Years ago, he broke me. Now he’s back with a proposition. He needs a fake fiancée, and I’m the one he’s come to.
Audacious— that’s how I would describe him. He was my first love, my first kiss, and my first heartbreak, from which I never truly healed. Kane was once the man of my dreams, on paper—strong, handsome, and a complete charmer. But the problem is, he has never given a damn about anyone but himself. I’ve never witnessed a desperate man until Kane knocked on my door with literally the proposal of a lifetime. I must admit, it’s ironic he’s come to me given the way things ended between us. It’s possibly the worst idea ever, but I need the money. How do I not fall for Kane all over again and risk history repeating itself? Only time will tell.

4 Star Review Audacious Fiance by Liz Lovelock What I love about these collections is that a variety of authors are involved. Australian author Liz Lovelock is a new author to me. This is Jolene and Kane’s story and is a second chance at love/fake fiancee story. Kane broke Jolene’s heart years ago and she has never gotten over him. When he suddenly turns up begging for her help Jolene is shocked to see how desperate he is, she is even more shocked when she hears what he wants her to do. I’m not sure I would have been able to forgive Kane and I think that is what made this a hard story to relate too. However, it’s all about timing and Kane catchers Jolene at a vulnerable point in her life, otherwise I’m not sure she would have agreed. Jolene’s friend Adele added some much needed humour to the story and I really liked her. I liked Kane too but had a hard time relating to Jolene at times. Can Kane convince Jolene that he is worth taking another chance on? Can Jolene forgive Kane and the past or is she in danger of losing her heart to Kane again?
This was a merging of a second chance and fake fiance. That seemed a bit odd to me at first but was willing to see how this author would go about managing it, considering that if it had been me and someone had broken my heart then I wouldn't be willing to jump in and help out by pretending. It actually wasn't that bad. Where I struggled was in the connection and chemistry between Jolene and Kane. For some reason, they just didn't click with me. It might have just been me, who knows.
That being said, it was interesting and the story did keep me reading until the end. This was the first time reading this author and she is now on my watch list.
Book: Audacious Fiance Read By: Ebook Author: Liz Lovelock Genre: Contemporary Romance, Enemies to Lovers Recommend: Yes < b>Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years My feelings:
The Cocky Hero Club collection is a treasure trove for romance readers, filled with both rising and established authors who have crafted stories inspired by beloved characters. In this instalment, Jolene and Kane's tale explores the complexities of a fake engagement that reignites a long-buried love. “Oh, it didn’t just boost my ego.” As fast as lightning, he closes the distance and presses his mouth to mine. Bacon flavour touches my tongue as his dives into my mouth. His hand reaches behind my neck and threads through my hair. I melt into the kiss. It’s everything. A piece of my longtime broken heart lodges itself back into its familiar place. Is this what I’ve been missing? Are we supposed to come together for me to heal?
Years ago, Kane shattered Jolene's heart, but now he needs her assistance to prove he's truly changed. Will she be able to forgive him and play along? With endearing characters and playful banter, this book is a must-read for any romance fan. But as their journey unfolds, will Kane risk breaking Jolene's heart once again?
I hit play, and the show resumes, but my mind isn’t in Stars Hollow. It’s on those lips and how soft they felt, and how I couldn’t help but long for a little sincerity in those three words—you’re my girl. This isn’t how it’s supposed to happen.

The heroine in this one is having a bad week. First she meets her ex-boyfriend Kane who she isn't please to see given how they parted. Then the streak of bad luck continue for Jolene and soon the only person she can turn to for attention aside from the bestie is the last person she wants to see Kane.
She knows his reputation and he hasn't change but when he comes begging for help. She says yes and you got to think what this girl thinking to be his fake fiancee.
This is a second chance romance that doesn't even know that it going to be one. Jolene doesn't even known what she has gotten herself into when she agrees to his plan. She think about others and you have to wonder if she going to think about the consequences for herself.
Jolene has a big secret that is not even hinted until the dying moments of this book. It explains a lot and comes left field but it gives a lot of answers. It a twist I didn't see coming and made sense for the way this romance played out despite Jolene reservations about the situation.
Kane wasn't truly a bad guy. They were young and foolish and I think Kane need time to work things out for himself. Spend some time growing up and he did thankfully at the right time. This was a fun romance that turned into something sweet that just need a little more time. Given the whole reason Kane stuck around in the first place.
