"Here, take this, you need it.” Those words used to mean something different to Adeline Morgan. Once upon a time, they preceded her next high. Now they had a deeper meaning, they were the sacred code of a whisper network of women. Women who'd been helped by The Iron Ladies.
The wives of controlling husbands. The partners of cheating men. The lovers of playboys leading secret lives. As an Iron Lady, Adeline helped them all. And she loved every minute of it.
And with each case Adeline grew jaded. Every man had the potential to break hearts and destroy lives. Until she met the one determined to prove her wrong. He didn’t want to break her heart…he wanted to steal it.
Before becoming a romance writer, Danielle was a body double for Heidi Klum and a backup singer for Adele. Now, she spends her days trying to play keep away from Theo James who won’t stop calling her or asking her out. And all of this happens before she wakes up and faces reality where in fact she is a 50 something mom with grown kids, she's been married longer than Theo’s been alive, and now get her kicks riding a Harley. As far as her body, she can thank, Ben & Jerry’s for that as well as gravity and vodka. But she says that she could never be Adele’s backup since she never stops saying the F-word long enough to actually sing. Danielle writes about kickass women with even better shoes and the men that try to tame them (silly silly men).
~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~ I am going to be honest here...I struggled with this book A LOT. I just couldn't stand the heroine (more about that in the heroine section). I also felt the romance was really underdeveloped and took a huge backseat to the "catching the a$$hole husband" plot. That said, if I set those issues aside, I did enjoy the book as more of a "fun-girl power-mystery" type of thing. It was well written. It was well paced. The plot in regard to the Iron Ladies, and what they do was set up well for an ongoing series. It was humorous. Last, it was all wrapped up in a sweet three years later epilogue.
~HERO~ RILEY...I don't really have much to say about Riley. I think his character development suffered because of the lack of romance in the book. He seemed like a decent guy (apart from the beginning). Loved his sister. Was sweet with Adeline. He was just a little one-dimensional, and his character got lost in the background of the main storyline.
~HEROINE~ ADELINE...What can I say? I just didn't like Adeline. The way she treated Riley at the end, was grade A bitch. She was also too brass. Too over the top. Too in your face. Too alpha. Quite simply...just too much. I prefer that my heroes have the bigger balls. On top of all that, I am fairly sure she was older than Riley as well(?), which as you know if you follow my reviews is a trope I REALLY do not like. That said, she wasn't completely bad. She was a good friend...so there is that. (lol).
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~ There was a lot of great secondary characters in this one. As much as I didn't warm up to Adeline, I am still very curious about the other Iron Ladies. I also liked Riley's sister, and CoCo cracked me up.
~HEAT LEVEL~ LOW. I didn't feel like this was a romance. They flirted here and there, and we get some sexual tension occasionally, as well as one super awkwardly placed sex scene 70% into the book. But If the author was going for a romance book (and I am not entirely sure she was) then she missed the mark, unfortunately.
~ANGST LEVEL - SEXUAL HISTORIES~ Zero. This wasn't angsty in the least. Neither were virgins, and it had been a while since either has had sex. There was also no OW or OM drama.
~IN THE END~ -- Did I enjoy it? Yes and No. The whole Charlie Angels kicka$$ girl power vibe was great. Unfortunately, the romance angle was a complete miss for me. As was the heroine.
-- Will I read the next book in the series? Yes, I am super intrigued by the other ladies and they came across a little less "in your face" than Adeline did. I least I HOPE that is the case.
-- Would I recommend it? Yes, but do not go into it expecting a well-developed romance.
-- Who would enjoy this book? Readers who love super strong and kicka$$ heroines. As well as those readers that enjoy their books low on angst and without a lot of drama.
I really liked the idea of what these 4 women are building, how they have few cases and help women who really need help. I wasn't too sure of their client, Loren at the start, but as things went on she was a good one. I liked how they all helped Loren get out of her marriage and screw over her husband instead of what he had planned for Loren.
What really didn't work for me was the relationship between Adeline and Riley. Didn't see how both of them would pine at the end because it never seemed to get very far. Sure they were sleeping together, but it just seemed like sex to me.
