Queen of Thorns was exceptional!
The tale continues between Don and Willow, and it was explosive with so many twists and turns, innuendos and chaos that it was hard to catch my breath. Donatello is still pushing the limits with all the mafia families and it filled me with anxiety as to how reckless and ruthless he is.
Ellen, Eli, and Vincenzo are still reeling from the tragedy in Ruthless King. And poor Mischa is just trying to hold it all together and get his family home.
Mice and Men is a spectacular series!

This author has an uncanny ability to create a scene that seems like it is really happening even though the likelihood of that happening is not commonplace in the real world. Or if it is, then real Mafia is depicted differently in the real world and it is not something that I have read about. This ability and her master wordsmith skills are part of what makes me fall in love with her stories.

There is a lot at play here. Things are being set in motion and there seemed to be a lot of players and motivations. I still am not sure who, technically who is friend and foe. It also is hard to understand Willow, especially, since she doesn't speak. It added a different dimension to the story. There are chapters from her point of view but I found that I missed the dialogue between the characters. The anticipation between Donatello and Willow was fire and I hope that in the next book, they finally act on it because I am jonesing for them to have a little steamy time. I am trying to be patient though because I can see that this is a story that definitely needed to be told and built upon to make the story have the oomph factor that is needed in a book like this.

I am very much looking forward to the next book to see where this goes next, and also tosee how Willow intends to play her requests.

With this author's writing, I always love how you have a sense of what's coming, but are usually surprised anyways. Willow is strong, not a helpless pawn despite outward appearances. She is encountering and coming to terms with her dark side. Despite their differences and her muteness, I love that Don can read her emotions. He is even more on the brink of madness and brimming with violence than in Ruthless King. I'm still not convinced on the reasons Willow/Safiya is attracted to him, but am interested to keep on going to see how it develops.

I really like the setup and intricacies of the crime syndicates described, and how they revolve around each other. Evgeni's perspective is an interesting addition. I like Willow despite her impulsiveness and naivete, and am extra curious how any of those will result in a HEA for she and Don. I'm primarily looking forward to continuing to watch her gain the upper hand, and look forward to just how this can possibly conclude favorably for all sides.

An explosive read!

This turbulent  read follows on from the shocking events in Ruthless King. Donatello Vianci is one of the most crazy characters this author has created to date and it is a wild, white- knuckle ride!

We witness Donatello descending ever further into madness, driven by a combination of visceral grief and guilt, and Willow is compelled to tread a fine line to save her own life and that of others.  I loved that by the end of the book it is clear to Donatello, the reader and Willow herself that she is far from a willing victim – she truly is the Queen of Thorns as the title suggests and is not a mere pawn.

The read is a deeply psychological one and I was swept into a maelstrom of violence and unpredictable emotions of Donatello Vianci, a tragic and mercurial figure. The connection between him and Willow goes way back and she feels inextricably tied to him, whilst fully cognisant of the danger he represents. Their chemistry is a constant throughout the novel and I enjoyed that Willow, despite Donatello's warnings, cannot resist pressing his buttons, challenging him to his breaking point.

I enjoyed meeting Misha again and am dying to find out more about Evgeni, whose voice the author introduces us to. The next instalment cannot come soon enough as I am itching to find out what happens next between Willow and Donatello and whether they will be each other’s destruction or salvation. Please note, a copy of this book was given to me by the author, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I very much enjoy the gripping world of mafia created by the author, with the intertwining relationship between those power and money-hungry families and the political chess game/war they play. The author surely knows how to keep the readers on edge with this aspect of the story with her superb writing and well-thought-out storylines.

Nonetheless the hero and heroine in this series are not my taste, rendering this series unenjoyable I do not mind violent men in mafia romance (Maxim!), but Donatello is so erratic and nephew-obsessed who I cannot emphasize with and cannot comprehend how anyone could be attracted to him. Willow Stepanova / Safiya Mangenello / Mouse is an utter disappointment. Given her harsh experiences early in her life, which is not so long ago as she is only 19, she seems to have forgotten all about that when she should never have. In the War of Roses series, it seems she would have grown to be a smart and strong lady who knows her place in the world she situates in. Yet, instead of becoming clever and resourceful for her adopted family, she is spoilt, reckless, stupid and irresponsible, putting extra burden on her adopted father.

