Undercover Agent is written in Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward's Cocky Hero World and guest-stars Simon and Bridget from BRITISH BEDMATE!
Resisting a cocky undercover agent is her mission impossible…
Lynx It was one night, A night of pure passion and desire, A night I will never forget. But she walked out, And I never stopped thinking about her. And now, she's back Within reach. And again, she’s off-limits, Belongs to someone else, One of my men. Teaming up with her to take down Those who threaten our freedoms Seems like a perfect way to get close to her, But there’s more at stake than ever before.
Emerson I never forgot him. He was—is—everything. But the timing was off; I had more happening in my life than I could handle. And now, with him right there, I can feel how much I’ve missed: His touch, his scent, his taste. Except, there's more on the line Than a love affair. We have to keep it professional. But can I do that when I need so much more from this undercover agent?
Undercover Agent is another addition to the Cocky Hero Club series that pulled me in from the start. In truth, when I started this one, I thought I would be giving a four-star rating. Unfortunately, it dropped down to a three-star rating in the end. It’s more of a three-point-five-star, but it was one I couldn’t quite bring myself to round up.
There was a lot of potential for this one, and I always love a good undercover story. Alas, this didn’t quite give what I hope from such stories. I expected a lot more suspense, only to find most of this happened off page and was never as dramatic as it could have been. I kept waiting for something big to happen, but things felt like they were dragging. I certainly enjoyed the characters, I just wanted more from the story itself.
All in all, this one had potential but didn’t quite deliver.
UNDERCOVER AGENT was an okay read - I didn’t hate it but I didn’t quite love it either. Connected to the CHC world, it brought us cameos from Simon and Bridget from BRITISH BEDMATE. I think it was the trope that put me off more than anything - I’m not really a huge fan of the action/suspense thing.
I thought that this was an excellent romance. I loved the blend of emotion, excitement and danger. I quickly fell for and became fully invested in Emerson and Lynx. This hot AF British Agent and this smart and quirky heroine make one epic, high energy, swoon worthy couple. The story easily puts the squeeze on your heart with lots of angst, longing, repressed feelings and suppressed desires, while also keeping you on the edge of your seat with action, suspense, twists and covert ops. Toss in ample doses of drama, steam, humor along with clever banter and sizzling chemistry and you have a perfect storm of reading delight that should not be missed! I am posting an independent, impartial review.
The one night that Lynx and Emerson spent together never really left either one of there kinds even all this time later but now due to a mission they are unknowingly thrown back together, circumstances have changed but one thing that hasn’t is how much they want each other
This was my first book by this author, I will be adding the rest of her books to my library! I enjoyed Undercover Agent. I am not a review that goes over the plot, I figure if you're reading the reviews you probably already know what the story is about. I will tell you what I look for in a book: good dialog, humor, believable characters, and steam. This book had it all with intrigue as an added bonus. The characters are well developed with enough history provided to make them believable. As a matter of fact, I liked all the characters. You won't go wrong taking a chance on Heather Slade if you haven't read her books before. And if you have, this will make a great addition to your library.
Undercover Agent is my first book by Heather Slade and it was great.
First of all. It is part of the Cocky Hero world and I LOVED seeing characters from British Bedmate here!! Gah! That book is one of my favorite books ever.
Ok. Back to Undercover Agent. What a great story with fantastic characters. I loved the dialogue and I loved the intrigue. I was glued to the pages and the twists and turns were great! Lynx and Emerson have amazing chemistry and I was rooting for them to have a happily ever after.
There is a lot going on with the plot and I don’t want to give it away but I will say this book is totally worth a read! It’s well written and fun and you won’t regret reading it.
I will read anything this author writes! Please note that while this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. But believe me, you will want to read them all! International intrigue, bonds of brotherhood, bad a$$ men and women and action! In this book we catch up with Lynx and the woman he never forgot after meeting 3 years ago. Now, their careers have brought them together. Can they complete the mission while managing their emotional minefield? This is a great read! I devoured it in about 4 hours! Can’t wait for the next one!
