As a child, I trusted no one. Then I found my best friends. They gave me a family and saved me from a life of abuse that still has me messed up.Then one of those best friends captured my heart.Lincoln, tough yet tender, a walking contradiction. He loves me too-flaws and all. He's the most patient man on the earth and understands my PTSD. What he doesn't understand is why our being intimate makes me feel "dirty". He's not one of the men who abused me, and he'd never hurt me. I know this. I believe it. Still, the "dirty" creeps in even though I know what we do together is anything but. He's here now and he's going to stay. It's time for me to talk to someone professionally.I need to shed my unhealthy past in order to have a healthy future with the man I love. If I don't, I just might lose the best thing that's ever happened to me-and there's not enough therapy in the world to get me through that.

Omg this book, there are no words.
This book was a long time coming and has a lot of people judging/making assumptions before reading.
Stop, just stop.
Personally I'm a non M/M reader but having read every single book by this author, I knew she would give Ethan and Linc the justice they deserve, no matter what hole they prefer. She (the author) did not disappoint!
Love is love, time to embrace that.
So much happens in this book, you'll laugh & cry, can't say much else without ruining anything so do yourself a favor and one click asap.
This book in my eyes is why this series will be top of the Rockstar genre.
Would give more stars if I could!

This book is a little bit of a mess to be honest. I found the writing to be stilted, and despite it being part of a frankly too long series, I wanted and needed background in how Ethan and Linc got together. I wanted the butterflies stage, the newness, the exciting part of first being together. We got none of that.
The timeline when taken into account of all the other books is all over the place, as are some of the details. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Dave one of Lucy’s favourite reporters in Rockstar 1? If not this specific one, a name change would be wise.
I also found it hard at times to distinguish POVs. Again, there’s several in this book, some of whom I felt aren’t needed and add to the messiness.
There’s also Spanish in parts which aren’t entirely explained and led me to skimming them. I have no problem with a second language, but only if it’s made clear what’s being said.
I love MM books, but unfortunately for me, this didn’t feel like a MM book. It felt like a normal MF book but with two guys. Isn’t that good? I hear you ask. It is, but MM usually, for me, have something special and this book didn’t. I also wasn’t keen that Cage mentioned fans would be disappointed both Ethan and Linc are gay. Seriously? What the hell?
All in all, I wanted to like this book. I hoped it would get the series back on track, but it just adds to the mess it’s grown into. And don’t get me started on the randomness of the Joey situation... a little lost for me.

Emotive & Full Of Love But Also Brutal & Bruising!!💘🙏🔥💔💥

What a story!😍
Ethan & Linc's love was stunningly beautiful.💜 it was full of all the feels you could ever want & their heat was scorching.🔥💘🔥 This storyline ran alongside much of what's happened in previous books but especially Xander & Tera's 2nd book and the short stories that followed then!👍

I was swept up in the CFD home & it's family of Rockstars & their partners. The two youngest girls , before Xan & Tera's baby's arrives, have the guys in equal parts awe & terror with their wiley ways - hilarity abounds around those situations!😂✨😎 The Mojo is strong in Kiki 😳😏 Seeing the FDB Families again was fantastic!!🌟 La Familigla are around, Of course. They are an integral part of the group's now. They're busy trying to keep threats at bay & everyone safe 🙏

This was a completely emotive read on many levels. There are betrayals, losses, new additions, bigotry & much more.😳😔 Sexy as sin Damian, struts his stuff & he's panty melting in the process.😉🔥There are many light hearted & outright hilarious moments throughout!!😄 I love this series & this book didn't disappoint in anyway!😍💥 I can't wait for book #17 🌟🎉

Ethan and Lincoln are in love, passionately so. But, Ethan knows he can't come out because rockstars can't be publicly gay, can they?

But, that isn't the only obstacle to their love. No, there other things going on. Ethan is still suffering from the aftermath of his heartbreaking childhood. Oh sure, he's got a family in his guys, and he's got the love of his best friend, but he needs professional help to deal with the pain in his mind. Can he do it before he loses Linc?

And once he does get some professional therapy, will other outside forces have their say in Linc and Ethan's love? Can a badass MMA fighter and a sexy rockstar be publicly in love if both of them happen to be men?

I have been reading Anne Mercier's Rockstar series since book 1, (Falling Down). It's had its ups and downs and some of them I've loved more than others, but I can safely say I've always been intrigued by Ethan, and I'm so glad I finally got to read his story. And what a story it is! There are rockstars, MMA fighters, friends who become much more, and Mafia action. Refrain is sexy, it tugs more than a little on the heartstrings, and it's pure entertainment, Falling Down style.