I look forward to the third book because I care too much about Mischa Stepanov and Ellen, and their children.

I might be in the minority but I couldn't get into this story. I loved the War of the Roses series but I don't feel the same pull for this story as I did with that one. I do admire Willow's fierceness. But I felt that it was a mistake for her to take on Don by herself. Her actions have consequences and it is rippling around her and those connected to her. I can't seem to develop a likeness for Don. He is even more reckless and ruthless in this second book. The story is twisty and gritty. The past is still very much part of the characters and has a tight hold on them. I'm hoping to go back and try again to get into the story. I do want to enjoy it and get everything out of it so I will step away from the story before reading it again. I do encourage others to read it especially if they enjoy suspenseful tales with unpredictable plots.

While I really enjoyed the first book, this book was more difficult to read because it was more... boring. Honestly, I had so much fun reading the first book, but it took me way too long to finish this book. I skimmed the last seven or so chapters and called it quits at the end because it's not worth continuing. Once again, wasted potential. Please, Lana, get better beta readers because your stories have potential!

Two stars: one for the concept and one for Don's character change.

While reading this second book in the series, I couldn't help but Marvel at the skill Author Sky uses in conveying emotion in someone who doesn't speak. And in this part of the story, The mute Stepanova heir Willow is used as a pawn...back and forth. But what does SHE want?

"Whether due to his intent or mine, the distance between us lengthens, putting me well beyond his reach. Again, the urge to run rises up. I could always fight. Overpower him. The letter opener is still in my grasp. My pulse surges as I glance down, spotting the delicate strip of silver peeking between my fingers. It could be a useful weapon."

"“Your face…” His chest heaves as he flicks my chin with the pad of his thumb . I flinch, but he does it again, sloppily, scraping delicate flesh with his nail. And again, applying more and more pressure until I finally meet his gaze. His eyes flicker as if he’s reading my thoughts word for word. I’m that vulnerable to him."

Such absolute skill...Author Sky conveys the confusion Willow feels and the unfinished business between them. Author Sky ramps up the tension with Donatello in the middle of a wild, fearful thought process. His only family Vin is in a coma and he will do anything to protect him. He alternates between panic attack and unruly leader. Its fascinating.

"This Donatello does nothing to disguise who he is at his core. A tortured man. A bleeding man. An empty soul."

"Whatever sustains him now is something I recognize. I feel it too. Desperation. Despair. Hate . A need to rage against everything and everyone, feeding an internal flame. The hotter the fire, the easier it is to ignore the rest. The pain."

I loved how Author Sky made clear why Willow was so conflicted. She had a new name, a new family, but never felt like it was home despite her love for her adopted family. The Stepanov family was strong and feared, but Willow never understood why she was cast away by Donatello in the first place. The problem is Don is more of a madman at this point, dragging Willow from one place to another. Can anyone trust his moves? His motives? Is he still suicidal?

"Because in that moment… all I saw in those eyes was pity. Concern. As though she didn’t want me to die. Not out of sweet, innocent mercy, either. This life? It’s worse than any hell. Only someone especially cruel would force me to live it, and then watch me suffer."

If I had to choose, I would have left out the chapters from Evgeni's point of view. There's weren't bad by any means. I just would have wanted more Don, Willow and the famiglia. What they do, however, is add to the tension when he finds something unexpected.

"She drives me mad with those watchful little eyes. They strip me down to nothing— in them, I’m none of my past selves. Not the fearsome Il Mostro or the Butcher. Not Donatello, the family man. Not even the dutiful Don who cared for another man’s child out of what little kindness dwelled within his heart. To this woman, I’m just someone to hate, and there’s freedom in that. And damn, she does hate me. With every word, her lips go flatter, thinner. Her gaze turns cutting. She becomes an open book."

Its these kinds of paragraphs that give me chills. Don is so unpredictable, and uncontrollable. Don and Willow learn just how powerful guilt is. It pushes you to do things you might not normally do.

"He laughs, and this unsteady display of noise reveals his true feelings better than if he spoke them explicitly— he needs me unnerved. He needs me to fear him. It’s the only way he can remain in control."

