A year in Australia working as a doctor sounds like a great idea to Autumn. She can escape the cold English weather, her ex-husband and a stalker. A year to get her life back together and not have any romantic involvements.
‘Love them and leave them wanting’ is Brett’s motto. That is until he sees Doctor Autumn Blake. This lady just might get through that tough layer he has built around himself.
Can the sexual chemistry they feel be just that, or could it be more?
Is one year long enough for these two people to forget their pasts and grab onto a chance of love or will they lose it forever.
Maggie Mundy lives in Adelaide, Australia and is a member of Romance Writers of Australia, and the local chapter SARA (South Australian Romance Authors). She has also performed for many years in corporate entertainment for which she wrote her own sketches which probably explains why her head is so full of characters. She loves writing romance but thinks falling in love can be scary, especially in her stories where creatures of the night really exist.
Unfortunately, this story did not work for me overall. There are a lot of plot points happening in this story that overwhelmed me as a reader. Not that they did not make sense per say but they just made the story overwhelming, with too much conflict and angst. UGH I just had to erase three sentences of explaining this because they give away the story! I don’t want to do that because this could very well be a me thing. Hence why I am middle of the road with my rating. There’s a sentimentality that is woven into the story that adds a lot of depth to Autumn’s character and I appreciate that the author represented her properly, or at least it read that way to me. So, I’m not sure whether I’m recommending this book or not LOL but I'm not not :)
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I didn't really know what to expect. This book is part if the cocky hero series and I really enjoyed reading it. This has sweet romance, suspense, twists, love, laughs and hope and its a fabulous read that I defiantly recommend reading.
Autumn has had enough of things and wanted a change in her life and this is where she has a great idea. Autumn goes to spend time away in Australia and this is where she first sets her eyes on Brett but she isn't looking for any kind of relationship as she just wants a break. Autumn is a very beautiful woman that has been through a lot and all Brett wants to do is show her the life that surrounds her in Australia. They have both been through some tough times and maybe they were just meant to be.
Brett is a cocky guy but is also a great guy deep down and shown Autumn all the respect that she deserves and never let her be defined by her disability. He is caring and funny and they both have great banter between each other. What Autumn didn't expect was for him to be exactly what she needs and he shows her too. These two have something special between them but time is moving fast and its up to Brett to convince her, but the past is also rearing its ugly head too.
I loved the way that this author has written these characters and how they were with each other. They had awesome sizzling chemistry and I loved that the story flowed and held my attention throughout and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I love the way that this author writes in this book and watching what was unfolding was awesome and I did love the twists that were thrown in there too because the suspense was great. This book is a fabulous addition into the cocky hero world and I cant wait to read more from this author in the future.
Maybe ghosting this series for a while helped me realize that not every book is a gem? Or maybe it's because I had a crap ton of meetings today.. and I was just in a mood.
Cocky Carpenter was an okay read. In it, you will meet Autumn and Brett. In the beginning, I felt bad for Autumn. Why? Well, she left her home and went to Australia for a year. A rash and sudden decision.. but not the reason as to why I felt sad. Nope, her ex-husband and a stalker did.
That being said, when she ended up meeting Brett - I had hope things were going to get a lot better. It also doesn't hurt that they had crazy sexual chemistry and tension either. Even if how they met was a bit awkward.
Maybe the next book in this series will be better.
What you need to know about Cocky Carpenter: ✔ Setting in Australia’s Blue Mountains ✔ A touch of suspense to this romance ✔ Complete stand-alone ✔ Beautiful British Doctor heroine ✔ Hot Aussie Carpenter hero ✔ If you loved British Bedmate by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, you will get to see more of Simon and Brigid and also Chance and Aubrey from Cocky Bastard!
Maggie Mundy is a new author to me as are a lot of the Cocky Hero authors. I really enjoyed reading “Cocky Carpenter” so I’ll be looking for more of her books. “Cocky Carpenter” is a great mix of romance and suspense without being strictly what I would call a romantic suspense novel. It just had that extra dash of spice to get you on the edge of your seat without it being all about the suspense. One of the real stars in this book is the backdrop; the descriptions of the Blue Mountains are really wonderful if not a wee bit scary (Australia is a little scary, okay?)!
