One trip down the stairs, caused by a lone Lego, while wrapped in a towel, spewing a plethora of profanities, and my cell phone went flying.
I landed on my ass, and then the ER.
Between those two occurrences was a FaceTime call, placed by a bouncing phone, to the number of a man I didn’t even truly look at, who had now seen more of my body than anyone had since my Tinder days, over a year ago.
Three declined calls later, I limped out the door to get myself to the ER before starting my hectic day.
The ER was packed, but when I saw Nurse Bridget, one of my students’ mothers, I pleaded my case and she hurried me into an examination room.
An hour later, I left on crutches with a bruised ass, a fractured ankle, and an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon at four p.m.
Arriving fifteen minutes late for that appointment, I heard the sexy yet very brash accent of a man who clearly had an obsession with punctuality and, apparently, no bedside manner.
Dr. Ethan Stewart, tall, copper-haired, sinfully sexy … was a total ass.
After a tongue-lashing about how irresponsible I was to, first, leave the ER with such an injury, and second, be late, I put him in his place … or so I thought.
Turned off by his arrogant attitude, turned on by the roguish glint in his green eyes and the way he spoke, I left his office a hot … and wet mess.
Upon exiting, my phone rang again. It was the same number from before, and I couldn’t help answering to give the caller a piece of my mind.
Once in my car, I hung up, tossed my phone on the passenger seat, and then looked out the window to see him with his phone to his ear and a grin spread across his far too handsome face.
It couldn’t be …
Could it?

Loved it, loved it, laughed-out-loud loved it!!

I'm going to admit that I've never watched the Outlander (not that I don't understand references or know the premise), but after reading this book I am now placing that show high up on my to be watched list!!!

Ethan James Stewart is the hottest Scot I've ever read, hands down. Growly, grouchy, caring, alpha, big, and loving...oh, I need that accented man in my life.

Add in Elizabeth is also quirky, outspoken, bumbling, and completely heartfelt and loving. I was feeling a major girl crush on her too!

These two together were reading gold. Moments of  pure happiness where I was laughing one moment and then some tears came leaking out of my face the next, but not long after I was laughing once again. Those are the absolute best moments when reading. Well, also when you add in the Scottish accent, and yes I seriously read the accented voice in my head and it's soooooo dreamy, I really need to visit Scotland. Anyway, add in that Ethan is a cocky doc and Elizabeth is a quicky patient and top it all off that they are new neighbors, this book is a must read!

I think the fact I’m married to a Scotsman completely turned me off this story. Ethan is this brash, annoying character who has a completely over the top Scottish accent and I just cringed every time he spoke. I totally understand the obsession with Jamie Fraser because I’m an Outlander fan myself, but I just felt the likeness to him could’ve been toned down a little.

"I'm a surgeon, a bone man, Ms. Bloom. If I can't fix it, I nail it or screw it."

4.5 stars!

This book surprised the hell out of me in the best way. The first 30% I found to be somewhat silly; the heroine's voice is a bit ridiculous and scatterbrained, while the hero came off as an overbearing jackass. However as the story continues to progress, the tension between Ethan and Elizabeth builds in a delicious way, while their personalities develop into something deeper. I began to see Lizze's belief in magic as endearing, and I found myself entranced by Ethan's Scottish brogue and domineering ways more and more. There were plenty of Outlander references to keep Jamie lovers entertained, and the ending left me absolutely taken with Ethan's sweeter side and hoping Lizzie could overcome her reservations over his half-truths. Overall, I ended up loving this book more than I expected, and I am so glad I signed up for this ARC! I'll leave you with an Outlander quote:
No wonder Jamie and Claire fucked nonstop. It wasn't just lust and passion; it's seriously cold in this country.

My Dr. Ethan James Stewart, even though he only wore a kilt once, it's a good enough excuse to use this pic...

At first, Scandalous Scotsman had me hooked. I wasn’t crazy about it, but I was certainly hooked. Unfortunately, by the end, my rating had dropped from a three-star rating to a two-star rating.

