For Cain Kent, that rule is golden. Losing is not in his vocabulary, and up until now, everything has come easy. Football, school, girls ... his charm-laced ego may just be bigger than Texas itself.
The competition he started freshman year with his friends, to make ten notches each in their bedposts by graduation day, is practically in the bag. One more to go, and then it's off to college fame and eventually, the big time. Attachments aren't something he wants to form, but when the quiet new girl challenges him in front of his classmates, his curiosity is piqued. She would be the perfect final score, and what fun to break her in the process.
Too bad Harper Posy has no intention of being just another warm body, especially to the bad boy quarterback. Even if he does quote Forster and Huxley when no one is listening. An aspiring author herself, Cain and his hidden soft side are dangerous to her heart. She's seen men ruin her mother's dreams time and again, and she's determined to fly far away as soon as she has that diploma in her fist.
But as the school year’s end looms closer, both realize they didn’t quite understand the rules to begin with. Is winning a dirty bet worth the gamble when the stakes, or the other’s heart in this case, are so high?
Harper is the one girl who isn't up for playing games. And she just might make Cain lose. Everything.
Author of romance novels such as Fleeting and Love at First Fight, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. Her stories are fueled by vanilla lattes, meloncholy music, and copious amounts of candles.
When she isn't writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in farm country with her husband, two children and ninety-pound rescue pup.
I loved this YA football romance! My first book by Carrie Aarons and I absolutely fell in love with her style of writing. This was a sweet, sexy story of first love with just enough high school drama and angst to keep it entertaining.
Cain is that bad boy Harper knows she shouldn't fall for. He is the star quarterback, a god in their small town of Haven, Texas and he certainly doesn't do relationships or commitments. When he seeks out Harper, it starts out as just another conquest for him. So it kind of throws him off when emotions get in the way and he starts to care about her feelings more than getting into her pants. Not gonna lie, even from the start I loved Cain despite what a jerk he was in the beginning. He was cocky, sexy and just oozed that southern charm that was hard to resist.
I loved that Harper was a mature teenager that didn't fall at the feet of Cain like every other girl. She had a good head on her shoulders and she made Cain work for her attention. She realizes soon there are many hidden layers to Cain like their shared love of reading. He's really a hurt little boy acting out and she discovers a side of him that others don't get to see.
This had all the sweetness and innocence of a young romance that I love about YA but it was also really sexy as well and borders into NA territory. I also need to mention the sports aspect of this book. Now, I don't like football. That's right, I don't watch it and I have zero interest in the game. However for some reason I love football in romance books and this is one of my favorites! I might not understand the rules of the game but I understand heart and passion and during the game time scenes, I felt Cain's love for the this game in my bones. When you get me to excited about this sport, then you know this author did an amazing job and I thought it complemented this love story so well. This is a definite recommendation from me!
4 Stars Young Adult Romance Heat Level: Mild to Moderate POV: Dual HEA
I have been a fan of Carrie Aarons since her Privileged series. There is something about the way she writes her mean boys that I love. She gets the Enemies to Lovers chemistry and banter right but it has that something extra to leave its mark on you. This novel was absolutely delicious and I was obsessed with every word!
Gahh!! I seriously LOVED Harper and Cain. The sassy, independent, new girl and the boy who has the world falling at his feet. I loved their banter and the way Harper gave it to Cain so well. She gave as good as she got and was the only girl who could bring him to his knees. This storyline is my absolute favorite. Mean boy meets Good girl and then we sit back and see the fireworks explode. I loved the premise of the bet and how horrible Cain was at first. It was explosive, fiery and insanely hot!!
Ultimately, I loved how Harper became Cain's exception and how in the end how their connection set them apart. This story was utterly romantic and swoony with the edge that I need. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Few things get me more excited to read a story than a bad boy football player. And sure enough, Cain and Harper started sparking up my Kindle from the very beginning. I loved her sass and backbone. I loved that Cain's alpha-hole ways found no purchase against Harper's feisty spirit. These two gave such good banter, I was hooked from the start!
