Cocky Hero Club

French Wanker

Rate this book
Why couldn’t a sexy Frenchman be the way to nurse a broken heart on a honeymoon for one? The question plagued me, and part of me figured he was just what the doctor ordered!

On the steps of the Eiffel tower, the hottest man I’d ever seen referred to himself as a wanker on the phone and a surge of heat grew inside me.

And why did British slang suddenly sound like a name in my fantasies?

When Mr. Wanker shows up on my train to Italy, we make a deal that he’ll take me to Monte Carlo and then we can continue onto Rome, together.

My lonely honeymoon for one is now heating up.

And the more time I spend with my Mr. Wanker, the stronger my fantasies of tossing everything and moving to Europe play out in vivid color in my mind.

Falling in love wasn’t supposed to be a part of this vacation. Reality always ruined fairy tales…

Victoria Pinder grew up in Irish Catholic Boston before moving to the Miami sun. She’s worked in engineering, after passing many tests proving how easy Math came to her. Then hating her life at the age of twenty four, she decided to go to law school. Four years later, after passing the bar and practicing very little, she realized that she hates the practice of law. She refused to one day turn 50 and realize she had nothing but her career and hours at a desk. After realizing she needed change, she became a high school teacher. Teaching is rewarding, but writing is a passion.
During all this time, she always wrote stories to entertain herself or calm down. Her parents are practical minded people demanding a job, and Victoria spent too many years living other people’s dreams, but when she sat down to see what skill she had that matched what she enjoyed doing, writing became so obvious. The middle school year book when someone wrote in it that one day she’d be a writer made sense when she turned thirty.
Besides her full time job of teaching, in 2013 and 2014, she sold on her own sold books to three different publishers. The Zoastra Affair, Chaperoning Paris, Borrowing the Doctor, and Electing Love will be published from Soul mate Publishing. Mything the Throne will be published with Double Dragon Ebooks. Favorite Coffee, Favorite Crush will be published with Jupiter Press.
Now she is represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency and she hopes to continue selling her novels that she writes. Moving up to the next level from hard work and determination is rewarding, and partnerships bring new opportunities.
Also she’s the Vice President of Progams for the Florida Romance Writers. She’s gone to multiple conferences and intends to continue. She learns and meets so many people at conferences. Her website is here, www.victoriapinder.com, and she’ll continue to grow my web presence. She is working hard on other projects and found the time to plan her wedding this year.
Before writing, her father had taken her to many star trek conventions and on her own she grew up as the only girl in the 90s at the comic book store. Science Fiction was her first love, but contemporary romance was her second. She’s sticking with contemporaries for the near future.

Okay, I’m marking the book as *read* but to be completely honest, I skimmed a lot of this book. It started fairly early for me when our hero asks our heroine if he can buy her a drink and her answer is “Depends on how you kiss, I guess.”
*sigh*
I mean ... C’mon! Adults don’t do that.
And it went downhill from there. I did skim the book so I do have the gist of the story but again, even what I did read was seriously first draft material. There’s a good story in here somewhere, but not what I got ... Sidenote: can we chat about the title of the book and the fact that wanker was used 49 times in the book? No? Too much? Okay .... I’ll be quiet now *sigh*

Uh, not my favorite out of the series.

French Wanker started off on a weird note for me. As someone who has been to Paris.. I just didn't think the accent was French enough? Not sure if that's a diss to the narrator or not, so super sorry if it is! To be honest it was a mixture of British with a dash of French? Again, not sure if that makes sense but that's what I'm going with.

Besides the accents, you get to meet Quentin and Kara. He is a doctor who has decided to leave his practice and dive into something else rather suddenly. Whereas she is taking the honeymoon she would've taken if she had gotten married to Marco, who is a douche. They both have somewhat of a past and they needed to heal in some way. So that obviously means they need to share a kiss or two, right?

Sure. Things start to feel a insta-y to me and it just wasn't working. They had cute moments but I just felt like things were way too rushed. Especially the ending, when she was randomly given this huge job just because they were going to get married. She knew nothing about it.. but hey, she's the new fiancé who cares.

Plus, it also had it's boring moments in between. In the end, it was an okay but boring book.

Kara has decided to go on her honeymoon on her own after her husband to be Marco cancelled there wedding and she had to deal with returning all the gifts, now she was in Paris and she intended to enjoy herself. Quentin is a doctor and now he is giving up his practice to work for his father. When Kara was in Paris she kissed a stranger not knowing the effect that it would have on both of there lives. Wow i loved this book so much it made me laugh and it made me sad but i could not put it down or turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. Victoria Pinder is an amazing author and writer and i have read all her books and i love them so much. I definitly recommend you read this book and others by her and you will not be disappointed.

