The beginning of my sophomore year in college was off to a rough start.

And so it began…my love-hate story with Caleb Yates. Or was it hate-love in that order?

The guy knew how to push every one of my buttons.
Sometimes I’d email him to express my aggravation and disdain.
He’d actually rewrite my own words and send them back to me.
That was the type of infuriating person Caleb was.
So frustrating.
And…
Sometimes incredibly funny and endearingly sweet.
And hot.

He eventually grew on me, and Caleb soon became one of my best friends that year.
Too bad he was headed back to England soon, so nothing could happen between us—for so many reasons.
I definitely couldn't fall in love with him, especially since all we had was just one year.

I don't typically reach for college-age stories as much as I used to but I really feel like this one had it all. I felt classic Ward (think Stepbrother Dearest or Jake Undone) in this one which I absolutely LOVED!"I'd always felt close to Teagan, but now she'd infiltrated my soul in a way tht felt irreversible."Teagan is a loner. She keeps to herself in her family, dresses as to not stand out, and keeps up with her studies. She looks for relationships that won't be complicated, lacking love and attraction. Caleb enters her life at a time when she least expects it.Their relationship starts off rocky to say the least. Not really friendly, just coexisting. After things progress, they realize their mutual feelings can't be ignored. Their romance is a whirlwind as Caleb's time in the US is limited. Their relationship is basically doomed from the start as they didn't want to get involved since they're on a time limit. Decisions are made, hearts are broken, but in the end we're left with a super sweet HEA for the ages!

    Caleb is in Boston as an exchange student to complete his freshman year. His parents are back in the UK. He’s finally free to let go of some of his past and live happily in the present. He’s fun and witty which he hides his pain. He’s loyal and good. He’s just a little lost.

    Teagan is a genius, introvert working toward her degree in marine biology. She’s driven and dedicated when it comes to her studies, however she’s not great with people or emotional attachments. From a loving family, she still keeps herself on the outside.

    Her and Caleb get off on the wrong foot but since she’s now his host family while he’s in the US, they’ll have to find a way to get along. Caleb wins her over quickly with his British charm and s'mores.

    They started out butting heads, but soon become friends who share their deepest secrets and painful pasts. It doesn’t take long for friendship to turn into romantic feelings. The only problem is Caleb’s stay has an end date.

    Caleb and Teagan share an incendiary slow burn. He’s leaving at the end of the school year. He has family and obligations to get back to, so starting a relationship is the last thing they should do. However, the pull is just too strong. There comes a point where you need to decide whether to make the most of the time you have or live with the regret of never knowing how good it could have been.

    This story was filled with emotion. Love and loss. Guilt and heartache. It was chasing dreams and finding your happiness. It was sexual chemistry and falling in love. The path is not always straight forward, but the ending makes it all worth it. You will fall in love with Teagan and Caleb!

It's no wonder Teagan couldn't help but fall in love with him! Caleb is everything you hope for in a hero, complete with a sensitive side that will make you melt. I sure as heck swooned something fierce! He's a little bit lost, trying to find his place in the world and decide which direction his life will take. Teagan is also lost, living at home with her father, step-mother and step-sister but unsure how she fits into their world. Her past has defined her present and future and she's stuck behind some pretty steep walls that she has erected. When Caleb comes to live with Teagan's family, the two forge a beautiful friendship and, eventually a relationship of sorts. I loved watching these two beautiful souls heal one another. Of course nothing is easy as Caleb is only living in America for a year. What will become of their budding relationship? Will they find their way back to one another after they're separated? There's a happily ever after on the horizon for these two but you'll have to read the story to see how it plays out. 4.5 stars

    I just want to say that this is one of my favorite covers and after reading the book it was so perfect!! Penelope Ward just continues to put out the most incredible stories. For as many books that she has published each and every story is unique with the best characters!! Just One Year is a standalone told from both points of view.

    Teagan and Caleb’s meet cute was just that and it was beyond cute!! Teagan had to use the rest room and the ladies was closed, so she snuck into the men’s room the smelly men room!! She runs into Caleb and tries to defend herself with the smell. Dang funny stuff!!

    Caleb ends up being a foreign exchange student that will be staying in Teagan’s house for one year. He fits right into the household, gets along with her Dad, Stepmom, and little sister. For her own reasons Teagan has distanced herself from her family. Having Caleb in the house has changed the dynamic and opened her eyes to see things differently.

    Teagan and Caleb's story is a slow burn romance but I love that their friendship is formed before it even became obvious that they had feelings for each other. The spark between Keaton and Caleb comes out in different forms, Caleb knows how to push her buttons, the sarcasm and banter are overflowing. And she is brutally honest on everything especially her feelings. Each has their very own reasons for the way they are with their families. It was like they were put in the same place at the same time so that they could each heal the other. So many different levels to this story and with Penelope’s’ incredible storytelling it flows beautifully. We are gifted an amazing epilogue that made me feel all the happy feels!!

    This was an okay read and the main characters were alright. The beginning of the book was more interesting where Teagen and Caleb exchanged witty banters via email. Caleb was the exchange student staying at Teagen’s house. They started off on the wrong footing, became great friends and then engaged in a relationship though Caleb was only in the US for a year. I felt that the latter part of the book fell slightly flat.

    It was a really funny start of their story and it even got better and better!!
    I really really enjoyed it!

    Hands down one of my fave books of 2020. I was hesitant to pay the quite high price for an ebook of this but I'm so glad I did. This book was worth every cent.
    It's utterly mesmerising, drawing you in straight away into the angsty romance. The characters had great backstories that were weaved into the narrative exceptionally. The whole book is extremely well written and I could barely put it down. I had to know if they got together, and even though it wasn’t super steamy it was hot as blazers.
    My heart hammered, shattered and then repaired. This is a beautiful captivating romance that was a pleasure to read. 5 stars all the way!
