Mr. Match #1

Scoring the Keeper's Sister

Rate this book
Soulmates don't always start as friends. Sometimes they start as enemies. And sometimes they need cheese to help seal the deal...

ERICA:

Signing up for a matchmaking service was not my idea.

But when Andrew-the-Hand-Model dumped me, my brother suggested I try Mr. Match. And I figured it couldn’t hurt. As it was, I’d never get away from meathead moron soccer players (since my brother plays keeper for the South Bay Sharks and I manage PR for the team). But Mr. Match is a moron too because he matched me with a guy I see at work every day. A guy who has a different girl on his arm at every turn. And a soccer player.

Fernando Fuerte, the “Fuerte Fire,” is one guy I can assure you is NOT my match.

FERNANDO:

Getting girls is not a problem.

Getting girls who care about something besides my status as the South Bay Sharks star striker, my salary, and my social status?

Yeah. That’s the problem. So when my buddy Max tells me he’s actually Mr. Match–the secret proprietor of San Diego’s hottest matchmaking app, I let him convince me to try it.

And Erica Johnson is not actually a bad match–only she doesn’t seem to agree. And then there’s the small matter of her being in the middle of trying to save the team (and me) when the owner’s ex brings to light some, ahem, unsavory accusations about me…

And then there’s her enormous and disapproving twin brother…

And there’s something about cheese, too.

But if I have my way? Erica will definitely be my match.

Scoring the Keeper’s Sister is book one in the Mr. Match series by Delancey Stewart.

Fernando Fuerte, otherwise known as Fuerte Fire, is the star striker for the South Bay Sharks, San Diego’s pro soccer team. Fernando has a reputation of being a player. The internet is full of photos of him with beautiful women on his arm, never the same one. In the bar where the team likes to hang out, there are always women flirting, trying to score with the soccer star.

Erica Johnson is the twin sister of the team’s Keeper, Trace. She also works for the team. She is in charge of all of their PR. So she’s the one who has to try to cover over any scandals the guys get in. The tabloids love Fernando’s supposed exploits which in turn keeps her busy smoothing it over. And now, the team’s owner’s ex-wife is out to get revenge on her ex-husband and is making all sorts of statements to the press regarding the team’s players. Most recently, she’s focused in on Fernando.

Erica has terrible luck with choosing men so her brother convinces her to submit her profile to Mr. Match. At the same time, Fernando teammate, Max, admits to him that he is really Mr. Match. And Max convinces Fernando to submit his own profile. When Max does his magic, you’ll never guess who pops up as the perfect match!

Erica is appalled that she is matched with someone like Fernando. But as she gets to know him a little better, she sees who he really is, just a somewhat lonely guy who is trying to care for his sick mother and loves helping out the youth of the city but keeps his volunteer work under the radar. He’s a good man. But between a bet involving some fancy cheese, the team owner’s ex’s latest accusations, an over-protective brother, and so much more, it seems the stars just aren’t aligned for these two.

This was a sweet, sexy story with more feels than I though it would have. There was a lot of jumping to conclusions between these two. I wish they would have listened to each other better. But Mr. Match knew they were the perfect match for each other. They just had to stop and really open themselves up and they would find their HEA. The next book in the series, book two, is Scoring a Fake Fiancee, and is Erica’s brother, Trace’s book. I wonder what sort of trouble he’ll get in to?!

I've become a fan of Delancey Stewart's writing and this book is an example of why. This sports romance also ties in dating your friend's sister and a little bit of enemies to lovers. So many great romance sub-genres all tied into one awesome book.

Fernando and Erica were really interesting and well developed characters. I loved the different dimensions they had. They both were very loyal to their families. They were extremely compassionate and selfless as well. I really liked them and many of their friends and family.

Overall this story was an easy read with humor, some steamy moments, and great characters. I would certainly recommend it and I look forward to reading more in the series.