This is a new series and runs alongside the Iron Orchids and you get to see a cameo from a couple of our favourite ladies. Danielle Norman has once again given us a group of badass women that you will become addicted to.
I loved all the ladies in the Iron Ladies, Adeline, Sunday, Melanie and Olivia. They had their own different quirks and skills that made each of them endearing and addictive. I will be honest though I took longer to relate to Adeline. She toughest of them with walls up around her, but once you scale over those walls she is in your veins.
Adeline meets Riley and the sparks are flying, they seem to have this lust/hate relationship going on. Adeline tries to keep him at arms length, shes put on this persona like she isn't interested but yet he sparks something inside of her, she has never felt before and it scares the life out of her. She uses the fact that he's a clients brother as an excuse to keep him at arms length.
Danielle has given us another great series to get your teeth into and leave you in eager anticipation for the next book in the series.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review from the Author
Danielle Norman never disappoints when she releases a new book and I'm really, really digging these strong, resilient ladies and stony guys she's been writing lately. I've got a few books under my belt with this author and she gets better and better every single time.
Roadster is her latest standalone and so so good y'all. Sexy. Sweet. Suspenseful. Unforgettable in a whole lotta ways. Danielle delivers another book that I just couldn't put down until the pages quit turning. And Riley and Addy, well their journey did not disappoint one minute.
If you like your books written with ease and without the over the top conplications with splashes of humor and sizzling heat then Danielle Norman is worth a read.
I'm going to be shut the front door honest with y'all. Tough as nails women scare the crap out of me. I used to tell my husband any woman who has a shoulder tattoo could probably make me pee my pants just by looking at me. I'm a certified wuss. So reading a story about 4 tough as nails women had me both intrigued and terrified. However, with that being said. I will say this. Never judge a book by it's cover/synopsis alone. Because Roaster is so much more than it seems.
Story Line: Roadster is Adeline's story. And before you assume this is strictly about the chick biker gang like in her Iron Orchids series, slow your roll. Adeline loves her bike, don't get me wrong, but her need for speed is definitely not restricted to her motorcycle. Adeline and her 3 girlfriends she met in college started a private PI business. They each have something equally unique to bring to the table. Adeline's weapon? Her sexuality for one. Her MAD driving skills for two. And her smarter than smart head. But girlfriend, you have met your match with Riley. Riley is the brother of their current client - Loren. She's married to a man with too much power for his own good. And she wants out. Because no one wants to remain married to a slime ball cheater cheater pumpkin eater. Riley and Adeline immediately smart visible chemistry. Even her girls tell her so. But Adeline's full of snark, sass and comebacks. Until she snaps. And oh lord, when she snaps? You're going to need a bottle of wine and your significant other/ B.O.B. handy because it is HOT.
Interaction: Adeline and Riley's communication is probably my favorite part of their relationship. She is seriously hilarious. Like, if she didn't scare me with her bada$$ness, I would totally want her to be my bestie. Seriously. No exaggeration whatsoever. She's so funny and has the sharpest tongue. I could learn a lot from her. But she legit has met her match with Riley. Because he does not let her win. He's always got a comeback too. And that totally throws her off her game. Which is, of course, the best.
Laundry: Roaster is a slow burn, but you will hear zero complaints from me here. The first part of the book is establishing the PI business - how it came about, what everyone does and what their current case is. But that only intrigued me more. But this section is about laundry so I'll just skip straight to that. Usually when the super naughty, angsty stuff snaps, it's both parties coming together at the same time. Nope, Riley has left the door wide open for this beauty. But it takes her a while to come around to the inevitable. And when she does come a knocking? EXPLOSION. HOT. DIRTY laundry ensues. And darling, you won't be disappointed.
Depth: The PI business and exploiting the sleezeball really gave this story everything I was looking for. Yes, there's an incredible love story and yes they have dirty laundry, but how these uber intelligent women expose him and free his soon to be ex-wife and their daughter from the hell he created? I loved every single moment of it.