The absolute star of this book is Brett and Autumn’s relationship from their first meeting (Brett’s STD check-up), their second meeting (Brett’s rescue of naked Autumn in the tub) to their glow worm expedition and let’s just say every interaction these two have. They are fantastic. I love that Brett is not the “typical” Aussie bloke that a lot of romances might portray, he’s sensitive and compassionate to Autumn. Autumn has suffered some setbacks in her life but she’s tough but vulnerable and open.
I didn’t even mind the third person narration as you get in both their heads. I loved seeing both couples from “British Bedmate” and “Cocky Bastard”. I loved Bluey and Dorothy. I loved that Maggie Mundy trusted the reader with the language. Kudos for this great addition to the Cocky Hero Club.
Many thanks to Give Me Books Promotions, the Cocky Hero Club, and Maggie Mundy for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review of “Cocky Carpenter”. My thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.
4 Star Review Cocky Carpenter by Maggie Mundy What I love about these collections is that a variety authors are involved. Australian author Maggie Mundy is new to me and I have no idea why that is. This is Autumn and Brett’s story set in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia. I think being an Australian and very familiar with the setting added an extra layer of enjoyment t the story. Both Autumn and Brett have baggage from their pasts and although they have dealt with it, they do not trust easily. From start to finish I was engrossed in their story and didn’t want it to end. I admired Autumn, she has been through so much and having made the decision to move across the world for work, it was great to see her finally take a chance. I fell hard for Brett, there was something about him that I found swoon worthy and his dog Bluey is so loveable. This was a well written, emotional, funny, romantic, suspenseful story with characters that you cannot help but fall for.
Brett meets Dr Autumn Blake after she moves to Australia from England. Both find it easy to get to know each other; their rapport is automatic and their physical attraction is supercharged. Both have baggage but have moved on with their lives and although their pasts do cause problems they forge a really fabulous relationship.
I liked both of the lead characters-a lot, they are very different yet have similarities too. Autumn has trouble believing in love, which is understandable, and has suffered quite severely both physically and mentally. My admiration for her decision to seek new things and experiences is immense. Brett and Bluey-his dog, are a package deal, Brett is such a down-to-earth honest person who knows how to have fun and even be a tad naughty. Bluey is just plain adorable and causes a few worries too! The main word I would use to Brett would be ‘genuine’, what you see is what you get and that includes his willingness to help and support those around him. Special mention must go to Dorothy as she is a pip!
The element of suspense in the story adds a wonderful touch of excitement and certainly had me on the edge of my seat. The terrific descriptions in the story took me back to those familiar places so clearly. My mind loved visualising the settings, and there are a few to delight readers, whether you have experienced them or not. You definitely feel like a participant not an observer when reading and experience all of the emotions with the characters. Plus, there are some fantastic expressions that liven things up and some fun banter too. I love the way Brett just says whatever is in his head. 😂
This sensational book was not only entertaining but made me feel wonderful and I love when a story leaves you on a high.
“Cocky Carpenter” takes place in the Blue Mountains, a region west of Sydney, Australia. Known for its dramatic scenery, waterfalls and eucalyptus forests, it was the perfect place for Autumn to escape her past and start over. I loved experiencing Australia through her eyes, and everywhere she visited seemed magical and I felt as if I was there with her.
Autumn never expected to meet someone as special as Brett. She liked his honesty, his personality and of course, his dog Bluey. Brett was funny and kind and made Autumn smile. He encouraged her to try different things and enjoy life. Autumn was the woman he always dreamt about but thought he could never have. He was good for Autumn and made her have feelings she thought were gone forever. She felt desirable, pretty and worthy of the love of a good man. I loved the creative dates Brett planned for Autumn. He wanted her to see as much of Australia as she could in the short time she would be living there. Brett’s life had changed for the better with the arrival of the smart and beautiful Autumn. Now all he had to do was show her how he felt and perhaps she would stay and share his life with him.
Doctor Autumn Blake has an ex-husband and a stalker to escape, so a year working in Australia sounds like a great idea considering the cold English climate. It will be great to have a year to get her head together and so no romantic entanglements seem to be the best policy too. Next door neighbour Trend has lived a love then an leave them mentality for years until he sets eyes on Autumn Blake next door. She might just be the one to break through the tough layer he surrounds himself with. Is the sexual chemistry between them just that or is it something much more? Is one year long enough for them to forget their posts and grab a chance at love or will they lose it forever?
