Temping sucks, especially when you have a shopping addiction. I started at Seemore Temps when my dreams were shattered and I needed something to pay the bills. At Seemore Temps they pride themselves on the three B’s. Beauty, Brains, and Bounty. They supply the mostly male-driven businesses of Manhattan with able women that can do the job, and look good too. Needless to say, we’re a popular Agency. Working for Mason Chase should have been easy. He was married, kind and a bit of a flirt, but pretty harmless. Not like James Murtaugh or the Shameless Bastard as I’ve come to call him. He’s the ruthless, arrogant CEO of Renowned Investment Financial, and he’s set his eyes on... me. He can have any woman he wants and will go to great lengths to have them. I need this job, but I want, Christ, what do I want? Do I give in? Let him conquer me like some Emperor? Or do I stay in my place and collect the paycheck? We shall see, either way, it’s gonna be interesting. All good things must come to an end, right? Except our ending was one I didn't see coming.

OKAY, so Shameless Bastard had a lot of bad reviews. I mean.. not completely horrible but it was like, it's not me - it's you, to the book. Which I can completely relate to.. just not with this one. I mean, yeah, some things were odd in this one but this whole series is a bit odd.
In it, you will meet Ariella and James. They both have a past and past loves. He has a kid and she used to be engaged to her old boss. That being said, he's her new boss and they are hooking up with one another. Of course things started off super hot and heavy between them. I will even admit that I was getting into their relationship but I will say that it did feel like too much was happening way too fast.
Then again, when you know.. you know.
Getting closer and closer to the end.. and things were just getting weirder. Yes, it comes with the series and sometimes it works. It just didn't for me. Not saying this book was bad or horrible.. but ugh, Christmas engagement? Does that even count?
A office romance between the temp and the boss which is wilder then you image. These two authors went to the town with the romance in this one. Ariella supposed to represent the agency who is known for providing capable woman to rich men of Manhattan for their work places. Everything is smooth until she meets James. James pushes her buttons and forces Ariella to revaluate everything in her life. There some crazy passionate scenes in this book that involve multiple characters be warned. It’s complicated to say the least and seems a little out of place given that this was supposed to be about James and Arielle. But then Ariella was complicated to say the least. James was willing to do anything for a relationship and this cocky man changed over new leaf in order to get his woman. It’s mismatched couple and a bit out there with the backstory but it’s not what I expected when I picked up this book .
I tried to read this book. I really tried, but it’s A LOT, so much so that a good portion of it made less than zero sense to me. This is one of those stories that tried to be larger than life but turned out to be an over the top hot mess.
I honestly do not know if anyone took a look at this book after the first draft and helped the author out with content. It reads like maybe they didn’t. I know I’m being a bit harsh but this book is 1 of 12 books in this launch of the Cocky Hero Club Universe and out of all those books I can count in one hand the books I would rec to a reader. I don’t know what the finished product will be. Maybe all the plot shenanigans will be fleshed out and make sense *shrug* but an ARC is supposed to be as close to hit publish ready as you can get. I didn’t receive this book to beta read it, just to review it so ….. do will all that information what you will *shrug*
I feel like this is a case of "it's me, but the book." There was just so much going on that it was hard to focus on what was *actually* happening. If was rushed, yet slow at the same time, too.
If tried to be a funny, office romance, then goes to enemies to lovers, to single dad, to a whole lot of drama. I think if the author really narrowed down on what trope she wanted this would have been a good book, but it was just so over the place. Because of everything that was thrown at us I didn't have the chance to really appreciate the characters for who they were.
This is going to be a book where you're going to really love it or really dislike like it. Unfortunately I fell into the latter of that.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**
This was a good read by two authors I’ve not read before.
Ariella works as a temp for an agency. The company she has been sent to has two bosses. One married and the other James, she has called the title of this story. There’s a lot of back and forth with them. I did like the banter.
Shameless Bastard is one of those ‘it’s me, not the book’ cases. I’m sure it will appeal to many, but it just didn’t fit my tastes.
I just couldn’t get behind the attitudes of the characters, and it made it difficult for me to fall in love with them. Add in the fact there were a lot of storylines introduced and I feel things happened too quickly. I’m a lover of slow burns, so the way things happened so quickly failed to grab me in the way it could have.
As I said, though, this is a case of me picking up something that wasn’t really to my tastes. I tried, but it wasn’t for me. However, I’m sure many will enjoy it if they want a quick read with plenty packed into it.
I am not sure that I even know where to begin writing a review for this because it is truly an awesome experience. James and Ariella are to die for!
I loved everything about it - the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing. The authors ability in telling the story had me wanting this book to go on and on!
A quick read, but things felt rushed. Especially with so many storylines/plot points being introduced. I just felt like it didn't all come together in the end to create a satisfying story.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This is a new author for me so I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started this book and if I'm honest I am still not sure. I felt like the book was a bit all over the place but had the potential to be a great story it was just a bit too much of a mixed bag for me.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So I have never read this author before and so parts of this story were not my favorite and not what I had expected. This was a really different romance in the Cocky World and one I might not have signed up for if I had known the authors and their writing.
