Filthy Firefighter

Rate this book
He looks like he belongs on stage, stripping out of his firefighter uniform, not running into a burning building to save me. But thank God he did.

When the smoke clears and my eyes focus on my savior, one look at his gorgeous face and tattoo-covered muscles, I know he’ll be too much for me to handle. It’s a good thing I never have to see him again, right?

Except, losing my home in a fire means finding somewhere new to live, and guess who just happens to be my new roommate? Hayden Flynn. The filthy-talking firefighter who’s been front and center of all of my dreams lately.

Our attraction is undeniable, but it’s the adventures he takes me on that has me falling for him, each new experience chipping away at the wall I’ve been hiding behind.

He wasn’t supposed to see past my scars.

He wasn’t supposed to break me apart piece by piece, then put me back together again.

He was just supposed to be a firefighter. I didn’t expect him to end up saving my life, in more ways than one.

Filthy Firefighter is a standalone story- inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Bastard. It's published as part of the Cocky Hero Club world, a series of original works, written by various authors, and inspired by Keeland and Ward's New York Times bestselling series.

Filthy Firefighter by Emma Louise is part of the Cocky Hero Club. I was first drawn to this book by the cover. I mean, just look at it! But when I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with these two.

First, I want to tell you about Hayden Flynn. He is a confident, tatted up, dirty talking fire fighter. Hayden is a southern boy. I have a weakness with a particular endearment, one that makes me swoon every single time. And the icing on the cake with this book is that Hayden uses it. He says “darlin’!!!” Oh my gosh! He had my butterflies in full flight. Hayden works crazy hours and has never had time for a relationship. Never felt any need for anything more than hook ups. But then they got the call for a fire with a woman inside. All he had to do was look into those eyes and he was gone.

When you finally meet that someone with whom even your wildest of dreams line up. Don’t let that someone go...

Adele Bateman is twenty eight years old and works as an accountant. A safe, secure job for her safe, secure life. Adele has a dark past, a past that has affected so many people she cares about. A past she will never forgive herself for. Adele has walls upon walls built up around her for protection. But the night of the fire, when the firefighter carried her out, there was a connection. She couldn’t look away.

For weeks both Adele and Hayden continued on with their lives, both reliving those moments over and over again. But then fate brought them together again as surprise roommates! Adele did what she did best, stayed hidden, kept her walls up. But Hayden was so intuitive. He just saw her somehow. He seemed to know how to draw her out, how to get her to smile, how to get her to relax. But Adele knows that she can never be good enough for this wonderful man. If he knew, he would most definitely walk away.

“I’ve never wanted anyone like I want her. I want every part of her to be mine.”

I loved everything about this. It was a pretty quick read. Or, I just couldn’t put it down because I read it in one day. I loved the effect Adele and Hayden had on each other. And that epilogue! The best! This is a sexy, steamy, sweet book that I am so glad I decided to read. It is my first Emma Louise book but most definitely won’t be my last.

“Adele is everything I never knew I wanted.”

Hayden is a fab fit for Adele, and the heat between them had me smiling.

An enjoyable light little morsel. Be aware it is a quick read, think it would have been awesome if it had been fleshed out a bit more as a tale.

Acquired via KU, this had me keen to read more books from the series and luckily they're all on KU.

I guess today I have a thing for quick-paced, steamy reads!

This one was super cute — Hayden and Adele meet after Hayden saves Adele from a fire. That meeting wasn’t the last of them though, they meet again through a “small world” occurrence, which is the start of the book.

I will start by saying that I will try to get my point across without any plot spoilers....

While I thoroughly enjoyes the book, I didn’t not love it. This is because just as I was was starting to get into their love story aka it was just starting off, the accident incident happens and it ends on a cliffhanger before literally moving on to the 16 months later epilogue that tells rather than shows what happened.

I feel like the book could’ve been more than it was — or, well, the ending could’ve been more than it was. It made the story feel shortened. But in all, I really did enjoy it.

I still think that if it came down to it, I’d probably reread this book though because Hayden is such a sweetheart!!!

I really enjoyed this read. It had a slow burn that sucks you in. I loved how the first half of the book basically sets you up to believe certain things are going to transpire, then it quickly changes. So there is a nice refresh on the scenery as the main event begins to unfold.

Overall it was a story about finding your passion, but also realizing we all deserve to have the love we know we deserve. That being our authentic selves is the best version of who we are and why. I enjoyed watching the story navigate and emphasize those truths.

