Mrs. Ambrosia Bloomington, now a widow, is ready to start a new life amongst Mayfair elites without the overarching reach of her late husband, Mr. Harrison Bloomington. With her trunks loaded safely onto her own private carriage, she’s ready to face the world as an independent woman in Regency London.

She does not, however, bargain for cocksure Frenchman, Mr. Charles Cochran Bateman coming along and turning her very ordinary journey into the adventure of a lifetime.

She does not bargain for his laughter, his enthusiasm, nor his Joie de vie.

And blast and fiddlesticks, she certainly is not expecting to experience the sparks that charge the air between them.

And, it seems, apparently, neither is he…

Married to the same man for over 25 years, I am a mother to three children and two Miniature Wiener dogs.

After owning a business and experiencing considerable success, my husband and I got caught in the financial crisis and lost everything in 2008; our business, our home, even our car.

At this point, I put my B.A. in Poly Sci to use and took work as a waitress and bartender (Insert irony). Unwilling to give up on a professional life, I simultaneously went back to college and obtained a degree in Energy Management.

And then the energy market dropped off.

And then my dog died.

I can only be grateful for this series of unfortunate events, for, with nothing to lose and completely demoralized, I sat down and began to write the romance novels which had until then, existed only my imagination.

What can I say...? I loved this book. Initially the title put me off thinking it would be one of the same/different names, but I was wrong. The rave reviews drew me in and (for the most part) spot on with my reading experience as well.

It started out interestingly enough. There were small instances and behaviors that didn’t seem to align with what we regency readers have grown to accept about the time period. However, I found myself rooting for this couple more and more with each chapter. It was somewhat unpredictable (even heart-wrenching), and without the uncomfortable angst some stories with this formula can cause.
It says so much that I would have liked the book no matter the outcome (together/not together). As everything played out, it didn’t feel that either main character was victimized or demonized. So often we’re taught there is always fault and blame to ending romantic relationship. Yes, there were mistakes in haste and bad decisions made. Timing and circumstances are most often the case in life, and I liked how that was portrayed in this book.

There was little to no silly or annoying behaviors on either side (refreshing), and the story was well done.

I listened in audio format with excellent narration by Tim Campbell and Desiree Ketchum. Both performers are favorites of mine as well.

This was an entertaining read with two engaging characters. The story is told from two points of view. The one being Mrs. Ambrosia Bloomington (Aubrey) who was bravely setting out to begin a new life in London. She was a beautiful, young widow who had suffered an appalling marriage to a much older man. The other part of the story is told by Mr. Charles Bateman (Chance). They meet at an inn and they have an instant attraction. They have quite an adventure together but Aubrey feels that Chance is holding something back from her. Chance is torn between love and duty. This had laughter and heartfelt moments and it was a joy to read. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What a great story , so sweet, yet especially tragic for this beautiful young couple.

You feel every emotion that Annabelle writes with these two, from passion to devastation, the two are really put through the ringer.

Their love never feels certain, always another hurdle to cross. Will they ever manage to live together as they wish or does fate intend for them to be always just missing each other.

Wonderful reading , but that’s never a surprise with a writer like Annabelle Anders, she’s just so damn good at what she does.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

I’m not a huge fan of historical romance, but as I’m determined in my mission to read all of the CHC books, I decided to give it a go. I have to admit that the author did a really great job of retelling Chance and Aubrey’s story I’m a regency setting and I found myself enjoying it way more than I had expected. I loved the different take on these characters and it was actually a really refreshing addition to the series.

Despite how popular they are, I’ve never read a Penelope Ward or Vi Keeland book. Therefore, the Cocky Hero Club did not scream out to me in the way it has screamed out to other people. Nevertheless, I was curious enough to give the books a try.

Although I have not read the book Cocky Duke is based upon, I am a big Annabelle Anders fan. Thus, I was more than happy to dive into this one. As is always with case with books by the author, I was hooked on this one. In fact, once I started, I had to devour it in a single sitting.

I was sucked right in by the characters and fell for them in no time at all. They were great as individuals, and as a couple they were amazing. They played off each other so well, and I was desperate for more from them. Add in the fun of their story, and I could not put it down.