So as the reader I'm left wondering...has Don been pushed far enough that he no longer wants peace? He keeps goading Willow about the power of being in charge. Don may be reeling from what Mischa did, but he's also colluding with very bad men. Organizing. Making plans. Or is it all a ruse? I found myself second guessing everyone! Don is almost hiding behind arrogance and anxious ridden paranoia. I can't wait to see how this saga ends. Its a masterpiece of chess, and Author Sky definitely knows where she's moving the pawns on the board.

This is book 2 in the Mice and Men series starting exactly where book 1 ended with a massive cliffhanger.
Donatella, an ex-con, who left the mafia world on his terms...never to return to its dark depth...his dreams shattered when the only person he had allowed to feel love for...his Nephew is in danger, he lost his remote remains of humanity....
He will go to any length for his vengeance...even embrace the girl who he betrayed in the past to hurt the man culprit in his eyes.

An exceptionally written book with characters to empathize with and a mind-blowing story line which keep on delivering blows after blows of surprise...
I could feel the trouble rising in the backdrop...the working of Donatello's mind and his anguish, his feeling of lost and the bound which exist between willow and Don...no matter how unwilling they are to witness it.
Totally inpredictable plot...I have read a lot and I emphasize A LOT of Mafia Romance...so not much is unheard for me in that troupe...but I am happy to say that I was totally left with a gaping mouth in this one.
Mischa has finally got a competitor to his level and this time his vulnerability is not hard hard miss when his family is on the line.
I loved the part that our heroine is not perfect woman but is flawed yet perfect for Don at the same time..she is strong-willed, brave and don't take shit from anyone...including Don.. which makes her superior to me...

Queen of Thorns is the second book of Mice and Men; after the way things ended with the first book, I was more than ready for this book, and Lana didn't disappoint.

This book gave us more of Donatello & Willow and their dynamic where there's something between them, but we can't still call it a relationship. Their history goes back many years; they have a twisted past together and not a much brighter present, so what will the future bring for them?

Willow might look fragile, but she's far from that. Willow finds herself in a crossfire she never asked for, but she will do whatever it takes to keep those she loves safe; the most logical thing will be for her to hate Donatello for what he did, but in some twisted way, she always finds herself protecting him. Albeit being mute, she doesn't need many words around Donatello, who can read her as no one else does, something that contributes even more to their twisted dynamic.

Donatello is even more on the brink of madness; he keeps pushing the limits with all the mafia families; he's growing more and more angry, full of grief and guilt. His need for revenge is clouding his judgement; war seems inevitable, Donatello thinks he has everything planned, he lays a new game, but Willow is determined to beat him at his own game.

I enjoyed getting glimpses of Misha throughout the story, and I'm so curious to learn more about the mysterious Evgeni; his perspective was an intriguing addition.

Donatello & Willow are so complex they left me wondering a couple of times. This book was intense, and all the suspense, twist and turns, kept me on edge till the last moment, filled with darkness, drama, and danger. I'm looking forward to the next book and how things will play out with them.

What a follow up to the first book! So insanely intense with all the plots and plans and revenge going on in the aftermath of the destruction set in motion by an unknown party. Danger and action-packed at every turn. I love the battering ram that is Don as he grapples to take over the famiglia and get Vin the help he needs. Boy, he comes alive in his passionate fury and dark memories. A plan forms that will crush his enemy, Mischa, and keep Willow by his side, of her own free will. This author does impassioned like no other. The rage oozed off the pages as Don and Willow play a dangerous game with each other and the forces that threaten everyone they love. Who’s the unknown force with a hidden agenda? So much mystery and intrigue. Plus there’s another game afoot with an old foe of the Willow’s parents steps into the light. Willow’s a terrific heroine and her disability is an interesting element in the story, one that the author makes work in a way that it’s a nonissue for the most part. There’s not any real romance in the story just a few charged moments between Don and Willow and some heat between a possible new couple in Briar and Evgeni. Can’t wait for that to develop. I’m just hoping the next story will have Don and Willow realizing their true feelings. The set up promises for an explosive next book as Don and Willow forge ahead with a new relationship that should bring them closer. I love this author’s twisted, inspired characters and a storyline that gives them full range to explore their madness. So good! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

Bloody mind game!
Queen picks up right where King left us
One completely loopy psycho (maybe two)
One frightened yet determined princess
A wee innocent bound in the boot
And two families torn apart and seeking blood

This takes a darker path than book one
Roaches are crawling out of the woodwork on every page
Once decent souls are turning to bloodshed in search of justice
Who is behind the acts that just may drive the two to war?