It lost a little steam for me along the way however. I felt like, for as spirited and rational as Harper was, I expected more resistance from her. I had several eyebrow raised moments where I questioned whether her decisions were true to her character. I also felt like Cain was often just the wrong side of "too mean" for me, and I was missing some soft underbelly that helps me digest all that meanness. I'm picky about my mean boys though - there's basically a very fine line to getting it just right - and The Tenth Girl missed the mark for me just a bit.
That said, the ending was completely satisfying and I definitely have an appreciation for the romanticness of being the "exception". The banter alone made this worth the read. If you like your mature YA full of drama, your bad boys extra bad and your good girls full of snark - this will absolutely appeal! ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars
“ «I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.» I quoted Great Expectations to her.” Cain
Carrie Aarons gives readers a really good enemies to lovers NA romance with The Tenth Girl.
Cain and Harper meet in the most unexpected way on her first day at her new school. Things only seem to go from bad to worse from there. But Cain isn't going to let a little something like Harper's dislike of him deter him from pursuing her. He has a bet going with his friends. Get into ten girls pants by graduation. He only has one girl left to bag and he now has his sights set on Harper. But when plotting and planning to win turns into talking and getting to know each other along with feelings getting thrown into the mix, Cain realizes Harper might cause him to lose more than just a bet.
Cain started out pretty dis-likeable in this story. Some of the things that came out of his mouth in the beginning were cringe worthy in fact. And most of his actions were just as bad. But it makes his fall all the more enjoyable. By the end of the book he was complete and total book boyfriend material.
Harper was a steady kind of character. She had a strong personality and she didn't have to go through any monumental changes to be a pleasure to read about. She knew what she wanted from life and didn't let anything get in the way with that.
I love the way Carrie Aarons wrote the shift of their relationship and all the twists that came along with these two finding their way together. This was a really good story and one that I would recommend to fellow NA romance fans.
It's high school and the head jock also happens to be the school's resident bad boy. He's handsome, he plays football, he and his buddies throw all the greatest ragers, and he has no respect for women. He's Cain Kent and he can get away with anything, even winning the four year, ten women bet he has with his friends. No will hold it against him, except maybe the new girl Harper Posy, the one he sets his sights on to be the final girl.
""From the moment I saw her, I knew she would be my final mark. If only Harper Posy had been that simple. If only Harper Posy had been that easy."
Harper Posy is in school for one thing, to learn. Moving to Texas from Florida her senior year wasn't exactly in her plans, but neither was riling up the jock of the school or finding him attractive. Used to being a loner, senior year in Haven is a totally new experience for the shy, pale girl. She finds friends, gets the best ideas for her debut novel, and finds herself charmed by Cain Kent. unbeknownst to her though, Cain may be a secret nerd who seems to really care for her, but he still has a reputation to uphold.
"Primal. Pure satisfaction. Dirty secrets in the stairwell of a school."
Oh Cain Kent, what a classic NA hero, a perfect combo of arrogant bad boy and cocky jock. His perspective reflects his upbringing with an absentee mother, a career driven father, and grandparents unable to provide the dedicated care in their older age. He's raised himself, followed a moral compass that only a jock with no rules could ever dream of. And Harper Posy? She stood no chance against him. She's innocent, beautiful, and bookish smart. Her life experience in the Keys taught her to avoid drugs and alcohol, it never told her what to do when the handsome boy quotes poetry and is patient in his wooing. Told from their dual points of view, The Tenth Girl tells the story of a senior year filled with life lessons and the kind of teen love that can make or break you. It's an authentic new adult romance, with homework, secret parties, and great declarations of romance.
"Green, the color of glittering stones. They contain every single bad, dirty wish that takes a good girl down. That can get her on her back, out of her clothes."