Jolene is being hit with a double whammy. First, she encounters her first love, Kane, whom she still has very strong feelings for, while working, and then her live-in boyfriend dumps her. Attempting to get her life together to meet her responsibilities, she is shocked when Kane proposes a fake engagement to ensure that his father doesn't pass their airline on to an outsider. Short on cash, she quickly agrees, but what about the strong feelings for Kane that still exist? Will Kane prove to be as big of a jerk as he was years before?
I had trouble reconciling the fact that Kane & Jolene got together so easily without clearing the air about the way Kane left her the first time around. And I never really got the vibe that they had any real chemistry. The author just seemed intent on arriving at the point in the story arc where they eventually got along without really thinking it through or properly fleshing it out.
The ending was sweet, but not enough to make me fall madly in love/like with the book.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
Audacious Fiancé started out strong, setting up the story perfectly but instead of building on the characters' relationship and chemistry, it just continued in a straight line and eventually fell flat. I couldn't connect with either the characters or their relationship because everything felt really superficial. There wasn't any depth or exploration so I didn't feel any sparks. The fact that there weren't actually any sex scenes, not even ones that fade to black, also didn't help cement Kane and Jolene's relationship.
The story, as I said, started building but suddenly everything happened so fast, like a statement of fact and it was such a shame because the idea and the storyline would have made for a very good story. Even the twist that was right up my alley, didn't tug at my heartstrings and that should have been a MAJOR moment in the book.
Jolene’s day has gone from bad to worse as not only did she run into Kane, the man who broke her heart years earlier, but now her engagement has come to an unexpected end. The last thing she needs is to open up her door and find Kane there looking for a favor.
The timing of Kane running into Jolene couldn’t have been better. He needs to prove to his father that he has left his partying ways in the past and what better way than a fake engagement with a woman from his past. What could possibly go wrong?
He needs a fiancé while she needs to help her family. What starts out as an arrangement starts to feel personal but first they must overcome their past.
Audacious Fiance has so much going on it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. Lovelock wads her way into dangerous territory and at times falls short of finding her way out. Jolene and Kane pack on the drama and bring emotions along for the ride.
Nice fake fiancee romance, well kind of second chance too. But a good read, considering how much JoJo make him work and sweat to win her over. *ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*
Jolene & Kane had a bad break up in college and then they reconnect years later when Jolene finds herself single again after he fiancé leaves her.
However, Jolene has always had strong feelings for Kane despite how they ended. Now Kane needs to prove to his father that he has grown up to run the business. He needs to show he is in a serious relationship.
He propositions Jolene to help him. Jolene is struggling financially due to paying for her sick mothers long term care and her expensive apartment now that her fiancé left. However, when they both started out with their fake romance neither knew how they would end up.
I thought the story had a lot of promise. I did wish it was a little more drawn out and that there was a little more drama between Jolene & Kane regarding their past and how to overcome it. Still a nice story!
Oh, man. Guys, I have really struggled with writing a review for this one. My mind keeps going back and forth on so many items! I went in to this book knowing that it’s not a new idea, the fake fiance things has been done thousands of times, and honestly, it’s usually done better than this.
The story itself isn’t the problem – it’s the writing. There are several areas where I feel a good editor could have really helped this author. Let’s talk about my negatives and then we can get to the fun stuff. First, the writing seemed stilted throughout the book. Conversations between characters were awkward, and Jolene, our heroine, voices thoughts many times that just didn’t quite make sense. I felt as if the author were trying to make her characters sound American, but was throwing in too many words that are just not commonly used by people who grew up in the United States! That is really the root of my issues – I would be reading along, and then the character would use a word or phrase such as “rubbish” or “little nibbles” and it would knock me right out of the story. If the setting were England, or characters were British, then that would be expected, but nothing ever alluded to that, and I just found myself frequently thinking the writing sounded disjointed. I spent a few chapters wondering if maybe they really were in a different country, and then they drove an hour to the Hamptons, and that was settled! It was enough to really disrupt the flow of the story for me, over and over. There were too many awkward sentences to ignore.