Roadster was not just about a speed loving, adrenaline ride. It was about 4 women who have created an incredible business that helps women safely remove themselves from bad relationships. These ladies are my heros. And it doesn't hurt that this one ended in a perfect happily ever after for Adeline and Riley.
This is a new saga, Iron Ladies, and is situated in the same universe as Iron Orchids and I must say that it was so good. I even dare to say that this is my favorite book to date of Danielle, I feel goosebumps just thinking about it!
On one side we have Adeline, she had it rough and after her rehab, she decides to help women who don't have a voice or forgot to use it, and that's how the Iron Ladies were born. The story starts with a new client prospect, Loren who happens to be the wife of the well respected Mayor of Orlando. And Adeline just doesn't want to work with her, she can't shake the feeling that something is going to happen, it could be because this could be a high profile case that puts the spotlight towards them and what they do... or is it because of the client's brother? Riley is fed up with his in-law, he yells all the time and the worst of all, his niece is paying the ultimate price besides his sister, when Loren ask him to accompany her to a meeting he never would have guessed that the real-life version of a wet dream that he called asshat punk would be crouching under the table at the restaurant of the Bougainvillea Country Club.
So, she hates him, and him, well he isn't sure of what he feels about her beyond wanting her under him or over him or any sexual way he can possibly think of. This sexual tension is so nice and cozy (have I ever mention that I LOVE hate/love stories? yeah... this was good) and most important, (mild spoiler) I LOVE when a character is brave and strong enough to admit with he/she has done wrong (SO STUPIDLY WRONG) and sets her/his mind to change that. Also... I love Riley... he was perfect <3
If you love the Iron Orchids I assure you'll love this even more (if that is even possible...)
I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
Let me introduce you to The Iron Ladies. They are 4 strong women who have been burned by men and want to help other women who have gone through the same things. They seek out the cheaters and bring them to justice in a civil way. They are a secret group who pose as just regular business women. But in reality they are more like spies. And I personally think they should be the bad ass women's club because that's what they are. This book is kicking off this series and focuses on Adeline. She is a roadster. She is a speed demon and knows how to drive. She is outspoken and stubborn and I just love her. The Iron Ladies take the mayor's wife's case. They think it will be the normal case. They will get evidence he is cheating and seek justice for his wife. Well this case proves to be anything but. There are complications and it has us the readers on our toes the whole time. The major complication is Riley, brother to the client and the one paying for the services. Adeline and him butt heads even before the case. And I loved their interaction. They had me laughing out loud so much. And the attraction between them, woo, get some water! I loved every minute of this story. I can't wait for more to learn more about the other ladies. I highly recommend this book. Especially if you are a fan of strong women. This definitely belongs in the kick ass category. Move over Charlie's Angels.
This is a new series by author Danielle Norman called Iron Ladies, and is set in the same universe as Iron Orchids and OMG I am hear to say that it was phenomenal. Adeline Morgan and her best friends/business partners are The Iron Ladies, a PI company of the best kind. Their newest client is Loren-- the mayor of Orlando’s wife. The Iron Ladies are helping Riley’s sister,Loren, with her divorce so her dirty cheat of a husband doesn’t get away with everything! A wrinkle comes in the form of Riley, Loren’s brother. Sparks fly between the Adeline and Riley from their first meeting but she refuses to admit that sizzling chemistry. All of the males in her past have always let her down, so she can’t depend or trust in any man. . She is super independent and gutsy, but it's all a front to hide her soft and vulnerable side. Will Adeline let Riley in, or be too stubborn to let love in ? Roaster is a slow burn love story and it set the pace perfectly. I also liked getting to see the Iron Ladies in action. Riley was perfect for Adeline and the chemistry was perfect for this read. It was sizzling hot and steamy in all the right spots. I xant wait to read book 2 in this new series.