I love a good high school aged romance, the kind that takes me back and has me falling in love just like the characters. Carrie Aarons' newest release, The Tenth Girl, is a classic new adult book and I loved the characters she created for this story. Each is independent, something that is refreshing when it comes to the age group, and each is smart. Sure, they're a bit stereotypical, but that allows for the character growth that takes place through out the novel. Cain and Harper mature as individuals even while they are growing together. I really enjoyed watching Cain fall for Harper, because we knew she was a goner before she even knew his name. There were serious topics mixed in with the sweet and fluffy, giving the book the true teen romance vibe. Finally, I LOVED that Harper remained determined even in the face of heartache, she could hurt and still chase success. And I really appreciated that Cain saw that headstrong quality and her drive for success as a good thing, hallelujah. He couldn't fall for any of those others girls, these two were just meant to challenge one another.
"I had told myself that I wasn't going to let Cain Kent get to me. But really, I never stood a chance."
The Tenth Girl was an enjoyable, sweet read with just the right amount of high school angst. I loved Cain and Harper, the secondary characters were excellent, and the story and setting was totally believable. This novel takes you on a whirlwind romance journey that is relatable, smart, and classic without giving in to too many tropes. That said, I would not categorize this as a YA, it definitely falls more in the NA genre due to some of the topics in the novel. I think teen, young adult, and new aged readers who enjoy more mature topics will love it though.
The Tenth Girl was one of those YA books that I didn't know I needed. I dove into it when I was really struggling with this ARC I had received. In it, you will meet Cain and Harper. These two were adorable from the beginning and it was so cute to watch the grinch player's heart growing in size.
So Cain stupidly makes a bet with some of the guys on the football team during freshmen year. Or maybe it was before that?? Anyhoo, they all bet to sleep with ten girls before graduating. You'd think that would be easier said than done.. but I guess now. They also get extra points for sleeping with a virgin. Sounds like a drinking game, right??
Well, enter Harper. She's kind of like Cain's kryptonite. They had cute little banters.. and some sexual tension that people could smell miles away. It definitely turned into something a bit more.. and then he fell for her. WELL, they fell for each other. It was adorable, slow yet fast, and cute overall.
Of course he didn't plan for these feelings and was thinking of bowing out of that game. It doesn't help that Harper overheard this little betting game from his friends on the team. Then there's a great deal of drama coming left and right towards these two.
Overall, it was a pretty cute book. I really enjoyed getting to meet these characters and I fell in love with them instantly. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
"Life is about mistakes. It's how we correct them that matters."
This book can be pretty much summed up by that quote.
The Tenth Girl has the plot of books and movies that I have read before. But it's the characters and the writing that makes me really enjoy this story and Carrie's take on the idea of "boy makes stupid bet, falls in love and possibly loses girl."
Cain is the star quarterback in his senior year, prepping to go to the most best college he can for football. Harper is the new girl at school after she and her mom move back to Texas for her senior of high school. Harper becomes Cain's next target, but what ensues is nothing either expected.
I love that Harper maybe innocent in some aspects, she has a good head on her shoulders and doesn't always fall right into the "stupid girl" daze. Cain has his douchebag moments, but I like that Carrie paints him a different light than most books too. He has the jock vibe, but he's not a complete dick either.
"I am what you designed me to be. I am your blade. You cannot now complain if you also feel the hurt."
Harper and Cain are fairly mature for their age with certain aspects, but sometimes do act a bit childish in their actions at times. As with all teenage love, they don't talk things through and the need to create more drama than necessary is added in, but I think it helps add to the overall vibe of this story.
There is a lot to this story that I enjoyed reading and found entertaining because it just added more to the book. The cliché secondary characters, the parties, the nastiness coming from the school's queen bee - I love these additions in this book - without it, the YA vibe would have been lost and felt too mature for kids still trying to figure out what the hell they are doing in life.
If you are in the mood for an easy and entertaining read - I highly recommend this one.