Now, for the story itself! As I said before, fake fiance journeys are nothing new, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love to read them anyway! This is a 2nd chance romance, with Jolene and Kane reconnecting after a bad breakup in college, just as Jolene’s real fiance leaves her. Kane has a business proposition to make, as his dad won’t hand over the company private jet business until Kane can show that he has matured and grown up – by being in a serious relationship. Jolene is having financial trouble because her mom is in a long term care facility and she now is paying for her pricy apartment on her own since her fiance left, so it’s the perfect set-up. Jolene’s Australian friend Adele adds a lot of fun and margaritas to the story, and is possibly my favorite character. Kane is sexy and a good main man, but I really struggled with Jolene at times. She isn’t the most likable person, and I ddn’t really find myself sympathizing with or rooting for her very often.
Sooooo, you can see my dilemma here! I have wavered between 3-3 1/2 stars for this. There are SO MANY good romances out there, and so many high quality releases in the Cocky Hero Club, and I just couldn’t connect with this one. I would like to read another book by the author and see if I have similar issues. Everything seemed rushed, and it could be that she was in a hurry to get this finished for deadlines, and I might like her other works more.
Unless it gets a rewrite somewhere down the road, I am not recommending this one. 3 stars.
The last, and least wanted, person Jolene expected to see on one of her flights as an attendant is her former college boyfriend, Kane, the guy who broke her heart when he walked away from her with no regrets. But even though her body still reacts to him, she's not about to get involved with him again, doesn't even want to be in the same room as he. So why does she eventually agree to play his fake fiancée? Money of course. Money she needs for her mother's long term care. Not because she wants to really be engaged to the man who broke her heart...
But during the acting, perhaps those old feelings will come back. Maybe Jolene will see that Kane has changed from the heartless playboy he was in college. And maybe their second chance, fake engagement will end up in happiness after all.
Well this one was kind of a disappointment. I didn't feel the connection between the two characters. I didn't particularly like either character, no, scratch that, I definitely didn't like Jolene, and the story was just kind of boring.
Audacious fiancé is the merging of a second chance romance and a fake fiancé story, telling us readers about Jolene and Kane. This pair have history together, they were a couple however the relationship ended with Kane breaking Jolene’s heart so you can imagine how she feels when she meets him again, she’s even more surprised when she hears the proposition he has for her, the man who left her broken hearted, the man who she still has feelings for wants her to marry him, it’s all fake though, it’s not a proposal from the heart or is it? Kane catches Jolene at a vulnerable time in her live, she’s even more vulnerable with him showing up which could easily explain her reason for agreeing to help him with his current situation by saying yes and agreeing to be his fiancée.
Old feelings resurface and reignite between them with truths being revealed causing them both to hurt, will this pair make it, or were they doomed from moment they began faking it?
Going by the blurb alone this book has so much promise, and it did to an extent, there were a couple of issues I struggled with especially when I came down to Jolene, I mean considering she had her heart broken by Kane it didn’t take much for her to fall at his feet also I didn’t feel much of a connection to her character, considering she’s the leading lady as such I was a little disappointed but that’s just my personal opinion alone please do not let it stop you from reading this book as all in all in was a fairly decent addition to the Cocky Hero Club.
This book is a fake fiance/ second chance romance all rolled into one.
Kane and Jolene "Jojo" dated in college but then he broke her heart. She never really truly recovered from the raw pain that he caused. So when she saw him on her flight all those painful memories came rushing back. Only to go home to find Nathan her boyfriend of three years storming out after finding out she kept her mother's illness from him and breaking up with her. Then non other than Kane shows up at her apartment with a crazy proposition. His father gave him an ultimatum clean up his act get a girlfriend, engaged or married within a year or he is out. He wants her to be his fake fiance because his father is threatening to leave his company to someone else if he doesn't get his life together and give up his playboy ways. Still reeling from her boyfriend walking out and leaving her with the bills she agrees to be his fake fiance since he's paying her. How will they make it work with her still being so angry and hurt with how things ended seven years ago? She also doesn't like lying to his father who she always liked. I liked the premise of the storyline and it started out fast paced but it seemed to just fizzle away for me. I just didn't feel the connection between them as much as I hoped. I love Liz's books but this one wasn't one of my favorites. I did love the character of Adele she was a total hoot.
I received an ARC for my honest review. 3.5 to 3.75 ⭐⭐⭐
Author Liz Lovelock seamlessly slotted her book into the Cocky Heroes book world with connections to Chance, Aubrey and Pixie the goat as well as references to Playboy Pilot. Second chances are a particular favourite of mine, as is the fake fiancée thing, so I really enjoyed reading Audacious Fiancée.