My biggest problem with this one is that it was too over the top with the Scottish element. In fact, it had me rolling my eyes because it reminded me far too much of a friend I regularly want to slap around the back of the head. You see, my issue with my friend is that whenever he meets someone new, he makes his Scottish accent a million times heavier than it is. He makes it so thick that people cannot understand him. When you get him alone, this over the top accent disappears. Yes, he’s still Scottish. Yes, he continues to use Scottish slang. However, it’s not the stereotype that Outlander has everyone expecting. I cringe whenever he does this, as it makes him look like a complete idiot when he forgets he’s been playing this role with people and the excessive accent disappears.

I felt like our male lead in this one was doing what my friend does, only he was better at remembering to keep the stereotype up. Mostly, at least. There were certain times where he used slang that felt forced, then there where times that he said things that didn’t feel Scottish at all. It just distracted from what was a gripping story. Add in the detail about where he grew up, and I found myself shaking my head because it was the part of Scotland where such a stereotype is least likely to be found.

When I managed to force myself not to be distracted by this – I still was, but I managed overlook it for the most part – the story hooked me. I powered through it in no time, addicted to all that was playing out. As much as I enjoyed it, I felt like things were too rushed at the end. I wanted a bit more depth from it, and that’s why my rating dropped – I feel like things came together too quickly, and I expected a bit more from it.

All in all, this one had the potential to be amazing, but it didn’t quite wow me in the way it could have. I’m sure the fact I was distracted by the over the top stereotypes of Scotland played a large part in this – after all, living in Scotland will make me aware of all of this – and I doubt others will feel this way.

Good safe read.

I really enjoyed this story. It was pretty safe, there is a”dead ex” but it’s handled pretty well. The hero states he was never in love with her, just tried to work things out for the baby. Dead ex’s are never my jam, but this didn’t bother me. Anyway I enjoyed this story. It was a quick read. Slight age gap, though ages aren’t really specified. Somewhere he says he is 11 years older than her, but it was just casually mentioned.

It had potential but I don't know, somehow it was just ok... Way too many dead people for my liking. Lizzie & Ethan was a nice couple but overall it wasn't as exciting as I expected it to be.

A fast read, one more connection to the original inspiration, British Bedmate. Fun to once again see Simon and Bridget. I Loved the cocky Scottish Dr., his accent made this book even more fun. The quirky art teacher was a hoot and kept him on his toes. Together they made some serious 'magic', pun intended! If you've had the pleasure of reading this, you'll know what I mean! Crazy times, sweet ones too.

A single dad-and a hot one at that, gets me every time. Separated for years by circumstances he had no control over, his sweet 10 year old daughter was in need of some loving- a new home, new school and a man would would give anything to be the best father to her...well, she got all the love she needed! Low drama, steamy and hot, a satisfying HEA, what more could I ask for on a cold and snowy night??? Nothing!

I am stuck in middle of the road syndrome with this book. There are aspects that I enjoyed and quite a few I did not. Overall, I can say with certainty that I did not not like the story, but so much was #twitchy *sigh*

Okay, so the story was fun and flirty but a good chunk of it made no sense to me or I couldn’t wrap my head around why it was part of the story or what the end game was to certain plot points. The Scottish accent was way over the top and it made me cringe every time Ethan had something to say. It was thicker than potato soup and I still don’t get the point of making it so in your face. I’m not a huge fan of plot points being part of a story that have no relevance to the overall plot of the romance journey so while I found the story to be fun and flirty, it was also very superficial and lacked depth. So not one of my favorites *shrug*

You know.. I love accents - like adore them - but this one just didn't do it for me. Which makes me kind of sad and disappointed because how can Scotsman just turn me off and bored? Maybe it was just the whole cast of characters that narrated this book for me.. or I don't really know. My lack of coffee this morning? Whatever it is.. I don't want to feel this way ever again.

That being said, Scandalous Scotsman was an okay read. Not my favorite from this series but it wasn't completely horrible either. I will admit that the characters did tend to annoy me throughout the book. Whether they were being stubborn or just plain annoying.

Other than that, the romance was okay. Cute but okay. Didn't really give me tingles or anything. It was just there to be honest. I'm hoping that I enjoy the next book of this series.

