About the author

Crazy woman from an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.
I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.
Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

When reading a Stylo Fantome book you know you are in for a treat. This book is dark and twisted, addictive and fascinating to read, I really didn't want it to end. The anticipation was written really well with complex characters that intrigued me so much that I couldn't get enough of them.
Church is a very unusual young man with lots of issues. He is a deep thinker and very rarely speaks to anyone unless of course, he chooses to. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing, a loner with an ethereal quality about him, so when he first gets to meet Emma, his stepsister, he is quite put out and wants nothing to do with her. Emma has other idea's but she also has a past that has damaged her badly which reflects in her personality. Both of these characters are broken, twisted, unique and very different from one another and yet against all the odds are drawn to each other like magnets.
This book takes your mind on a journey it just can't cope with, it is a mind F*** of the best kind and just when you think you know where this story is heading it takes a complete turn and holy moly you'll never guess where this will take you, just brilliant storytelling at it's best and I cannot wait for October to arrive to get my hands on the second book to get more of Emma and Church's story. Brilliant !!

- Reviewed in Australia on 20 July 2018I’ve been sitting on this for some time, struggling to come up with words that seamlessly articulate my thoughts and feelings on this dark and twisted story.
To begin: I wouldn't classify this as dark romance. Rather, I would categorise this as dark, psychological thriller. What the main characters experience isn't romance. Instead it is an unhealthy “romantic” obsession with each other.
So unhealthy, it drives Emma, our starring female character towards developing a terrifying attachment to Church.
"She kept her eyes closed and let out a deep breath. He had a beautiful voice, rich and full. She was glad he didn’t share it with anyone else."
Emma Hartley suffers from deep-seated issues, ranging from crippling low self-esteem, multiple personality disorder, anxiety, etc. After years of suffering from social abandonment and lacking affection, Emma often develops unhealthy attachments to those who grant her attention. So, when she meets the mysterious Church Logan, her mental stability and chaotic emotions take an interesting turn.
"She does have a certain charm about her, even I have to admit. Beautiful and damaged, like a rose in a vase. Lovely and doomed to die."
Beneath the quiet, enigmatic personality is someone twisted, awfully strange and outright terrifying, yet intriguing. He isn't an anti-hero that you will love to hate. He doesn't even have redeeming qualities really. Yet everyone that surrounds Church is an awe of him, because he is that classic tall, dark, handsome and intelligent character.
In classic Stylo Fantome fashion, Church is shrouded in twisted darkness and interesting turns. While this isn’t my darkest read, I do believe this does deserve a warning as it touches on certain topics ranging from psychosis, self-harm and varying self-esteem issues.
What kind of fell down is my inability to connect with these characters, or to really feel that deep connection or chemistry between them. Emma and Church develop a dangerous and detrimental codependancy that’s far removed from becoming even slightly romantic. They have this vile, toxic relationship that is strangely beguiling and horrendously terrifying.
I'm torn between wanting to rate this four stars (because it is abnormal and interesting) and three stars (because I couldn't fully connect with these characters). I suspect the next story will be better as everything should hopefully ease into a more deviant and distorted plot line.
"It’s the best thing ever, fear. It creates focus. It creates drive. ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’, but what creates necessity? Fear."
- Reviewed in Australia on 20 July 2018This is another dangerously good story by this author!
I fell in love with church right from the start!
"Maybe two broken pieces can be glued together to make a whole."
I devoured this story in a day!
- Reviewed in Australia on 25 November 2018I’ve only read The Affair by this author and haven’t gotten around to her other books yet. I thought considering she doesn’t release a book every single week and The Affair was a great read, this book would be of the same quality or even better through time and further writing experience.
It seems people just slap books together these days without anything being properly edited. All that aside, I still enjoyed the book and it may have even received 5 stars if it had have been done with more care.
This book has definitely received more hype than it deserved, like most books. Hyped up and low quality is what the majority of people appear to be happy with. I bought this book and read it in my own time, so maybe that’s the key ingredient missing in today’s book reviews.
- Reviewed in Australia on 8 November 2018Deliciously disturbing. Seeing behind the curtain of a very troubled pair. Can’t wait to read the next book. Great read
- Reviewed in Australia on 30 July 2018I don’t really know what to say about this book. I actually skimmed through a lot of it. Each to their own taste, but not really that interesting. It was a weird read. Some bits had me drawn. But I’m not a massive fan of reading books from a 3rd person perspective. Which is what this book seemed to have done. But then there were parts where it seemed like the character was talking.
I dunno. It gets a 2 star from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this authors books
Verified PurchaseI love this authors books, I especially love how each one is something totally different from the last and I absolutely love it when Stylo Fantome does dark books because I'm left pondering where her mind draws such characters from and how it survived what they do.
