Brian Fox, I had no love for this guy. However, Lisa managed to make me like the guy at least a little. Now I understand him, his girlfriend really broke him when she cheated on him with Mark. He is still hurt and broken over it, even after all this time, and even after his revenge plot. Add to that the guilt he feels over what happened with Reese and Mark and the guy is really messed up over it.
All this doesn't make him a good guy though, in fact, he has a lot more mistakes and asshole attitude left in him and we see it all in It Started with a Lie.

Brian is used to spending his brother's money left and right but Mark isn't up for it now that he has a kid to think about, he needs to make smarter choices. That means he can't keep bailing Brian out of trouble with his company, so he hires someone for a 3 month period to help Brian with finances. At first Vivian Davenport is the bane of his existence, he hates her on sight but once he realizes that she is only there to help him and that the person he is truly mad at is Mark, he starts seeing her with other eyes. Eyes filled with lust and eyes that notice her and her quirks.

Then there's the fact that his best friends and co-owners of the company don't know the company is in trouble financially so he has to hide why Vivian is there, so they come up with the lie that she is his girlfriend and she's only there because she needed an office to work for her own company. And that is not all he's hiding from his best friends, he has also slept with his friend's ex, an ex he is not over and wants back. In the midst of all this mess and the pretending, Brian falls for Vivian and her for him but even after they share a passionate kiss in the docks of Miami, she tries to steer clear of him because she herself has a secret.

On one fateful night when Brian finally gets his balls back and tells his friends what he has been hiding from them, he and Viv sleep together. Brian wakes up happy and relieved, he finally told the truth and he finally got the girl but when Viv wakes up and tells him it was a mistake and the reason why, well... let's just say I'm probably not the only one who's jaw dropped.

I knew it was coming, I had 3 guesses, each worse than the last. I'm glad it was this one though but I have SO many questions. So many. I can't wait to get answers. Don't keep me waiting too long Lisa. I'm begging here. I need to know everything. Vivian Davenport needs to confess her sins and secrets.
And wow I did not think I could feel sorrier for Brian but I do. And from reading the blurb of book 2, it's only going to get worse. No friends, no company and no girl. Boy I'm scared of what all that hurt will do to him and make him do. And I'm super curious about all of what's going to happen and how Brian will turn his life around.

It Started with a Lie was a fun enemies to lovers office romance with the right mix of angst and slow burn to make you ache both in the heart and other places. Lisa has done it again and brought us a fantastically well written and amazing story and let's not forget her talent to redeem characters and make you go from hating them to absolutely loving them. I have no doubt that's where I'll be by the end of book 2.

I loved watching Brian fall at Vivian's feet and watching him gradually change, see his mistakes and wanting to do the right thing. I hope he continues to redeem himself in book 2 and not go back to being a complete jerk. And I loved seeing Mark and Reese again. My babes.

I'm just super excited for It Ended with the Truth to see more of everyone and see how it all ends.

I was very intrigued when I heard that Brian was getting his own book. Yes, he is from a previous series, but this can be read without having read it. In 'A Little Like Destiny', Brian is painted to be a bad guy. I couldn't wait to read that he had some redeeming qualities.

It Started with a Lie tells the story of Brian and his failing business. He has been borrowing money from his brother, Mark (the famous rock star), but Mark puts an end to it. He takes 51% of the company as payment and sends in Vivian to help fix the hole Brian dug himself into. Brian's partners, and friends, do not know how bad the company is doing. When they find Vivian in Brian's office, he lies and says that she is his girlfriend. The problem is that Brian wants nothing to do with Vivian and doesn't want help fixing the company.

I felt like this book was missing something. Brian comes across whiny and repetitive (he mentions about an ex A LOT and blames her for how he is now). There wasn't a gradual switch of him hating Vivian to liking her. It seemed like one day he was just into her. I kept waiting for Brian to do something big... a grand gesture... something to make me like him. It just fell slightly short.

I did really enjoy the last quarter of the book. I feel like that is when it really started to pick up steam and move forward. Unfortunately, I wish it grabbed me sooner.

It does end with a crazy cliffhanger, in true Lisa Suzanne form.

Lisa Suzanne never ceases to amaze me. Her writing is flawless and so easy to get lost in. With each book she writes, she finds a way to obliterate the bar I’ve set for her books and makes me fall desperately in love; not just with the story, but with the characters too.