I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
"Here, take this, you need it." Those words used to mean something different to Adeline Morgan. Once upon a time, they preceded her next high. Now they had a deeper meaning, they were the sacred code of a whisper network of women. Women who'd been helped by The Iron Ladies. The wives of controlling husbands. The partners of cheating men. The loves of playboys leading secret lives. As an Iron Lady, Adeline helped them all. And he loved every minute of it. And with each case Adeline grew jaded. Every man had the potential to break hearts and destroy lives. Until she met the one determined to prove her wrong. He didn't want to break her heart...he wanted to steal it.
This book will suck you in from the prologue. Adeline was once an addict. Now she helps woman who do not have a voice. Her newest client is Loren and she is the wife of the well respected mayor. This could be a major case for The Iron Ladies but Adeline has this feeling that something is going to happen. That something just might be Adeline's brother Riley. When they meet Adeline hates him for the jump and he can't decide how he feels about her. He does know that he wants her under him though. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and this book will have you reading well into the night. You won't want to put it down. I loved this story and the characters and can't wait to see what comes next.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has secrets, passion, love, and heartbreak.
This is Addy and Riley’s story. Addy belongs to a sacred code of a whisper network of woman. They help out woman. She is part of the Iron Ladies. You get to meet a few in this story and learn about what they do. Addy is done with men. She does not trust them as they destroy lives and break hearts. But Riley is set to prove her wrong. He wants her but not to break her heart he wants to own it and make her fall for him. Can he get behind all the walls she has built around her heart? Or will her past make her push him away again and again?
I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I am new to Ms. Norman but I love her. I like her straight forward style. If you are easily offended by foul language stay clear but as it is part of everyday life, I see it as fine.
Even though I had not yet read the earlier books in the Iron Ladies Series, I was able to fully enjoy this book as it is a perfect stand-alone. Yes, I believe I would have had more insight into the Iron Ladies had I read the earlier books but Ms. Norman did an excellent job explaining them enough to understand and enjoy.
The story was very interesting and kept my interest throughout. I didn't want to put it down. I wanted to know what happened next. I read the entire book in under 24 hours as a result. It is much more than just a romance book, it includes interesting, relate-able characters as well as intrigue and action.
Ms. Norman has made a new fan out of me and I am looking forward to starting at the beginning of the Iron Ladies Series with Enough.
This is the first book I've read by Danielle Norman and I really liked it. I love when a book has strong female leads. But they have their vulnerabilities that they keep hidden until that perfect partner comes along to share everything with. I also love that these women are going after men who are in the wrong and making them pay. And helping the women get justice and also back to the women they were. To see their worth and their strength. All about women power, women helping women. Only if it would transform to the real world everywhere. I really did enjoy this book and can't wait for the next one. I also am going to check out more of her books. I recommend this book!!
I have come to look forward to whatever this author brings to the table and eagerly anticipate her next story. This is a new series that all holds true to what Danielle Norman values most, strong independent kick ass as women. All of the characters are well developed and had their own defined personalities. I loved Ripley and Adeline's story so much. The tough as nails women with a beaten down past and the guy who proves he's worth her time and devotion. A definite page turner! Can't wait to see who's next!
A great addition to the Iron Orchid series. I totally loved it. Has a grittiness that is often missing from a females perspective, it grips your attention from the first page to the last. It gives you a glimpse into the male orientated world. It I really loved it and cant wait for the next one to come along.
Adenine and Riley didn’t start off on the right foot, but there is definitely some attraction. The iron ladies were helping his sister Loren. Addison has some love and trust issues with men. Can Riley who is a good guy break through to her. Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended
"Oh my god I loved Loren more and more through this book damn did she grow so balls it was bloody fabulous, how just stronger she became when dealing with her husband and I loved it so much.
The plot was great, the writing was amazing, and I loved the story so much. I really can’t wait to read more about these Iron Ladies!"
These 4 women are FIERCE and I loved Adeline's story! This was a great read without the frills and thrills and just told in a way that you feel as if you are sitting right there with the characters. If you like your romances with awesome women heroines, sexy men, great chemistry, intriguing story, and a splash of humor, Getting Even is a great read for you!