Ethan and Linc

Omg!! This book was definitely worth the wait!! I couldn’t put it down. I love how we got to see the strong relationship between Ethan and Linc and the unconditional love they had for each other. I love how the finally got a chance to focus on their relationship and make it even stronger. I also loved seeing the points of view the others had when it comes to Ethan and Linc because their lives are all so closely intertwined. Kiki and Kadi steal the show when they are in the scenes...those two girls give all of the guys a run for their money (literally at times). I’m so anxious to see how this story continues in the next installment. I loved the laughing, crying, and ultimate shock at the end.

So many emotions whilst reading this book. A book full of love and family. The subject of gay hate crimes, ridicules and child abuse approached and wrote about perfectly. Well done Anne Mercier #loveislove

I guess I will be skipping this one as well. I thought I would be able to get back to this series since I skipped Xander, but I don't do MM romance. Guess it's time to drop this author.

I received an ARC copy for my honest opinion.

Refrain is the love story of Ethan and Linc, that’s been a long time coming. The timeline of the book coincides with Xander Part 1 and 2. I’m glad I read the series again. Ethan has been my favorite besides Kennedy, the quite ones always get to me. Ethan has many issues from his childhood, that he trying to move forward, and I love how you can see his journey, trying to process the whole ordeal.
Linc, his partner is a tough MMA fighter, that loves hard and very protective of his family.

As always with Anne books, you see different POVs. I for one are thankful for those, so you can see what’s happening in the family. This book has answers to some situations that were left open in her past books, and setting up for the future also. There was a couple of things in this book, people had issues with. First that Cage said, “fans were disappointed that Linc and Ethan came out gay.” I’m not sure why that was a problem, as it still happens today and it’s very realistic. As you know with a very popular rapper came out this past month, if you listen to his interviews, you still have the trolls and judgmental people of the world. Also it happen with the characters in the book, Lucy and Jess. Women didn’t care that he was married or in love, they were still cruel, trying to hit him up. So why would it be different from a M/M relationship? The next thing was the Spanish in the book. I for one do not know a lick of Spanish, but it didn’t bother me, because now you felt how Xander felt, which was comical to me.

I told you in my last review I had theories, and I’m so glad I was wrong, but there are still more books to come so...🤔

I’m looking forward to the next books. I’m oh so close to Kennedy. I can’t wait.

Absolutely Brilliant

I was pulled into this story from the beginning and stayed there until I had finished every single word that had been written. All the time I had my mini movie playing in my head.
There are surprises throughout the story, some are large and some are small, some you will see coming where as with others you won't. But each and everyone holds equal importance within the story and adds to your enjoyment of the book
I went on an emotional rollercoaster ride with this book, I found myself crying at place, because I was so happy for the characters. I felt each and every emotion that the characters went through. I did find myself holding my breath while reading certain parts, I know i cried way more than any character in this book. But thats nothing new.
With each and every book in this series i have always felt as if I was right there with the character and I felt that way with this book.
I have to admit this is one of my top favourite Rockstar series.
Anne Mercier has done herself, her characters and her readers an exceptional book, as far as i am concerned, this story is one of my favourites, I love both of the main male characters in this book, I feel as though I know them so well. I actually feel as if I am part of the family the more I read.
I have to be honest and say that this is a genre that I don't normally read, but thanks to this book, I know I will read more books in this genre in the future.

Holy smokes with this book everything! If you have been following the Rockstar series by Anne Mercier, then wait until you get your hands on this one. Refrain is book nine, but if you read all the little snippets/novellas/Christmas extras then it’s book sixteen. You can read it as a standalone but you might get lost in the storyline and it is so worth it to start this series from the beginning.

We are up to Ethan and Linc story and yes, it’s an M/M story, and so good. It definitely tops the charts. In this book, we have a chance to reunite with our favorites in this dual point of view story. As the ending of this series is getting closer, there is a loose end that is tied. I can't believe what the author did to have that come about.

There is a gamut of feels in this book from laughing out loud moments, to a bit of anger and love. This a story that has family, mafia, rockstars and MMA fights. I had to close my eyes at that last one because I didn’t want to read those moments.

One of my absolute favorite lines is:

"It's fierce, it's all-consuming, and it's forever"

swoon swoon swoon, I love that line!!!

I absolutely love this series and I can't wait for the next installment because the ending just killed me. Send the bat signal out, we need a Batman!!!