There is something about Carrie Aaron books that keep me reading. The way she writes these characters and tells a story never fails to hook me. However, I am so torn and have so many thoughts on this one.
While I did get some entertainment out reading this one, I have to admit that I did struggle with it. Like for real struggled. Guys, I really did have to power through the beginning here. Lets be honest. If I would have stopped reading, it would have had everything to do with Cain.
Cain was such a fuckboy and he stayed that way for quite a while. His inner commentary was quite terrible and stereotypical at times. He was the town’s jock and football star and boy did he know it! He was a manwhore and had a terrible perspective on women that didn’t really change until more than halfway into the book.
For the most part, I did like Harper. She knew that she wanted to save her virginity for something/ someone special and she did stick to her guns about it. Do I wish she made Cain grovel more? Yes. However, she is also a teenager. High school me took back some boyfriends who done shitty things and I don’t think that made me less than a person. It made you a teenager learning about relationships.
I can’t even lie and say that I didn’t enjoy the banter and the back and forth between them. The tension was honestly what kept me reading. The "will they or when they" aspect was very entertaining. Once Cain started realizing that he was falling for Harper? I knew I was in for the long haul. She seriously gave us a love interest who quotes classic literature. How was I supposed to resist that?
There are a few other things I wanted to say. I did find this to be predictable. You know from the synopsis that there is a bet. You also know that she was going to find out. Also, even though they are in high school, I consider this to be New Adult. WAY too much sexual content to be considered just YA. Well, in my opinion.
Like I said before, I have mixed signals on this one. While it was entertaining it was also predictable and had a manwhore love interest.
Cain is quite the playboy. He is a senior, popular and good looking. His only priorities being football and trying to bag more girls than his buddies. Harper is the new girl in school. She is feisty, mature and smart; always reading and working on her novel. She is also sweet, innocent and a bit of a romantic; saving herself for true love. From the moment I started reading this book, I was totally sucked into their story, anxious to see how it all played out.
The Tenth Girl is a great read, from start to finish. Told from dual points of view, this story is very well written and paced just right. It is the absolute perfect book to spend your afternoon getting lost in. I loved the banter. I loved the chemistry. I loved the angst and the drama. There will be moments where you will be frustrated and angry. There will be moments where your heart will be full. Then there will be moments where your heart will ache right along with Harper's. But, I promise you, the journey is so worth it. I would definitely recommend getting your hands on this book.
The only emotion I felt while reading this was annoyance. I hate it when I read the synopsis to a book and that states the h is going to put the H in his place. I’m sitting here think that the h is going to give the H hell, but it took him flirting with her one time for her to completely change her tune. She saw first hand what he was like with girls when he first met her, she was warned by her friend, and he didn’t treat her very well the first few times they talked. Despite all of this, she felt like he was a good wholesome person because he could quote books that she liked. Just because someone knows how to quote a book doesn’t mean they are not a shitty person. Plus, I felt like the writing was stilted. One second the H thinks the h is a piece to be played with, and out of no where he says he wants to be serious with her. I don’t understand and I just want to put this behind me.

I just devoured this one in a sitting. Like for serious. Two-three hours tops. Addicting. Cute. And Cain. Yum. First time reading this author but I will definitely check out more. Easy read. Enjoyed
After reading alot of small town high school stores I've romanticised them in my head, you know bad boy jock falls for the good girl. If only it had been me.
This story could so easily have turned into cheesy and predictable but it didn't. The thing that saved it was the writing and the characters. I loved Harper and Cain, on paper they shouldn't work but they just do. A story full of teenage angst and emotions which I remember very wel. This author seems to be able to turn her hand to any genre and do the subject justice.
If you're looking for a young adult book that is light and sweet, this one is perfect! It had been a while since I read YA and this book reminded me how much I enjoyed it.