The story ends in a very over the top HEA. But you don't feel silly about it, you realize on the last page that this couple deserved this ending. They worked really hard to find a place they could nurture and grow their love. So I supported the HEA and was glad to see it.

This is a new author to me and I’m glad I started with this story! This book was freaking awesome and it won’t be my last read by the author!! Adele has always been dependent on people for her happiness and when she breaks up with her boyfriend she is floundering. He was a safe choice but he didn’t get her motor revving and she finally realized that and had to cut him loose. One night she sets her bathroom on fire and a hunky AF firefighter rescues her. Their eyes lock and they are both goners. Hayden eats, sleeps and lives for the job but when his eyes lock on Adele it’s game over. On a twist of fate Hayden and Adele become roommates and he saves her in a completely different way by pushing her out of her comfort zone repeatedly. Will their relationship burn brightly or will it go up in flames? I highly recommend this book!!

FILTHY FIREFIGHTER was a quick and steamy read. Another of the Cocky Hero Club series, this one is perfect for fans of Chance and Aubrey from Cocky Bastard (they are featuring heavily in these books and I am loving it!!) While I loved the characters of Adele and Hayden, I felt like I was just getting into their story when all of a sudden it was over. I really would have loved this one to be slightly longer and the ending not so rushed. Overall though it was an enjoyable read and a great addition to this series.

Filthy is right.

I enjoyed this quick read about a sexy AF firefighter and the beautiful Adele Bateman. She is the sister of Chance from Cocky Bastard. Remember him? I sure do - I loved him. And we get to see Aubrey and him in this story quite a bit. I was very happy about that.

What else I was happy about, was one Hayden Flynn...southern man who says darlin’ just the right amount of times, who has muscles and tattoos galore, is a brave firefighter, and has a delicious dirty mouth.

Adele finds herself needing to be rescued from a burning house. Enter Hayden. He bravely busts through the door, grabs her, and gets her to safety. When she opens her eyes and sees her savior, even under the circumstances, there’s no denying the instant attraction between them.

No names or numbers were exchanged, because they’ll never see each other again after this, right?

Wrong.

Imagine the shock and surprise from both of them when they do meet again. And that was quite the meeting, I must say. *waggling my eyebrows*

I loved their chemistry, the sexual tension was thick. Their witty banter was adorable and fun and made me like these two that much more.

I really, really wish there would’ve been more between chapter 24 and the epilogue. I loved the epilogue, but I wanted & needed more after chapter 24. That being said, I still enjoyed this story.

Filthy Firefighter is a great addition to the Cocky Hero Club world. It gave me smiles, laughs, and tingles. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more!

*I listened to the first half of this on audio, which was great - the narrators were perfect.

5 Star Review Filthy Firefighter by Emma Louise

I was intrigued by the blurb, particularly when I realized that the heroine was Adele, Chance’s sister from Cocky Bastard, a book I absolutely adored and could not wait to read and review, particularly since Emma Louise is a new author to me. Although this is a quick and steamy read, Ms.Louise certainly managed to pack a lot in to the story.

Hayden Flynn is a hunky firefighter who is totally swoon worthy. When he rescues Adele, from her house fire, he is attracted and intrigued by her but unfortunately she is transported before he gets a chance to really talk to her or get her name.

When fate lends a helping hand Hayden and Adele meet again, becoming roommates. Set in Hermosa Beach, it was great to catch up with Chance, Aubrey and of course their goat Pixy. I loved seeing what they were all up to and the fact that Adele is his sister just added an extra layer for me.

I kept reading way into the night as I had to see what was going to happen next; I really didn’t want to put it down. That is how good this book is, with strong writing and characters that draw you in, you cannot help but become invested in the story that Ms.Louise weaves.

Filthy Firefighter invoked laughter, anger, sadness, pride and disbelief whilst reading. Adele has overcome so much and my heart went out to her as she struggled. The chemistry between Hayden and Adele was instantaneous and it continued throughout the book.

It was an entertaining steamy read that left me with a smile on my face.

Flirty Firefighter is an endearing and emotional story that is beautifuly written by Emma Louise. I was so excited when I found out that this book would featured Adele Bateman, Chance’s sister from Cocky Bastard. I always loved her character and was equally elated to see that her love interest would be Hayden from Emma’s Flawed series. A character whom I was dying to see get his own story!