This is a new to me author and what a great introduction to her stories.

When Kara finds herself on her honeymoon by herself the last thing she expects to find is love. In Paris she meets Quentin and her life’s about to change. The chemistry between these two is hot. Can they both move on from their pasts and find something together.

Great read-thoroughly enjoyed it.

French Wanker is another of those cases where it’s me, not the book. I’m sure some will enjoy this, but it wasn’t for me.

The main reason I couldn’t get into this one is because it was a case of instalove, and it’s something I’m not a fan of. I much prefer slow burn, and instalove is something I tend to avoid. With the characters falling in deep so quickly, I found it difficult to get into the story.

I’m sure this will work for some, but it wasn’t for me.

This was a light-hearted romance between two persons meeting at the Eiffel Tower: Kara, in Paris to experience her aborted honeymoon on her own and Quintin, leaving his home town after selling his physician practice. One might reject the idea of a one night stand to console a jilted bride and a brooding Frenchman, but fate has them meet on the train to Monte Carlo and moreover pulls a train strike after they've left town. This has them flirting and agreeing to a second night together. You will enjoy their insta-love story. Doesn't mean there aren't wicked confrontations and heavy decisions to be made. I really enjoyed reading about emergency and changing tactics, too, and welcoming the HEA ending! Recommended!

Bring your sense of humor and don't forget your heart. Quentin and Kara aren't always easy to like, but they take emotions on quite a ride. Pinder throws caution to the wind with French Wanker. An unpredictable escapade.

New to me author.

With this title and it being part of the Cocky Hero club, I was excited to read what I thought would be an uber alpha male with French traits.
Sorry to say I was disappointed, he was not cocky or bossy like the other males in this series.

A few things were also far fetched for me which I won’t spoil.
I think the author missed the mark of what this series is supposed to be.

3.5 Star Review French Wanker by Victoria Pinder

Victoria Pinder is a new author to me. I am enjoying finding all these new authors through The Cocky Hero Club.

I struggled with this book a little and had a hard time connecting to Quentin and Kara. Although this book was not as enjoyable as others I have read in this series, that doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy it.

This is an insta love story set in France with chemistry and some drama. Can Quentin and Kara overcome their pasts and together forge a path to love and happiness?

When Kara’s fiancé cancelled their wedding, she decided to enjoy the honeymoon she planned. While in Paris, she meets Quentin and they share a steamy kiss, but since they are both leaving Paris and never expected to see each other again.

Quentin has endured two tragedies in his life, and he blames himself for both of them. He is leaving his life and career as a doctor in Paris behind and returning to his family’s vineyard to escape the painful memories.

When fate brings them together they decide to spend the rest of her vacation together but will they be able to help each other heal from their pasts so that they can have a future together or is a fling all they will ever have?

I thought Kara was bold to go on her honeymoon by herself. I was glad to see that she stepped outside of her comfort zone while she was in Paris. (I couldn’t stand her ex.) Of course that is how she was able to meet the handsome Quentin. You couldn’t help but fall in love with him! I felt bad that he let his ghosts from the past and the present think he wasn’t a good man. It is funny how we get something in our head and can’t let it go. I enjoyed the adventure the two went on. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

That was not the word you were looking for

What you need to know about French Wanker:
✔ Insta-love romance
✔ Complete stand-alone
✔ Jilted bride on her European Honeymoon Trip
✔ Sexy French/British Doctor
✔ If you loved British Bedmate by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, you will get to see more of Bridget and Simon.

The first thing that struck me about this book was a fairly big problem. “Wanker” in British slang is defined as this: 1. Someone who masturbates, 2. a contemptible person (used as a general term of abuse) and variations of this. Never is it defined as it is in the book, that is as Quentin tells Kara: a slang term for “penis”. So that’s a fairly glaring error. It makes Kara referring to Quentin as “Wanker” and “Mr. Wanker” and Quentin referring to his ‘member’ as “wanker `` just laughable, then irritating. It’s mind boggling really. How did this happen?

When I first heard the title of the book I thought that it was going to be about some French alpha jerk because of the term but no, Quentin is a sympathetic figure. He’s a doctor who feels responsible for the death of his fiance (and his brother - he carries many burdens).