Erica hates Fernando and all that she thinks he is. He is arrogant, annoying, and womanizer. Did she mention he was hot. She run PR for the professional soccer team that he and her brother play for. She can't avoid him so she makes it known to him that she does not like him. So when a match maker service says they are a perfect match, she thinks something is wrong. Until a small moment when she catches him with his guard down. Maybe there is more to Fernando than she thinks. Fernando's rep is not quite as big as it is reported. He likes women but not as many as reported. He is really a good guy. He wants to meet someone that wants more than a professional athlete and all that goes with it. When he is matched with Erica, he thinks the universe is out to get him. He thinks she is hot, but maybe not worth the hassle until she helps him when he is down. This a fun sexy story of enemies to lovers and all the stuff in between. Good start to the series.

I guess working with a bunch of hot and successful professional soccer players was only showing Erica what she didn't want, especially top "player" Fernando Fuerte. Of course that name alone got my attention even before I started reading the book. Yet when two people argue as much as they do it's normally to cover up something. Leave it to a match making site secretly run by one of his teammates that they realize they are a perfect match. Takes a while for them to fight it but when something life altering comes up they see each other differently and let go of the walls. Lots of frustrating misunderstandings but enough hot sex to make up for them.

The dating app Mr. Match has been matching couples with a good success rate. So, when his teammate decides to sign him up, Fernando Fuerte never imagined his perfect match would be the one woman that hated him. However, the more time he and Erica spend together, the more they find things aren't always what they seem. Will Fernando be able to convince Erica to give him a chance or will Fernando's past transgressions cause Erica to walk away?

What a fun and very entertaining read Ms. Stewart has delivered in this first book of her Mr. Match series where the dialogue was compelling from start to finish due to the main characters back stories and their banter, which was a mixture of intense and playful moments; and the main characters were fascinating and had me loving their back stories and their journey to happy ever after, as it felt like these two would never get things right. Is it really hard for the pair to trust the one they're with?

The way this story started had me wanting to know more about Mr. Match and how it's so successful in matching couples. What is the secret to the site's success? Are Erica and Fernando truly meant for each other, considering how much Erica dislikes Fernando since he's a total player? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really gets interesting, as Fernando isn't the smoothest guy when Erica is around. Something his friends aren't afraid to point out the moment the heroine enters the story, which had me amused.

With the main characters, I absolutely loved this pair together, as they start off as enemies, but Erica soon finds her opinion of Fernando changing, as she helps him deal with things that are going on in his life with his mother and with someone trying to cause problems for him. Will Erica be able to help Fernando? I also liked the close friendship the heroine has with her best friend and her brother. Since she and her brother have only had each other while the heroine's best friend is always offering advice and helping her out. While the hero, he and his mom are extremely close and I couldn't help but sympathize with him because of the thought that he might lose her. I also liked how determined the hero was to win the heroine over, especially since they've both judged each other wrong. Yes, women throw themselves at him because he's a big name in soccer. Yet, Erica's different. She likes him for him and not the big name soccer player he is.

Overall, Ms. Stewart has delivered a really good read in this book, which has me looking forward to more books of this series; and where the chemistry between Erica and Fernando was strong; the romance was full of heat and passion; and the ending had me loving how this couple are reunited after their relationship goes awry. Really, loving someone goes a long way to earning forgiveness, especially when one of them realizes they were in the wrong. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as the hero's mom is so demanding and funny. I would recommend Scoring the Keeper's Sister by Delancey Stewart, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope, the matchmaking trope or books by authors Cindi Madsen, Jen Doyle, Jamie Howard and Sarah Robinson.

This is one book I did not see coming. Scoring The Keeper's Sister was ' THAT ' ROM-COM that keeps on giving. To be honest this is the first I have read by this author, and I can point blank tell you, it most definitely will not be the last. I did not expect to fall for Erica and Fernando as characters, but Stewart had a way of letting both characters develop into these amazing people with amazing personalities. I thought the story-line was unique, and I really enjoyed viewing not only their views, but others' as well. Scoring The Keeper's Sister was a light read, with a plot perfect that fit both Erica and Fernando. This enemies to lovers / brother's friend, had the perfect amount of heat, with loads of hilarity.