Cain and Harper pulled me into their orbit real fast and I didn't want to part with them. Cain is presented as this careless jock who only cares about his football career and doesn't have time for girls besides using them and trashing them at his convenience. He and his friends have had this bet going on for the past 3 years, whoever bags 10 girls before graduation gets to own their party room for the whole summer before college. Cain only has one girl left and he wants to win with a bang, literally and figuratively. That's when there's a new girl in school, Harper Posy a girl who stands up to the king of the school without fear, a girl who catches everyone's attention without meaning to, specially Cain's and so she becomes his Tenth Girl, because she will be a challenge and he will have to work for it with her. However, Cain soon learns that there is much more to Harper behind what meets the eye and he starts being himself around her, letting her see the real him and giving her an in into all sides of his life. In the midst of that, he falls for her but just when things seem perfect, the truth comes out and Cain learns how just how not easy Harper can be.
The Tenth Girl was a very cute and fun love story, portraying all the dramas of high school and of dating a popular jock. Some of the characters are a bit annoying at times but considering this is YA and most high school kids are annoying, naive and stupid, it's pretty accurate lol. Cain is the typical man whore asshole jock but he wasn't one of those characters that I hated on sight and then came to love. No, I found him intriguing from the start and I really liked his asshole side. What can I say I like bad boys, even more so in books. But he stopped being an asshole pretty fast and I enjoyed watching him fall for Harper without even knowing it, it was fun and sweet. Harper is going through a lot of changes, with the move, forming a real relationship with her grandmother, her mom finding a new boyfriend who ends up being a good guy but comes with a shitty baggage, and then of course falling in love with Cain. And I love the fact that she is writer and when everything fell apart she put all her focus on achieving her dream instead of being all depressed.
I really enjoyed this book and these characters. It was very sweet and a super light and fluffy read that put a smile on my face.

An arrogant bad boy? Huge check. A fun and fascinating story? Check check. And football? I can't think of a more perfect combination and it's all found in The Tenth Girl by Carrie Aarons. This is my first book of hers but most certainly won't be my last. Once I started reading I only set this down a select few times for something necessary and immediately drifted back to continue on. I more than enjoyed getting to know Harper and Cain and wish like crazy their story didn't have to end.
I love that The Tenth Girl could easily take place in real life. The setting, the characters, the actual storyline itself is all so relatable that anyone could pick this up and be just as hooked as I am. Carrie Aarons gives so much more than a simple story between the bad boy and the good girl. You get honesty, friendship, and two people who clash like no tomorrow but turn out to be magnets being pulled together against all odds.
Cain Kent, football god of Haven and major playboy. But since he's worked so hard for the sport he loves, of course Cain is eating up the attention. Harper Posey, new girl to Haven and introvert with a love of books. Well on her way to becoming a published author and gaining the freedom to travel the world. Complete opposites with different end goals but somehow always finding a way to one another. For the bet or for real? You will have to read to find out.
Even though this is more tame than most books I'm reading now, I still hung on to every word and action without ever wanting to let go. I love how everyone acted mature and irrational drama didn't take place, despite the high school age. And I want to give a shout out to Grandma Posey because she was just too awesome. The giant nod to authors and self publishing was a great bonus as well. The Tenth Girl by Carrie Aarons was an all around amazing read and has given me a new author to starting swooning over her books.
Once in awhile I like to revisit the good old days -- believe me it's been a long time ago since I walked the halls in high school. And now my once in "awhiles" are found on the pages of Young Adult books. This one actually was better than the average -- except for that terrible awful horrid game the boys play with the hearts of girls. No excuses made for that! Kudos for the older crowd that played their parts in the secondary cast so well and charming, too. Always good to see the oldies but goodies crowd make a good showing.
High school drama runs high, football rules, and the hormones are off-the-chart. But this author makes it much more, too. There are lessons of life to be learned in and out of the classrooms. There are family ties -- broken hearts -- deep emotions and new love to be found. Discovering what's true and what's not, what's important and unimportant, owning your mistakes and making amends for them, and watching dreams come true.
