Heartless King (Kings of Rittenhouse) Kindle Edition
Five years ago, Colm Frost asked me to marry him and I ran. I ran from my painful past too raw and fresh to escape. He was the only one who looked at me like I wasn’t broken and made me believe it. He made me feel it.
Now, he’s the hot, angry, hockey player on the mend.
I’m the physiotherapist who’s supposed to get him back on his feet.
I don’t think our night together was what his doctor prescribed, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t dreamt of him every time I close my eyes. I woke up beside him with my body still singing from the way he fanned the flames of my desire, but I couldn’t stay.
His lips on my neck. His hands wrapped around my waist. His impressive...ahem, touch leaving me breathless.
One moment of wild inhibition and it’s come back to bite me in the butt. Kind of like he did that night.
But a baby? Our night was supposed to be a one time thing, closing a door on the future I couldn’t handle.
Will this new bump in the road be everything we needed to find our forever?
Heartless King is a standalone friends to enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy romance that brings all the laugh out loud, angsty feels!

About the author

Maya Hughes, that's me!, can often be found sneaking in another chapter while hiding in the bathroom from her kids! :-) I’m a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, namely my husband and biggest fan. Inspiration also strikes when I hear a song, meet someone new or daydream while at soccer practice.
I’m the mom of three little ones, the wife to an amazing husband and also work full time. Some of my favorite things are cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, white wine, laughing until I can’t breathe, traveling with my family and Jeff Goldblum.

- Reviewed in Australia on 13 June 2021Verified PurchaseAmazing. This may have just topped Ruthless King. Colm & Imo’s story was so pure and endearing. The development and pacing was just perfection. Definitely one of Maya’s best work!!
- Reviewed in Australia on 22 July 2020Heartless king is the fifth book in the Kings of Rittenhouse series, however it can be read as a stand alone. It’s a friends to enemies to lovers, accidentally pregnancy romance that is a beautiful angsty journey about loss, grief, letting go and healing.
3.5 stars
Colm has spectacularly gone off the rails when things in his life and career haven’t gone to plan, and the one to see it all start to unfold is none other than the girl he proposed to five years earlier, Imogen. One night and over a ten pregnancy test later Colm and Imogen find themselves with a bit of a bump in their future.
Whilst this is stand alone I do believe if I had of read the previous books in the series it would have enhanced my reading experience. All in all this book was an enjoyable read and I plan on reading the other books in this series.

Spoken In: Colm/..... I'll leave you all guessing who the heroine is for a little while longer!
Rating: 5 Stars ⭐️
Heartless King is the fifth and final book in Maya Hughes Kings of Rittenhouse series. It is a standalone but I would totally recommend reading them all in order to get the full experience of their story.
Well Maya definitely saved the best for last because I absolutely LOVED this book! Emmett has always been my favourite King with his Avery but Colm has completely stolen my heart as well as his other half.
Colm was an absolute jerk at times, but you can kind of understand where he is coming from. He's in a rough spot and only our leading lady come get him out of his rut. She is also dealing with a lot from her past and trying to live day by day. They were absolute perfection together, its not always easy and they have to work at it but I'm so happy that they both got the happily ever after they deserve!
Although I am so sad to see the end to this amazing series, Maya did an outstanding job with this ending and my heart is so full. Hoping to see the crowd again in the future.... Maybe a spin off series with Bailey and a certain hockey player?.....Hmmmmm.

- Reviewed in Australia on 24 April 2020Did it seem to you that Colm's story took years and years to be released - or is that just me? I feel like I have waited forever and a day for his book, and how very cliché of me to say it was definitely worth the wait indeed.
Colm quite literally stole my heart. He was so many times throughout the book a stubborn so and so, but how he came in to his own and redeemed himself was truly magnificent to read. That he found his perfect partner in Imogen was really the icing on the cake. I adored her. She was strong when she needed to be but also wasn't shy in showing her vulnerability. Out of both the main characters she was the most realistic of the two.
But with all the greatness of this book, there is also sorrow. The Kings of Rittenhouse series has come to an end and whereas I am beyond happy that I was able to read them all, I feel a little hollow knowing that there will be no more. But having said that I do look forward to reading whatever Maya releases next. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book