Erica is smart, and sassy with a personality that is out of this world. She has a twin brother that is pretty much her best friend that plays soccer for the South Bay Sharks. Being super close, she chose to stay uber close to him, and become the PR Rep for the same team. Her one rule in life is to not date any player, weather it be an athletic or just a normal Joe with a 9 to 5. She don't want anything that involves the lime light, and prefers the simplicity of life.

Fernando is the South Bay Sharks star striker. He is every woman's fantasy, look wise. He is known as a womanizer, with plenty of ladies to choose from, but secretly wants what money can't buy, which is someone that is for him and not his status nor his money. He is absolutely hilarious, without even trying to be. He is sweet, and caring and so darn amazing. He is a momma's boy down to his core, and it shows with how sensual he is.

When Mr. Match identifies Erica and Fernando as the perfect match, both are in 100 % denial. The more they see of each other, intentional or not, the more the chemistry burns. But what happens when accusations are made, and a twin brother is against it, is their attraction enough or is life in the spotlight too much for Erica?

* Can be Read as a standalone. But I assume will be an interconnected standalone.

* I recommend this book.

Scoring the Keeper's Sister is the first of Delancey Stewart's books for me and it was right up my alley as I love a good romcom. This is the first in a new series, Mr. Match which promises to be funny and sweet! The heart may want what it wants but Mr. Match is always right because...math!

Erika Johnson in content to live in the shadow of her famous twin brother, who plays for the San Diego Sharks. She's always been more of a behind the scenes girl anyway. As the PR director for the team, she knows all the dirt and drama on Trace's teammates. Recently she's noticed she doesn't really have a life that doesn't revolve around the team and she's feeling a little... lonely. But with a brute of a brother and as the keeper of all the team's secrets, she's vowed to never date a player. Maybe Mr. Match can help her... she signs up with the secretive service that promises to match with near perfect mathematical probability.

Fernando Fuerte, aka the Fuerte Fire, is the team's striker and all around media darling. They love to play up this "player persona" and while it was fun in the beginning, it's gotten kind of old. The truth is Fernando wants what most of us want, that one someone that knows his ins and outs, and loves him for who he really is, not his fame or money. Signing up for Mr. Match was a longshot but it's creator is a frigging genius and the satisfaction ratings prove it. But when the service declares his one match is the one woman that wouldn't want to touch him with a ten-foot pole, it's laughable. Both he and Erika are baffled by the match but as they spend more time together, they realize there is an undeniable chemistry between them and maybe they didn't know each other as much as they thought.

This is a sweet and funny story with great characters and heartfelt backstories. Should be a fun series to read with all these crazy soccer players!

Delancey Stewart has a way with sexy contemporary romance that keeps you glued to the book, turning pages, and not really caring about the world around you! And she definitely did all that with Scoring the Keeper’s Sister, which is the first in Mr. Match series!

Erica Johnson manages PR for the soccer team her brother plays for, and is forever taking a backseat to everyone. She’s tough and beautiful, but she knows she’ll be alone forever if she doesn’t do something about it. Even her twin brother, Trace thinks she should try Mr. Match. What could it hurt?

Fernando Fuerte is the striker for the team Erica does PR for. He can’t help it if the tabloids twist everything they see and make it look like he’s a complete player. Not that he hasn’t dated, but come on. When his team mate, Max convinces him to try Mr. Match, Fernando is hopeful.

Until he gets his match.

Laugh and cry and swoon your way through the ups and downs as Erica and Fernando find out what they are to each other, while they find out more about themselves as well.

This book is funny and sexy, and sure to entertain! I cannot wait for the next book in this series – and you’ll be on the edge of your seat, too.

Funny and lighthearted, an entertaining read

A new-to-me author, I’m always on the lookout for new sports romances (a favorite genre), so with an amusing blurb, I decided to give this a try.

