Sin With Me (Original Sin Book 1) Kindle Edition
***
Two broken people in a city fueled by sin.
Maddie Clayton isn’t looking to be saved. She knows the only person you can count on is yourself. Her moral compass might not point true North these days—but at least she’s still standing.
The Military taught Tyler Bell about loyalty. Being there for your brothers is the only thing that matters—but when it mattered most, he wasn’t.
She’s got a ticket straight to Hell. He’s already been there and back.
She needs to win. He just needs to stop fighting.
Some sins scar your soul so deeply, you'll never be the same.
But this Devil in disguise might just be the angel he needs to forgive himself.

Johnathan McClain is an award winning actor, screenwriter, novelist and audiobook narrator who did not set out to have such a diverse set of careers but has embraced life’s unpredictabilities.
As an actor, his extensive resumé includes a notable turn as Megan Draper's agent, Alan Silver, on the final season of AMC's critically acclaimed drama Mad Men as well as appearing as the lead of the TV Land comedy series, Retired at 35, starring alongside late Hollywood icons George Segal and Jessica Walter, amongst dozens of other TV series, films, and plays.
As a writer and producer, Johnathan's feature film debut, The Outfit, co-written with Oscar winner Graham Moore and starring Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Dylan O’Brien, and Johnny Flynn, was produced by FilmNation and distributed internationally by Focus Features in the spring of 2022.
In the fall of 2024 Podium Audio, one of the world’s leading publishers of science fiction and fantasy, will release the debut novel in the Meet Your Maker series, a pentalogy of high fantasy novels which Johnathan is co-authoring with bestelling fantasy writer Seth McDuffee and for which he will also be narrating the audiobooks.
As an audiobook narrator, Johnathan has recorded approximately 200 titles ranging from sci-fi, to romance, to non-fiction, to fantasy, to LitRPG, and everything in between. In the words of Ryan Rimmel, author of the Audible bestselling Noobtown series, “Johnathan can do anything.” He is the recipient of multiple Audiofile Earphone Awards, SOVAS nominations, and an Audie for his narration of Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff’s #1 NY Times bestselling sci-fi novel, Illuminae, which won the Audie Award for audiobook of the year for multi-voiced narration in 2016.
His narration of Illuminae also resulted in Johnathan going on to become collaborators with Amie Kaufman as narrator for 6 more of her novels and as the co-writer of a screenplay on which the two are currently hard at work.

- Reviewed in Australia on 5 June 2023Verified PurchaseI’d usually avoid a novel with internal monologue, but Tyler’s ptsd and his head space, this was how he survived each day. Loved his character and execution of his trauma, along with the limited social interaction.
The witty banter with Maddie, interspersed with two sad stories, was easy to read and it kept me turning pages. Did I pick up hints where it was going? Sure. It’s still a very different read.
I loved the male POV. It was refreshing after so many soft male interpretations recently.
Cliffhanger, meaning I’m reading book two immediately.