Without a doubt, Cocky Duke is another winner from Annabelle Anders. In fact, I’m hoping we get spin-off stories for certain characters we got to see in this one.

✨ Blurb ✨

COCKY DUKE is a retelling of Aubrey and Chance’s sizzling romance (of Cocky Bastard) but set in London, early 1800’s.

Here’s what you can expect:

🎩 A very Cocky Gentleman who may or may not be a Duke.

🎩 A cross country adventure

🎩 A Highly Unusual Pet

🎩 Did I mention a very Cocky Gentleman?

💫 My review 💫

When a widow on her way for a new life meets a man who will alters theirs for ever ...

As I had not read the blurb, being a lucky early reader for this book, I had no idea what to expect from this book, except I love the author and there will be a duke in some way.
And not knowing what will happen what just great, often blurbs influence what I expect from a story as I know at sometime in the story this or that will take place, while here, nothing to tell me which way the story will go.

The story begins as a road trip, along which Aubrey and Chance get to know one another.
This journey out of time is their aside free from society’s restrictions to enjoy forbidden moments to treasure when they will part way .
While on their chance encounter, they first mock the other, soon they need each other and it is on the road they discover their attraction is far from a joke.
The tale is introduced from Aubrey’s point of view, when finally free from her widow’s weeds, she leaves her prior life behind in the hope to a better one. She has many expectations but not to encounter a man who will shaken everything she thought. Her abuser of a husband left her with an altered vision of herself, always belittling herself.
With Chance, she slowly emerges from her chrysalis, to throw out the window the old demure Ambrosia, to be Aubrey, the woman with so many dreams.
She will also learn that alas nothing is without cost.
Chance is on the road to fulfill a promise he can’t break, why meeting Aubrey at this time in his life is the worst possible event.
He is a man of honor, still this interlude which should have remained one, is one of a lifetime. They will both be changed forever.

Mrs Annabelle Anders did it again, she paints larger than life characters, they are all multilayered, with incredible depth.
Without at first giving him voice, I knew he struggled, that he wanted more but refrained from acting on it. Something was eating at him, forbidding him to ask for more from Aubrey. When he finally speaks, he is a man devoted to his family, whatever alas it might cost him. He suffered from his deeds and errors but knew he had no other road patterned for him.
Aubrey is an open book, she feels, she laughs, she cries but hurt, she built a wall around herself to protect herself from further pain. Still she can’t change the good soul she is, thus her own battle to avoid hurting the others.

I would give it 10 stars if I could, I was transported with Aubrey, Chance and Mr Dog. I thrilled, was saddened, smiled, was upset or happy. I lived this book through a kaleidoscope of sensations, and love.
I discovered this connected world to Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s series, now I need to read the first in this series despite it being a contemporary.

I was granted an advance copy by the author,
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Tres' Magnifique! Amazing, Perfect, No, more than Perfect. Romantic beyond words. Going into this story I was thinking light hearted, funny, romantic. So I was not prepared for the deep emotions that wrapped around my heart. Oh yes there is the wonderful humor that Annabelle Anders always creates and of course precious Lancelot that will win your heart. (although it was Guinevere that started it all, kind of..)
Then add in the audible with Desiree' Ketchum, who set the perfect tone and inflections for our heroine Aubrey's thoughts, which was half the book . Then the fabulous Tim Campbell (just talk to me!) voiced the Cocky Duke, aka Chance Bateman, aka sigh worthy beyond belief and I was mesmerized! Yes I sound besotted and I will admit it. Yes, yes I am.
Combine a widow who only wants to be happy and is travelling to London to set up her household, a beyond handsome Frenchman who finds himself without his beloved Guinevere and ends up riding with her in the coach and a sizzling attraction that literally squeezed my heart, and you have one of the best books I have read/listened to this year. I am so glad I listened to this in audible because these amazing narrators make you feel you are there with them and watching it unfold. Of course that would not be possible with the gift this author has in creating her fabulous stories.!