I don't want to give spoilers-
Trust me the slightest miswording could spoil something
There are so many secrets that unravel in this episode
Some left me reeling others drew tears from my eyes
Willow is about to come face to face with truths she has knowingly avoided as well as a betrayal that just may destroy her
I honestly fear she won't emerge the same "innocent" she was when this started (Not that being in Don's hands is rainbows and unicorns)
Then there is the heartache Mischa and his family have to face along with the consequences of his choices - the ones he keeps making (mad face here)!!
So much pain
So much hope

This is told from multiple characters pov
Which IMO only intensified the suspense while strengthening my connection to the characters and my white knuckle grip on my kindle

I need the finale
I need to know how this ends

Queen of Thorns was an emotional rollercoaster through and through... so, exactly what I signed up for.

It picks up right from the cliffhanger ending of the previous book without any hesitation. Each sentence of Queen of Thorns seems to propel you further to a terrifying end–it is exhilarating. Lana Sky's books are nearly unputdownable.

I think it was a great follow-up to the first book which really pulled me into this sinister world that Lana Sky has crafted even further. The development of Don and Mouse's characters is believable and gut-wrenching at the same time. In addition, the introduction and further development of secondary characters serve to effortlessly increase the tension and increase, as it is hinted that there is more going on underneath the surface.

Lana Sky's writing is always *chef's kiss* immaculate, however, I found that this second installation felt slightly incomplete. Despite this, this did not lessen my enjoyment of the book, nor did it lessen my ultimate anticipation for the next installment of this series.

Whether you're new to the series, or neck-deep, I would recommend this book. Lana Sky does a fantastic job.

Remember To BREATHE!!!
Intense with a side of heartpounding INTENSE dark drama that shoves you to the edge of your seat keeping me there held captive as the dark twisted words spin a phenomenal story that is so well written it feels and reads so darn real its hard to step away even for another stiff drink to calm my tattered nerves driven by eagerness and adrenaline that drives me from one page to the next making for raw blurry eyes that can't imput the words fast enough. This story has binding relentless suspense that keeps me on my toes and wild with hunger for more of Safiya/Mouse/Willow and Donatello's fate. It's dark, cruel, fierce, dangerous, violent, edgy, intense, exciting and addictive with twisted spellbinding suspense filled with angst.
A phenomenal series that already has me wanting to read this whole series again and I still need to read part three. It's flipping awesome. I love every dark violent word that had me gasping in frightening shock and repeatedly had me forgetting to breathe.

“She’s just a snake with the face of a ghost. Someone to crush. Someone to kill if it comes to that. She’s nothing more than a pawn.”

Filled with rage and guilt, Donatello has now given into the darkest part of his being and his victim? Willow Stepanova. The daughter of the man who has taken everything from him, including his sanity. With war seemingly inevitable, Donatello must now lay new cards on the table: a new game, new players, and new ways to own and conquer.

“I’ll play his game. And I’ll make him regret ever asking me to in the first place. I’ll become his prison. I’ll make his life a living hell. I’ll make him pay.”

Donatello isn’t the only one ready to play, Willow is ready to do what it takes to win, to conquer, to own. It’s all or nothing now and the chess pieces are ready to move.

Queen of Thorns is intense, dark, soul-wrenching and intoxicating. Just when we thought Donatello’s and Willow’s world couldn’t get more complicated, things take a turn for the worse. Book 2 of the Mice and Men series by Lana Sky, amazingly created and gut-wrenchingly beautiful.

This is the second book in this series, and it delves more into Donatello's mindset and oh boy, it's crazy. While Don is trying to reconcile from what horrible thing he did in his past, to what he must do in the future, it leads him to a choice that could leave him with everything or nothing, including his life.