There was a lot going on in this one and not just with Linc and Ethan, but since this book was mainly about their relationship we'll start there.

I really liked that both of them were secure in their relationship that they were ok with going public and I loved that they didn't do any big reveal, just lived their lives doing normal things. It was great how the rest of the gang reacted, like finally, of course you guys are a couple, who cares, pass the dinner dish. No big deal at all. Sadly things did become a big deal most due to the hate out there in the world that was directed at these two. I hated that people couldn't be happy that they found love, but glad that their inner circle got it. I was surprised and not at the same time, at what happened and the aftermath. I think the choices that Linc and Ethan made after were good ones for them.

Now for the rest of the crew. I love how everyone is scared of Kiki and how she knows this and uses it to her advantage. She is a she-devil for sure! Right behind her is Kadi, with all of her questions she keeps the adults on their toes. Xander and Sera and their hijinxs had me laughing, loved their batman ways! And Xander, again because Xander, loved his freak out when Tera started labor, loved that everyone had to pick up the slack.

Now the ending to this one bad in so many ways. There will be big ripples to come, it will be interesting to see how they all react.

The Rockstar Series just became even more dynamic than any other has been before. Refrain is in the same timeline as A Very Xander Christmas 3 and Xander: part 2. We caught glimpses of Ethan and Linc, but now we get them full force.

Ethan is the quiet one that always had a sense of vulnerability surrounding him.
Linc is the fighter that is always strong for everyone else.

When these two are finally able to live and be together, nothing will hold them back. But, that doesn’t mean it will be easy.

Refrain is an amazingly, dynamic novel. We get multiple POVs while maintaining that this is indeed Ethan and Linc’s story. There is some back story but honestly with how these two are together, you can feel the love, acceptance and strength pouring out of the pages without getting into the specifics.

There is so much natural flow throughout the story. Ethan and Linc’s emotions are so raw and real that at times they will break your heart. But, for every breaking moment there is one full of laughter and fun that is typical of our Rockstars.

There is no turning back once Ethan and Linc step out and how things play out will leave you wondering what in the world is happening and how is everything going to turn out. Be prepared, Anne is on a mission to let the characters speak their piece and this story will shake you to the core!

🎸*♡*🎸 I love this Rockstar family 🎸*♡*🎸

How great it was to catch up with La Famiglia again! For them all, it is family first and family is everything.

I have previously re-read every book in this series, but it has been a while, so the grey matter needed a little jog to remember every family member. When you’re this far into the series, there are no introductions, so do yourself a favour and start from the beginning. Yep, there are a few books, so pace yourself and you won’t be sorry.

This time, it is Ethan and Lincoln’s story, and I have to admit to not reading a lot of M/M. I adored the love and emotions between them and this has to be one of the more deeply written relationships that I’ve read and Ms Mercier knocked it out of the park, it was that good. I could go on all day about how beautiful their relationship was, and the typical way that the entire family had not only their backs, but each others.

Refrain is beautifully rounded out because we also get a chance to catch up with other family members in all their idiosyncrasies and foibles. To see grown men quake hilariously in the presence of a small person is just one of the witty ways that Anne Mercier brings together all sides of family life and occasions. Good and bad.

And then there is the bad.

Always, always a guaranteed great read from this author so it’s an easy 5 Stars from me!

Y’all 👏🏼 ain’t 👏🏼 ready 👏🏼 for 👏🏼 this 👏🏼
Without question my favorite book in the series now. There’s so many layers to this and I feel like it’s really setting the tone for the way the other books are going to play out. We FINALLY get to see Linc and Ethan get their HEA! ♥️ Of course it couldn’t come without it challenges. It was heart breaking to see some of their struggles and situations play out but their love for one another and the love and support they received from the BFD crew AND La Famiglia was incredible.
Throughout Refrain we get multiple POVs, not just Ethan and Linc. Which I loved. It’s always fun getting to see certain scenes and situations through specific characters eyes. It’s also a great way to get more from our series favorites without taking too much away from the main characters.
But the thing that I enjoyed most about this book was the increased presence of the Russo familia and their mafia storyline. It’s always just been there simmering under the surface of this series but by the end of Refrain it is very clear that the Russo familia/mafia is going to be playing a much larger role as the series continues. I for one am ridiculously excited to see this happen. I can’t wait to see which direction Anne takes it. I know it’s going to be intense, emotional and all kinds of crazy.