Adeline Morgan doesn’t do love or relationships. Instead, she and her group of friends, The Iron Ladies, are the people women in horrible relationships turn to when they have no other way of getting out. With every case she works on, she becomes more and more jaded. She doesn’t believe in good guys, until one man is determined to prove her wrong.
Riley Thomas will do anything to support his sister escape her cheating, stealing, verbally abusive no good husband . . . who just happens to be the mayor. His attraction to Adeline is immediate and he knows it’s shared. He also knows she’s been hurt in the past. Riley is willing to do anything for the women he cares for, however, and he’s about to prove to Adeline that good guys really do exist and that a happy ever after may be in her future.
I have to say, I’m totally intrigued by The Iron Ladies and their secret network for helping women escape bad relationships. I loved that each of the ladies has their own skill set, yet come together to form a flawless team all while being the best of of friends.
Adeline is brash and loud and totally in control, but she uses that to hide her vulnerability. She loves her job and helping women, yet it has left her completely jaded. She’s terrified of being powerless in a relationship and even though she’s falling for Riley, she can’t give in because she sees how so many relationships end.
Riley truly is one of the good guys. He respects the heck out of Adeline and her job and offers support, never attempting to control in any way. He knows that time and patience is the key to winning Adeline, and he is right. Their relationship doesn’t come easy, but he’s willing to fight for both of them.
While this was a romance, I found the book focused more on the current investigation The Iron Ladies were working on, and I really enjoyed it. To me, this book felt more like a Charlie’s Angels investigation than a romance at times, but I was okay with it because the plot was enjoyable and I loved watching the Iron Ladies work to take the cheating, rotten husband down while his soon to be ex wife regains her self esteem and life back.
4 stars for Roadster! I’m looking forward to seeing which Iron Lady is up next in the series.
Roadster shows right from the start just how powerful Danielle Norman’s writing is. With a prologue that not only grips you, pulling you into the story, but also moves you. You know it’s going to be an incredible ride when a prologue gives you chills from how magnificent it is! Right from the start you know there’s no damsel in distress in Roadster. Adeline shows just how strong and bada*$ she is immediately. Even with the overall bada*$ strength of the women in this book and the serious swoon that Danielle Norman does so well there’s still moments of laugh out loud humor that had me occasionally cracking up while everyone around me looked at me like I was nuts. The immediate sparks between Riley and Adeline are electric and filled with banter loaded with expert levels of sarcasm that made me look forward to every second these two were together. In all seriousness though, these two were explosive together and made for one heck of a story! I loved how complex and full of suspense Roadster is. Not lacking in Danielle Norman’s signature swoony steam, but having multiple deep layers to the story making it feel like you’re truly in this world full of amazing women who take care of one another. The message of women supporting women is powerful in this book in a way that will resonate with women all over. Strength, kindness, and love for each other pour from the pages and leave you with a feeling of empowerment and a heart filled with happiness.
Danielle Norman nailed this one. I love her strong female leads she writes into her books and Roadster is no different. She gives us the Iron Ladies which is amazing all woman team that help woman but aren't known in major circles unless you receive a card. These woman are bada$$. Adeline is the main focus in this book. She is defiantly one you would wont in your corner to help take down any man that has done you wrong in your life. She is brash yet knows how to handle each situation with ease. She may be jaded but once she meets Riley all bets are off. You see this change in her that you will love. Riley is doing whatever it takes to help his sister and niece. Once he meets Adeline you can't help but love the banter between them. All the give and take makes for a wonderful build up that will have you fanning yourself some. I love these two. The whole Iron Ladies as a whole our amazing. If you are familiar with Danielle Norman's Iron Orchids then you will be in for a treat when familiar faces make a little appearance. I'm so in love with this book. I can't wait to see more of the Iron Ladies in the future.
I love Danielle Norman! Each book of hers is unique in its own way with tough as nails females and the alpha men who love them. Roadster gives us Adeline and Riley. Adeline doesn't believe in love, she's not a fan of men, and she's also not afraid to say everything on her mind. Riley is infuriatingly sexy and funny. He has a big heart and would do anything for his sister. Adeline is helping Riley's sister, Loren, with her divorce. Helping in a way that makes sure @$$holes like Loren's husband don't get away with everything and making sure the ladies get their fair share. Iron Ladies is a pretty awesome idea and I loved the fact that the Iron Ladies make sure their clients are treated fair while also building confidence in them.
