After Sadie hooks up with J. on a discreet kink app, they go back to living separate lives on opposite sides of the country. He's the last person she expects to see at a work conference six months later.
Worse? Jared is her assistant's brother. He acts like he hates her, but the way he watches her proves he's not as indifferent as he pretends.
Nothing can happen between them. The lines are too blurry.
Why does she crave his attention? Why is it so easy to submit to the man she hates?
Sportsball is for Lovers is an insta-bang enemies-to-lovers sports-adjacent story featuring a meddling brother, found family, and charcuterie bento boxes in dinosaur lunchboxes.
“Sportsball is for Lovers” is Jacob and Sadie’s enemies to lovers romance, and I thought it was a really cute story!
This book had a lot of really lighthearted, hilarious scenes, but it also dealt with more serious manners in a way that seemed genuine and realistic.
Jacob and Sadie had a lot to work through, both as a couple and as individuals, but I was rooting for them to find happiness together the whole time.
All in all, I thought this was an adorable story with likable characters. Allie Lasky is a new to me author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m really glad I gave it a chance!
This book starts off HOT and the story moves fast! I loved this read! Both main characters have some pudge to them and aren’t perfect. I love how the author incorporated that into the book and made them so loveable too!
Jared is a pleasure dom and Sadie is a neurospicy author. The two meet up via a kink app and what was meant to be a one night hook up became their happily ever after. I highly recommend this fun read. The story is fast moving, is light but enthralling and I read it all in one read. It was exactly what I needed.
Spice from page one? Sign me up! Sportsball is for Lovers was such a fun and well written story. I loved the chronic illness and mental health representation. Sadie was a fantastic fmc, she was strong and confident. Jared was the perfect book boyfriend. He was understanding and supportive of Sadie.
Sportsball Is for Lovers is a cute romance story with plenty of spice that begins right from the very first page. So if you're looking for a story that's definitely not a slow burn romance then Sportsball Is For Lovers is the book for you.
I loved that a majority of the story is set at a book convention and that Sadie is a sports romance author who writes about baseball and hockey.
I absolutely loved Jared and LOVE that he enjoys reading romance novels. Also, the way that he takes interest in her writing and even offers suggestions to help her with her book is so sweet. 🥰
The scene where he's at the convention with her and buys books from some of the other authors at the convention was one of my favorites.💕
Another one of my favorites was the scene when he was helping her at the craft fair along with when she finally realizes how she truly feels about Jared.
These are just a few of my favorite lines/quotes from Sportsball Is for Lovers;
"Denver’s hockey team isn’t last in the league—they’re third from the bottom, thank you very much." {Chapter 6, page 42}
"It’s the end of March, but Denver’s season is pretty much done in the next four weeks, anyway. There’s not a snowball’s chance in Arizona that they can win every single one of the seventeen remaining games to make it into playoff contention. Gretzky, Datsyuk, Orr, Crosby, AND Bergeron combined couldn’t do it. Denver? They don’t stand a chance." {Chapter 14, page 93}
“Okay, I need food before I m**der someone for fun,” I announce. Yoni sighs. “Babe, you can’t say things like that out loud.” “Why not?” “Because you don’t write m**der books. You write sexy books.” I shrug. “A little m**der between friends can totally be an aphrodisiac.” {Chapter 17, page 111}
“Holy h*ll on a Cheez-It. Your thoughts are so loud, you’re giving me anxiety.” {Chapter 28, page 190}
This was my first book from Allie but I look forward to reading more of her work including the other books in the Neurospicy Book Club series. 🩷
*I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The opening of this book is one to remember, that's for sure. I was here for it, though. It gave me all my feelings right away, and that's a great way to start a great read.
Being neurospicy, both ADHD and high functioning autistic, this book was right on my level with a neurospicy ADHD FMC. And our author does all us ADHD'rs justice.
The way Allie describes Sadie, our FMC, is so perfect. And Sadie's arc is outstanding. I loved it. I'm just getting more into Contemporary Romance, normally I'm a dark girlie. And I have to say I'm loving FMCs like Sadie.
Especially when they portray us neurospicy types properly. When I first read that a character was neurospicy, I was scared it was going to be another savant over achiever genies with no real issues. But Sadie is a typical ADHD neurospicy that I'm here for.