I enjoyed this 1820’s England rework of the contemporary Cocky Bastard book. It was “amoosing”. Charles “Chance” Cochran Bateman, the cocky french duke, has his horse stolen prompting him to catch a ride with the widowed Mrs. Ambrosia Bloomington. The first half of the book is their adventure on the road to London and is from Ambrosia’s perspective while the second half is the fallout and resolution from Chance’s perspective. The book is full of their slow burning chemistry/banter, drama of possibilities, and storylines that tug on your heart-strings. Just like in Cocky Bastard, I enjoyed how Chance murmured to himself one thing and then when Ambrosia questions what he’s said it is always something totally tame and different from what he actually said. Insert sigh here, so once again Annabelle Anders ripped my heart out on the way to a beautiful yet at times vexing HEA for Ambrosia and Chance! And I use vexing because one of the reasons why I love or even hate characters like I do is because they don’t always behave like I think they would or how I would. Which is why I enjoy the escape from reality! I received an ARC of this book and chose to post this review.

Similar to Penny Reid's Smartypants Romance series where the books are set in her worlds but written by other authors are the Cocky Hero Club in which the books are set in the world of the Cocky Series by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland. As readers of Cocky Bastard would know Chance is well - cocky. In Cocky Duke, we have Chance set in a regency romance world. I have to admit, I don't normally read historical regency romance as I am not keen on that era. In Cocky Duke, we first meet Aubrey aka Ambrosia Bloomington who is a widow on her way to London. Our book starts with Aubrey staring out the window at a hottie outside by his horse - that turns out to be Charles aka Chance. He is on his way home to celebrate his 30th birthday. Night falls and it turns out the Inn has no spare beds and the pair ends up sharing a carriage. During their ride to London, the pair start to get closer and we learn about Aubrey's horrible marriage and bits and pieces of Chance's life - yet he remains majorly a mystery throughout the novel. For me, I got a bit annoyed with the talking of Aubrey's past as we know she was married and had sex - but no kissing? We also have to remember this was a regency era so kissing is something that they would do first and not bypass sex, they weren't that forthright from what I have seen in movies set during that period. Of course, the pair goes their separate ways and years pass and Chance and Aubrey are reunited, however, Aubrey is courting someone else. Has Chance missed his well chance with Aubrey or will this Cocky Duke finally get his princesse?

Starring Ambrosia “Aubrey” Bloomington and Cochran Charles “Chance” Bateman.

It was a total blessing to be given a copy of this beautiful story in advance. This was my first Ugly Cry AF of 2020. So much feels, y’all!! I loved every second I spent with Chance and Aubrey... and their road to HEA was delightful, heartbreaking, joyous, and most of all amooosing!!

I love stories where strangers are forced to band together.... where they learn a little about each other and themselves along the way. Aubrey and Chance are two individuals who are thrown together and embark on a road trip filled with hilarious misadventures.

Aubrey is a widow who starts off a little timid and unsure of herself, but she’s determined to start living life on her own terms. She truly blossoms as the book progresses. Chance will pull at your heartstrings. He’s a hero with the whole lotta baggage on his shoulders. He meets Aubrey and falls for her at a not so convenient time in life. So when the stars do align for them... he’s got a whole lotta groveling to do. Totally le sigh!!

This book is interestingly broken into two parts. 1st half is Aubrey’s point of view. 2nd half is all from Chance’s perspective. It actually made this book a little bit more intense not knowing what the other person was feeling and/or thinking. I really enjoyed this format.

I read and loved COCKY BASTARD (by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland), the book that Annabelle Anders got her inspiration from... and I say she did a fantastic job with her version. Even though COCKY DUKE follows the contemporary storyline, it totally holds its own in this regency retelling. The parts where Annabelle Anders deviates a little from the original plot lines are pure magic... and where I Ugly Cried AF!! I truly love her writing style. Heck, Annabelle Anders could probably rewrite the phone book and we’d all oooh and aah over it. That’s why she’s one of my Keeper Shelf authors.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.

My star rating: 5 stars x 100!!!
Ugly cried AF. Major book hangover. Characters and storyline were amazing. Made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will be re-reading this story over and over and over again!!