I've been waiting (along with many others) for the latest entry to Anne Mercier's Rockstar lineup and let me just say.... I. Am. Not. Disappointed. This will contain no spoilers, but it's stated up front (and you can tell by the cover), that this is an M/M romance. It's not for everyone and I'm sure this was a difficult subject to write. It is the author's first foray into this genre. That being said, if you read enough, you know the characters decide how their story will be written.

A lot of loose ends are tied up in this book, so you do need to read the rest of the books first for this to make any sense at all. Once again, the author delves into topics that many don't like to discuss, but for many, they find these books cathartic.

And while she's tying up these loose ends, she's adding some new ones. The author's note at the beginning warns that this book is not all happiness. As I was reading, I kept waiting for the shoe to fall. For that one thing to happen. And when it did, it was not at all what I was expecting.

Bravo Anne!!! I cannot wait to for the last two main books and one last Xander novella in this amazing series. Anne Mercier got me hooked on Avenged Sevenfold and independent authors and I thank her for that.

Refrain by Anne Mercier
Reviewer: Chelsea
Rating: 4.5 stars!!!

This book was highly anticipated by me for months!! I found Anne Mercier about a year ago so when I got the end of the last book published for this series at the time I was all about the next one. It took a while to get here but I think it was worth the wait!

This is Ethan and Linc’s story. It’s all about the message love is love. Ethan and Linc love each other but they haven’t revealed that to their family, that changes in this book and I loved the families response!

This follows these two amazing men as they deal with the public back lash after publicly coming out. It touches on the very real aspects of hate crimes and it show cases that this band family is what all families should be like!

I loved this book and was so sad to see it end! That’s the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars for me. The ending worked as the drama from it will be dealt with in the next book but I also feel like Linc and Ethan needed a better ending. I don’t want to just go on the next one without them getting more of a resolution. I’m hopeful that the next books will have their POV in them a little so we get more of their HEA!

Great book and I would 100% recommend!!

HOLY SMOKE AND A PANCAKE!!!

Well... All I can say it was well worth the wait! Anne knocks it out of the park and once again leaves us wanting more!

While I know M/M might not be everyone's cup of tea you don't see that here. All you see is two people who love each other. Gender doesn't even register at lease it didn't for me. You cant help but root for Linc and Ethan and be a little envious of the love that they share and the love and support of all those around them. Honestly I wouldnt let that keep you from reading and catching up with our favorite Rockstars.

We also get to hear from our favorites and see a little more of some of the supporting characters that again make you want more of them.

Fair warning!! There will be some tears shed. Some out of happiness. Some out of anger. Some out of sadness. But man does Anne make it worth the ride.

I for sure can't wait for the next book in the series to come out because while some questions were answered there were others that were left wide open. Hate to be those people that mess with the Russos and I would hate to be someone that missed out on such a wonderful love story!! Thank you Anne!!

I’m still processing everything that happened in Refrain.... so Holy Moly! First off, this is a M/M Rockstar Romance. Yeah yeah yeah, we know some people don’t like that.... oh well! For the series, this book must be read to understand what’s going on, Refrain is a complex book, mainly because to me, it shows the hard reality of life, but also, the beauty of love in all its forms. You have friendships, relationships, and family.
This book is the present story of Ethan and Linc. How they come together and make their relationship public. Now there isn’t much “jumping in the past” type of events in this story to tell the backstory of these two, but You can get the idea of what going on. They have to go through some hard times, to finally come full circle, and be happy. You also get to see some POV from other characters... which I’m glad to see. The family, or Famiglia, is holding strong. I love each of these characters, and love seeing them grow.
I do recommend Refrain to read. It’s a book that gets you in the feels. You want to laugh, cry, rage, and many other emotions. Looking forward to reading more. Good job Anne Mercier.

Oh my goodness.....I could not put this down! Love is love, and it is an amazingly well written example to prove it! Lincoln and Ethan's story is a love story of all love stories! It might not be your "normal" relationship, but then again, what is normal these days anyways? Their story is an example how you can overcome a tragic and unfair past with the help of a loving partner and family that you can trust with all of your heart. Lincoln and Ethan both have their own skeletons in their closets but they don't let that hold them back from being with each other. They help each other to work through their demons and skeletons, and come out on the other side with a better understanding of what their love means to each other. This book took me through all of the feels and it kept me guessing from the minute I started it.