Jared, Mr Dom, in the bedroom. I love the cinnamon roll type. I married one. He's the kind of man I just want to take home and keep. Now, he just has to take some more of that confidence he has in the bedroom and take it to work with him. He doesn't have to be dominant, just confident.
Over all though his arc is awesome. I think him and Sadie together are perfect, in and out of the bedroom. Their banter is perfect. Their chemistry is off the charts. Their love-hate friendship is kick-ass. I just love the way they are written together.
Together with the character arcs, plot lines, and sub-plots, the storylines come together to create “Sportsball Is For Lovers”. It's a fun, spicy read that will have you gasping and laughing through the book.
Everything is so nicely balanced, and the main characters don't overpower the secondary characters and their arcs. All the characters in this book are treated equally and like they are just as important as the next.
If you are looking for a neurospicy good time. Don't mind an FMC who is submissive in the bedroom and a boss everywhere else. An MMC who is reserved on the streets but a dom in the bedroom, then this is the book for you.
Tropes/Trigger Warnings Toxic Family, Fat-Shaming, Enemies To Lovers, Sports Adjacent (she’s a sports romance writer, he works for a hockey team)
Such a great book!! from the beginning there was spice, and Jared and Sadie were such a great mix together. I loved that Allie Lasky did a fantastic job representing illnesses that we have to live with, and despite the fact that Jared was healthy otherwise, he had one, and managed it very well. I loved how mental health was brought to light, and not shown as something entirely wrong, but being able to cope with it in this day.
So, Sadie and Jared meet up on a kink app, and despite the connection that they feel at that time, they know that this is a one time thing. Later though Sadie finds out that Jared is her best friend's brother. Things of course continue on as something that will only happen when their in the same place at the same time, but turn into more. The spice in this book is great, and the characters are even better, I loved this book so much, and can't wait to read more from Allie Lasky.
I wanted so much to love this book, and I did love the blurb and the idea of normal sized characters who came with a little extra padding around the waist to make them more believable than the usual Adonis like heroes with their chiselled jawline and six packs who would never leave the toilet seat up that fiction seems to favour. But I guess I must be more shallow than I thought, I’ve discovered I’m looking for escapism and I prefer my fictional characters to lean more towards the fantasy end of the spectrum rather than the factual end. As such I struggled to finish reading Sportsball is for Lovers mainly because I just didn’t care about Sadie and Jared except for thinking Jared could do a lot better. I did appreciate that this author did depict characters who showed it was possible for two people to be together and be happy without feeling that they needed to have children and that was through choice and not because of fertility issues. That not everyone feels that their life is incomplete if they don’t feel the need to procreate.
Allie Lasky is quickly becoming on of my fav to read authors! This is an awesome book and I loved the opportunity to learn about the challenges people who have ADHD and Type 2 Diabetes go through.
How the first chapter started out was definitely an eye catcher and caught my attention. *fans self, and wipes away the drool* Holy!! You know how sometimes your attention wonders while reading a book, well not this one. It kept me fully in the moment and I could not put it down. There were several intimate moments and I loved reading about the D/S dynamic when they were intimate and how they are equals everywhere else. <3
You might be thinkin there's no way the book can be this great, you are wrong. I highly recommend checking it out if you are at all curious or interested in ADHD, Type 2 Diabetes, D/S, queer romance and an awesome author who writes a very vivid novel.
She writes sports romance. He reports for a hockey team. Their one night together from the app was just supposed to be one night...
Sadie is a strong, independent female - until it comes to taking care of herself or being around her family. Insert Jared who is more than willing to take care of her, in more ways than one.
I absolutely love the representation in this book. I feel like there is something that everyone can relate to. Allie took time to heavily represent consent, safe relations, and boundaries for more than just sexual relationships. I adore the found family aspect of the book and that he fell first and harder for her. Overall, super adorable semi-spicy romance book that gave me the feel goods. Give me some more Jared!