Danielle Norman weaved a beautiful tale of a woman who is bad @$$ finding her Mr. Right. The characters were hilariously awesome, the writing kept me sucked in, and the banter between Adeline and Riley had me in stitches! I'm excited to see more of these wonderful women of Iron Ladies and watching each one meet their match!
****4.5 STARS**** ****ARC Received for Honest Review****
This book is Danielle Norman, mixed with adrenaline, guns and a bad ass car. She writes about these incredible women, the Iron Ladies, who are shrouded in secret and do the jobs that will protect women who are running from abusive, controlling, domineering and cheating bastards.
Adeline is at the center of this book….because there are more to come, and she has a past that has made her hardened to many things and unable to trust anything or anyone, but her Iron Ladies. But this new case shakes her up and the brother of said case, Riley. There is just something about that man she can’t shake off. Riley’s body vibrates whenever she is near. As much as Adeline pushes, and tries to not want what is chemistry driven….as she learns more about Riley, his family and what lies beneath, can she still protect herself-Review by Catherine(Catty)
I have been a reader of Danielle Norman for quite sometime now--she just has the certain way with her words that hook me. Roaster is by far my favorite story and if Danielle's sense of humor in real life is anything like Adeline's, I'd love to be friends with her.
The story itself reminded me of the Sisterhood Series by Fern Michaels, written many years ago. I love a bad-ass heroine, and in this story we got more than one, that is determined to get even or seek revenge when someone has been done wrong. Roaster is just that kind of story. Though the romantic side was somewhat less than I had expected, the story itself was too good not to finish it in one setting.
These ladies had a mission and it was so enjoyable seeing what they were about to come up with next. Norman has that grittiness about her writing that I love and Roadster did not disappoint at all. The Iron Ladies are off to a promising start! Five bad-ass stars!!
Getting Even is my first book by Danielle Norman and I almost didn't get it. I'm so happy I gave it a try. Ms. Norman has penned an outstanding, well-written contemporary romance. The characters in this story are phenomenal and I loved the interactions and dialog between the ladies. Adeline is one of the Iron Ladies, a group that gets women free of their cheating or abusive spouse. Riley is the brother of the Iron Ladies latest client. Riley and Adeline's story is loaded with drama, humor, action and sizzle. This book grabbed my attention from the start and kept me glued to my Kindle until the end. I enjoyed reading Getting Even and look forward to reading more from Danielle Norman in the future. Getting Even is book 1 of the Iron Ladies Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I won a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed Adeline’s job with her three best friends. They help women in bad situations get out of them legally (mostly). I loved watching their client gain back her confidence and protect her daughter. I also loved her and Riley’s meet cute at the gas station! I was really excited to see how they were going to meet again. Riley was so sweet and knew that he had to go slow with Adeline but he was definitely up front about his feelings. Adeline has had a rough past including addiction and parental issues. I felt like her issues were vaguely brought up and never really went into detail about what she was going through in her life now. The author discussed her past but not really how it affects her everyday life. Also it bothered me that she had drug issues and went to rehab but drinks alcohol pretty often. I wish there was more character detail for Adeline but I enjoyed the HEA and the epilogue!
Adeline Morgan hasnt had it easy and as a result she has built a wall around her heart, that is until she meets Riley....will he be able to break down her walls and let him love her?
Adeline has to be hands down one of the toughest ladies i have ever read about, she’s fierce, sassy and very protective. I laughed alot at her one liners and i so badly want to become an Iron Lady.
Riley, man this guy can make me swoon. He has such a big heart confined in one hot package. I love how he stood his ground when it came to Adeline.
This book is everything i want in one of this genre and im really hoping we get books for the rest of the Iron Ladies too. My only vice is that i would have loved to have seen Adeline reunited with some people she left behind. (no spoilers here)
