When his new tenant turns out to be the beautiful Hollis, sparks immediately fly. You will love witnessing the relationship Colton has with his son, as well as how Hollis cannot resist falling in love with such a precious baby boy. As the theee spend more time together, she and Colton fall hard for one another. This relationship is not without its challenges of course, Hollis has her own secret she is keeping and it brings out Colt’s protective side. In the end, this is a feel good single dad story you will not want to put down!

We are back at Fair Lakes and its Colton's story. He is raising Milo on his own and he doesn't really have much spare time, so a personal life is not really on his mind. But, these two, are just ADORABLE. He's a really good father to his son. Hollis is renting a room in his house, and these two definitely have this attraction towards each other. Once they can't deny it any longer, it was really great to see their walls break down and give into all their feelings.

There is a little bit of suspense, it was really nice to see the characters from the previous books. The guys are so protective and sweet with their gals. This was such a easy, sweet, not overdramatic story to read.

Can’t Fight It is book 3 in the Fair Lakes series and can be read as a standalone, but to get the whole story I would highly recommend reading from book 1.

After reading books 1 & 2 I was hooked on this series, easy to read and great romances; when I finished Just Getting Started I was desperate for Colton’s story, I have my fingers and toes crossed that Colton is going to get his own book! Was my exact quote from my previous review.

Colton has been thrown into the deep end, giving up his life in the military to become a single Dad; he wouldn’t have it any other way. When his new tenant shows up the door and changes everything, he starts to wonder how they will survive with out her. Hollis is hiding her own secrets and will those secrets put Colton and Milo in danger?

This story was great, thank you Ryan & Black .

Can't Fight It is the third book in the Fair Lakes series by the talented duo of Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan. This series is so much fun! This is Colton, Chase's brothers story. He's home from the Army and now has a baby to take care of. He's trying to do the best he can, a job, a house and now he just needs a roommate. As soon as he sees Hollis, he wants her. And that's a very bad thing. Right? He can't get involved with his roommate, that will end badly. But Hollis quickly becomes more than just a roommate. His son, Milo, loves her. His family and friends too. After one taste of her, he can't stay no anymore. Can they make it work? Will Hollis want to be part of his family? I have a soft spot for a single dad romance and I loved this one! Milo brought them together and he was such a big part of the story. Colton and Hollis's story was fun, sexy, with a little suspense. Overall, I laughed, got hot and bothered and really enjoyed it!

This book is one of those books that sucks you in right from the start and keeps you hanging until the very end. Colton and Hollis were so easy to relate too and their relationship was just well written. For sure, the best book in this series with a little suspense and a lot of love and warm feelings.

Can't Fight It is the perfect way to describe how the words of this story will affect you, as there is no way to fight the emotions that Colton and Hollis will bring out. Their story is heartwarming, sexy, flirty, enchanting and absolute pure bliss. A story that will wrap its way firmly around your heart and leave you on a high of pure love. As you take another journey back to Fair Lakes there will be no disappointment with your choice of destination, it will be more like a case of I don't want to leave. A beautifully written story that will leave you feeling the warmth of their love coursing through your veins.

BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY...😍

What a beautiful love story.....SIGH! It had everything. Colton and Milo touched my heart. Colton was such a kind and sensitive man. The descriptions of how he was with Milo were so heartwarming. Hollis and Colton clicked right away and their love story was sweet, sizzling and tender. I loved this book. It has a sense of just how a perfect romance should be with absolute believability!!! All the characters are interesting, supportive and there for each other. There was a lot of cute banter between the friends that made me laugh! A little bit of mystery was woven throughout the book. There was only a small bit of angst which I like... Too many books depend on chapter after chapter of angst to fill pages..... I find that boring. I was grateful for the very satisfying epilogues which I really love. Thanks Kaylee and Lacey for them! You guys rock! I highly recommend this book... If you want to be immersed in a feel good read, especially at this time of chaos and stress, give this book a chance you won't be sorry!! 😇