Totally enjoyed reading about Lynx and Emme. They had a lot of misunderstandings and soul searching before finding there HEA. I loved all the twist and turns. What made it enjoyable is that you couldn’t predict the ending entirely in the beginning. Both Lynx and Emme were very like able and had depth and I liked seeing their love for each other growing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a real love story and to see them finding their HEA.
I had very high hopes for this book and was very disappointed. With reading the blurb, this book had SO much potential.
First of all, he’s with MI6, and claims to be an undercover agent. Let’s explain the wording for those (at the beginning) who have no idea what the wording around being in this type of setting means. Because I think that’s what started my confusion. Throughout the book he doesn’t go undercover for anything. There is a lot of misunderstandings because they wouldn’t let each other talk and say what they felt. They were so hot and cold with each other throughout the entire book too. I felt I should not have been there during their intimate moments, I didn’t feel that connection with them. There was no steam leading up to their encounter.
The book, I felt like had an outline and then just added some vague details added in to it. Descriptions were very dubious when they needed to be detailed; and when you didn’t need to know the specific scent of Emerson herself (not even her perfume!) or the EXACT favorite colors of Lynx, you got them. I’ve read a lot of books with London characters and Lynx did not do it for me. He had very old English speech that just made you confused. There was a part where Emerson said she felt betrayed. And I didn’t feel that. I was confused to understand how she could feel that way... upset? Sure. But betrayed? Not at all. She barely knew these people.
But let’s also not forget the parts where politics came into it. Between pharmaceutical issues, sexism, etc. I rolled my eyes a lot.
I felt there could’ve been more to this story. I put it off at first that it was due to it being part of the Cocky Hero Club, since I’ve not read here it all originated from; that maybe I was missing something, but I’m clearly not. I have no desire to want to read any follow up books about the other side characters in the series.
I’m glad they had a happily ever after, but that may have been the only part that I truly connected with for the book. I wish I could say I loved this book, I really do. But when I feel lost throughout the entire book it’s not one I often want to continue. But I muddled through. Proceed with my warnings.
Written in the Cocky Hero Club World Undercover Agent, Lynx is a devilishly handsome Brit who is sent on a mission to locate a missing fellow agent. When he arrives at his apartment building he can’t believe his one night stand from a few years ago is standing in front of him in the vestibule. In Emerson’s rush to get out of her building, she inadvertently lets in the handsome young man whose voice takes her back to the one wild night she had with a stranger and then disappeared. The sex was amazing. The sparks are flying and the electricity between them only intensifies as they are thrown together in this international suspense.
Heather Slade creates stories filled with strong sexy alpha men that have a sense of honor to uphold while trying to find the possibility of forever. Her heroines are strong intelligent woman who are pulled between their jobs and the probability that they may just fall in love during a mission that can put both their lives at stake.
This is a worldwind story of intrigue, espionage and commitment. Can these two find their way back to each other? Will Lynx be able to save Emerson and bring his fellow agents home safe? You’ll see.
Undercover Agent – Heather Slade – 4 stars *ARC received in exchange for an honest review*
Heather Slade is a new author to me. I found her with her addition into the Cocky Hero Book Club, Undercover Agent. Undercover Agent is a dual point of view, second chance romance that follows Lynx and Emerson. Lynx is an MI6 agent that loves his job, he is cocky, self assured and a bit of a player. Emerson is an intelligent, quirky woman who loves her job. The pair meet when Lynx looks for a missing agent, however, it’s not the first time the pair have met. When Emerson recognises Lynx she instantly tries to flees, however, hurts herself in the process. Forced together the pair have to face their past and their fears. This book was a good addition into the Cocky Hero Book Club, however, the plot could have been more interesting. The build up was great, however, it fell flat toward the end. Overall, a great read and I would recommend to any romance fan.
All the personal vs. professional lines are being crossed in this exciting romance!