Church and Emma are perfectly matched in their ways, both are products of their past that has left an indelible mark on them both yet you will question if they should stay as far away from each other as possible as they feed on each others darkness. Amazing characters that are complex twisted individuals. I adored them both though. They feed on each others darkness and left me wondering exactly who was the one leading their path through the chaos they are together?
This is a read that totally sucks you in and takes you on the best rollercoaster of emotions , and is excellently delivered, just as you think you're going one way there's an hidden angle that gives you whiplash.
I really can't wait for the second book to see where Church and Emma's story goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dark and Twisted love story
Verified PurchaseI’ve taken far too long to write this review and I know it’s because I wanted to process my emotions after reading Church. I’m pretty sure I hated this story. The same way I hate peanut butter cups; because they’re so delicious, I have no self-control around them, and I’d kill for just one. I just can’t figure out if I hate it more than I loved it. Because, make no mistake about it, I absolutely loved this Dark, twisted, effed up love story! It’s a case of a negative charge plus a negative charge equals a positive nuclear bomb going off. Patrick Bateman, meet Harley Quinn.
Church gave me chills more than once, and I felt all kinds of emotions reading it, not to mention a little hysterical laughing, too. But I think that was out of fear mostly. This story is a tragedy with heartbreak and love all mixed in.
Emma was raised by Margo, who hands down deserves a Worst Mother Alive medal, and at twenty-two she’s still living with her. Not because Emma wants to but because Margo put her in a situation she can’t get out of, just yet. Things are a little better now thanks to her current step-father, Jerry. Until his son, Paul, moves back home. Or Church, as he’s known to everyone and not for good reasons.
“Church is…Strange. I don’t how else to describe him. Because he’s…strange. Look—he’s smart, okay? Really smart. I’m talking Mensa candidate, Ivy League, perfect SATs, all that sh** kinda smart.”
One of the reasons Church is so feared is because he doesn’t talk to anyone, just observes and takes in everything around him. Emma doesn’t fear him; she’s intrigued and soon obsessed.
“Church was like a computer. Things went in, he collected data, and he could read it, interpret it. But he didn’t necessarily understand all of it, and especially not when it involved feelings.”
Church’s reason for moving home isn’t exactly what his father was led to believe. He has something in mind and when he finds out he has a new step-mother and step-sister its best they not get in his way. Then he realizes Emma is a kindred soul that could understand him without the need of useless words; this could be a good thing for him, or so he thought. Because he doesn’t really know Emma, or what she’s capable of.
“Two could play the silent game, and she was better at it. She spoke his language, but she was confident that he didn’t speak anyone’s language.”
These two should NEVER have met. But then we’d be missing out on this unimaginable love story.
“He’s it. He’s my moment that I’ve been waiting for. He’s the greatness I’ve been missing.”
I usually get a “vibe” from a really good story (because, duh! That’s how I know it’s a really good story!) and either a movie or song will pop up and invade my mind, subconsciously, while I’m reading. American Psycho and Natural Born Killers would come to mind, frequently. And trust me, this is NOT a good thing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Into Madness
Verified PurchaseI bought this book on a whim when I was looking through new books and stumbled onto a review of this book. The tagline and the synopsis of the book hooked me right away and I had to read it. I love novels that are dark in nature especially if the characters are unusual. Church was definitely an unusual character and diving into his mind was an interesting experience. I was happy that the author chose to have his point of view in the book although I would have liked to have had his point of view more often. I also liked Emma because she was a tough girl who tried to push the world away in a sense, It never gave her any favors. She had been treated poorly in her life and was still suffering the consequences of the actions of others on her life. There were times when I wasn't sure who was coming out on top in the battle of manipulation and wills between the two of these characters but I enjoyed the ride. It is a psychological thriller for sure and the author did a fantastic job of showing the decent of both of these characters into their darker selves. This is definitely not a love story so if you are looking for that you will be disappointed. This story focuses more on what it takes to push someone over the edge and obsession. I'm excited for the second book and hope to explore each of the characters even more. I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last or the worst of them yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars. Not the usual kind of hearts and flowers romance and not for the fainthearted!
Verified PurchaseOMG!! This has to be the most messed up book that I have ever read. It really wasn't the usual hearts and flowers style of romance that I normally read. "Church" was dark, dangerous and disturbing. A twisted tale of power and obsession. If you are looking for a swoon-worthy love story, turn around now, this is not the book for you. However, if you are in the mood for something different that will take you out of your comfort zone, this is well worth the one-click.
This novel sees the story of Emma and Church. Two people who are both different from the norm, who find a connection with each other that sees the start of a wicked plot. What played out from then was a tale that shocked the hell out of me, but at the same time, I couldn't stop reading. I could never in a million years have predicted what was happening in the pages before me. My stomach was in knots as I realised the darkness that surrounded both Church and Emma.
With brilliant writing and an evil story-line, this is a book that I would recommend. But it's not for the fainthearted. Now, I have to wait for book two and I can't wait to see what happens next.