This was my favourite Rittenhouse book. I loved Colm and Imo and are SO glad we get their stories.
I’m a big sucker for wounded heroes and Colm, he’s got a boatload of baggage and watching him overcome it was a sight to read.
I’m so glad we got Imo’s story. She again had a boatload of baggage to overcome, but again, watching her overcome it was extremely enjoyable.
I love how close these guys are, but I did want to see more of their ladies. I also thought it was a tad bit short, or did I read it too quickly? Anyway, I would’ve liked to have seen more in between the last chapter and the epilogue.
This was a great end to this series and I’m sad to see it go!
- Reviewed in Australia on 23 April 2020I absolutely loved this series by Maya and this story of Colm and Imo was absolutely one that I was waiting for, since the Rittenhouse boys first finished High School❣️ I’m going to have to implore Maya to think of a second generation of Kings as I’m sure we will all want to visit the Kings and their Queens again in the future😍
This story was a bit emotional for a few reasons, mainly because we knew Imogen had lost Preston, her boyfriend in one of the very first books and also because of Colm’s past and having to raise Liv because their parents were no longer around and finally because this is the final book of the series.....for now😜
Anywho, this is a great series and the characters are amazing but flawed which is what we all look for in great love stories and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who asked😁 Thank you to Maya for my advanced copy for which I voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
- Reviewed in Australia on 23 April 2020Heartless King is absolutely breathtaking!
I loved everything about Imo and Colm’s story.
Imogen and Colm complement each other so well. They are both extremely hard workers, take care of their loved ones and have been through unbelievable life events and have still come out stronger. They both deserve the absolute world!
Heartless King truly had all the emotions wrapped into this one. It was heartbreaking, heartwarming, sweet, sexy, funny and hands down just a beautiful written story.
I am honestly still a little bit speechless since finishing this book, I don’t think words can describe how much I loved it.
Maya Hughes, thank you so much for writing such a wonderful series! I loved every book and you’ve outdone yourself with the Heartless King!
It’s so bittersweet to see this series end. I’m so sad to say goodbye but the final book was a perfect end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seeing the broken and trying to trust
Verified PurchaseHEARTLESS KING (Kings of Rittenhouse #5)
Maya Hughes
Colm & Imogen
POV:DUAL
Can be read as a standalone, but most enjoyable read in order.
Colm, taking over the parent role to his little sister when his parents passed away when he was a teenager. The responsible one out of his group of friends/teammates/family. Has fallen down a rabbit hole, after two back-to-back knee injuries within months of each other. Been cheated on, proposed & then the girl bolted, lied to by his best friend and sister being together. He's wallowing in self pity, booze and becoming a hermit.
But his friends are not giving up on him, constantly being at his place.
Then they bring in the next best thing, Imogen. Who's a physiotherapist.
Imogen, who hasn't had the best growing up, loosing her parents as a teenager and then her boyfriend who also played hockey. She's known the Kings for years. Now she's a physiotherapist. Doesn't really have a social life, between work and still helping out Preston's parents that's about it.
Until one night she runs into Colm on a rare night out and things heat up resulting in a one night stand. Just the two of them looking for comfort, knowing that they're probably the same.
When the guys come to Imogen asking her to get Colm back and up on the ice and on the team again. She puts their one night together at the back of her mind. And does what she's paid to do.
Colm trys to push Imogen away, but she's got sass and just keeps coming back.
Can they get along without ripping each other apart?
This is one wild emotional rollercoaster of a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Colm e Imogem

5.0 out of 5 stars “Who Better than Another Broken Person to Look Through the Cracks in the Armor He Wore?”
Verified PurchaseBig-hearted, vulnerable hero with baggage who’s lost his way✔
Kind, loyal, heartbroken heroine living for everyone but herself✔
A family cobbled together with friends of the heart✔
Emotional, exhilarating ride you’ll never want to end✔
Oh, my heart, this book! I’ve missed a couple of books in this series, but this one more than makes up for it! It's so full of deep emotions that it whiplashed my heart, and has just the right amount of perfectly placed humor that it put a smile on my face and a happy sigh in my heart by the end.
Colm is the caretaker of the group. The big brother. The voice of reason. And the guy who’s always searching for his own HEA. He's also at the top of his professional hockey career until he suffers an injury to his knee. His rehab goes well the first time around, until he reinjures his knee. With the new injury, he loses the will to care, his love for the ice, and his heart. Our hero spirals into deep depression, lashing out at his family, friends, and anyone who wants to help him, like the wounded animal he is.
Imogen puts everyone and everything else before her own happiness. She lost her fiancé to a tragic accident several years ago and she's stuck in the past. When the trainer from Colm's team asks her to help with his rehab, she knows she's the last person Colm wants to see. Sure, they're in the same friend group, but her ghosting him after one unforgettable night together still stings.
Colm and Imo together are out-of-this-world amazing! I adore their snark and sass and banter, but it's their moments of vulnerability, their sharing past hurts and learning to lean on each other, that really owned my heart. They’re my favorite kind of YA characters – authentic and believable without immaturity or game playing.
This story is hit after hit, directly to the heart, and I loved every bump and roadblock on this journey to happily ever after! This book is head and shoulders above the vast majority of books in this trope, and I hope you'll run to the 1-Click and start reading right away. Colm and Imo's story is heartfelt, humorous and memorable, and these characters will live in your heart long after the last page. Don’t miss it!

3.0 out of 5 stars So inconsistent with previous books of the series
Verified PurchaseThis book was so inconsistent specially the timeline.
This story happens right after the end of rthe previous book, having an overlapping scene. If the previous story was 2.5- 3 years maximum after their summer at the beach, how come this book is 5 years after the same summer???
It was really uncomfortable to read because I was always expecting the next inconsistency. Ex: In the beginning it’s mentioned Imo’s parents died her freshman year of college and then she tells the details of how it all happened the spring break her senior year of high school.
I read so many books from Maya Hughes and I usually love them. This is probably why I was so disappointed…