Cocky doesn't even begin to describe our sexy MI6 agent, Lennox. As a senior agent, he's always in charge of any situation, including his run-in with his unforgettable one-night-stand from three years ago. I loved how his control was shaken just a little bit by finding Emerson embroiled in his latest mission, especially when he was trying to Not Care One Bit about the extent of her friendship with another agent.
I loved Emerson's part in this story; she does a remarkable job of holding herself together despite the overwhelming distraction of seeing Lynx again and trying to figure out exactly how her professional and personal lives have crossed. The family twist was pure genius, and I cheered at how they found the key information they'd been looking for.
There's plenty of intrigue in this story, but the romance is firmly at the center of it all. I loved the way the tension was kept high throughout the story, especially when Lennox is trying to figure out just what it all means and what changes he needs to make. Emme is a wonderful heroine, smart enough to hold her own in the mission and strong enough to stand up for herself when necessary. Their HEA was so sweetly satisfying, and I loved that it included the extended family as well.
I can assure fellow readers that this book is a solid addition to the Invincibles family. This story finally (!) gives us the entire story of the China mission that we first heard about back in Edged. The author brilliantly manages a complex timeline spread throughout the series, though each book is a standalone romance and you won't lose much if you read them in any order. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Undercover Agent by Heather Slade is the story of Emerson Charles and Lennox 'Lynx' Edgemon Lynx. This story is part of the Cocky Hero Club Series, but can be a standalone book if you wish to do so. This book has most everything you are looking for in a exciting romance. You have the hot one night stand that neither can forget which a few years later they find themselves meeting again. But this is when the James Bond type stuff starts. Emerson is the very smart women who does have a clumsy side that added to her personality. With Lynx being the cocky agent that makes you drool. Enjoyed their story.
Heather Slade, where have you been my whole reading life? I've been missing out!
Emerson and Lynx had such great chemistry. And while the romance was fantastic, I think the action and intrigue were just as captivating. This was fun and surprising and totally enjoyable!
Undercover Agent takes us into the world of British Bedmate. Emerson and Lynx story has you gripped from the start and on the edge of your seat. Their story is full of suspense, drama and intrigue. A story of concealed longing and desires. These two will own your heart as you fall in love with their banter and the sizzling chemistry that ignites between the two of them. A story that will have your heart pounding and your pulse racing as these two takes us on a ride of passion and love.
I absolutely adored this story. The hero is drop-dead gorgeous M16 Brit with the accent to swoon over. The heroine is brilliant MIT professor. They had one night three years ago but did not even share last names. Now they are working together on a threat from China and trying to decide if more than this interlude is remotely possible.
The perfect mix of romance, family, connections, in addition to danger and intrigue. I read this in a short time because I could not put this one down! Highly entertaining, pulse-raising and emotional. Simply wonderful.
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
I enjoyed reading this story ! It had suspense, intrigue, mystery & romance. It starts with Emerson at her mail box and meets a British man who tells he he is a friend of Niven's who she knows is her neighbor Tommy. I kept reading to find out what was happening and a lot is going on I could write more but I don't want to write spoiler. I highly recommend this book!!!!!
Emerson 'Emme' Charles is leaving her apartment building when a man holds the door open for her, she pauses when he stops in front of the mailboxes and asks is she can help him. He says he's a friend of Niven's, which makes sense since he has the same British accent. Tommy hasn't been home in a couple of weeks, so his box is near overflowing. The time spent ogling 'Mr. 007' has Emme missing her bus as she wonders why he looks familiar. As it turns out they are going to the same place, and Emme wonders why he doesn't recognize her. She's also surprised he's the one she's rushing to meet with instead of Dr. Benjamin.
Arriving at her offices, Lennox/Lynx knows protocol, it's the same as Vauxhall. He also knows the man waiting as they step off the elevator, although he pretends not to. Paxton 'Irish' Warrick isn't happy when Lynx wants to meet with Dr. Charles alone, however he concedes the issue. Once the meeting sort of get under way Emme gets a bit clumsy and his water spills all over.