I love this book as I love all the others in the Rockstar series. I’ve missed them. That being said, I felt like there was maybe too much character jumping. At this point there are a lot of characters to keep up with, and a lot of die hard readers of this series want more of all of them, but I felt like there could have been a little more pulp to the central characters story. All the others were told from the two central characters perspectives exclusively and this book had a lot of storylines intertwining, sometimes to the point it was overwhelming. But, again, I understand the difficulty for Anne in juggling all the characters we love so much and always want to hear more from. I do love it but it’s not my favorite of the series. And to anyone wondering or scoffing it had NOTHING to do with the M/M romance. #LoveIsLove

This is my second M/M book and my first had no sex in it. I didn’t know if Anne was going to stay true to herself and give us all the sexiness she usually has in her books. If she did was I going to be ready for that. Am a true believer to love whoever you want I don’t care but I’ve also don’t see it in my day to day life. I have to say wow! Yes she stay true to her self and gave us all the sexiness we love . But the emotional out of this world love we all want in a romance she gave it to us in spades. I cried, laughed and hurt with them. I won’t even get into what else she did in this book because I just can’t deal. Ethan and Linc’s love story is just as wonderful as Xander and Tera and I never thought I would say that. No matter what you believe please read this book it could heal your soul because love is love.

OMG! If you are a fan of Anne Mercier and have read Refrain then you know exactly what I am talking about. The 16th book in the series goes a little off typical because it is a M/M romance and it ends with a cliffhangar. Neither of these things take away from the awesomeness of this book. Linc, an MMA fighter and Ethan, bass player for Falling Down, have known each other almost their whole lives. Now they are finally in the same city and can make their relationship public. They fight against demons from Ethan's past and narrow minded opinions of others as they try to live their very public lives. Throw in the members of Falling Down and Blush, la Famiglia problems and one she devil toddler and you have a book you won't put down.

Refrain by Anne Mercier is the M/M love story of Ethan and Linc. This book is in the timeline that Xander Part 1 & 2 is in. Ethan is the bass player for Falling Down ; he is such a complex character- he's got this background that before this book, was a mystery but now the reader finds out what shaped him into who he is today while Linc is a fighter whose ready to fight.. in more ways than one.
This was full of feels, drama, angst, heartache, anger, pain, despair, hope, sizzle, twists, forbidden love, passion, excitement and love. This book ends on a cliffhanger...I liked the main characters and the secondary characters in the book. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster

I love this series so much. Refrain is full of the feels. It's more than an M/M book. That's just a little tiny smidgeon of this book.
There is so many things going on. Loose ends are tied up and its heading more into the mafia side of the Rockstars.
So many surprises and appearances by the Familia we all know and Love. Anne did an excellent job portraying Ethan and Lincs love and it's so sweet how they do exactly that. LOVE.
There are some super wth moments you'll get to meet someone brand new ❤
Such a great read and I'm oh so ready for MY Trace!! He's all mine! Anne said so!
That ending though gahhhh

This is the 16th book in this phenomenal series, and Ethan and Linc’s story. Linc is a tough MMA fighter and Ethan the rock star, but the love they have for each other is unique and genuine. These two have many obstacles to overcome along the way, as well as heartbreaking pasts and fears. It is great to catch up with the other characters. This is a beautifully written story which is fun, humorous, emotional, entertaining, and filled with love. I cannot wait to read more in this awesome series, especially after that unexpected ending. I highly recommend this gifted authors’ work for all.

Love is love

I have been hanging out for these two, and it didn't disappoint. I loved that the foundation of their terms so strong. The fact that nothing shakes that foundation is amazing, yes There is outside problems but it doesn't affect the love they share. Ethan working through is issues with a therapist and actually communicating was nice to see. So many books glance over that men have troubles that may need more help too. Seeing the rest of the family and how everything is going was great.
There were twists and turns and the ending leaves us hanging for what's next.

I love this series.

Let me start by saying, I enjoyed this book. I love the Rockstar series, but this wasn’t my favorite installment. I know Anne couldn’t go into Ethan and Lincs history as much as she did with Tera and Xan, but I would’ve liked a few flashback memories from their POV. I wanted to know more about Linc as well. But, with that being said, the love between them is obvious, and I’m glad they finally put themselves and their happiness first. The ending was insane, a cliffhanger, and I am so excited for Melody and Strings!

Speechless, absolutely speechless

After finishing Refrain all I can say (or not say) is I was NOT expecting that ending! Kudos to you Anne for writing such an amazing story on such a hard topic and for portraying such a loving and supportive family!!!! Can’t wait to see what’s next for Russo Famiglia!!

PS - thank you for not making the details of their pasts as harsh as Tera’s. Was fully expecting that and waiting with baited breathe and a box of tissues. That having been said there is nothing easy or simple about what you did have in Ethan’s or Lincoln’s pasts.