On the other side of the coin is Willow, albeit being mute, she can convey so much more than language ever could with every touch, expressions, and move of her body, for one man only, Donatello. However, she only has one motive in mind, revenge and she is just getting started.

What I loved about this book as well is that it gets into the meat and potatoes of moves and counter moves in this dangerous game of two powerful families that will either unite the Vanicis and the Stepanovs or cause a war to end all wars! I seriously can't wait for the next book in this mafia series.

Lana Sky has again put together another fantastic series to add to her already growing list.

Well done!

Queen of Thorns is the second book in the Mice and Men series and/or trilogy, so YOU HAVE TO START WITH Ruthless King (Book 1) FIRST! Lana Sky is simply brilliant at weaving together such intense mafia romance with a kicker of darkness that I'm fully addicted, even when I'm upset about people along the way. See, Donatello has risen to such insane levels with his anger that I literally felt chills deep down like he was waging war in my neck of the woods. It feels like he's not in his right mind, and I'm not sure that it will get better because I NEVER EVER know which direction this author will go with any of her stories. Willow is something else herself, and it's not clear as to what she's going to do next, but I'm hoping it's crazy brutal since this is how their world rolls. The twists are loud f-bomb dropping moments with betrayal ruling the day leading to violence like you couldn't dream of. It all leads to another brutal cliffy & there's not a chance in hell that I'll be able to wait patiently. And so I'll just end with HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL BRAVE ENOUGH!

Donatello Vanici & Willow story will blow you away the games they play are dark twisted she's mute has her own agenda she'll get her revenge he wants his own revenge against Mischa Stepanova her adopted father they have past history.
Evgeni is one character I really like his loyalty to Willow is so great he tries to keep Mischa from doing something he'll regret there's a war brewing between the two families Vanici & Stepanova's who will survive so many secrets unravel you are sitting on the edge of your seat with this book.
I definitely recommend to get this TRILOGY brilliantly written so well worth the read I can't wait for the final book to see what Willow has planned & how this all turns out. Excellent writing by LANA SKY always a pleasure to read her books she never disappoints ever.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

Whoa 😮 This book just blew me away!! This is book 2, of the Mice and Men Series. You MUST read book 1, Ruthless King, first!!!! I thought Ruthless King set the bar very high, but the amazing Lana Sky said Nope!! Here’s Queen of Thorns!! Checkmate 🔥🔥🔥 You have twists, betrayal, violence, edge of your seat-page turning-never knowing what’s going to happen next!! Never knowing who to trust!! This book continues the story of Don and Willow. Your heart really breaks for Willow, but she may not be a fragile flower. Don is really struggling with his past and future, growing more and more angry. Both of these characters are fantastically fascinating, because they are both very complex. They constantly leave you guessing. This story just goes to show you how the actions of your past, can effect your present, and possibly your future. This book does end in a twist cliffhanger, that leaves you wanting SO MUCH MORE!!!! I’m on pins and needles waiting for book 3!!! I extremely very highly recommend this book/series!!!!!

This is the second book in this intoxicatingly intense series. You must read book one, Ruthless King first to get caught up on the story so far. Also, if you want to experience the original introduction to Willow/Mouse in The War Of The Roses Trilogy. It's not necessary, but I think it will create a richer experience for you. Filled with darkness, drama and danger, this read will have you perched on the edge of your seat and your nerves stretched to the breaking point. Don and Willow are complex (and in Willow's case very unique) characters that inspire strong feelings in the reader and each other. The twists, tension and turbulent emotions skillfully woven throughout the gripping storyline make a potent and addictive cocktail that I found impossible to resist and left me craving more. If you are a dark romance devotee this series is a must read. I'm electing to post a objective review.

Read Ruthless King 1st before you read this! There was a major cliffhanger and there is another 😱 Don is to me anti hero and he is causing chaos in the mafia world families. My heart always breaks when he thinks of his son Vin and the girl 'Safiya' he has tattooed on his skin in red he thought he lost...
Willow I love her soo much she is strong and she is mute which we learn in Ruthless King how this happened. She maybe valuable but she can stand up for herself. I love their relationship cause he can read her like a book and she not afraid of his monster!!