The author has a fun and lighthearted style, with the characters occasionally talking directly to the reader in a break-the-fourth-wall kind of approach. It not only made me laugh and helped to keep me engaged, but it also worked well with the cute concept of a very analytical match-making service matching up two people who already knew other and didn’t consider the other a possibility.

In fact, Fernando and Erica had close to a love-hate kind of relationship as the player and the pr rep, so it was fun watching them take a chance, only to find out there was more to the other than was showing on the surface. Plus having a third person outside of the relationship defending the match added a lot for me.

Of course, it wasn’t all great pr and scoring goals; in spite of their obvious chemistry, they had several obstacles to get over, including trust issues. Then there were the protective twin brother and the team owner’s vindictive ex-wife, just two of some great secondary characters helping to round out the book. Some of the plot was a little predictable, but it didn’t really detract from the story for me, and there were a couple of little twists as well.

Funny and generally lighthearted with a few deeper moments, this was a quick and entertaining read, and I’ll certainly be keeping my eyes open for more from this author. 4 stars

First time reading this author and what a book to choose and it won't be my last. I did not see this coming, it's that ROM-COM which keeps on giving. I wasn't expecting to love Erica and Fernando as characters but you see them develop as the book progress and I love it, you see their personalities show in the book. What a unique story line, and love the multi point of view as you got to see the story from different angles.

Erica is smart and sassy with plenty of personality and is incredible, she has a twin brother which is like her best friend, he plays soccer for the South Bay Sharks. She's the PR rep for the team after deciding she wanted to be close to her brother. Her one rule in life is to not date any players, whether athletic or a normal guy with a 9-5 job. She wanted to remain out the limelight and prefers a simple life.

Fernando is the South Bay Sharks star striker. Every woman fantasises about him, with his looks, he's the know womaniser with plenty of ladies to choose from. He secretly wants what money can't buy which is someone who wants him for who he is and not just his status or money. He really is sweet and caring and so amazing.

When Mr Match identifies them both as the perfect match for each other, there is no denying it, even though they are both 100% in denial. The more they interact and see each other the more the chemistry burns. What happens when her brother finds out and when accusations are thrown about. Is the attraction enough or will the life in the spotlight be too much for Erica.

Highly recommend.

"How could I explain that the girl who loathed me most in the world also starred in my dirtiest dreams."

Fernando Fuerte is looking for something real. He's fed up with women who want him just for his status rather than for himself. When he lets himself be persuaded by his friend to join Mr Match, he's absolutely knocked sideways by his perfect match result.

"It's just crazy how much I wish I could kiss you right now."

Erica Johnson doesn't date players, especially those who play on the same soccer team as her twin brother, especially not the 'Fuerte Fire', no matter how attractive she finds him. She's absolutely aghast when Mr Match pins him as her perfect match. However, when she glimpses a vulnerable side to Fernando, her guard starts to slip little by little.

This was a really enjoyable story of two people who are simultaneously mutually attracted and repelled, but need to overcome their preconceptions of each other to get through to the real people beneath the facades. Erica is a strong character who doesn't put up with any nonsense. She has a good heart and is really good at her job. Fernando is definitely more than his public persona. He's more than a playboy with his soft spots hidden well beneath the surface.

The two together were sexy, fiery and heartwarming.

I received this book for Free to Give My True & Honest Review.

This is my first book by Delancey Stewart that I have read & I really enjoyed it.

Here we meet the PR to the soccer team The Sharks Erica Johnson twin to soccer ace Chase Johnson for the team. And she's always adamant she won't go with a soccer player as they're usually are 'players' especially Fernando Fuerte who's never pictured more than once with the same woman & doesn't really know him. But they both join Max Winchell (his best mate)'s dating site, which has high rate of putting together 2 people it appears they're meant to be the perfect match.
Though it wasn't really to do with the Match that got them talking & getting to know each other it was down to seeing Fernando in a different light after she sees him quieter & deep in thought & he opens up to her & then she opens up to him also.
Though things don't go as smoothly as they thought it may, when after doing her job of trying to put the team in good light without knowing she was going to the place where he asked her not to do. So we see things take a turn & not sure if Mr.Match's predictions are right for them...