Cocky Duke by Annabelle Anders is part of the Cocky Hero Club Series. This is a standalone book. This is the story of Charles 'Chance' Cochran Bateman and Ambrosia 'Aubrey' Bloomington.
Ambrosia is done with her year of mourning for the lost of her husband. Ambrosia plans are to start a new chapter of her life in London. But while on the carriage ride toward London she ends up meeting Charles who has been left stranded and he gets a ride with Ambrosia. This leads them into adventures along the way where they become friends but they are both so attracted to each other too. But we learn that Charles has a secret that might change things. Enjoyed this book.

Why haven't I read Annabelle Anders before? She's been on my TBR list. I will definitely be reading some of her other books after greedily consuming this one!

I LOVED this! Historical romances are my weakness and this clicked all the boxes for me. I loved Aubrey and Chance in here. They grabbed me from the start and held on all the way through :)

Annabelle Anders has the knack of pulling the back of your head into her story within the first two pages. Astounding!!

This story will not only pull on your heartstrings but will squeeze it until you're sitting on the edge of your seat chewing on your thumb nail. I love her work!!

Aubrey was married to a man who clearly did not know how to treat women, or anybody for that matter. He has passed and she has spent the last year in the company of the brother and his wife awaiting her freedom and that day has finally arrived! She has boarded a carriage on her way to London to start a new life. Pure freedom, a new home, a fresh start, and no husband for her future. She would begin life anew and enjoy the arts that London has to offer. Course, this man outside the window of an inn en-route to London has certainly caught her attention and who knew how much that man would play on her immediate future plans.

Chance was a man of honor and integrity. He's full of mystery and secrets, but his charm was quite appealing and quite infectious. He catches this slip of a woman gawking at him through the window and has decided to have a bit of fun with her. Who knew that a set of circumstances beyond their control would have them traveling together, as new acquaintances....perhaps friends. Perhaps more.

This story will grab your heart from the onset and not let go. I personally found them perfect for each other but had no idea what his secrets were and why it could stop him from loving Aubrey. You'll find out when you read it, because I offer no spoilers. Only know that it's a read worth your time. I was gifted with an ARC and wanted to leave a review.

I was thrilled to be able to get a early copy of this book, as I had read Cocky Bastard, Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland and this was a mirror of the book in different centuries. Cocky Bastard was from the 21st Century & Annabelle Anders' Cocky Duke, takes place in 1823 Regency England.

The first half of the book is given in Ambrosia Bloomington's (Aubrey) point of view. She is kind, non-confrontational & a lovely young widow on her way to begin in new life in London. She has inherited a townhouse in Mayfair & enough yearly allowance to be self sufficient. Her biggest worry is establishing herself in society.

Chance Bateman gives his side of the book in the second half. He is a handsome, cocky, hilarious man that finds humor in life but he hides many secrets & responsibilities from the outside world. He is travelling to his home for his 30th birthday party but it is obviously not a happy occasion for him.

Due to many unforeseen problems, Aubrey & Chance are thrown together to travel across the country together with her driver & the wonderful little rescued dog, Mr. Dog. I felt all the emotions possible between this couple - I went from laughing out loud to having my heart ache, in the space of a few pages. I highly recommend this book to all romance readers - Annabelle Anders has created the perfect couple to complete the perfect story & I will remember this book for a long time.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

4.5 Stars for me because I like reading books that write with his-her-point-of-view. And I enjoy reading Part 1 of the book because even it is just Aubrey's point of view, the author described more of Chance's behavior so I can understand what is about to happen. Part 2 is Chance's point of view but I don't know what Aubrey's thinking so I am a little bit annoyed and it makes me think that Aubrey is a cheater which I am not impressed at all. Anyway, the story is interesting. Their chemistry is off the chart and their adventure seems to be fun and sweet so yeah... I like it.

This is the first book that I've read by this author and I didn't know what to expect. This book is an historical romance that is set in 1823 and I have never read an historical romance before and I really enjoyed it.

Ambrosia Bloomington ' Aubrey ' is recently widowed and is about to start a new life, she is a very sweet, kind woman that is about to experience something new. But there is one thing she doesn't bargain on and this is a cocky french man who makes her laugh alot, which she She loves.

Chance is a very sexy beautiful man that speaks French and helps Aubrey out of a situation. They end up travelling together and this cocky man is so loving and so very funny.