Emme meets Lennox's brother Stephen as he staples her head injury. She protests needing someone with her for 24 hours though. Lennox and Stephen are both adamant since she could have a concussion from a hard enough hit to cause the injury. She doesn't expect Lennox to stay by her side until she contacts her parents, and they arrive. Which they wouldn't because they're away.
This is just the beginning as it becomes apparent that Emme could very well be in danger. Not knowing all the facts of the problem of Tommy and Dr. Benjamin going missing she runs off to the Cape and her parents. Hoping the distance will give her some insight to her feelings about Lynx. There's also much Emme doesn't know about her own family that comes out as she processes that Tommy and Lennox are MI6 and her assistant is CIA.
I loved the way this story comes together. It appears that Keon 'Decker' Edgemon is Lennox's brother, and his Invincibles team will be assisting in finding and rescuing Tommy and the Dr. Benjamin. There is another problem though, there is a mole somewhere and they need to figure out who it is before everything goes to hell.
This is a convoluted tale full of suspense, betrayal, surprises, and a rekindled relationship that will melt your kindle with the heat.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
An Absolutely Fantastic Story . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Undercover Agent . WOW! I loved it . It has all the feels . This story is part of the the cocky hero club . Lennox Edgemon (Lynx) is undercover MI6 agent he has a missing agent (Saint) Niven St.Thomas . He is shocked to find Dr. Emerson Charles (Charlie ) to Saint is none other than the woman three years ago had the best night of his life and he never forgot . Things heat up both with the assignment and their feelings but with so many secrets and danger is a relationship meant to last or end in heart break . This story is a sexy and intriguing romance throw in sexy British spies . Yes please ! The characters are fabulous . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
"Undercover Agent" (Protectors Undercover Team One Book 1) by Heather Slade is a great read. I enjoyed 'Lynx' Lennox and 'Emme' Emerson's story. This story is packed with romance, passion, action, interesting characters, and more. This was a terrific start to this new spin-off series. I loved catching up with some of my favorite characters from The Invincibles Series. Highly recommend it to all fans of romance, action, and series.
I recently discovered both Heather Slade and The Cocky Hero Club novels, and boy am I glad that I did!! I absolutely loved the story. The characters were awesome…equal parts sass and steam from both Lynx and Emerson, which made for a page turning story that I just could not put down. Lynx, the cocky British undercover agent and Emerson a scientist with mad skills thrust together to save the world, while trying to fight the feelings they have for each other…what could go wrong?!? While this was a romance novel, there was also action, adventure, and mystery woven in, which I really enjoyed. Heather’s writing pulled me in at page one and before I knew it, I was done with the book. I loved her descriptive writing – describing the characters and the story in a way that sucked me right in and made me feel like I was part of the story…like I was walking alongside the characters living the same things they were. This story had equal parts romance and action/adventure and I loved every minute of it! While this was the first book I read by Heather Slide, you better believe that I will be picking up many more of her books in the future (more specifically the near future)!
Undercover Agent by Heather Slade is a phenomenal romantic suspense book. Ms. Slade has given readers a book that is not only well-written but will keep them reading past their bedtime. This is one of those books you just can't put down. It is written in first person, alternating point of view format, my least favorite (ok, I hate it) but the author made it work in this book. I still think it would have been better in third person, but that's a personal preference. Emerson bumps into the man she had a one-night stand with at her apartment building. When Lynx bumps into the woman he hasn't been able to forget he pretends he doesn't know her...because that's what M16 agents do. Lynx and Emerson's story is loaded with drama, humor, smokin' hot sexy bits and the suspense level is low. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Heather Slade soon. Undercover Agent is part of A Cocky Hero Club Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Who doesn't love a good suspense story with a hot British man but I loved that Emerson was just as smart and helpful in the .entire process.
Emerson is shocked to find her one night stand from three years ago in her apartment building looking for a neighbor that has been away for two weeks. Could it be a coincidence or could it be much more than she imagined? She hasn't been able to get Lynx out of her mind all these years.