To be honest I hated the beginning of this story. So much I almost quit reading but because its a review I kept reading and honestly by the time I hit the middle I absolutely adored it and could not put it down.
Some things I did not like, the 2 F and 1M fantasy that Ariella has about her boss' partner and a fellow co-worker. The sex club scenes and what happens there with James and Ariella. The ex and best friend who is also James baby mama who he spends weekends with as he spends time with his daughter. The fact that the characters had orgies and that Ariela had sex with her roomates.
The things I loved is that in this story they only have sex with each other. I loved ther work relationship and how passionate James and Ariella are. How James wants her so badly that he fights to have a relationship with her, even if its with her.
I loved the daughter and felt she really added to the story and made it much lighter. I also loved Mason and his wife and family and how they invite both James and Ariella to Thanksgiving. I loved how protective they are of James but also that they care about Ariella too.
This is a story about James who runs his company with his best friend Mason. They hire two employees and Ariella ends up working for Mason and the other temp works for James. However Mason is planning on leaving the company and so Ariella ends up working for James too.
James is in lust with Ariella and she kinda hates him. Until one night at a club they have sex and then they both can't keep their hands off each other. Ariella just wants sex. She has a very complicated past and she doesn't want to deal with feelings. Where James wants more and has to fight her to get more with her.
It is difficult to put this book in any one category
➡️ RomCom - in the beginning ➡️ Age gap - Yes ➡️ Contemporary - yes
Shameless Bastard I thought was going to be a Rom Comedy and it started out that way - control freak James who likes everything just so in the office; he has got rid of more assistants than a revolving door! Enter Ariella who works for the temp agency 'Seemore Temp' who only supplies girls that have brains but are also beautiful!
When orderly James meets sassy Ariella their was bound to be trouble. Ariella is you're no commitment girl likes a good time but that is it and James orderly way drives her insane even while having the hots for her new boss. And thats why I thought it was going to be RomCom because at the start they are some funny scenes. But then it changes and gets whole lot serious as James is dealt a situation he doesn't know how to deal with for the first time and he needs to rely on Ariella.
Ariella is happy to help James but it brings back some painful memories for her ones she isn't sure she is ready to face.
It’s been hit or miss for me with the Cocky Hero Club. This one is a nearly miss.
I loved how it started. It was fun and sexy, and I expected a steamy erotic romance–though the intimate scenes weren’t well detailed. But then, the authors quickly included multiple plot points. Too many to my taste, that made everything happen way too fast. So fast that sometimes, I though it was unrealistic. I’d have liked it better if the book had focused on one storyline.
Too bad too, because the writing wasn’t that bad, with a lot of witty quotes and silly/sexy banter. They made the characters more interesting–without that, they were mostly defined by one or two traits and not well developed.
Quickie
- Series: standalone (but part of the Cocky Hero Club collection) - Hashtags: #billionaire romance #office romance #single dad #instalove - Triggers: N/A - Hotness: 3/5 - Romance: 2/5 - + witty sentences and banter - – everything happens too fast
This was a first for me by this author and I have to say I really enjoyed it a lot.
Ariella works for a temp agency and has been assigned to a company hoping it may turn full-time for her.
Once she meets the Bosses she has her eyes set on one Boss but unfortunately he is married, so she moves on but the other Boss has his eyes on her even though he can’t stand her.
James is a man who really doesn’t need anything but there is something about Ariella that rubs him a certain way and one way or another he will have her, thinking it may curb his appetite for her. Only problem is that once he’s had a taste he can’t seem to let go.
Ariella and James somehow are made for each other, he makes her think and open up in ways she never thought she could. She pushes him further and tells him what he needs to do to make it better not only for him but his daughter.
James doesn't like chaos everything has to be controlled, everything has to have it's spot, and those working for him can not be an idiot and not get the simple tasks done. His partner Mason evens him out as his best friend and business partner. I loved Mason he was hilarious. James has just fired his assistant and is over it. When they use a temp agency to bring in two more people to help well he's about to eat his words. Ariella is a strong person she knows what she wants and won't take no crap for it. When she is hired as an assistant to Mason and her friend to James things are about to change. James and Ariella butt head like crazy, mostly because she won't take his crap. And boy this is a battle with each other. But James is taken with Ariella can he keep it in his pants or will he beg her for a chance? Amazing story of love, strength, banter, and fun.
I loved every part of this book! Wow I was sucked in right away and could not stop. Also they have some major HOT scenes. First book but this author and won’t be my last.
The bigger and tougher they are the harder they fall. James didn’t put up with much, being a self made CEO of a billion dollar company he didn’t need to. Until Ariella strolled into his office with her little pink suitcase to be the new office temp and rocked his world.
Ariella took pride in everything she did, including her sexuality, she knew what she wanted and wasn’t ashamed to take it. She was a rarity for James, she put him in his place when no one else ever had before.
I really enjoyed being a witness to their love story, there are twists and turns that just make you love this couple and want to see what happens. There is some drama but nothing that gets in the way of their love and very active sex life.