There is alot of sizzling chemistry between these two characters and they both get thrown together by fate and things start to develop that neither of them expected.
She knew a life with Chance would be filled with adventure and this time she was willing to take it. The problem is Chance has his own secrets that he is keeping hidden.
I felt like this book pulls on all your emotions and you really feel for the characters. This author written this book great and the characters we're really in depth and you really felt what they did. This book is told in two parts and from different points of view which I always prefer, part one is Aubrey and part two is Chance. This was a great installment in the Cocky Hero Club Series and I can't wait to read more.

Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book. ARC provided in exchange for a voluntary honest review.
This book is expected to be released 17th May

Wow! I Loved It! What a Magnificent story, it takes you to the heights of a passionate love swirling down into a vortex of secrets, mystery and heartbreak! Cocky Duke will hold you spellbound from the moment you begin the journey with Chance and Aubreyy until the very end! Annabelle Anders is not afraid to write a story that is heartrending, heart-stopping with characters that are well thought out and each one comes across clearly as their individual personalities become more than just part of the tale. It's an unforgettable romance that brims with tension-building twists, remarkable emotions, witty banter and with one fantastic plot.

I had previously read Cocky Bastard and was interested to see how it could be transformed into a historical setting. Annabelle Anders did a great job of keeping the heart of the story while changing the setting, customs, and manners of an earlier period.
Aubrey and Chance continue to have a great teasing relationship. There are some situations in the modern version that are easier to control/ explain than in a historical setting and I was wondering how Annabelle Anders would handle the main plot twist but she did it beautifully.
You don't have to read Cocky Bastard to know what is going on, this is a totally stand alone book. But, it is interesting to see how the same story can be told in different time periods.

This is my first read of the Cocky Hero Club. I’ve gotta say I surprised myself by liking this as I don’t usually like books set way in the past. As this is set in the early 1800s I’d definitely have skipped it. However I’m glad I read it.

Aubrie is a widow on her way to London for a new start. While travelling she meets Chance and their story is more than they wished for.

I love how the story was told- two parts with two points of view. Great story that pulled on my heartstrings.

Mrs Ambrosia Bloomington is a widow, and she can now start a new life. She meets Mr. Charles Cochran, a cocksure Frenchman. It was quite a fun read too, especially when he carried her out of the coach, with his hands on her bum - patting it and rubbing it! And now there's only one room available. (hubba-hubba!)
I loved reading this very entertaining story, a joy to read. 5☆

“Cocky Duke” is Annabelle Anders Regency era retelling of the contemporary story “Cocky Bastard”, written by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland. There is a whole Cocky Hero world out there that I was not aware of. Consider me informed and my interest piqued.

Mrs. Ambrosia “Aubrey” Bloomington is a widow, who married a controlling man, decades older than herself at a very young age. She did this to ensure that her mother would be taken care of. Serious and at times unsure of herself as a result of her experiences, she looks forward to starting a new life in London.

Mr. Cochran Charles “Chance” Bateman is a gentleman with a sense of humor who is currently enjoying his anonymity. I got a kick out of Chance’s habit of saying one thing and repeating it as something different when asked. There is some mystery surrounding him and while he doesn’t lie to Aubrey, he doesn’t give her the whole picture either.

This story had my complete attention from the very first paragraph. Following a series of events the H/h decide to become traveling companions with the aid of Aubrey’s borrowed coach and driver. Along the way they begin to learn about each other, share some adventures and pick up a smelly four legged hitchhiker. Chance is good for Aubrey as he helps her loosen up and gain confidence in herself. It was so funny when he calls her a “saucy piece of baggage” for doing something unexpected.

Reading a historical romance written in two parts from a duel perspective was new for me. Not fully knowing a characters motivation for certain actions contrary to their personality, caused some serious angst for this reader. Needless to say, I was brought to tears over the heartbreaking anguish and longing that ensued as a result. Annabelle Anders has an absolute gift for providing all the feels and her writing puts my emotions through the ringer. Every. Single. Time.

This book is for anyone looking for a page turner that will be damn difficult to put down. I promise you will be re-reading it again and again. I already did!