I loved this story which started off with sexual attraction which moved onto sexual chemistry and them even though they tried their best to deny it, ended up with love. I was definitely addicted to this story and found myself reading it faster and faster as I was dying to know what would happen next. I loved the role of the dog in their relationship and how he transitioned from being something that frustrated their attempts before playing a pivotal role in the story. Neighbour Dorothy was sweet and we could all do with a neighbour like that - although we would risk our waistlines! Well written and easy to read, this was a really enjoyable story that sweeps you into the story and slowly builds to the point that you become addicted to it. Contains some sexual content.
Dr. Autumn Blake is in town for 6 months to heal those that need it and to have a break of sort. What she doesn't expect is the neighbor and her landlord. Brett is cocky and tough but loves with his whole heart. He try's to do the right thing all the time and of course has family drama like no other. When these two meet you can tell something special is going to happen between them. What I love is Brett likes Autumn no matter what he doesn't treat her like she has a disability no he treats her like a women. He's bound and determined to show her what her life has been missing. But sometimes the past can come back in a thunderous way. Can they navigate the stories of their life?
I really enjoyed Cocky Carpenter, and loved Autumn and Brett. There was some instant chemistry and attraction between them and that's something neither of them were looking for. Autumn is in Australia to work and to leave her problems in the UK behind, Brett has his own issues and they end up actually helping each other as they spend more time together. They help each other with their trust issues, and Brett helps Autumn with her confidence. They are having a great time with each other and then their pasts come back...one with a vengeance!! Have they built enough trust to weather what will come? Y'all will want to read this book!!
This author is new to me and was a pleasant surprise. This was a good addition to the Cocky Hero World. There were a few times that I wished for more fluidity in the story but for the most part, this was a very solid story. There were a couple of parts that had me scratching my head as to why they were part of the story, and that mainly being Jonathan. I appreciate that the author brought a disability into the story for the heroine, Autumn. I liked even more than Brett made sure that Autumn wasn't defined by that disability. He went above and beyond to show her that she was beautiful.
I will keep an eye out for future books by this author.
Another great addition to the cocky hero world. I enjoyed this books especially Brett's sense of humor. Learning to love aging after going through horrible things like they did is always hard and it was fun seeing them navigate through it together.
Enjoyable and fun This is the first book I've read by this author. I really enjoyed the story of Brett and Autumn. I laughed often throughout this book. They were both dealing with painful pasts and together they helped each other move forward. The journey they took together to get to that point was filled with fun adventures they took. A must read.
Brett and Autumn are kindred spirits. They've both been hurt in the past and are leery to get too close. Her being a doctor and him being a carpenter seems to also be a divide. However, they can't help but fall in love with one another and their chemistry together is off the charts hot! What happens when their pasts come into their present? Can they stay strong together or will they be pushed apart? This is another greatly penned book within the Cocky Hero Club world and I highly recommend reading this.
Great spin on the Cocky World. I really enjoyed this read. It had everything, mystery intrigue, suspense and passion. A great inclusion from another fabulous Aussie Author. Must read for fans of British Bedmate
Brett's first meeting with Autumn had him showing her his junk. No not like that...she was the doctor standing in for his usual doctor. He never got the beautiful Brit out of his mind then next thing you know, he's rescuing his new tenant from a fall in the tub, and guess who it is...yep, his beautiful Brit. But things won't be all lighthearted as their first two encounters, because both of them have some demons. She's got a past and so does he. Let's just hope he can save her from hers when she needs it most.
This is a fabulous addition to the Cocky Hero Club. I loved Brett and Autumn together. Both broken souls who needed someone to help lift each other up, be there unconditionally, and they found that in each other.
The author has written a note to her readers about this book that you will need to pay attention to.
Autumn may have physical challenges but that doesn’t stop her from what she loves. She’s come to realize that she needs to spread her wings. Brett may be cocky but at least he cares about his health. And he’s proud about the work he does. He’s also opened his heart to possibilities.
This is a book where you will laugh with the characters as well as at them. They also both seem to like the outdoors as well as taking a chance on having an adventure. It’s a story about getting out of your comfort zone in order to experience the world around us and doing things you probably would never do. We also have two characters that can feel there’s a connection growing but what will they do about it.