From start to finish, I was caught up in the chaos of Haven High School and its student body!
This was so addicting. I hadn’t read a high school romance in awhile and this one WAS SOO GOOD!
Harper was such a strong headed girl. I love that she was so sweet and kind to others. Cared about her education and wanted to find love, BUT wouldn’t let anyone mess with her. Her whole vibe was just amazing!
Cain was such a jerk. He’s so cocky and entitled, but when we uncover the way he feels about Harper we see another side of him. He’s still cocky and arrogant, but he does have a good heart after all.
The whole sex competition was so messed up and I felt so bad for Harper. But their ending was what I wanted. I loved the whole Texas aesthetic. It felt homey and all.
I’m not a big fan of sports but it was interesting to see Cain in his football ways. I loved that Harper was an indie fantasy writer, it just made her character more wholesome!!
I voluntarily reviewed an early copy of this book :) this is the newest standalone story from Carrie Aarons :) I adore her writing style... it's always raw and honest... showing us flawed characters who make mistakes but learn from them... each of her books give me pretty strong opinions about them... I absolutely adore some of them... some of them I like... others I can't finish or the characters in them annoy me to no end... but that's ok, because all that means is that her books are diverse and each of us can find some they will really love :) this one was actually a surprised win for me... ;) but before I get into all the reasons why, let me share some informations about our main couple and the plot :)
Harper moves with her mom to live with her grandmother in a small town in Texas... she keeps mostly to herself, and I actually really connected to that :) I adored how focused she was on her goal of becoming an author, how hard she worked to achieve it... it was very inspiring :) and then we have Cain... the quarterback and true star of the school... she catches his attention as the "new girl" but what she doesn't know, is that he wants to make her his "tenth girl"... and unfortunately it's all part of a bet... when Cain and his freinds were at the beginning of high school, they made a bet about who will be the first to sleep with ten girls... see where I'm going with it? Harper is a challenge to him and he's determined to charm her completely... of course over time, while they get to know more about each other, things start to change... I can't say anything else because I don't want to spoil you guys about any additional details, so instead let me just jump into all my thoughts and feelings about this one :)
I gave this book 4,5 stars... which is very high for me, especially for a book with themes that I'm not the biggest fan of... let me explain :) this is a young adult novel... and I rarely read stories about such young characters... at least contemporary stories, I more often veer into fantasy genre with such heroes / heroines... because when it comes to contemporary stories... those teenagers tend to annoy me... :) I get that there are young and allowed to make mistakes and / or stupid, naive decisions... it's not like we lose that ability once we are older... but most of the time I'm all like "come on, don't do it / say it... we all know it's a mistake" ;) and there were definitely moments like that in this book as well... moments when it was hard not to roll my eyes at all the drama and angst pouring from the pages ;) but believe it or not... it was all part of the charm of this book :) I loved Harper with all her flaws, mistakes and amazing qualities... :) I had much bigger problems with Cain, because he was a total jerk for a huge part of this book... there were no real excuses for his behaviour... yes, once we get to know more about him and his family's story, we can try to understand why he acts a certain way, but still... he could give you whiplash with all the changes in his actions, depending whether he was alone with Harper or around other people... but don't get me wrong, even though there were moments when one of them, or both at the same time... ;) irritated me, in the end I think it was all necessary for the story... that's why I gave it 4,5 stars :) trust me, no one was more surprised that yours truly by how much I enjoyed this book... it had this unique addictive quality... when you see things that may irritate you or bother you, and yet you just... can't stop... reading... ;) this is definitely a book for people who love angst and teenage drama... who adore hate to love sort of situations... :) and even though in some aspects their relationship felt rushed, I really liked how Carrie finished their story :) no worries, I won't spoil you anything ;) as always, her writing style was fantastic :) that's why I always go back to her stories... even when some of them are not my thing or some of her characters annoy me, it's only because she makes them so distinctive, so even if I don't like a particular book, I know it may become someone's new favourite :) so every time she has a new release, I'm there to check it out ;) if you haven't tried her stories yet, this is a pretty good start :) but if this doesn't sound like something you enjoy, read more about her other novels, because I am sure you will find something that will catch your eye ;) pinkie promise :)
This was not one of my favorite books by Carrie Aarons, but it has nothing to do with her writing. It just isn't normal for me to read YA books.