I did feel there was some love between Kane and Jolene, but I missed the chemistry that should have been going on between them given that they were late 20’s and I would have expected some kind of sexual tension going on! Individually they were great characters who were successful in their careers, and from the start I was invested in what was going on between them, so I was a little disappointed that it didn’t develop into something deeper and hotter.
If there was one character that stood out for me it was Kane’s dad. He had his son’s best interests at heart and turned out to be one of Jolene’s cheerleaders. And in spite of the financial chasm between her family and theirs, he was pretty down to earth, even if a little bossy.
It’s a sweet and romantic quick read that I easily got through in one sitting. I love Liz Lovelock’s books on the whole so would recommend it as a good read. 4 Stars💜
My Jojo?? Seriously? The me Tarzan you Jane is not cute and went out in the 1950's. This book has finally made me decide that I am so over books about pushy entitled obnoxious men who think they can treat women like crap and still get what they want because they're good looking and wealthy and women who fall prey to that very nonsense. It isn't "cute or adorable" it's demeaning and no self respecting adult woman would or should take that crap. When someone shows or tells you who they are pay attention. Kane is a jerk and at no point does the author show us he is anything else. No surprise she didn't tell him about being pregnant in college. He'd have run away so fast jed have left bigger skid marks than he did without that knowledge. Kanes parents were pretty awful through most of the book, though his dad did redeem himself in the end. Oh and her best friend Adele should be gone. No one would keep around such a manipulative person on purpose regardless of the end game. Scorched earth. Honestly couldn't stand her from the first time she was introduced into the story. You just knew she was up to doing whatever she thought was best with no regard to her best friend. This was an embarrassment of a story and what makes it worse was that it was written by a woman. Save yourself.

This was a good second chance romance. I think my biggest issue was the reason for Kane and Jolene's breakup back in college. I'm not sure how old they were but just because he basically wanted to sleep with all the girls that were interested in him was very high school if you ask me. Not sure why he was in a relationship with Jolene to begin with if this was the way he wanted to be.
And apparently he never changed his ways, since his father has told him to stop being that way or he won't get the family plane business if he continues down that path. Once he happens to see Jolene again, he decides she would be the perfect person to help convince his father that he has changed.
I was glad Jolene didn't just jump right into bed with Kane. He actually had to work for her forgiveness. There was something that Jolene was keeping from Kane, which absolutely shocked me. I totally didn't see it coming but I could understand Jolene's reasons for not saying anything previously.
Overall this was a good and quick read that I did enjoy.
This is Jolene and Kane’s story and is a second chance at love/fake fiancee story.
Kane has it all, strong, handsome, and a complete charmer. But the problem is, he has never given a damn about anyone but himself.
Kane's father gave him an ultimatum that he can only see Jolene (JoJo), helping him out with. When he suddenly turns up begging for her help Jolene is shocked to see how desperate he is, she is even more shocked when she hears what he wants her to do.
Kane broke Jolene’s heart years ago and she has never gotten over him. Jolene has just broken up with her current boyfriend. Seeing Kane again brings back all the memories they shared. Jolene has been taking care of her mother money wise, and she does need extra money to care for her and for herself to live on. Her ex wants their apartment, and he knows she can't afford it on her own. Will helping Kane be her way to get extra funds to get her mom the help she needs and to keep the apartment?
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.

Audacious Fiance is Jolene and Kane's story, and I really enjoyed their journey. Kane and Jolene dated in college and he broke her heart. Some years later Jolene is a flight attendant and Kane just so happens to be a passenger on a flight Jolene is working, things don't go well when they come face to face...you see Jolene believes she hates Kane for what he did to her in college, Kane has a proposition for her, you see his father has given him an ultimatum, clean up his act or the company his father owns and runs will not go to him when the time comes, so he needs to show he's changed his man whore ways and find himself a girlfriend, fiance or wife and he has a year to accomplish this. His proposition to Jolene is he will pay her to be his "fake" fiance, but given their past will feelings become involved again, and if so can Jolene allow herself to trust that maybe Kane has changed? You'll just have to read this awesome book to find out!!!
