Packed with the sweet, tender first love feels, the first half of the story is full of all the excitement of young love, genuine connection and new attraction. "Raven was like a drug. I was fine until I let myself have a little taste of her again." Yet despite all the common ground they found, they came from very different worlds. Raven was the hired help at Gavin’s family’s estate, and his mother makes is crystal clear that Raven has no place in Gavin’s life.

    I've been a longtime fan of Penelope Ward, I liked this story but I felt like it lacked depth, it was emotional to some degree as her books always are, but the actual relationship between the 2 MCs felt very surface level to me. Still, it was a nice, quick read. Happy reading!

    ‘Sometimes you can still feel the love you had for someone inside your heart, even after they shatter it.’ The Day He Came Back was a brilliant and emotional read, it drew me in and kept me there until the final word. This story begins on the day he (Gavin) came back and walks straight into Raven’s life after a decade of them being apart with no contact. Ten years earlier Gavin and Raven met and unexpectedly fell in love. They were two people from such diverse backgrounds and they shared one summer together which changed their lives. It was everything to them and then it ended very badly. Ten years has been a long time for them both, it’s been full of regret, pain, emptiness and sadness. Nothing prepares them for the feelings that resurface. Yet everything is bittersweet and is tinged with sadness and regret. They know that they have a love they weren’t able to let go of but just because they didn’t know how to let go of it doesn’t guarantee that they know how to move forward with it either... Penelope Ward is such an amazing author and this book is just another example of why she’s a favourite of mine.

    I'm not sure what it was but I just couldn't really get into this book. I've read a lot of this authors works and I mostly really enjoy them it's just not this time. I felt like I was reading 2 different books at times and that may have been deliberate but it didn't work for me. I found the first part of the book to be a little immature bearing in mind the H & h were 21 and 18 I suppose that is not surprising but even 10 years later it didn't feel as though they had grown up at all. Moving them half a works apart and giving them grown up professions doesn't make them grown ups. I have to admit the second part of the book I found better but it all just seemed a bit contrived and all tied up in a nice now by the end which I found moved too quickly. 10 years apart after having hearts ripped out but its OK we know now know it was, all is forgiven lets forgive and forget move along people.It appears I'm in there minority here but I really hope Weldons story is a bit more believable.

    The Day He Came Back by Penelope Ward is yet another emotionally charged, sexy romance from a must-read author. A second chance romance that is about so much more than JUST second chances. Told in dual points of view between Raven and Gavin, this story had me hooked from the first page.

    Raven may come from the other side of the bridge in Palm Beach but she knows her worth. Gavin is tired of the haughty expectations of his mother and wants nothing more than to be happy, and Raven makes him happy. But when social standing becomes more important than her own sons happiness the relationship that was just getting started between Raven and Gavin implodes.

    Fast forward ten years and it is sheer cosmic fate that has Raven and Gavin back in the same house at the same time. Will they ever be able to get past their history and work out their differences or is this meeting just a chance to properly say goodbye.

    Emotional, heart-breaking, romantic, sexy, powerful - as always - Loved it! Enjoy!

    Seriously. This is a STELLAR contemporary romance that so totally clicked with me on so many levels.

    First, the emotions. Penelope did a fantastic job of writing all of the feels that had me on the verge of tears several times, and cracking a huge smile at others.

    Next, the smart-ness; the characters didn't pull any of that "well, I should say this out loud to avoid any confusion, but I'll just keep it a secret anyway" stuff. Nope! These characters said what they needed to say, and the story worked around the real-ness of the characters saying what a real person would say in the same situation.

    Oh, and the book is SMOKIN'. But it's more than just sexy-hot because there's so much emotion surrounding the sexytimes.

    Sigh...I REALLY liked this book!

    (I was given this book in consideration of my honest thoughts)

    This book should be advised for 16-18 years teenagers, mainly for the first part of the romance, otherwise it is boring. In the whole, so many tragedies in both families that maybe they are haunted or the plot is unrealistic, probably the latter.
    I gave three stars because I know Penelope Ward is a good writer, but to this book I should be giving two.