Cain is a jock football player who thinks the world revolves around him and Harper is the new girl in town.
Cain is a dick pretty much the entire book. Not in a good way. I like Alpha Assholes but he was just a little too mean for me. He ran hot and cold and although his lack of relationships was explained, it just felt like a little too much. He annoyed me.
Harper. I was hoping she would stand her ground more.
- Was this it? Had he broken up with me? Not that we'd even had the boyfriend-girlfriend talk... but we'd been making out and going to parties together and holding hands after school and that was more than I had done with any other boy in my life. He'd even called me his girl.-
I kept having to remind myself that this was YA and that obviously the characters are a little naïve. But I was just hoping she would keep her sass. I felt like she gave in way too easily when it came to Cain.
-With every passing minute, I feel each piece of my heart turn against me, and mark itself as Cain's. In the middle of the night, while he breathes softly, I stare at his gorgeous face. and realize that I'm in love with him-
Then Cain went from just using her to spouting his love.
-What Harper and I have is the kind of love singers croon about in country songs.-
The writing was great, very Carrie Aarons, she writes amazing books, but I just felt like this one was a bit immature for me. I think my daughter would enjoy it. If she was a few years older.
Grandma Posy with her shot gun was my absolute favorite!
4.5 stars - This story might be set in high school but it's too hot to be classed as YA!
"From the moment I saw her, I knew she would be my final mark. If only Harper Posy had been that simple."
Cain Kent is the gorgeous, cocky star quarterback of his high school football team. He could have anyone he wanted without even clicking his fingers. Until he meets his match.
"That boy is like venom to my veins, paralyzing and scorching all at the same time."
Harper Posy is happy being a loner. She has big plans to travel the world and write bestselling novels. She's got no plans on giving up her v-card or her heart anytime soon. She never counted on catching the attention of the arrogant jock who's got player written all over him. She also never expected him to have such an effect on her.
"My heart beats double-time, it's such a turn-on to see her standing there in my jersey. Like I belong to her, and she belongs to me."
This was the first time I've read this author and I thought it was a fab read.
Cain was a solid, seemingly carefree jock who only had time for football, girls and parties. However, I loved that he was actually quite a deep guy, who loved his family, and really enjoyed literature. Yes, the competition he'd set was somewhat ignoble, but I really enjoyed the way he fell for Harper and the gradual change in his outlook on life because of her presence.
"With every passing minute, I feel each piece of my heart turn against me, and mark itself as Cain's"
Harper liked to be invisible and blend in but she was no wimp. I loved her sass and her guts, and her free spirit. She and Cain were sexy together mentally, as well as physically. I enjoyed how much she challenged him. I thoroughly approved of how the author dealt with their relationship - that they could plan for a future together without either of them giving up their dreams.
This was a great read about first love, life dreams, and taking chances, and I loved the literary references.
She may be the Tenth Girl but he is never going to work harder.
The premise of The Tenth Girl is every high school girl's nightmare and yet we gobble these stories up. As a hopeless romantic, it is impossible not to need this story. To need the aches, pains, and heartache because let's be real, there is always heartache!
The Tenth Girl isn't hiding a surprise plot twist and yet you can't help but get caught in "the action". My money is on the new girl, in case you were wondering. This jock has met his match in every way and the best part is that he knows it.
Enjoy The Tenth Girl be cause we both know the you always save the best for last#
I guess I should have read reviews before reading this one. Only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 was because it wasn't that bad In the beginning but once Harper started to whine a lot and show that she was much younger then I think a senior in high school, that's when it went downhill.