4.5 Stars for Audacious Fiance (Cocky Hero Club) Once again I’m finding an author I should have read before now, the Cocky Hero Club collection is great for all romance lovers, giving us new authors as well old and trusted authors we love, all giving us stories all based loosely around trusted characters we love, what a great idea this collection was. Jolene and Kane’s story is a second chance at love whilst pretending to be the fiancé. Kane walked away years ago and he took a piece of Jolene’s heart with him but now he is back begging for help, he needs a fiancé to prove to his father he is a changed man but will Jolene be able to forgive enough to help the man who broke her once before..... This book ticked my boxes, I loved the story, I loved the characters and I loved the witty banter Jolene’s best friend Adele added to the story. Will Kane break Jolene’s heart once again, I guess you need to read the story to find that out.... Looking forward to reading more from Ms Lovelock.
2 stars If you want a book with tons of plot holes and where nothing said actually has any point? Then this is the book for you. I have whiplash from the back and forth going on in jolene’s head. I didn’t feel a spark for either of the characters and I felt like all the development of this couple was off page in the past. I really hate when authors tell you how to feel instead of showing you. It’s hard to me to believe this couple actually lasted because they never really reconciled their past, things were glosses over so even the emotional parts lost its impact. I also thought it was sort of weird how involved Adele was in the story, it was like they were all dating each other. I think I would’ve rated this higher if there were some steamy scenes to off put the horrible writing, but alas there were none. All and all this book is immature, woefully underwhelming and could use some editing. I feel like a lot of the CHC books feel like first drafts.
A sassy 2nd chance romance - what do you do when the boy who broke your heart in college ends up on your flight 10 years later? You don't care because you are in a happy relationship or so you thought until one small secret you kept has said boyfriend leaving! What a jerk
Jolene has had a hell of a day loss of boyfriend bumping into ex what more could go wrong. Ex boyfriend Kane playboy of the jerk of the year tracks you down with a proposition - pretend to get engaged - oh yeah and this is really going to happy after the heartbreak Jolene suffered. Funny thing is she can't say know.
Kane knows he made a big mistake all those years ago but now he sits about showing Jolene the different side to him.
I did struggle somewhat with the chemistry between Jolene and Kane which reduced my rating but that was just me!
Kane destroyed Jolene's heart seven years ago, a time where he meant everything to her and the hurt within her heart was still strong, especially when on a flight during working as an air hostess, Kane is on her plane. the minute eyes lock the pain is evident but to him this maybe his opportunity of a lifetime as he needs to prove to his father that he is in a solid relationship to inherit his fathers company.
Can Kane manage to persuade Jolene to let the past be the past?
With being his fake fiancé he can solve all her problems some unknown to him, but love and hate have a really fine line between them?
This was my first experience by this author and I really enjoyed the push and pull between the characters a page turner for sure.
This is a fun, second chance romance. The storyline gives us two characters, Jolene and Kane, that have a heartbreaking past with one another. They have both moved on in life, but when they bump into each other years later all the hurt Jolene felt way back then comes back to surface. So when Kane shows up at her front door needing her help by posing as his fiancé, she is torn. She wants nothing to do with him yet by helping him she’ll be able to help her ailing mother. She hates him yet he still stirs up feelings she thought were long gone.
This is a fun romance with some twists that tear at the heartstrings and had me flipping through the pages. A Good addition to the Cocky Hero Series.
I had a bit of a hard time with the storyline of this book. Having just gone through a broken engagement with one man, I found it difficult to believe that Jolene would get involved in another relationship, fake or not. Especially since the person asking for the favor was none other than the one who broke her heart so many years ago. I could understand the whole fake relationship with someone she’s kept in contact with, by someone who broke her? Pass. Because how can you pretend at being loving and in love to someone you can barely stand? But as I read, the characters redeemed themselves. Sometimes one or both players in the relationship need time to mature to be ready for forever after.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
Jolene isn't having a great week, and it all started with seeing the one man, Kane, who destroyed her heart back in the day, and she has never gotten over him. Next up is the man she lives with is moving out when she gets home, and then a little bit later, Kane is at her door asking for a favor. Yeah, life keeps getting it's hits in. Kane needs a fake fiance, and he comes to Jolene who needs the money so she agrees to it. I understand that money issue but I'm not sure that I could do the whole fake thing with the man who broke my heart. Yeah, he grew up, but still, I don't forgive easily like Jolene did. Anyway this is just my opinion, so decide for yourselves by hitting those one click buttons! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