At first I struggled to settle in with the writing style in which this story is written. But that's the thing that makes this book a great read, the diversity and creativity of the main characters. It's in first POV and told by both the main characters, Tyler Morgan and Maddie Clayton. They are both struggling with the past and trying to come to terms with just how their lives turned out from the choices that they made.
Tyler, rich as sin, smart mouthed (but boy does he know how to use his mouth) and thinks he knows best. I wasn't sure if I liked him in the beginning but with is wacky one liners and inner thoughts he borrowed deep into my heart and stayed there.
Maddie, sweet and just a lost and lonely soul who is struggling daily just to make ends meet. I loved watching her character evolve and bloom into the sinful sultress that she finally became.
The chemistry/sex is off the charts and it just adds to the fantastic story. Normally I just skim over the sex but with Tyler's actions my eyes were glued to the pages. So, so, so HOT.
Julie and Johnathan's collaboration is amazing, the storyline flows and is seamless. Thank god we don't have to wait to long for the next instalment of what's beginning to become a fantastic series.
- Reviewed in Australia on 9 March 2018Verified PurchaseI've been eagerly awaiting this collaboration by JAHuss and Jonathan McClain and it doesn't disappoint. It's a bit of a wild ride, unsurprisingly, and totally awesome. The two writers mesh together seamlessly and have created a work of art that is highly entertaining and original. And wicked sexy. (It's a good thing my car is sound proof. Yes, I got the audiobook as well as the ebook).
The only thing I didn't love was the cliff hanger ending. But at least it's only a few weeks until book 2. I can't wait for the next installment. This is a partnership that's pure genius.
- Reviewed in Australia on 2 November 2018Verified PurchaseHell Yess!!! Ok so I waited a while to read this series because I like to binge read a series and so I need it all to be completely released for that and 2 I just knew this series would be an epic bingeworthy series.
Huss & McClain knocked it out of the park with this one. I love these characters so much. The audio narration is Brilliant. I am jumping right into book 2
- Reviewed in Australia on 31 May 2018Verified PurchaseI have loved everything that j a Huss has written but unfortunately this one fell way short. There were so many parts of it that I couldn't get my head around and so completely confusing.
I love in a book when the characters have conversations but in this one there was so much internal dialogue. It just lost my interest. But this is only just one opinion
- Reviewed in Australia on 21 May 2018Verified PurchaseThis has been one of the best books I have read I loved I couldn’t put it down I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series
- Reviewed in Australia on 8 March 2018Verified PurchaseIt’s like reading a romantic cyclone that you never want to end. So many push and pull moments that keep you working around.
Can’t wait for book 2.
- Reviewed in Australia on 6 March 2018Get ready people J.A Huss & Johnathan McClain are collaborating to bring us Original Sin series.
This is book one, you meet Tyler and Maddie two emotionally damaged people.
The emotional struggle for Tyler is real, he fights his demons daily just to make it to the next day. As for Maddie, she has her own demons to slay, but let me tell you something.
While they fight their demons, their inner dialogue will have you LOL. Tyler is one very funny dude, regardless of his inner turmoil. So in a nut shell you will get suspense, drama and some outstanding f***ry, LOL.
And fyi: Tad Branson & Ava Erickson are narrating the audiobook series. And I for one, can`t wait to listen to this and the rest of the series.
And I`ll give you all a heads up, this does end with a cliffy but do not fear, the next book will release within 2 weeks of this release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a new series!
Verified PurchaseI love JA Huss's writing and I was intrigued as to how this would turn out as a collaboration with Jonathan McClain- I loved it! The 2 main characters each have issues. And they are stuck - not really moving on, just existing. Then they have a chance meeting.
I couldn't put this down. I was completely drawn into their world in Sin City. The characters are well written. There's a bit of humour, and heat, and drama. You're left rooting for Tyler and Maddie, hoping they can get their lives back on track, but wondering just how? And the ending? I need the next book now!
This is a great start to what looks to be an amazing series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very emotional
Verified Purchase3.5
Sin With Me is such a complicated book to rate and review. There are aspects of it that I absolutely lived and some others that didn't work that well for me.
At the same time, the aspects I struggled with make so.muvh sense now that I reached the end. So much so, that I could tell the execution was brilliant.
It's my first book by this duo of authors. I've been reading Huss for years, amd she is one of my favorite authors ever. So reading collaborative writing scared me a bit. That being said, Huss' inimitable touch was palpable, enhanced by McClain's. Sarcasm and masculine writing voice, creating an enticing tone. The LV atmosphere they depicted, dark, ruthless, jaded, and crooked gripped me. I felt immersed into a living nightmare. How uncomfortable it was! The raw.feelings and emotions, the hopelessness of the characters, and their guilt hit me pretty hard.
What threw me off was the mystery part that I could see coming very early on. Besides, Scarlett/Maddison's predicament could have been prevented or handled differently, I felt that although she fought very hard to make it in life, she didn't exactly try to find a solution. She was, in a way, passive about it.
All in all, a great world building, touching characters, an enthralling execution, but a main scenario that remained easy and anticlimactic.
To be followed in book 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Characters that are impossible to forget.
Verified PurchaseHOLY….. Cannoli…. I’m at a loss for words.
Everyone who knows me knows I love Julie A. Huss’ writing. I buy every book on release day and gift her books to family and friends often. Now I can admit that I felt a little nervous when she announced that she is going to partner with Johnathan McClain on a book series. Every day until the book appeared on my Kindle; I braced myself that a partnership would change the type of stories and, more importantly, Julie’s writing style. Wow did I worry for nothing! Sin with Me is an outstanding beginning to the Original Sin series by Julie and Johnathan. They work wonderfully together. Their styles meld nicely and flow smoothly into one twisted voice. YEAH!
Sin with Me is Tyler Morgan and Maddie Clayton’s story. These two people are struggling with loss. Tyler is a soldier with survivor’s guilt. Maddie lost someone too unexpectedly. She can't move forward with her life. They meet up unexpectedly. There is an immediate attraction that neither of them understands. Maddie fights it but craves Tyler.
Maddie is working as a stripper in Las Vegas. She feels abandoned by the people she loves. On the outside, Tyler appears to have it all, but that is a façade. Tyler made a lot of money and doesn't have to work another day. Maddie has dreams but can't stick with anything long enough to make it work.
I love how these two characters complement each other. From their first meeting, the chemistry is there even if they aren’t aware it exists. There is something about Maddie that reminds Tyler of his recurring dream. Maddie recognizes their shared pain and the cry for help.
The ancillary characters are interesting. Tyler’s friends, especially Evan, are his support. They worry about him and encourage him to forgive himself. Maddie doesn’t have friends, or so she thinks until her acquaintances surprise me, and her too. That is a kind of theme running through the story, how these two are so different but not really.
In true JA Huss style, Sin with Me is dark and twisted. Johnathan’s voice adds to the sinfully twisted storyline seamlessly. I love the alternating points of view of Tyler and Maddie. Getting in their heads reveal the depth of their pain and how neither character finds life comfortable even though it wasn't always that way. Honestly, I expected the twist or secret revealed, but I didn’t expect THE SECRET TWIST reveal. I am stressing and still thinking about these characters after several days. What an absolutely poignant and captivating story from beginning to end.
I love how these authors take some dark and painful scenes then sprinkle in a little humor relief. The contrast of Tyler’s despair and depression to his macho-protector side when he is around Maddie is charming. The same is true for Maddie. She is holding on to life by a string then when Tyler a.k.a. Ford Aston (that made me laugh) appears she has someone to give her strength and forget.
Sin with Me is a cliffhanger. While I am not a cliffhanger fan, this writing duo can whip out books quickly making the gap between easy to endure. Angels Fall is scheduled to release on March 27. The characters and their story are so memorable I know they will be on my mind when the next book drops. I for one can’t wait to see how Tyler and Maddie’s adventures continue.
Well done Julie and Johnathan. You have a hit! Starting the audio ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well, that was unexpected
Verified PurchaseI bought this book expecting it to be one thing; and it was, it was sexy and risqué. Just like everything I’ve read by Julie. It was also nothing like what I expected. The addition of Johnathan’s writing voice not only alters the tempo and pacing of the story, but it amps up the energy. It feels almost frenetic as it carries you along until it dumps you on the middle of the floor wondering what happened and you’re scrambling to catch up. I’m still trying to recuperate. Can’t wait to start the next book.