There are some many twist and turns this is a turn Mafia Romance. Who is truely your friend ? Who is truely you enemy? Ahhh 😍🔥😆 Action & suspense with some hot chemistry

This is book 2 in this saga if you haven't read book 1, Ruthless King, then read it immediately. I love Mafiya! And this book is full of them. This story gives us more insight into Donatello and Willow and their relationship or rather lack of relationship. Don is so violent, almost makes me believe he is on the brink of insanity with his anger. If only Willow could talk, as I read I am sitting here thinking come on say something, but she can't. What is her game plan? This is such an interesting book, I especially like Evgeni, head of security for Willow's family and his allegiance to finding Willow. Everybody is on edge the entire book. But the most intriguing is again Willow, what is she going to do? Heck, what are all of them going to do. Can't wait to see how this is going to turn out.

This is book two of the Mice and Men Series and is a great continuation of the Donatello (Don) and Willow. Their history goes back many years when he originally played with her as a child and then sold her. Mischa found her and adopted her. She has been silent (mute) her whole life. Two events set up the plot of this book. Mischa’s family is attacked and Doatello’s nephew, who he has raised, is critically injured. Don is insane with guilt and his want of vengeance. Willow, now an adult, walks in and saves his life. The characters are impeccable, but flawed. The plot is constant, but ever changing. If you enjoy dark Mafia romance this is both the book and author for you! Brilliant read!

This is the second book involving Willow and Donatello and their twisted past, present and perhaps even future. Donatello is heartbroken over his nephew being shot and is exacting his revenge on any and everyone who may be making it look like he wanted a war with Mischa. Willow is caught in the crossfire. She should hate want Don did to her when she was a child but can’t seem to stop protecting him, helping him. She doesn’t want to hurt Mischa and the family who took her in, is a way for them to move forward and discover who is behind everything? Entertaining read with loads of drama, suspense, steam and twists and turns. Great characters, intense chemistry and an entertaining story. I loved it!

Ms. Sky has done it again! She has tied me up in knots!

I found it hard to put this story down.

Amazing characters, especially Willow. But, Don is just as amazing! Such intensity!

Chess anyone? Ms. Sky is the master at deception. Leaving me wondering, what is her next move? What devious plan does she have for the mains and supporting characters?

It will be a tough wait to see what's next.

This series is so good, when it's done, I know I'll be reading it all again!

I am just loving this dark, mafia series!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Lana Sky is my go to author when I want a book that is dark, dangerous, and filled with mind games. Queen of Thorns is a PERFECT example of this. You cannot help but get swept up in the story that will leave you on the edge of your seat the entire time. There is a lot going on, the story is exciting and almost excruciating in some parts with wanting to know what is going to happen next.

The characters, Donatello and Willow, are relatable in a twisted way and so freaking strong. I cannot even begin to guess what will happen next or how things will play out with them. It is such a freaking good story and I am SO BEYOND HOOKED! I need the next book right now but will try to wait patiently for it!

PS: Thank you to Lana Sky for an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

This is the second book in this series by this author and OMG what an amazing gripping read. This is the continued story of the characters Don and Willow. This book has it all plenty of twists and turns, danger and intrigue. This book starts where book 1 finished on a cliff hanger. This is a mind blowing story around these characters. This is a fantastic addition to this amazing series and I can't wait to see where it goes.

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Queen of Thorns is the second installment in the Mice and Men Series.
I was very excited about reading this book especially after the way things ended in the first part (Ruthless King), I absolutely LOVED every thing about this book, the plot development, the character’s growth and the writing, it was all perfect.
This book felt like A deep dive into the psyche of the character’s and it brought so much more layers and complexity to them while still succeeding in making them feel more realistic and it also brought so much clarity and understanding behind their motives and actions.
The ending leaves you wanting more and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Anxiously Awaiting Book 3!

Book 2 of the series and it is not light and fluffy. Don seems to be spiraling and he is defiantly torn in regards to his feelings for Willow/Safiya but he will do anything to save Vin's life. Willow is doing what needs to be done to keep everyone safe. Mischa is loosing his shit while Ellen is still in the hospital and his daughter is "missing" even though he knows that she left of her own free will and that he acted on faulty intel. Briar is back and there is no telling what she is truly up to. Don and Safiya's past are a driving force in this series and I can not wait for book three.

I read a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