The push and pull between Brian and Vivian was just fantastic. Those two seriously had some intense chemistry. You could feel the tension and need oozing off of them. I honestly couldn’t get enough of their story. They had me turning the pages impossibly fast, to see what would happen next.

It Started With A Lie was an amazing read, from beginning to end. The characters are fun and flawed. They are real and easy to connect with. You will be sucked into their story and find it impossible to put down. It has just the right balance of angst, drama, humor and heat. In the end, there is just nothing else to say other than I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

It Started With a Lie punched me with the feels. Did I expect to feel so much? Honestly, I had no idea what I was going to feel. I was grinning so hard at one point and then the next, BAM, I was fueled with anger. I had to simmer and calm down. The ride Lisa took me on was a doozy and I wanted more of the chaos.

Brian Fox is an arrogant and cocky SOB. There are things he did in the past that had me fuming. I had him placed in a box marked "BEWARE! May bite, but not of the pleasure variety." He dances to the beat of his own drum. You get in his way, and you're guaranteed to stay on his bad side. For me to find some semblance of good in Brian, he had to redeem himself at a very high level. Little by little he did start showing signs of changing from an uptight ogre and becoming a new and tolerable man.

Vivian Davenport was a feisty badass. She brought the sass tenfold. Oh my gosh, the way she put Brian in his place had me living. I kept chanting "YAS GIRL!" And it's because of her that Brian wanted to change his ways. She helped him in so many ways. Viv was a force to be reckoned with, and I couldn't get enough.

Viv and Brian, oh these two captured me. Their sexual tension was scorching. Their attraction towards each other was undeniable. Their banter had me laughing. They were quite the match. I rooted so hard for them, especially for Brian; I wanted him to have the happiness he deserved. But of course since this is a duet I knew not to get comfortable. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. And I had a feeling as to what it would be, and I so called it. *shakes fist* I see you Lisa, I see what you did and I just hope you heal this ache I have. I'll be not so patiently waiting for It Ended with the Truth. Hurry up October, I need this book!

WOW!! I definitely need to start by giving Lisa her props I didn't think there was any way possible that she could change my mind about Brian. I despised him, thought he was awful, underhanded and just an all around bad guy. I understand he was devastated when his girlfriend cheated on him with mark but I feel like he took his revenge a little too far.

You see a different side to him by the end of It started with A Lie and it was really refreshing. Brian is in trouble financially and of course he turns to his brother Mark. Mark hires Vivian to help fix his problems and to turn his business around.

I absolutely loved Vivian.... the push and pull and tension between these two is potent! You can literally feel the passion between them. And it's HOT!!

I do appreciate the character development and the strides Brian takes to become a better person and by the end I can really see more of his true personality but then in true Suzanne fashion we are hit with a major jaw dropping end!! I can't wait to see where It Ended with the truth takes us because I didn't see that coming!!!

💕💞 The sly Fox 🦊 just may have met his match 💞💕

Ask yourself this.. Can a douchebag be reformed?

Brian Fox 🦊 was a character from Lisa Suzanne's previous series, A Little Like Destiny. His character was one I disliked.. A LOT. Going into this series I had convinced myself that there was no way that she could change my mind. But... She did just that! Well played Lisa Suzanne.

Enter Vivian Davenport.. She's a strong, smart independent business woman who takes no crap. She's a bit of a mystery to me but I can help but think that's intentional.

What you thought you knew about both Brian & Vivian ends up being not the truth but lies. Fake it til you make it motto rings true with the original pretense of Brian and Viv's interactions. Soon that turns into banter which leads to flirting all while the sexual tension climbs in this enemies to lovers romance.

Couple that with the reality of Brian seeming to grow up.. Shocker I know.😉
It's like witnessing an ugly caterpillar transform into a beautiful butterfly and suddenly I'm cheering him on and rooting for him to spread his wings and fly.. AND get the girl too!

The question is, can he put his douchecanoe in dry dock permanently or will he allow it to be put back into use? Dealing with the past, while living in the present and hoping for a future just may be too much to expect..only time will tell.

In true Lisa 👑 #QueenofCliffies 👑 Suzanne fashion she totally let's us hanging... BUT the good news is that the second book will be out Oct 11th.. And you can #PreOrder it now!

Brian, Brian, Brian!!!! This man was not my favorite in the A Little Like Destiny series, but Lisa Suzanne has managed to bring him down to earth and made him more relatable and understandable in It Started with a Lie.

