Kismet in the Sky: A Second Chance Romance, Office Romance (Fated Love Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 262 ratings

After sitting next to him on a flight to Delhi eight years ago, I didn’t think I’d ever see the tall, green-eyed gorgeous stranger again.

Except in my dreams.

But now, Clark Cooper is the COO of my company and I’m going to have a lot more to lose than just my job if we act on our undeniable attraction.

We’ve traveled very different roads over the past eight years and carry a lot of baggage.

We’re both fueled by guilt. My guilt adheres me to marry the man my orthodox Indian parents choose. His guilt has him running from relationships, let alone marriage.

But you know what they say about the things we can’t have.

We always want them.

Having read Swati’s later 2 series, I have just now finished this book about Clark and Avni. This is actually her debut novel and it is sooo good. What a couple! I absolutely love her style of writing and the insight into Indian culture within Avni’s family. Emotional with all the feels and spicy and of course a HEA. I can't believe it's the author's debut novel. This book is one of the sweetest books I have ever read. The originality and life she brought into the characters are amazing. A must-read for all.

    The things I loved -
    1. Avni's relationship with her parents. I could relate to it since I'm also an Indian.
    2. Clark. He has got into the list of my book boyfriends. I love him 🥰❤.

    Favorite Quotes :
"Love comes at too high of a cost and has a low return on investment."

"Remember that line I wasn’t supposed to cross? It’s a dot somewhere on the horizon now."

“Love isn’t about keeping score, Avni. One person always has to make the first move. And sometimes one person has more to risk. But the reward of risking your heart could be far sweeter than anything you’ve ever fathomed.”

"My poor unprotected heart. He’ll turn it to ash if he ever decides that he’s had enough of it."

    Trope: Office Romance/ Boss Employee

Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 (This book brought a smile to my face every time I was reading it. That tells everything you need to know.)

Chemistry: ❤❤❤❤❤/5 (I loved the chemistry between Clark and Avni)

Comedy: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣/5 ( I laughed at odd times just because of some dialogues in the book. Some were hilarious.)

Angst: 🥵🥵🥵🥵/5 (There were heated scenes and they were drool-worthy.)

Anticipation: 😰😰😰😰/5 (After 70%, I was like reading through in a single sitting. I couldn't put the book down.)

Plot Twist: 🤯🤯🤯/5 (I love how it came around towards the end especially the epilogue)

Would I read more books from this author? Yes! I would love to read the next book, Surrender to the stars that is going to release soon! I hope Misha will also get a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great debut novel!

Kismet in the Sky by Swati M.H. is her debut novel, and it was an emotionally turbulent yet exhilarating flight into the minds of two complex individuals who struggle to find love amongst the backdrop of familial obligations, painful past romances, and their own insecurities about this new, burgeoning relationship. Clark and Avni met 8 years ago on a flight to India, though Avni was just an impressionable 16 year old then. Clark was a 24 year old Stanford graduate who had started his own business, and was going on vacation. Their brief encounter left such an impact on Avni that she's low key been in love with him and has measured up the boys in her life to this man she's met once. When they meet 8 years later, Avni is applying for a marketing position at a company of which Clark is the COO, but he doesn't recognize her. In the place of the 16 year old is a young woman that Clark feels an unusual attraction to, but both Clark and Avni has to work through the past 8 years since they last saw each other to learn more about this new version of themselves today.

Both Avni and Clark have impenetrable walls around their heart, essentially protecting them from hurt, guilt, and insecurities. I love that although both these characters meet when they were young, the experiences they've been through were honored and explored throughout this book to explain how it shaped them into the people they are. Avni has plenty of guilt about the passing of her youngest sister, and she overcompensates by trying to do what makes her parents feel happy and secure, at the expense of her own desires. I so enjoyed reading about Avni's interactions with parents and a lot of the immigrant mentalities are so familiar to me: the emphasis on a good school, work ethic, and career, Avni's mom's desire to feed everyone and her thoughts about Western medicine, the fine balance of keeping and assimilating to different cultures, even the implicit biases and generalizations that older immigrants tend to have. It was so heartwarming to see how Avni's fears and hesitations are acknowledged by her family, and that in the end, love is what drives their family and they're opening their hearts to all the changes that'll heal them.

Clark's been burned by his parent's marriage and his own past romance, and so he's sworn off relationships when he meets Avni. He can't control the attraction he feels towards her though, and he's wiling to try and Avni's wiling to meet him halfway. This show of compromise and truth is the root of their relationship, though Clark's fear of losing Avni causes him to hide some things from her. I feel like Clark's still battling some effects about his parent's marriage and his own romantic past, and that fear of abandonment, failure, and regret truly overshadows the love that he's building with Avni. Both Avni are Clark are trying to move on with each other, and the root of this story is about creating a life and love that you desire, one not determined by your parents, your culture, your past experiences, the expectations of other people or society. Their journey shows that you need to address your history, the success and the failures, because when you live a life still mired in the past, you're not really living at all.

"I want to inhale her ferociously as if she's the air I need to survive after being submerged under water for too long."

Kismet in the Sky is a wonderful read. It was interesting, emotional, forbidden, with a twist of fate. The characters are likeable and strong. You can't help but pull for them. Their chemistry was sizzling hot! I enjoyed reading this story. For a debut novel from Swati M.H. I thought she did a awesome job! I will be reading many more of her stories.

Swati is a new author for me, and this is actually her 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 book if I remember correctly. It's definitely not bad for a debut book at all. 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩! Clark and Avni chemistry was 𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐙𝐈𝐍𝐆!! It's a fated, interracial (Indian/White), office romance. It was definitely refreshing to read a book on the Indian culture. ⁣

Clark had a past that I'm going to keep my mouth shut and won't spoil it. He's the no relationship kind of guy. Avni had an accident that changed her family forever. She's the oldest daughter so no matter what she does, she doesn't want to let her parents down. She and Clark met on a flight to India. 8 years later, Avni got hired at Review AI. Clark happened to be the co-founder of the company. It was definitely 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘵. ⁣

It was definitely a 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯, but when they couldn't resist each other anymore, it was 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞!! I 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 of Clark and Avni!! Can't wait to read more of Swati's books though!! ⁣