I adored this Adele and Hayden’s love story. The connection between them was undeniable and their chemistry was off the charts. I absolutely loved their interactions with each other from the banter that they shared to the heartwarming moments between them.

I really enjoyed this story. It was overwhelmingly sweet and romantic, low on the angst but at the same time was also steamy and hot. Another great addition to the COCKY HERO World.

5 Adele and Hayden Stars

This was a really enjoyable read that had me hooked in from the start.

Hayden (30ish) is an ex soldier who is now a fire fighter. We first met him in Fixed , he is Duke's best friend and served with him in the military. Hayden has left Savannah and moved to California for promotion and also he has seen all his friends settle down and start their own families. He really is a heart stoppingly gorgeous Hero.

He is funny and outgoing plus he rescues people, including Adele. He was so determined to bring her out of her shell. He saw her beauty but he was intent on seeing past that , helping her to live her life again. That said, he definitely calls her out on her grumpy moments.

“Can’t you just accept my apology? I was having a bad day, that's all.”
He looks me over like he’s actually debating on whether or not he can accept it.
“No,” he says bluntly. “I don’t think you really mean it.”

Adele (28) is the kind of heroine that you want to hug , cheer for from the sidelines and help her fight her demons and this girl really does have some demons.

She has been through some awfully traumatic events as a young adult and although she has left that behind , the spectres of her past still haunt her. Watching her do something as simple as forge a friendship with Janey , her office colleague , pulled my heartstrings.

She’s blowing up my Instant Messenger, keeping me up to date with all the latest office gossip. I want to say that it’s annoying, but I secretly love it. I have a friend. Not someone who has to like me because we’re related, or because they’re friends with my boyfriend. Someone who’s spent time with me and liked me.

This book could have gone down a fairly downbeat path because some of the topics it embraces are bleak but the author has managed to balance it all so that the sadder parts are powerful but ultimately I felt like a read a gorgeous love story about two characters who I was really invested in. There are funny and endearing moments and the opportunity to catch up with characters from other books in the Flawed Love series. Also , Adele's big brother , Chance is the Hero from Cocky Bastard which is a book I have had on my kindle TBR for ages. (It is now lined up to be read asap).

I'm so glad I have discovered this author and the world of characters she has created.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? Yes

Another new author and while I liked the book I didn't love it, not saying that I wont ever read her books however it is not someone who I will go out of my way for. So we have Adele who is someone that counts on too many other people not herself, she finally realizes that she is with her boyfriend who she really doesn't seem to have a passion with but he safe. She decides she wants more and breaks up with him. She unfortunately of fortunately which ever way you want to see it she sets her bathroom on fire and the hotest firefighter comes to save her, someone she probably will never see again however she does because he ends up being her roomie, lucky for her. I wish we got to know them more that is probably my biggest issue.

Oh wow this was a good one. Short but good.
Adele has been through some hectic issues in her past and that has led her to being a conservative and very uptight. At work she has no friends as she keeps to herself as she does know how they would feel about her past. She broke up with a sweet gentle caring man as she started freaking out when he was talking about marriage.
Until one night she took a bath with some candles to relax and almost burn down her house, and that's how she met Hayden Flynn.

Hayden can't seem to stop thinking about the women he saved until he walks into his house and see his new roommate... Adele... The women he saved. As he gets to know her he can see that his work is cut out for him as Adele has some deep hurts that he knows he will gladly help her get over but first he needs to convince her to give them a chance💖😊

I really enjoyed this. It was sweet, romantic, low on the angst but it was also steamy and hot😍😍Hayden was so patient and sweet with Adele and even though she tried to push him away he didn't give up. A good addition to the COCKY HERO Universe😍💖

He looks like he belongs on stage, stripping out of his firefighter uniform, not running into a burning building to save me. But thank God he did. I really liked this book it was such a sweet romance, the story line was simple with some angst, the characters were very lovable and the sex was hot, the only problem that I had was that it finished so abruptly when there was so much more to go on. All over this was a very enjoyable sweet read.

Filthy Firefighter had the potential to be a wonderful read, but it wasn’t quite enough for me. I was hooked at first, but the end felt too rushed for me.

I think my problem is that I expected more depth considering the topics handled in this one. I was ready for all the angst and emotions, and I never quite got them. I really enjoyed the characters, but once things started to get heavy everything was rushed and over with quickly.

All in all, this was addictive, but it wasn’t quite everything it could have been.