I'm the living, breathing definition of a selfish prick, but admitting the problem's the first step, right?

Let me just start off by saying if you didn't like Brian Fox before, well he isn't going to endear you to him now either. At least not right away. Brian has a lot of issues in his life, most of them of his own making. But when he needs his brother to pull him out of the mess he's made, he isn't prepared for what Mark sends his way, or should I say whom?

Mark Ashton was my first and favorite book boyfriend from Lisa Suzanne. And I think it's safe to say he always will be, but the other Fox brother is sure giving him a run for his money!! Brian is arrogant and like he says himself a prick, but he's kinda made his way into my heart.

And what about that ending? Lisa Suzanne always manages to leave me with a cliffhanger that has me desperately swiping at my screen. I cannot wait to get the conclusion to Brian's story!! Hopefully I won't have to wait too long. You can go ahead and send it now Lisa, I won't tell ;)

So so good

I loved this book. I never read a duet until both books have been released because I’m an instant gratification girl all the way but I’m kind of sad that I didn’t read this sooner. I’m not sure how I ended up rooting for Brian by the end of this book but I totally am. I didn’t see the ending coming until right before it happened and am super angry at the moment but am hoping for some redemption after I finish It Ended with the Truth.

I 100% recommend this book. It’s interesting and there is SO MUCH good character development!

Wow! Is revenge really sweet? Is Brian finally getting paid back for all the down and dirty things he did with his rock-star brother's girlfriend/now wife? Although Vivian has "fixed" Brian's company, the way Mark paid her to, will it cost Brian everything he's lied, schemed, and worked for? Furthermore, Vivian's character turned out to be not that much better than Brian's. Her situation is not "complicated" because adultery is a choice not an excuse. Can't wait to see how this hot mess is resolved in book #2.

I should have known going in to this book that Lisa Suzanne was not only going to leave me a conflicted mess again but she was going to make me love every second of it. And she did. I’m conflicted (again) and I LOVE it.

Brian Fox...the man that I can’t seem to stop loving no matter how hard I try is back with his own story. Having previously met Brian in the A Little Like Destiny series (which doesn’t need to be read before this duet but I highly recommend it), I went into this book already having conflicting feelings towards Brian. On one hand when he’s playing nice, he’s extremely easy to fall for. On the other he’s selfish, manipulative, stubborn, bitter, and honestly he’s just not a nice person at times. In It Started With A Lie we finally see Brian starting to realise that he needs to change. Used to having his brother Mark there to bail him and his company out he’s caught off guard when Mark not only cuts him off but also throws in a major game changer in the shape of sexy professional business fixer Vivian Davenport. Vivian is not one to put up with anyone’s bad behaviour but even she knows she’s got a fight on her hands with Brian. Butting heads constantly and dealing with his resentment of her been there only makes her even more determined to do what she’s been paid to do and get his company back on the right path. Throw in Brian’s lie about them been in a relationship and things are about to get complicated between them. I really liked Vivian. She won me over fairly quickly and I would have loved to have gotten some of her POV.

This is not one of those books where the main characters start off hating each other but by page six they’re falling into bed together. The chemistry between Brian and Vivian is a constant palpable energy that you can feel even as you read. The changes she brings about in Brian finally show him to be the man I originally fell for so long ago and I fell for him all over again in this book. I am once again Team Brian.

This book ends with a bang and sets up for It Ended With The Truth perfectly. I have anxiety after finishing. Is Brian going to revert back to the old Brian? I really, really hope not but at the same time I kind of hope he does (because who doesn’t love an asshole man?). I’ve ended up (yet again) feeling conflicted over the characters. The ones I thought I liked? Mmmm. The ones I thought were trustworthy, now I’m not so sure about. I can’t wait for the next book to get some answers (and more Brian of course).

Brian oh Brian where to stand with you. Well first of all I went into this book not expecting to change my mind all about him. I was determined to dislike him all eternity (ok maybe im over exaggerating a bit) But little did I know that Lisa Suzanne had other plans in store. The first half or so of the book didn't help Brian in his case at all. But towards the end did she manage to help my cold forzen heart slowly start to thaw toward Brian.

Brian is always going to his brother Mark for help when ever he needs to be bailed out of someting. Mark was glad to comply before but now he has a family to look after. So when Brian calls once again Mark instead hires Vivian Davenport for three months to help Brian with his finance troubles. At first Brian can't stand her but little did he know that was all about to change.

