Outside a glittering party, I saw a man in the dark. I didn’t know then that he was an assassin. A hit man. A mercenary. Ronan radiated danger and beauty. Mercy and mystery.
I wanted him, but I was already promised to another man. Ronan might be the one who murdered him. But two warring families want my blood. I don’t know where to turn.
In a mad world of luxury and secrets, he’s the only one I can trust.

- Reviewed in Canada on November 10, 2021Verified PurchaseOh my goooddddddd seriously, this series!!! I won’t say just this book because I’ve read all three and I have to say it’s no wonder the first one is called Ruined because that’s what it does. Freaking wrecks you inside and then goes further and wrecks you for all other books. The book hangover after this one was intense. I started it to cure myself of an Amelia Wilde/Leo Morelli book hangover and wow. Just wow. I just lost like 6 hours of my life in a good way reading these. Couldn’t put them down. So much love.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…
Characters: Ronan and Poppy are the main characters of this latest instalment in the world of Constantines and Morellis. Poppy was orphaned in her late teens and forced to take up custody of her sister and her father’s debts. She was not going to be able to make it on her own so Caroline Constantine found her a husband who would be able to financially help Poppy. All he has done though is trap her in a loveless abusive marriage. Ronan works for Caroline as a bodyguard/fixer/jack-of-all-trades in the mafioso world. The Irish immigrant was emotionally and physically abused before he escaped for America with Caroline’s help. Caroline actually plays a huge role in this story as the helper and the refugee for many characters.
Pacing: The story opens with the night Poppy and Ronan first meet and after a brief flirtation we fast forward two years. Two years into Poppy’s marriage and Ronan waltzes back into her life. The encounter she had the night of her engagement party had never left her. There were twists and intrigues throughout the story that just kept me reading. This is definitely a satisfying quick read.
Setting: Bishop’s landing is the center of the Constantine universe but I really feel as if it did not get to be there that much in previous books in the universe. Yet in this story Bishop’s landing is its own character, it is the only home Poppy has ever know really. So even when she has the opportunity to venture away from it more she feels reluctant to do so and still feels a pull to remain in place.
Romance: Poppy and Ronan’s flirtation at her engagement party should have been nothing more than that, a fleeting moment of intrigue. Two years later neither of them have forgotten about that night. Two years have passed with Ronan alone and Poppy trapped in a loveless abusive marriage. This story represents a chance for them to be together despite the odds and despite everything that tells them they shouldn’t. These two have electric chemistry, even just their normal convos drip with sexual tension. This is only the first book so now HEA in sight yet but by god am I ever rooting for these two.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 1, 2021Verified PurchaseOur h is a young, naive girl forced into a bad marriage due to her fathers actions and her sisters mental health.
I’m not sure how I stumbled into this book, but I found it in my library and after struggling to start other books, decided to dive in.
Throughout this book it was clear that a cliffhanger was heading my way but the storyline was interesting and dark enough to hold my attention, however I didn’t realize that these books weren’t on KU and so I’m sad that I won’t get to continue this story for a little while.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 7, 2021Stolen Hearts was a fantastic start to the Hearts Trilogy. I enjoyed every single book I've read set in the Midnight Dynasty world and this story was a right blend of mysterious, emotional and erotic!
The main protagonists, Poppy and Ronan, are such opposites but there's an undeniable connection that forges right away between them. Poppy is light and naivete, while Ronan is darkness and aloofness. In their own way, they're both broken by life and their struggles which certainly help them create this special bond.
Poppy knows that the man is dangerous, but she grows courage and confidence in his presence. I enjoyed how she blooms into a bolder person throughout the story. Ronan knows that her soul is too pure for him, but his need to protect her is stronger than anything. This hero is cold at times and a mystery that I appreciated discovering more about.
The intrigue of this book was alluring with a few surprizing events that made the pursuit of my read even more gripping. The feud between the Constantines and Morellis is at the center of these twists and promises an exhilirating journey for the last two books!
M. O'Keefe was a new to me author and I really liked her writing, so I'll gladly read more of her books in the future. I'm more than excited about Broken Hearts, the next book in the trilogy! With that huge cliffhanger, I just need answers ASAP!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 13, 2021Lately I’ve been really into books that had deadly, mysterious and cold anti-heroes, fierce and feisty heroines, and dark, mysterious, thriller-esk romances and this one has them all! I loved so many things about this book and the main two characters. Stolen Hearts is suspenseful, mysterious, steamy, addictive, will leave you at the edge of your seat, captivated and overall amazing. The heroine, Poppy, does have the tragic and dark past that many women have in books like these, but what’s different about this and what I love, is that she uses it to be a strong, determined, fierce queen. Ronan, the anti-hero, is her dark, dangerous, secretive, perfect match. I’ve read and loved many anti-heroes last year and Ronan is the best combination of both, all of the steam, tension and frustration. I loved them and their story so much, I need to know what happens next. Stolen Hearts was intense, tension-filled, mystery thriller, steamy, read until three in the morning perfection, and I highly recommend it, definitely five stars.

Stolen Hearts is the first book in the Hearts Trilogy, which is part of the Midnight Dynasty universe, where we will get to meet again the Constantine and Morelli families.
This series tells the story of Ronan, a man hired by Coraline Constantine, and Poppy, which is a kind of niece to Coraline, but not by blood but through family friendship.
Poppy and Ronan first met at a Constantine party right on the night that Poppy's marriage was announced.
The plot is following Poppy's life and also Ronan is following her, even though there is not much from his point of view, the story being told only from Poppy's POV. She finds herself in a predicament after her husband's death, and is hard for her to escape her thoughts and learning's from her toxic marriage and even harder to trust people and even herself, but there were glimpses of how strong she can be, but in the end she is just a pawn in the bigger world of Constantine's. This is my feeling, but don't have any clue at the moment which might be the end story. But it's interesting and kept me connected and wanting more.
This book ends on a cliffhanger, so I can't wait to read the second book, because to be sincere I am drawn to Poppy's and Ronan story and interaction. Ronan appears as a calculated and cold guy, and I can't wait to get to know him better and see how he will take care of Poppy. And Coraline, I might start to hate her, I mean I already don't like her too much, she seems as a scheming woman, but I shall see what's her role in the whole story plot, I might end up to like her again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy **** - what a book: heart in my throat, tears in my eyes
Verified PurchaseI got to the end of this book and thought holy **** I don’t usually like books that end on a cliff hanger but all three books are available so I decided to give this one due consideration given it’s a book by M. o’Keefe (a truly outstanding author). It’s a heart wrenching novel. It made me smile, made me cry and at the end I was left on the edge of my seat. It’s late, but I HAVE to start reading the next one now. How it only has 4 stars I don’t know. I’d give it 6 stars out of five. The only way to make it better would have been to add in some dual POV.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing romantic suspense novel
Verified PurchaseAn amazing Romantic Suspense novel
20 year old Poppy is married off to a
Man much older than herself in order to financially support her sister with mental health issues. On the night of her Engagement she meets a man (a morally grey man) and with just a conversation he ignites something inside her. 2 years pass .... you’ll have to read it to find out what happens!
Warning it does end on a cliff hanger - but don’t worry book 2 is already out!
Trigger Warnings: domestic abuse, suicide, murder and mental health issues

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to the series
Verified PurchaseRuined is the first book in the Dark Hearts series which is set in the Midnight Dynasty World. I struggled to get into the story to begin with but it soon became hard to put down. There are so many twists and turns to the story that I don't know who to trust or who is telling the truth. All I know is that I'm starting on book 2 straight away.