I don’t think this book ever caught it’s stride. There were some parts that showed promise but the whole time I felt like I skipped pages or something. Another thing is this whole book felt like the middle of the book, there was no real ending in sight. And then they threw in a small epilogue to make it seem like there is an HEA when that relationship never screamed “we are stable” at all. Last thing, this book was AGGRESSIVELY horny... like the term “protein injection” was used in such a casual way that I wanted to gag. I didn’t know what this book was trying to do but I don’t think it worked for me. I feel like this would be a pretty good outline for a book, it definitely wasn’t ready to be published.
This Story has all the feels. I laughed through all the witty banter and cried through all the heart wrenching and epic moments. This was my first experience with a CHC spinoff novel. These Authors did an amazing job giving the plot a unique voice and making it their own while maintaining the integrity and style of the original novels. But like always I'm a greedy Reader and always want more. The pacing was really fast. While it made for an easy read I think if the book has been a bit longer it could have been even better. If you enjoyed Stuck-up Suit you will definitely enjoy Shameless Bastard.
Not sure how I feel after reading Shameless Bastard. It was SO promising, I loved the banter between James and Ariella, who are QUITE different and had major chemistry. It just seemed as if the book was rushed and there was WAY more information and scenes thrown into it and kept my head spinning, but not in the good way.
All in all, it is an interesting concept and if it was just a little more simpler, it would have been the entertaining read that I was expecting and hoping for. I little bit of a let down, I give this 3 outta 5 stars.
PS: I would like to thank the authors, Cocky Hero Club, and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.
James is a man who thrives on routine and order and that holds especially true for the company where he is the CEO. He is a demanding boss that expects no less of his employees than himself which is a part of the problem when it comes to retaining the assistants he hires.
Ariella works for a temporary agency and she finds herself working for James. She is spontaneous, decisive, firm in her opinions and beliefs and challenges James like no other.
There is no denying the chemistry between them but between their pasts and the obstacles in the present their journey isn’t without its complications.
This is part of the Cocky Hero Collection and is one steamy read. Ariella and James story will take you on one wild ride. She's a temp from the best agency in Manhattan and they service the cream of NYC's men. This book is nothing like I thought it would be. There are some unusual scenes but I don't want to give anything away. He's orderly and she's sassy. The book was confusing at times with different plots going on. Their chemistry was explosive and there was lots of banter back and forth. To be honest, this wasn't my favorite. The book seemed a little rushed and disjointed. I read an arc via the authors and voluntarily chose to review it.
That's a lot of things mixed all together to get a...story. I won't call it a complete fiasco, but it will test your limits and patience several times. You will get a dense amount of elements and characters. It wants to be a funny story, an office romance, sometimes an enemies to lovers, but not, let's make it a single dad romance hold let's throw in some kinky stuff, add a bit of drama too, what else? Told you, that's kind of a book you'll love or hate it from the beginning. Now the choice is all yours *ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review*
This book had such potential. Sadly, despite how engaging parts of it were it quickly lost all luster. This is a bummer because as I mentioned there truly were some great moments. Too many plot lines, a lack of plausibility, and a rush to complete the book left too many areas needing to be flushed out. I think had this concentrated on one main area and let the relationship grow that this could have been a success.
Even though this wasn't for me, I am sure there are many others out there that will enjoy this book.
I enjoyed reading this fun and sexy book by J.Haney and S.I Hayes both were new authors to me. This office romance has all the feels as we follow James a alpha and Ariella who is younger and who doesn’t put up with his nonsense and add in a gorgeous little girl and we have a good book. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.
Ariella and James seem a perfect match for one another from the beginning. Love the sass they give each other, love how she busts his balls ! It did seem as an afterthought some things in the book like oops I got to put this in for example when you meet soraya in it. The ending to seemed a bit to rushed for my liking I was expecting more when it was the end like oh. I voluntary reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I don't even know what categories to put this book into.
It wasn't until I read the blurb after having read the book that I can kind of see where this book was supposed to be headed. It had so many different storylines and characters that were just dropped...it was confusing. In addition, I didn't actually find any of the characters terribly likeable. It was all a lot of jumbled up noise to me, unfortunately. I was really looking forward to this book. Disappointed.
3.5 star for me. I really want to like this book because I enjoy reading James and Ariella's banters in the first ten chapters but when the story keeps going, especially after a HOT scene in a club, I feel like it's a bit boring. I understand that authors want to create a drama about Ariella's baggage and I get the idea that both James and Ariella don't do relationship but the story is dragged too long and predictable.
I liked the premise of the story and I liked where it was going at the beginning but then it sort of changed directions and just left me confused and wanting more of the beginning again. James and Ariella are funny and I loved their banter and the premise of the story. Their interactions changed somewhere throughout and didn't feel genuine at one point so I had a hard time actually rooting for them. I liked the end however and how they figured it out.
This is the first time reading a book by these authors.
I love office romance books. This book has the perfect amount of banter, chemistry, friendship, drama, loss and love.
James and Ariella are perfect for each other. I'm so glad they are able to get the ending they deserve. You will fall in love with little Alexsandra (Alex).
I was given a ARC of this book for an honest review.