Along with hiring Vivian and keeping that a secret he's been keeping the finance troubles hidden from his best friends who also happen to be co-owners of the company with him. There's also another secret that he's keeping from one of his best friends. A secret that could possibly tear them apart.

When all these lies come to light will Brian be able to make it through or will he crash and burn?

Then there's also a certain little secret (aka its massive) secret that Vivian herself has been keeping. Which I can't wait to see what happens in the next book since all is now out in the open. Another amazing story and great job on getting Brian off my can't stand list.

Brian Fox is an arrogant asshole. He’s entitled, cocky, and likes getting his way. After meeting him in previous books I wasn’t so sure I could see him as anything else but a cocky bastard, but chapter by chapter I could see the change from arrogant asshole to delicious leading man and found myself rooting for him. After he gets himself in some financial hot water, his brother hires someone to help him turn his behinds around. Only problem is that Brian is used to giving orders not taking them and Vivian Davenport is now in charge. Vivian is sassy and classy. She doesn’t take anyone’s bullshit. Especially not Brian’s. I loved that she’s such a strong woman that she makes Brian want to rise to the occasion. Their chemistry was off the charts hot! I loved their verbal sparring which made for some delicious sexual tension and made the story even more irresistible. And just when it got really good there came that cliffy! I might die if I don’t get my hands on book two soon!

Lisa Suzanne has damn near blown my mind! Just when I think I know a character after three books she goes and flips everything around. It Started With a Lie is 100% delicious and that’s the truth! Deliciously steamy, plenty sassy, and utterly unputdownable. I need the next book because I answers and I need them now! 5 Stars.

It Started With A Lie (Truth and Lies Duet Book 1)
A brand new series that when I started to read this I wasn't aware of that Brian Hall was in a previous series.
I need to go back and read A Little Like Destiny Series which gives you Brian Halls backstory.
I absolutely love this book cover. He's gorgeous and fits the character image perfectly. The synopsis along with the cover intrigued me.
A frolic enemies to lovers office romance with the perfect dose of infused angst and passion to keep your heart & mind invested.
Characters are real, fun, and flawed. I loved the witty banter between Brian Hall and Vivian Davenport. With the intense chemistry these two have you can feel the tension & need between them.
Eloquent writing narrative & a flawless writing style that captures the essence of the characters.
I not only fell in love with this story I fell in love with the characters.
The more I flipped the pages the more I couldn't stop and needed more.
With a jaw dropping twist with a cliffhanger that leaves you thunderstruck as well as a book hangover.
I so cannot wait to read It Ended With The Truth. October cannot come soon enough.
I cannot wait to read more books by this author.

It Started With A Lie

**received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was on the fence about Brian’s story at first, but Lisa Suzanne did a amazing job bringing his story to light. She keeps him the way he is which I liked, he doesn’t lose his cockiness even though it is what has him in trouble right now. And when Vivian gets thrown into the mix she balances him and pushes him to be the man he is. She won’t stand for his crap and makes him come to terms with what is happening in his life. Together they are explosive and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Brian is trying to keep his business afloat and needs to borrow money from his brother like he has done previously only this time Mark gives him a ultimatum. Brian agrees and when Vivian shows up to help him out, he immediately dislikes her. But she somehow makes her way into his life and will turn it upside down.

Vivian is suppose to help out Brian and get his business back on track. She sees that he has the right ideas but just needs to do a better job keeping with them. What she isn’t expecting is to fall for the man who is not what he seems. But will they be able to work it out?

It Started with a Lie is a lovely story where we see a character that we hated in the Like Destiny series get redeemed and then get our hearts ripped out and stomped on in the end. I can't wait for It Ended with the Truth.

Talk about character development and evolution. We have seen Brian go from vindictive douche to a redeemed vulnerable hero. I loved getting to know Brian and crawl around in his head. I didn't always understand where he was coming from, but I loved seeing him grow.

I felt anxious while reading It Started with a Lie, mostly because it's a duet, so I know that no matter how great things are going in the moment that something HUGE will happen at the end that will completely pull the rug out from under me. And boy did it!

There is a simmering chemistry between Brian and Vivian, when they finally gave into each other it was a powerful, all consuming moment. I could sense throughout the book what they felt for each other.