Our author does a great job at showing that people are not different just because they have a disability. They eat like we do; they hold down jobs like we do, and they want some of the same things we do too. She gives me the chance to experience some of what Australia has to offer without leaving the comfort of my living room. It was a quick read which you can finish in just a few hours to a few days depending on how your schedule for the day goes. If you are like me and have not read any works by this author than you just may have found someone new to follow.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Cocky Carpenter will capture your heart! It was sweet and uplifting and just leaves you with a happy feeling after reading it! I am not a huge fan of 3rd person and was a little bummed to see that in the beginning, but the author had a way of writing that did not make me feel as if I was missing out on anything!
This is a relatively quick read but will have you adoring the characters and the story was just hands down so full of heart and humor. I totally recommend checking this book out if you enjoy the Cock Hero world and I give it 4 outta 5 stars!
PS: Thank you to Maggie Mundy, Cocky Hero Club, and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!
Autumn is a doctor who has recently relocated to Australia for a one year contract to put some distance between her and a few situations that were going on in her life. Her first meeting with Brett was humorous when he was her patient but when she finds out he is her landlord it is only a matter of time before their relationship becomes personal.
Brett has a past of his own that he is dealing with. He is the perfect mix of sweet and sexy and appreciates Autumn just the way she is. What starts out as a casual friendship evolves into something much deeper, but Autumn’s past is about to catch up with her.
I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Autumn and Brett unfold. Not only do they share an intense chemistry and connection, but they are so supportive of each other as they face the obstacles that life throws at them.
Autumn packs up her life and moves from the UK to Australia for a year. She needs time to regroup and get her life back on track. A year as a small town doctor sounds just like what she needs. Brett meets his new tenant under not so normal circumstances. Can a year of friends with benefits satisfy them or will it leave them wanting more?
The Cocky Hero Club has brought me to yet another new author and I'm excited to check out more of her work. Maggie Mundy has created two characters that have had tragedy in their past yet still help each other heal. Cocky Carpenter is so much fun and I loved the interactions between Autumn, Brett and who could resist Dorothy. This was such a sweet friends to lovers story. Another great addition to the CHC World.
Autumn and Brett connect when she moves to Australia for a year to work as a doctor there.
There's suspense, romance, and two people who find each other when they aren't expecting it. I really liked that the book was set in Australia. It is someplace I have never been, but would love to visit and I haven't read many books set there.
Overall a nice first read for me from this author!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This is a new author to me and I absolutely love her writing!! There is a perfect amount of banter, drama, suspense and chemistry in the story. After Autumn moves to Australia her encounters with Brett are absolutely hilarious!! I had tears in my eyes from the witty banter. As a reader I have never been to Australia but the imagery the author uses I felt like I was actually at the places in the story. Great addition to the Cocky Hero series!!
Why? First thing first, a lot of 3rd person narration. In my opinion that choice always end by affecting the credibility of the story. But the plot still good. Slow burn and witty, sometime funny too, if you see how they met. And met shortly after that encounter again. Sometimes the connection between Autumn and Brett is oscillating from "static" moments to steamy ones, that's why I had some difficulty to instantly connect with them as a couple. Beside the love story there's the background of it, on which the author spent a lot of words, to picture you all the beautiful Australian views. She successfully include those kind of details to the main story. Now, something about the sexy scenes. He's 90% cocky and all but sometimes I felt this attitude of his a bit "uncertain", but he's really good in that department, don't worry 😀 *ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*
I’m giving this book 3.5 stars. Rounding up to 4 stars since the book got a lot better by the end.
I honestly didn’t really feel a connection between Brett and Autumn. I think this book could have hooked me sooner if the drama and issues with Autumn’s stalker and the girl from Brett’s past had shown up sooner in the book. That is when I really got invested in the story.
I wish the relationship between Brett and Autumn had evolved a little more before they added the “benefits” portion to their friendship. For me their relationship almost felt forced.
This is another hit from the Cocky Hero series of books. Autumn Blake ,a doctor who is running from her stalker ex-husband “ runs” to Australia for six months to hide from him. Brett who ends up being her neighbor and landlord ... This is a huge suspense filled story. I really enjoyed the instant, burning chemistry between Brett and Autumn.
I enjoyed reading this book book by Maggie Mundy who was a new author to me. This sweet love story of two people who have had difficulties in life come together in a wonderful part of Australia. It has some twists and turns that keep you hooked. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.