The tone of the book is, let’s say, varied. He’s brooding about his fiance’s death and Kara the jilted bride is feeling rather frisky and referring to him as “Wanker”. “Quentin was a cute name though he’d forever be my wanker.” Quentin asks Kara about her wine: “How does it taste to you?” Kara: “Yes.”

It’s comedic at points and then tense and brooding, then angst-filled, I will just say, it was not for me. The “wanker” thing threw me off and I could not enjoy the book. I had high hopes. There’s a road trip. There are scenes in a vineyard and in Monte Carlo. No blurb or description was provided.

WRITING STYLE: 2/5
PLOT: 2/5
WORLD-BUILDING: 2/5
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: 2/5
ROMANCE: 2/5
HEAT: 2/5

Many thanks to Give Me Books Promotions, the Cocky Hero Club, and Victoria Pinder for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review of “French Wanker”. My thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.

I have been dying to read this book. The name sold me but the blurb did also. This is my first read by this author and I am now going to go looking up other novels by her.

Quentin and Kara aren't always easy to like, but they take emotions on quite a ride. Kara, in Paris to experience her aborted honeymoon on her own and Quintin, leaving his home town after selling his physician practice. One might reject the idea of a one night stand to console a jilted bride and a brooding Frenchman, but fate has them meet on the train to Monte Carlo.

I received an advance copy of this book. I am voluntarily giving my honest review, and I plan to buy this book when it becomes available.

This book offers a sexy, steamy affair of the heart set in a fairytale location most only dream of visiting. Two people ready for change, meet by chance or as fate designs, and have to make a choice that will alter their lives, for better or worse.

Quentin and Kara meet by chance in Paris. Both are seeking to make changes in their lives and find some semblance of peace. Kara was basically left at the altar and decided to go on the honeymoon she had planned and paid for on her own. She is not as heartbroken as she thought she would be, having realized that her ex was someone she had just settled for instead of someone she loved. She thinks this trip will give her a better idea of what she wants in life, and plans to have a vacation fling with some hot Italian if fate gives her that chance. She decides to see Paris before heading on to Italy and meets a very sexy Frenchman at the Eiffel Tower. Quentin is half British, half French and is about to head back to the family winery after years of living in Paris. He is saying his goodbye to Paris and his life as a doctor at the Eiffel Tower. His guilt and pain over the loss of loved ones has made being a doctor untenable for him. He meets a very sexy and captivating American woman, Kara, at the tower who daringly asks him for a kiss. They share a very passionate kiss, partake of champagne and part at the end of the night not knowing each other’s name, but sharing a memory they both will not forget. Fate throws them together again the next day, on a train headed to Monte Carlo. More passionate kisses are shared, names are given and they anticipate giving into their desire for each other. A slight change in travel plans gives them a romantic setting to explore each other before they head on to Monte Carlo. Their destination brings several surprises and people from both of their pasts that may well change everything between them. Both realize that their hearts are becoming involved even though this is meant to be a vacation fling. Do they listen to their hearts or do they follow the plans both made before they met?

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This one is a bit crazy. Kara and Quentin happen to be in Paris at the same spot at the same time. They share a moment that need of them want to forget and go their separate ways. It's seems to be just caught up with the romantic vibe of Paris.
Hence where the title come from as Kara wants to leave things impersonal as she isn't going to see this guy again right?
Well fate has other ideas and this book follows them over the course of their fast relationship. It pretty much all about them at this point and their pasts. Quentin is all poor me carrying the pain of two major events in his life that he believes that he is responsible for .

Both of them have come out of relationships for different reasons and they aren't looking for one supposedly. However chemistry makes them explore when fates bring them together again and it seems they are travelling on the same road.

This fast paced,it's literally seemed like everything happened in a week and a bit. Literally these two throw caution to the wind and let their feelings take control of their lives. It makes for some messy moments that seem just to come right for them as the ending is anything to judge by.

There is one particular chapter in this book that made me go what just happened . It seemed a little too crazy given that the people involved where secondary and minor characters to story tied to the past of the leads. It seemed out of place and an excuse for Quentin and Kara to evaluate things and make one of the only sensible decisions they make in this romance. It's entertaining but it seemed a little too heavy handed given everything else but then this was supposed to be a quick moment between two people who are hurting.
It's a redemption novel that doesn't quite meet the mark with some loose ends. It's a novel that light and enjoyable for those want a change from the alpha males who are too cocky for their own good.