It Started with a Lie is just the beginning of Brian and Vivian's story and I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

I received an ARC of It Started with a Lie. This is book one of this delicious two part duet. It is a classic enemies to lovers with all the feels. Brian Fox is desperate for cash. He turns to his brother, Mark, for help. Mark sends help in the form of, sexy, professional, business "fixer" Vivian Davenport. Vivian is not only not what Brian was expecting she is now his new boss of sorts. However, Brian being the arrogant, cocky guy he is acts like a spoiled child around Vivian and trys at every turn to annoy her. Vivian, being a professional is there to do one thing; help get his business back on track. The sexual tension between the two is palpable. Will Brian change his ways and finally become the responsible man that Vivian hopes he can be? Will these two get their HEA? This book does end in a "never saw that coming" cliffy, but take heart, book 2 releases not long after book 1.

Okay having previously met Brian Fox in in his brother Mark's books I have to say I didn't really like him. He was a player and the only person he really cared about was himself, but there was also something about him that really intrigued me and I needed to know more and with It Started With A Lie that's certainly what I got.
Lisa Suzanne has got me to do a complete 180 where Brian is concerned, deep down he's not at all what he seemed.

Brian Fox needs money and fast when his business is in trouble so he turns to his brother Mark for help. Mark helps him out but it comes with stipulations and he sends in 'the fixer' Vivian Davenport to help Brian with his business. Brian and Vivian are civil to each other but when a small lie gets out of hand and real feelings become involved where will it leave them.

This is part one of a duet so be prepared for an ending I definitely didn't see coming. A great read and I can't wait for October to roll around!!!

Honestly I was very nervous to read a book about Brian, I mean he was certainly not a favorite character after reading A Little Like Destiny Book Series... But I am ALWAYS up for a Redemption story and the author always writes compelling romances so I just had to dive in!

Lisa Suzanne captured my heart and soul with her VAIL Band that I could read books about this cast of characters ALL. THE. TIME. So we know from Mark & Reese's story that Brian is definitely almost scum, BUT in this book Lisa has me falling in love with Brian and crushing my heart with his constant heartache along with understanding and being in his head to grasp why he acts the way he acts.

I DESPERATELY need It Ends With The Truth because this first book in the Truth Duet has me all tangled up with what is to come...

Brian Fox, I hate that I'm loving him and loving that I hate him. This is what he does to me. He is the manipulator of my emotions.

Lisa Suzanne takes you on another ride with the brother of the god of rock, Mark Ashton. Brian Fox is sexy, smart and makes woman drop their panties but unfortunately it always seems like he is hooking up with the wrong person. Enter Vivian Davenport, an equally intelligent, beautiful woman. Sparks, chemistry, lies and lust are the best words to describe what happens when Brian and Viv are put together.

Did I love this book? Abso-freaking-lutely. Do I trust both Brian and Vivian? Abso-freaking-lutely NOT!! I can't wait to see where Lisa Suzanne takes my emotions next when she concludes this duet with It Ended with the Truth.

Wow! I didn’t think anything could change my low opinion of Brian Fox, but of course Lisa Suzanne just had to go and make me love him! After his nasty stunts in Reese and Mark’s book(if you haven’t read the A Little Like Destiny Series then you need to do so ASAP!), I just couldn’t see him as anything other than a complete waste of sexiness. Come to find out he’s just hurt by an ex’s actions, and a lot spoiled by all his brother’s money and his momma(yup, he’s a Momma’s Boy too, so cute)
I can’t wait to find out what happens next for Brian And Vivian, after the Queen of Cliffies left me hanging again- and boy was this ending a doozy! I’m so ready and excited to read the conclusion of this duet of books.

Omg!
If you read the other books, Brian is not your favorite person. He’s awful, the worst.
Yet at the end of this story you can’t help but like the guy.
It says a lot about an author when they can take such a hated character and make the reader like them.
This story was good. Super slow burn but enjoyable to see the relationship grow. I loved reading about the other characters we met in Reese and Marks books. It’s fun to see how they all interact.

So many lies! When you lie that much it has to crash down on you. I can’t wait until the second book. Gah that cliffy is a good one.

Brian Fox is not a great guy, barely even a good one. He uses his brothers money whenever he wants, he has no respect for anyone who doesn’t agree with him, and he’s just an arrogant person in general. His brother who now has to think about his future child, he hires Vivian Davenport. Vivian is a financial aid who Brian can’t stand. This novel is an enemies to lovers trope mixed in with the fake relationship trope too. I absolutely loved the book and can’t wait to get my hands on part 2 of the series.
