The Invitation Kindle Edition
The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city.
Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts.
I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time.
Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was. You see, that unexpected invitation I received? Well, it hadn’t actually been addressed to me—it was sent to my ex-roommate who’d bounced a check for two months’ rent and moved out in the middle of the night. I figured she owed me an expensive night out, but I guess, technically, I was crashing the wedding.
Once caught, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. As I bolted for the door, I might’ve plucked a few bottles of expensive champagne off the tables I passed, all while the gorgeous, angry groomsman was hot on my tail.
Outside, I jumped into a taxi. My heart ricocheted against my ribs as we drove down the block—but at least I’d escaped unscathed.
Or so I thought.
Until I realized I’d left my cell phone behind at the table.
Take one guess who found it?
This is the crazy story of how Hudson Rothschild and I met. But trust me, it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

"This is the magic of a Vi Keeland book. It's so effortlessly and compulsively readable. It feels light, and sexy and swoony and decadent. So when the rug is inevitably pulled out from under you, you're already too far gone to save your heart from the punches you know are about to rain down on it." -Bookgasms Book Blog

"This book touched me on so many levels, the chemistry is intense, the passion is steamy and the banter is witty. Another sure sign of a special read is when you can't stop reading but you don't want the book to end, and that's how I felt about The Invitation. I guess I do need to mention the most epic epilogue I have ever read....... it may only be the middle of January but The Invitation will be on my top reads of 2021." -Thelma and Louise Book Blog

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 January 2021This book. This book made me feel like a hopeless romantic – it was sweet and funny and had inherently likable leading characters in Hudson and Stella. I read this beauty in one sitting and was so sad when it finished – it made my heart smile.
Things kick off at a lavish wedding where Stella, our beautiful wedding crasher meets Hudson, the gorgeous brother of the bride. Their relationship is so quirky and endearing, they're funny and adorable, they push each other’s buttons and the chemistry is palpable. The nice thing is that even during the early stages of their relationship when Hudson is a bit of a jerk it's still cute and amusing and they consistently gave off soul mate vibes (told you: hopeless romantic right here).
However, when the supporting cast are all so appealing and nice (Olivia, Mason and Fisher I'm looking at you) there has to be someone in the frame to play the villain and that was the kicker in this story. I thought I knew who was in the wrong but the depth of deception was cruel and close to home on both counts. I really thought I'd predicted all of the twists and turns, the "coincidences" and hints but Vi dropped a bomb on me. She did me wrong to the point I screamed at my kindle and cried a bit for Hudson (s'okay I've forgiven her now!) But the way she made it up to the reader was beautiful.
This story teaches you that family doesn't necessarily always mean blood, that soul mates can exist, that what might appear as coincidence can sometimes be fate and that revenge isn't necessary when you have love and happiness. This book was heart-warming and I'm sure will remain in my reread pile for years to come.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 January 2021I’m sure you’ve seen other reviews and read the blurb so I won’t go into details about the story. But I loved the slow burn chemistry between the two main characters and Vi gave us a wonderful supporting cast too. We are gifted with a book you probably won’t be able to put down thanks to a good sprinkling of humour and angst together with a fascination for other people’s diaries ........ intrigued? Well buy the book!
You will not regret it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 September 2022This is the very first book I have read by this author and I have to admit that it is very sweet, albeit extremely tearful at times!!
It starts off with two friends crashing an exclusive wedding, after receiving an invite to said wedding for her old lodger.
While there, Stella meets the bride's brother and he soon realises that she isn't who she says she is. The next time she sees him is during a business meeting, with the company owned by both bride and brother.
Well things don't go the way she hoped as the brother seems to hold a grudge. However the sister manages to get him to change his mind and invest in the business.
Things start off strained, but before long the chemistry they had at the wedding, starts to boil and overflow into a loving relationship. Regardless things aren't that easy!!
It's a well written book with several laugh out loud moments and sensitivity is shown to make you truly relate with the characters.
Now to give the characters a bigger personality, are the narrator's Sebastian York and Andi Arndt. They both portray the characters fantastically!!
Sebastian has such a deep come to bed sort of timbre when it comes to the male characters, which only makes you swoon all the more!!
Andi has a nice calming sort of voice and really suited the needs and personalities, in the exact manner as you'd imagine them to sound.
All in all, they were both the right narrator's needed for this book.
I definitely recommend both book and audio 100%
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 November 2023I have read every single one of Vi’s delicious books. I am always astounded by her ability to weave her beautiful prose straight into my heart. However, THE INVITATION has me in absolute awe! The characters are so sensitively drawn, the storyline is completely captivating and enchanting; it will remain my favourite for years to come. Thank you, Ms.Keeland for the magic and the joy.

Was a fantastic read. She didn't disappoint
Hudson and Stella met when she crashed his sister's wedding. He figured she wasn't who she said she was. She rose to the challenge. Stella loves to collect old diaries that have already been written by other people. She came across one diary and it hides some secrets about Hudson ex wife.
Hudson share custody of his daughter with his ex wife. Its not pretty.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2024I love how Vi brings a unique twist to her stories and I would have rated this one higher if not for the ending. It felt a little rushed. Not because anything was missing per se, but rather because I wanted more.
Though saying that, I did have some questions regarding some of the minor characters. I wanted to see more of the fallout. It’s hard to explain without giving spoilers but when a major event casts ripples across multiple people, I want to see all the rings and waves play out, not just the ones around the main couple. Maybe I’m just too curious for my own good, but had I seen more of that, I would have rated the book higher.
Don’t let my minor disappointment in an otherwise good book put you off though. As I said at the start, Vi brings a fresh twist to tired tropes. It’s well worth a read. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastisch

5.0 out of 5 stars quirky, beautiful love story
When Stella opens the fancy invitation her ex-roommate received in the mail, she has no idea she's going to be sent on the ride of her life with the man who will change her life. Ending up leaving the wedding she crashed like Cinderella leaving the ball before midnight, she leaves her phone behind for the bride's gorgeous brother Hudson to find, unable to get the woman who smelled so good, who seemed to have the sniffer of a bloodhound, and the body of a goddess, off his mind. He isn't Prince Charming, though, because the things he wants to do to the woman he only knows as Evelyn are far more dirty than that fairy tale.
By a quirk of fate, Stella ends up pitching her signature perfume company to Hudson's VC, so now they're colleagues, and neither wants to mix business with pleasure. Well, Hudson's willing but Stella's afraid of ruining her business AND getting her heart broken. Her ex fiancé's betrayal left a lasting impression on her, and she's not gung ho about opening herself up to more possible pain. Will she ever give into the smoldering attraction that's obvious to everyone around them? The ball's in her court because Hudson refuses to ask her out twice. Now she has to choose to take a chance or stick to the safety of her comfort zone. Will things end in a Cinderella fairy tale for Stella and Hudson, or will something come up out of the blue and tilt both their worlds, especially Hudson's, off their axis, never to be righted again?
I loved this beautifully told story. From the very first page, Stella had me hooked - she's so whimsical and fun, and she has such a unique way of looking at the world, but has the largest capacity for love and compassion, that I just knew her soulmate would have to be as wonderful a person as she. Thank God Hudson turned out to be a sweetheart (after he got over his grumpster phase 😋) who could see the beautiful person inside Stella that she couldn't see about herself. And, lest I forget, the most adorable little scene stealer, ever, Charlie. She was probably the best part of this quirky, beautiful love story. I don't think I'll ever forget Stella the perfumist, Hudson the investor, and Charlie the precocious little girl, and the meant to be family they created for themselves.