This is the second book in this series and this is Jared and Sadie’s story. When Sadie plans an arranged hookup, she is horrified when her best friend’s brother, Jared walks into her hotel room. Jared is understanding and patient, and he is a sportscaster, while Sadie is strong and confident, and she is a sports romance writer. The sparks fly between these two, and Jared is prepared to take on the world to support and defend Sadie. This is a well written easy to read story which has family, friendships, emotions, humor, witty banter, enemies / lovers, undeniable chemistry, obsession, romance, and love, which leads to a spicy, entertaining, fun, and sweet addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
3.5 Stars. I really enjoyed Sportsball Is for Lovers by Allie Lasky. Allie wrote about such important topics in this book but still injected humour and light heartedness into the book. I really enjoyed reading the medical representations and different relationships encompassed in this book. I loved how it was shown that two people can be happy in a long term relationship without the need for marriage and babies. How family is what you choose and make of it not necessarily the one you’re born into. I loved the last chapter and what Sadie did for Yo-yo. I did have a bit of trouble with how Sadie sometimes spoke to Jared in the beginning, i love a good enemies to lovers trope but it just came off mean to me. I really did enjoy this read though and encourage others to give it a go.

This is my second Allie Lasky book and it ran into the same trouble as the first. The pacing of the relationship felt off, it got repetitive, and while great at representation, it came off as preachy and educational versus a natural vibe. There was also a LOT of side characters introduced that just convoluted the main story. I shouldn't have to remember a dozen other characters that are mentioned 1-3 times. I also didn't love the FMC's personality, and didn't think the OMG revelation moment was done justice. Like, why aren't they low key freaking out more? idk.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ I loved this book from the beginning! This book starts off steamy and I was here for it! Sadie and J met on a kink app and had amazing chemistry from the start. Since they lived in different states it was only a one time thing, until they met again through Sadies assistant who happens to be Js brother! After a few more hookups that were supposed to be the last time they started to want more! I loved how relatable all of these characters are! Allie Lasky did an amazing job writing about the mental health and disease representation. This was my first book by Allie and definitely will not be my last!!
Starts off with a bang 😍😉! I really enjoyed this read. Oddly enough, both characters possessed significant qualities that I do.. sort of. I also dance along the neurospicy spectrum, and I have diabetes, albeit type 1. Still, it was a level of connection to the story that I really enjoyed seeing.
I loved that despite how similar their views were on relationships, both Sadie and Jared took their own journey to get to the end. I enjoyed the spice. I laughed so much, and I LOVE the found family that exists in this book. Read this book! You will enjoy it!
‘bout time readers see more diversity by way of an ADHD FMC & a Type II diabetic MMC. And their Jewish cultural identity is as much of the story as their neuro and medical ones.
The author also offers a glimpse into the world of indie authors- the conventions, the public relations and the support system by way of friends and authors in their quest to share their bundles of creativity for profit.
Dialogue and storytelling flowed.

Such a cute story! This book starts off with some heat lmao I had to double check to make sure it was the beginning hahaha but it really sets the story up. Jared is so adorable and falls fast while Sadie is still a little confused. I will say Sadie is so funny and not even on purpose, I loved her so much! Both don’t want a relationship but want to be with each other and just seeing them go through it, is so cute!!
Engaging story and writing with really enjoyable characters. But even though it starts with a bang, it has quite a few fade to black moments. And even though they started out anonymous, I enjoyed that they had a connection neither was aware of. Jared is so supportive of Sadie and they communicated really well with each other. And the cover is super cute! Although it’s implied both characters are plus size, the illustrated cover doesn’t necessarily show that obviously, I feel.
First of all, I need to find me a Jared!! He is an amazing individual and the level of care he shows Sadie is phenomenal. Second of all, the inclusion in this book is wonderful. I love that it has lesbian, gay, non binary, and tons of other fascets of people represented. Lastly, the story was very well written and a super quick read. Thank you Allie for a fantastic book!
Well. That's one way to start a book ❤️🔥 Likable MCs, tho FMC came off a bit bitchy at times. MMC is a cinnamon roll dom, which sounds like an oxymoron lol.
It's got all the rep. You want disability rep- you got it- type 2 diabetes and ADHD You want queer rep- you got it- there's Ls, Gs and non binary. Also some straights. There's also Jewish rep. Mentions of surrogacy in a positive way
Another fantastic book from Allie Lasky. She knows how to engage you and keep you engaged from the beginning. This is a do not miss book. Be warned the fire starts on page 1.
I connected with so much in this book. It is so well written. I love the sports, how they initially meet, and the main character's outlook on end game relationships. Excellent read!