This book is the start of a new series ‘Mr Match’ by Delancey Stewart and was an unexpected treat, it’s an enemies to lovers/brother’s best friend romance. It was a funny, heart-warming story with a sexy sizzle that kept a smile on my face. Erica and Fernando were fun characters, and I was easily drawn into the story with them.
Erica is a smart, sassy woman with a big personality that could overwhelm some men, but Fernando wasn’t one of them. He’s not supposed to be the guy she falls for, she has rules and likes to stick to them.
Fernando has a secret desire that he doesn’t let just anyone know. But when he and Erica are identified as the perfect match, by Mr. Match, a computerized dating site, neither believes it will work out. Erica thinks Fernando is a typical player and that’s so not what she is looking for.
But once these two got over the shock and actually gave it a shot, things heated up and the sparks flew.
Will they burn out before the whistle blows for end time or will they make it to the final. Find out on Scoring The Keeper’s Sister today..

Well this book ended up by being a big pleasant surprise. This is my first book by Delancey Stewart and it was just fabulous. I love rom-coms, add in my favourite romance genre-sports-and this book ticked all the boxes for me.
I was a bit confused at the start, when the book started out with Max, but it all makes sense and I thought this was a very clever and unique storyline by Delancey.
Fernando and Erica's story is a bit enemies to lovers. That is until they realise Mr Match has matched them together and they start to see each other differently.
There are plenty of ups and downs but it all added to make this the wonderful story that it is.
Would definitely read more from this author.

This was a really cute sports romance type with elements of hate to love and also the whole matchmaking service. I really liked Fernando. He wasn’t as bad a guy as Erica makes him seem and as she started to really get to know him and she saw that, the switch flipped and bam it turned into a beautiful romance. There wasn’t a ton of detailed sex scenes and I felt that that made the story thrive. Yes there was a great attraction but it was so much more then sex for these two.

They had their ups and downs and the all that jazz that makes a romance novel worth devouring, but the drama wasn’t super overwhelming. It gave that hint of angst that makes your heart ache and speed up. We get our beautiful HEA and it was worth waiting for. This is my first book by this author and I plan to read more. She has a great writing style and I can’t wait to see what more she has. 4 stars #2OCCJD

A fun romance with some misunderstandings and work conflict.

Erica is dedicated to work and her brother. Now they are one and the same. She is the PR manager for her brother's soccer team. Fernando is another player (on and off the team).

Erica isn't dating at all after her last disaster. When another player builds a unique, guaranteed dating app she gets roped into trying it out. Surprise, Erica, and Fernando are matched.

PR threats, bets, families, misunderstandings, and teams all help to make this a fun time kicking the dating ball down the field. Oh, and don't forget the steam.

Erica is the PR rep for the South Bay Sharks which is the same team that her twin brother plays for. She has seen the way the members of the team change their women faster than they change their socks and she wants no part of it. When her brother suggests Mr. Match, she figures she has nothing to lose.

Fernando is the star striker for the team who has a reputation with the ladies. He is looking for a real relationship rather than the flings that seem to find him so when he hears about Mr. Match he is all in.

When they are matched up Erica doesn’t understand how a womanizer can be her mate while Fernando doesn’t see what they could possibly have in common. There is no denying the chemistry between them and as they really get to know each other they realize Mr. Match might have know what he was doing but are they able to handle the obstacles that are being thrown at them?

Erica and Fernando were a wonderful couple to start a new series with. He has secretly been in to her for awhile, but her attitude towards him has him keeping his distance. When his team mate, Mr. Match, forces him into signing up on his website, he doesn't think anything will come if it. She willingly signs herself up, and is shocked when she is paired with him.
Both characters are strong, independent, and secretly looking for the one. They also both make mistakes, mainly by jumping to conclusions. When a pr nightmare involving Fernando creeps up, it is her job to stop it, but she isn't sure how after her attempts fail. When she does something that he asks her not to, she could destroy everything, but she does it anyway.
An enemies-to-lovers, brothers best friend romance with twists and turns you don't see coming. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

I really enjoyed this book! The chemistry between Erica and Fernando was on FIRE!