An Outlander obsessed fan meets an jerk of a doctor who may just be the one for her in this standalone from Fields.
Elizabeth'Lizzie' is having a bad start to summer. Finally got her first classroom and she but she has a series of events that leads her to met Dr Ethan James Stewart who instantly rubs her the wrong way.

Despite this obvious tension between these two that only seems to get worse but the banter they are having, reveals a growing sexual tension that quite can't seem to go away. As the two unpack themselves across the pages, we start to get a real sense of these two. Lizzie is diehard Outlander fan who believes that magic can solve anything and it does in this novel. Ethan takes some convincing to see the 'magic' and reveal his full story. It's a story that grew on me and made enjoy by the end to an extent the Scottish elements that was weaved into the story.

This story obviously has to be a bit over top on purpose as who names their character Elizabeth Bloom and have such a strong accent hero after being in the USA for a number of years. Aside from that humour, there is a sweet story that takes up the second half of the novel that really touched my heart. This is the redeeming factor of this book, if you can see past the first half of the novel. It's when the characters truly let their hair down and seize the moment. And get too comfortable with each other

If you are looking for a laugh out loud read look no further than the Scandalous Scotsman (Cocky Hero Club) by MJ Fields. First up let me say I have not watched Outlander so some of references went straight over my head but that didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy every bit of this book, it was just what I needed with the World going through this pandemic because it’s a book to escape with.
Ethan James Stewart is one hot male, he knows what he wants and he normally gets it, he is hot, grumpy and he growls a lot but all that adds to his charm.
Elizabeth is the girl we would all love to have as our best friend, she is loving, caring, a bit clumsy and totally outspoken but her heart is in the right place so when she finds herself under the care of the Doctor with the sexy voice who ordering her around she bumbles and stumbles even more than usual.
This book ticked all my boxes. I laughed, I shed a tear and I was left smiling like a Cheshire Cat which in my book means I have just read a great story. A hot doctor and a quirky patient, what more could you ask for. Great addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

Fields has a naughty sense of humor and that makes for captivating storytelling. Scandalous is drowning in heat and saturated with humor. Ethan is not always likable, but his penchant of unpredictable brashness definitely makes him unforgettable. Elizabeth is a little bit awkward that makes more than a bit relatable. Though not necessarily a perfect match in my opinion there is definitely chemistry there.

This was a DNF at 25% for me. I originally bought this book because the cover is hot as hell. Unfortunately the heroine of the story is so damn immature and obnoxious I cannot read any more of her POV. The hero is a Scottish doctor and while I understand that he’s going to have an accent, the way that the author wrote it, it was just too much. It was silly and ridiculous. 😬

It has been a long time since I dove into a MJ Fields book. Scandalous Scotsmen was a great read!! Ethan & Elizabeth have some intense chemistry from the very first meeting. Elizabeth pushes Ethan’s buttons and he tries to resist. How long can he hold off?

This book was steamy and funny! Lizzie is having a bad day and has one accident after another. She goes to the hospital where she is treated by scotsman Ethan. Ethan is a single dad who feels an instant connection to Lizzie though both try to fight it. I loved Lizzie's heart and the type of teacher she is. Ethan was possessive and snarky, but loves fiercely and can have sweet moments. I enjoyed this book by MJ Fields and think it's a great addition to the Cocky Hero Club of books!

I freaking loved this one!!
I need more of these! So let the recommendations come my way!!

It's hilarious but has serious topics and heartache as well, it is well balanced so it isn't top much.

For me this is a high 5 stars which I find difficult to give at times.

I am not sure if it was the author, the blurb, or the cover that made me instantly want to read this but holy hell am I glad that I did because it was PERFECT. I have a thing for accents, especially, Scottish ones. It is probably why when I was in Europe that out of all the countries that I visited, and there were a lot, Scotland was my favorite.