This book is about love, understanding and most importantly forgiveness.

Thank you for giving Adele her chance to tell her story as also the emotions that came from this book is beyond phenomenal.

The best thing about this book was the cover. This was a very typical hot firefighter/sweet girl looking for love romance. It was a fluffy feel-good read, but didn't leave much of an impression. Great if you are looking for a nice, stress free read with an alpha who loves the h like crazy.

What a great story for our favorite Cocky Bastards Sister💖

Obviously you just have to get this book if you loved Chance‘s story because you‘ll get a few scene with him but also it‘s his sisters book.

Adele is a very strong woman. She had to deal with so much stuff in her past, I can‘t even blame her for wanting to feel safe in every aspect of her life. But that‘s not how life goes and she meets this hot, filthy firefighter Hayden who saves her life in more ways than one. Hayden also as a hard past which make those two so great for eachother.

I was so shocked at how the events in this book turned out. Especially these last few pages before the epilogue. I was about to throw my Ipad around!

GAH, I really wish this story was longer! The ending came at me too quickly! *cries* To me, the best feature of the story is the slow burn journey. Hayden has a lot to chip away at with Adele but he is persistent, and patient and it pays off! The close proximity trope to this story was a perfect choice for this book. Very low on the angst but not emotion. Adele’s insecurities made my heart heavy at times and Hayden made my heart soar all the time!! Again, another new-to-me author that did not disappoint overall!

Excellent addition to the Cocky Hero Universe AND Cocky Bastard World!!

Filthy Firefighter is THE Cocky Hero Club book to read this summer. I decided to jump into it because the blurb grabbed my attention, and I'm so glad I did because it's a page-turner, can't-put-it-down, took-me-out-of-a-slump book. Brilliant storytelling and impeccably written by Emma Louise. I've never read a book by this author, and I'm so glad I took a chance because it was everything I needed.

Based on the world created by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland, Filthy Firefighter follows Cocky Bastard's Chance younger sister, Adele Bateman. She is determined to not let the past dictate who she is, yet she doesn't let go of the past nor she forgives herself. Adele meets cocky and sexy firefighter Hayden Flynn when he rescues her from a fire in her apartment. Their attraction is instant, and fate will make sure they bump to each other again. Because guess who becomes Adele's new roommate?

The story is filled with slow burn and build up. They are simply meant to be. Hayden's charm is hilarious and swoony. He gets the real Adele, even without her being open about her insecurities. Hayden knows who he wants, and is willing to not let go. And when they are finally together, it's amazingly explosive. And the surprises! Shh... better to read the book to find out about the plot twists.

Filthy Firefighter left me wanting more because this couple is unforgettable. So being a greedy ready, I want to see more of them. But I was also happy to catch up with Cocky Bastard's Aubrey and Chance. I can't recommend this book enough!

Filthy Firefighter is a part of the Cocky Hero cub Universe and a spin off of Cocky Bastard I believe. I haven't read the book it is loosely connected to, and I had no problem in reading it as a standalone. Filthy Firefighter is centred around Hayden the Hero - a fireman that is called out to a house fire and rescues Adele the heroine. After the events of the fire neither characters can get the other out of their minds and Adele is in need of a new apartment. Her friend hooks her up with a rental she cannot refuse only to discover her new flatmate is Hayden, and it's a great meet cute moment.

Adele is a likeable heroine, she has sass and she has overcome a lot of demons to get where she is in her life and I admire that. Hayden oh Hayden, he is the perfect Hero for this story. He is a fireman, but a man with charm, a sense of humour and a man with honour. I know Hayden from Emma's Flawed Love series, and I was so glad to see he was getting his own story. This book was full of banter and a strong sense of family, and it was a easy read romance that just hits that sweet spot. With some angst thrown into the mix as what romance is complete without some bumps in the road and a Pigmy goat thrown into the mix.

This is my first from this author and my first from this supposedly standalone yet not really series.

I cannot say I was a fan of Adele, she is whiny and bitchy at times. She states over and over and over again about her bad past decisions and how distraught she is about what it did to her family. I've not read Chance and Aubry's story but her repetition of it in a 4 hour story gets a tad old.

I did like Hayden, no complaints for him.

As for the story the author gave this couple the glimmer of a start of a relationship and then the tail end. We are never given a true middle and for me that is the good stuff.