Kara's fiancé canceled their wedding. Turning a negative into a positive she decides to enjoy her honeymoon to Paris solo. She meets Quentin and they share a passionate kiss, but nothing more since they are leaving Paris and never expect to see each other again.
Quentin has suffered tragedies in his life and he blames himself. he decides to leave Paris and his career as a doctor to return to the family's vineyard an escape the memories.
When these two meet again they have such an explosive connection. I think these two are what the other needs in their life. Kara is so good for Quentin and helping him move forward.

Oh a French hottie to entertain me...whatever will I do! French Wanker has a very entertaining meet cute and a steamy instalove connection. While I find the dear doctor dreamy, I have to say I felt a lot of this book was rushed. They had an instant connection. It happens. Cool. But they didn't quite develop it before the big grand gesture. I actually thought I skipped a few pages because while their connection was fun I had no earthquakes here on my part.

Enjoy the French, I certainly did. As a person who studied for 4 years, 20 years ago, it was fun to see if I could translate before I double checked with Google. The answer...yes.
So while I entertained myself with translating and enjoyed the good doctor's back story, I feel like French Wanker left me wanting more but not in the panting for it way I like.

I honestly don't enjoy Insta-love romances that much, but the blurb was very promising so I went for it.. But i just could not get into the story at all. It felt so forced, there was minimal connection between the characters, and our hero wasn't really a Frenchman.

Kara and Quinten meet at the very beginning, and then by day three or four they are already professing their love for one another. I just didn't buy it. There wasn't any chemistry or emotional connection.. They were just there.

I thought they could have been really interesting characters if it was executed properly, but I was just so bored reading it.

French Wanker is another novel in the Cocky Hero Club. Fate brings Quentin and Kara in Paris. She's on her honeymoon for one after basically being left at the altar. She thinks he might be just the thing to cure her heartbreak. What could be more romantic than traveling around France with a gorgeous British Doctor? A little insta-love, an abundance of chemistry, and fun read. The characters were likable, fun, and well-developed. The storyline was entertaining. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review it. No cliffhanger

The last thing Kara expected was to find herself going on her honeymoon alone and she certainly didn’t expect to find love whilst she was on it. She’s in Paris when she kisses a stranger not realizing the effect that it will have on both of their lives, prepare to laugh, cry and smile as you read Kara and Quentin’s story of their journey towards finding happiness together.

I am not usually one for insta-love stories but this was a unique one. Kara finds herself suddenly on her honeymoon for one in the city of Love.

What she finds is the apparent love of her life in Quentin at the Eiffel Tower.

This was a fast read for me, but I would try to give the author another chance.

Kara is on her honeymoon, all by herself, thank to her ex.
She meets Quentin, and they spend some time together.
Both of them, don't want commitment.
But rules are broken.

Great job! I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. This is only my second time reading one of Victoria Pinder stories. French Wanker is another novel in the Cocky Hero Club. This story is about how two people can find that instant love that everyone wants. After Kara's ex canceled the wedding, she went on her honeymoon by herself to Paris. That's where she meets Quentin. Quentin was running from his past, that is filled with misguided guilt. This book did have chemistry, drama and love. I wished that Quentin had a little more alpha in him at first. But I found that he did have more by the end of the story. I fell in love with Kara from the beginning. You need to get this one to find out why. Keep up the great job. I'm ready to read another book from this author.

The beauty and romance of Paris was what every young woman needed to mend a broken heart. The Eiffel Tower was the perfect setting for Kara to start her European adventure. She wanted to leave her past behind and hopefully be swept away by an amorous Frenchman. Quentin was handsome, a bit moody, but very passionate and Kara loved his sexy accent. She would rather be his girlfriend for a week than never have the chance to experience real passion. Kara felt it was her time to live life to the fullest and put herself first when it came to finding love again.

Quentin was so taken with Kara that he impulsively asked her to dinner and she responded flirtatiously, by asking him for a kiss. What a way to start a storybook romance!! Their witty banter, sexy glances and passionate kisses was dreamy and fanciful. Quentin never thought he would meet someone as perfect as Kara. She was beautiful, smart and had a zest for life that was contagious. She made him wish for things he didn’t deserve and a life he had no business thinking about. Quentin wanted to feel loved again, but he was the wrong man for Kara, and he would have to let her go.

New to me Author ARC review.

I hate not giving a 5 start review but I had to with this. It was a great storyline all in all but just felt rushed to me. Had a lot of potential to be an amazing story. Again over all I did like the story, just wish it didn't feel rushed.