Erica does the social media for her brother's soccer team. They are extremely close and this was a great way to use her degree and make sure that she is able to take care of him. She loves being close to him and the team... well except for one of the players... Fernando.

Fernando has not had the best rep in the business, but he is a great guy that has done a lot of good, but does not want that to get out.

The entire way this played out and how a soccer player is a freaking evil genious that invented a dating app is absolutely priceless.

If you enjoy enemies to lovers, this one is definitely your jam. It was witty, real and a great story to read!

5 outta 5 rating from me!

PS: I received this book as an ARC in return for my honest opinion.

"Well this book ended up by being a big pleasant surprise.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book." ~Sharon

Enjoyable enemies to lovers style story that had me laughing quite a bit throughout it. Even with the ups and downs both mc's had, it was still a more light-hearted story with lots of laughs. Will gladly read more from this author in the future. ~Jen

A soccer playing match maker.

Erica and Fernando both sign up to a dating site that promises to match you with your one true love - no pointless dates, led downs etc. Fernando plays for the team as Mr Match, whilst Erica is responsible for the team's public relations. She has a tough job at present due to the ex-wife of the owner doing all she can to drag the team through the mud. Erica also doesn't particularly like Fernando which is probably something to do with the fact she spends a lot of time cleaning up his image. When they are matched their instant reaction is recoil but the site is never wrong.

This was a fun and quirky read that was light and brought the warm fuzzies with it. The characters played off each other in a fun way and felt real. The tension between them was good and playful which meant that the whole book gave off a good vibe.

This book had me hooked from the first page. I don't remember the last time I read a romantic comedy that hit me with the funnies and the feels from the start. I could not get enough of the main characters, Erica and Fernando, and the rest of the Sharks were just as awesome! I loved that it had the sports team tie in, but that wasn't the main focus. Also, it had the matchmaker spin, too, and while that is how it starts, this book did not lean on it at all. It struck its own path into entertaining read and I could not be happier. I also really liked that you get a glimpse into to Mr. Match's mind and as well as the main characters. It added an extra plus to the book that I really enjoyed. I will for sure be reading more in the series and I can't wait to see who Mr. Match pairs up next!

PR manager for soccer team The South Bay Sharks Erica Johnson can’t believe that the online matchmaker service Mr. Match pairs her with playboy Sharks player Fernando Fuerte. Fernando thinks Erica hates him and would never go out with him. There were a lot of ups and downs in this romance as Fernando deals with image problems and his mother’s illness and Erica with false stories about him and the owner’s ex wife that could cause her to lose her job. They both walk away from each several times. The humor in this romance was a bit raunchy. I would love to read a romance about her brother Trace or Max, the creator of Mr. Match.

This is an exceptional read that will draw you in from beginning to end! It is well written, fast pace, funny, witty, moves at a brisk pace, and is very enjoyable. The characters are loveable, deep, and sweet; the chemistry between them is blazing hot. I loved watching their story unfold and the ups and downs make for a wonderful story. This is a very interesting and engaging read that I highly recommend reading. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A fabulous start to what I think its gonna be a hilarious new series. This was my first book by this author and I wasn't disappointed. When we first meet Erica and Fernando I really wasnt thinking they would match but obviously Mr. Match knows something we don't lol. These two are both questioning the match also but when they have the first real conversation it clicked. These two have some ups and downs and they also have a few big fights. These two do eventually get it right and rock it.

What a fun and entertaining read. Excellent book for the first in series. Her brother is on a hockey team and she is the PR person. Mr. Matchmaker is a service that has had great success in matching couples. This other player is just that a player. He gets matched up with her. She can't stand him but has to make the teams along with his reputation and standing in the community better. They get together but have problems with both themselves and her brother. I recommend it. I reviewed a copy of this for booksprout.