I am a little jealous that Lizzie got to find out for herself about what truly is under a Scotsman's kilt because that was something I didn't find out when I was there. Lizzie cracked me up in this story, her inner thoughts had me busting up so many times. Ethan, sweet Lord almighty, this delicious man, grumpy until he wasn't and oh so endearing. His love for a sweet little girl named Kai was amazing. Add in some poignant magic times between Lizzie and Kai, some heartwarming texts that take on new meaning, and some wonderful friends and this book had me falling in love.

There were some parts that I wish had further clarification, Kai's grandparents in particular. I just felt that it should have been fleshed out a tad more because I would think that Ethan trumps Kai in hierarchy or the law. Regardless, this book was a FANTASTIC addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

So this is my first Scottish book and it took me a bit to really get the wording and how Ethan talked. Overall I really enjoyed this one. I liked that he was her doctor but then they kept running into each other everywhere it seemed. I absolutely adored his daughter and I just knew Lizzie was going to be perfect for Kai and helping her out of her shell. Love reading books about single fathers and Ethan was an amazing father and I loved that he didn't stop trying to get custody of Kai. She really needed him.

This book was very low on the drama scale which I enjoyed. The little bit of drama there was, didn't last long and it was cleared up pretty quickly.

Oh my stars! I think that Scandalous Scotsman is by far one of my favorite books that is part of this Cocky Hero Club. MJ Fields hits it out of the park with this stunning story of a bruised rump, a brash Scotsman and a flighty but endearing teacher. I think what I loved about this story is the over the top moments. I giggled, I swooned, and I wanted to yell at Ethan. But Elizabeth is so relatable. I loved the connection she has with a certain little one. Magic is the answer for everything and there is just some kind of magic in this story that had me devouring it. I loved the dominating way that Ethan was when it came to Lizzie. But how she worked her way under his skin without even trying was beautiful. I honestly devoured this one and when I got to the end, I wanted more. SO much more! This is a great addition to this world!

4.5 stars rounded up

MJ Fields is a new-to-me author and Scandalous Scotsman had me laughing so hard I got teary-eyed and then feeling so hard I got more teary-eyed. There was a twist I didn't see coming at all that I felt added more to their story too, which I love. The book is told in first person, dual POV. Neither are virgins, it's been years for the h (who's divorced) and I don't remember if it's said for the H. No om drama. There's a very slight ow drama scene but it's not what it seems and the H isn't interested, it didn't bother me. The H does have a j/p scene that ends up being hilarious because of the circumstances and at the end he

The H is a doctor and the h is a teacher/waitress who becomes one of his patients. There's instant attraction that takes some time to develop into a relationship. Lots of banter especially since the H is a bit of an ass at times. I would absolutely be the h's friend, I loved her so much, and the H is a great guy at heart, just with a bit of a prickly personality at times. There's a lot of humor, sometimes involving second-hand embarrassment, great steamy times, and a bucket-load of feels later in the story. Both main characters also have fantastic friends that add to the humor and support them, esp when they're being ridiculous. The H is also a single dad and the story surrounding his daughter is a really emotional one and involved custody issues with the maternal grandparents (the mother is dead but they weren't in love so no pining for a lost love). His daughter stole the scenes she was in too.

I didn't love this author's writing style personally, but the characters and their development kept me invested in the book. Some reviewers have mentioned hating the Scottish accent being emphasized for the H and this didn't bother me at all, I blame the excessive number of Highlander romances I used to read and how their accents were written. The book ends with a HEA and there were a few time jump epilogues, ending with a really sweet one.

Nothing like a Scottish man who has alpha stamped all over him, is a doctor and an adorable daughter to boot! Lizzie has a small (and absolutely hilarious) incident which results in her meeting the devastatingly gorgeous doctor Dr. Ethan Stewart. He’s quite rude and definitely needs a bed side manor class but that doesn’t stop the attraction. Lizzie and Ethan have great banter and intense chemistry.

Amazing!!!
OMG!!! I love Lizzie and Ethans story. I swooned over Ethan and his accent just like Lizzie. And I laughed at her expense. You will love Kai. She is so dang cute. The way she interacted with Lizzie was heart melting. I read this book so fast because I needed to know what was going to happen next. Oh my is this a must read. This is the first book I've read by MJ Fields and I LOVED IT!!