Lynx recognized her right from the beginning but he had a job to do. A fellow agent to help find. As far as he understands this woman is the key to finding out. The more he sees her in her role at work, adapt and roll with the punches that him and his fellow agents keep throwing her way, the more she intrigues him.
Will they let life pass them by again without giving into the draw between them? But his time in the States is limited so why bother? It will just leave her with a broken heart again.

I LOVED this book. Emerson and Lynx had a one night stand 3 years ago and neither had forgotten about the other. Lynx even tried to find her after she left his room early in the morning without waking him. Now, she’s standing before him and he has to act like he doesn’t remember her. He’s an MI6 agent, Emerson works at MIT and writes International policy, her specialty as an analyst on China and he’s in the states to get info on the disappearance of his other agent Saint who is missing along with another high profile analyst. This book has all the feels from Intrigue, angst, suspense, Chemistry and wonderful captivating characters that are believable. Emerson and Lynx are perfect for one another. I love this author and try not to miss any of her books. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
With Undercover Agent, Heather Slade manages to beautifully merge her already well established group of agents with the Cocky Hero Club world of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.
Slade creates agents, both foreign and domestic, that anyone would want ensuring the safety of high ranking officials and citizens alike.
Add in intelligent, independent women who capture their hearts, and you've got a recipe for success.
Undercover Agent centres around America's east coast. Imagine the difficulties faced when the hero is a British MI6 agent!
Emerson and Lennox's journey to HEA is just more evidence to show how 'love will find a way'!
Overall, a nice addition to Heather Slade's catalogue and a fitting addition to the Cocky Hero Club world.
Lynx is MI6 and on an undercover mission when he stumbles upon Emerson. She is the one who left his hotel room 3 years ago with no note or even a last name. Emerson is involved with writing policy between the US and China. Will their one amazing night bring them together forever or leave them with nothing but memories?
OMG I think Lynx and Emerson might be my favorite addition to the Cocky Hero Club World so far. I am new to Heather Slade but can’t wait to read more of her work. So excited to see that she has more CHC novels coming and also The Invincibles Series with some of the side characters. Undercover Agent has suspense, angst and all the feels. Amazing addition to the CHC World!
Lynx is investigating the disappearance of fellow MI6 agent Tommy and the trail leads him to a doctor who he is about to find out is actually the woman he spent one steamy evening with three years ago. She is also the woman who left before he woke up and who he has never been able to forget.
Emerson is a professor at MIT whose intellect is off the charts, but she is also an accident waiting to happen. Her reunion with Lynx was one she won’t soon forget and as the puzzle is slowly revealed she may just be the one that holds the key to solve it all.
The chemistry between them is hot, the intrigue keeps you guessing and now they just have to decide if the feelings between them are strong enough to overcome the fact that his life is in England and hers is in the US.
Another excellent Heather Slade book. Even though there are spies running all over the place, this is less an espionage novel as it is a romance book. Lynx and Emerson had one night of romance three years ago and went their separate ways. Thrown back together due to two missing agents, they both want more but face the fact that their lives are on different sides of the Atlantic. Some great love scenes as well as comedic relief with Emerson's ditsy-ness. Wonderful characters, interesting plot, and tie-ins to previous books but still a standalone. Loved it and highly recommend it.
I am so glad that I was lucky enough to get to read an early copy of this book! I abso-freaking-lutely loved it! I have been curious about Lennox "Lynx" since reading Decked and his story certainly did not disappoint. He is so completely alpha yet couldn't forget his night with Emerson "Emme". Emme is genius smart, gorgeous and feisty as all get out who also could not forget about their one night together. When they reconnect, the sparks start flying, the drama is never ending and the steam is amped up. The twists and suspense in this story are amazing and keep you turning the pages.
This was a good Release round for the CHC world. It’s going to be hard for me to pick a favorite for this batch of ten. This was such a cool story with British Secret Agent (James Bond anyone) Lynx and Emerson who is fun and definitely not what you expect for the serious secret agent. With a great story and great characters this is easily a five star read.