I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Mrs. Ambrosia Bloomington is now a widow & at last she can leave the oppressive household of her late husband’s relatives & start a new life amongst Mayfair elites. She does not, however, bargain for cocksure Frenchman, Mr. Charles Cochran Bateman coming along and turning her very ordinary journey into the adventure of a lifetime.
Another well written, engaging, engrossing read. Strong characters with plenty of depth but then the author doesn’t do two dimensional. I loved both Aubrey & Chance who both fell hard & fast for each other but not everything was as it seemed & circumstances meant they had to part only to meet again a couple of years later. A lovely romance that took you through a gamut of emotions as the road to their HEA was strewn with obstacles, did they overcome them? You’ll have to read to see

This is a retelling of Cocky Bastard which I should mention is a book I’ve never read! I tend to really enjoy Annabelle Anders books though, so that’s why I read this one.

This started out a little slow for me in the beginning aka the first couple of pages. We meet Aubrey and she’s staring out the window rather salaciously at Chance as he’s taking care of his horse. I was prepared for her to be very forward and on the fast side and I was prepared not to like it. After a few more pages I was quickly proven wrong and I couldn’t be happier about it. I actually really fell in love with Aubrey as a character. She was so vulnerable, open, and honest. So much so I found her to be one of the most relatable characters. Chance was not as open, but he seemed to be a pretty good man (I realize the title is Cocky Duke, but honestly I didn’t find him that cocky lol). There was something about Aubrey I really connected with though and I really would love to read more about her!

The book is broken out into two sections... the first from Aubrey’s POV and the second from Chance’s. I found myself wishing the whole book was from Aubrey’s POV. I did love the insights into Chance and his thoughts/feelings and backstory. However, I had gotten so invested in Aubrey that I really wanted to know how she was thinking and feeling etc. during the second half, more than I cared about him. Pretty sure I’ll be in the minority here, but that’s okay I’m used to it 😆

Overall I absolutely enjoyed this story and I’d love to see some spinoffs come into play based on some secondary characters we were introduced to! As well as obviously more on Aubrey and Chance.

If you’re a fan of Regency romance I think you’ll very much enjoy this and if you’ve found this as a result of being a fan of the original I say give it a chance, (haha see what I did there). You may discover that period romance is your new thing!!

Aubrey married young and not for love so now that her husband has passed away she is looking forward to experiencing freedom and finally being able to live the life she wants and not the one that was chosen for her. She is ready for a new beginning and is heading to London when a chance encounter with a man needing assistance leads to an experience of a lifetime.

Chance is on his way to the 30th birthday party he doesn’t want to attend when he experiences trouble and Aubrey comes to his rescue. As they travel together they become close but there is a lot that Chance hasn’t shared with her that changes everything.

The interactions between Aubrey and Chance were fun and flirty, the emotions high and the characters compelling.

Told from dual POV, this was the story of Ambrosia and Charles.
Ambrosia (also known as Aubrey) was a widow who had been through more than most during the time that she had been married. But now as she is starting over the last thing she is looking or is a new relationship… but life doesn’t always play fair and when she met Charles in the local pub, it was the start of what had the potential to be something more.
I had a feeling (so did Aubrey) that there was more to Chance than he was saying but would it be enough to derail what they could have?
Could they find a way to make it through the secrets?
Emotionally this was engaging and at times it was genuinely touching, a great read.

Very engaging story of Mrs. Ambrosia Bloomington, a widow planning on starting her new independent life, and Charles Cochran Bateman, a man travelling to his new life, too. The chemistry between these two is instant, and a most enjoyable read. Chance is a very endearing character with his positive attitude on life, his sense of humour and his endeavours to stay honourable with Aubrey. She is also a character you feel you want to get to know and be friends with right away. Once again Ms Anders has written a great story you won't want to put down.

Firstly I should mention- this is a new author for me and I also generally don't read books set so far in the past. However secondly I should mention that I really did enjoy this retelling. I found myself so eager to keep reading and find out what happened next. The whole story kept my interest and had me hooked. I absolutely recommend that you read this book.

It was an amazing read!! The retelling/reimagining of Chance and Aubrey into these characters was *sigh* stunning is what it was. I loved their story.