The ending felt rushed, and the end of the last chapter before the epilogue did the same thing that bastard book Cake did. That is about the worst way to "end" a book, even with an epilogue you deny the reader reconciliation.

As for other stories that I'm sure are out there, I am curious about Duke and his story. And I am hoping her sweet ex-bf Harry will get his own story.

Narration: Christian Fox = swoon, I did laugh a bit a his Aussie accent but over all it was not bad. The female narrator was ok, but she may have added to my feeling that Adele was whinny.

Hayden and Christian are why this is a 3 star and not a 2 star

There was much to enjoy about Filthy Firefighter, I mean just look at that cover. 5 alarms, indeed.

Adele is a young woman wrestling with herself. She's got a good job, a great relationship with her brother, etc but she holds herself away from people. Meeting the man who saves her from a burning building makes more of an impact than she's realizes. Sure he's ridiculously attractive but he's also breaking down all her walls.

Hayden is exactly what Adele needs. He's a man who carries such incredible responsible on his shoulders but does so with good humor and charm. He wears it effortlessly. The lightness in him wars with the darkness she sometimes feels.

I enjoyed this story and thought the characters complemented each other beautifully. My only complaint is the ending felt abrupt. I felt as if their story really just began and then I was suddenly reading the epilogue. I wish we'd been allowed to see more of their life together, after all they fought for it. Great read.

Adele has had her share of trouble in her life. From bad relationships to substance abuse. Now she is trying to live her life wanting to keep her past from everyone she know. She carries around so much guilt about the pain she caused her family. After deciding the relationship she was in was not what she really wanted, she decides to end it. When tragedy strikes again Adele finds herself in her apartment full of smoke, trying to escape. When she wakes up she is met by the most amazing eyes.

She can't believe he saved her. She can't take her eyes off him and neither can he. Adele moves to a new place with the help of a friend only to find out that the firefighter she has not been able to stop thinking about is now her roommate. Their chemistry is undeniable but Adele is not sure she is ready to let him Into her life. Into her past. She would have to share with Hayden all of her secrets. Will it change the way he feels about her or will it show Hayden how strong she really is.

Another Perfect offering for the fans of the Cocky Hero Club series. Did you love Chance and Aubrey from Cocky Bastard ? Ever wonder about Chance’s sister, Adele? This is the perfect story for someone who had been through so much. I really love the intensity of I loved the characters of Adele and Hayden. He saves her when her house catches on fire only to end up his roommate. Adele and Hayden each come into the story with their own baggage and you just know once they shed it that their love is one for the ages.
I wanted more of this story. I wanted more of them. They are just one of those couples that sticks with you. Often when you fall in love with a story there just isn’t enough of it. The ending felt a little rushed. This was a quick and easy read. I would give it a 4/5, simple because the ending was rushed. It is a really well-done story.

Adele has recently ended her relationship with her sweet and sensitive boyfriend as she wants the kind of love that her brother Chance and her sister in-law Aubrey share. A candlelight bath goes awry and her apartment catches on fire when she is rescued by a sexy firefighter.

Hayden was drawn to Adele from the moment that he saw her and although he never expected to see her again he was very happy when destiny brings them together and she is his new roommate.

The more time they spend together the more he wants to know about her, and he is determined to show her how to have fun and not take everything so seriously and he may just be the man to help her realize the mistakes of her past don’t define.

This story not only has hot chemistry and humorous interactions but it also has quite the emotional pull as well.

Y'all this book totally pulled on my heartstrings! While this was a quick read, it was extremely enjoyable. I would have liked to see it a bit longer and drawn out, but Adele and Hayden were amazing to read about. It was emotion and I really liked seeing how Adele has worked so hard to change her life, but also making it a life she wants. I very quickly became invested in the story and the characters and think that Emma Louise did a great job- read this story! I give it a 4.5 outta 5 and enjoyed the romance and chemistry between the characters.

Her Hero, His Forever

I had seen the Hero Club books on social media in the past but I'll admit it was this cover that had me doing a one-click pre-order.

This story took the typical H and h stereotypes I'm used to seeing in romance stories. This time it was Adele who had the past full of trauma and scars, it was a story of her letting go of the safe and staid life she now lives in order to truly live again.

Hayden came off as the cocky, HOT, firefighter looking for a good time at first glance but he really was SO much more then that, a truly amazing caring guy who feel hard and fast for Adele.

I am so glad I gave this book, author, and series a try. I'm looking forward to reading more from Emma and the Hero Club in the future.
