Smug Bastard

Rate this book
It was my time, a cross country drive heading home for my brother’s wedding to figure out my life after college. Me, my dog named Goat, and the open road. That’s all I wanted.
He wasn’t supposed to be part of it. My older brother’s high school friend and my sister’s ex. The cocky boy my eleven-year-old-self hated.
The infamous Smith Blackburn.
AKA Smug Bastard.
The guy every girl wanted to be with and every guy wanted to be.
The day after graduation, he left town and disappeared, losing contact with my family. But nine years later, he resurfaces and becomes a thorn in my side once again.
After his motorcycle breaks down, my older siblings convince me to let him ride home with me. Kyle wants his old buddy at his wedding, and Kasey, still carrying a torch for him, wants nothing more than to see him again, convinced they are meant to be. It’s the last thing in the world I want, but I learned long ago going up against the powerhouse twins is futile.
After nine years, we’ve both grown up, but our mutual dislike lingers. Though I can’t deny he is the sexiest man I have ever seen in my life. His piercing blue eyes, gorgeous rugged face, and muscular, tall figure belong on magazine covers. But he’s still a smug bastard, and I’m still the annoying little “Baby K.”
Spending every minute together in a tiny camper van starts to twist the lines of hate, igniting feelings and passions I’ve never felt before, shoving me out of my safety bubble. Tension grows, and nights are filled with strain and forbidden desire.
But I can feel him holding back. Cagey and cryptic, Smith’s dark past hints at the surface.
When it finds us, nothing could have prepared me for the truth—the secrets that flip everything upside down.
I wasn’t supposed to fall for him.
He was never meant to be mine.

"Do you know why I didn't kiss you the other night?"
I shook my head, my locks tugging in his grip, forming a moan in the back of my throat.
"Because I knew if I did, I would never stop. I shouldn't want you. I can't have you...but I crave you like a fucking drug."

4.5 stars!

Holy hell. SMB never fails to deliver a story with a surly asshole hero, a fiesty and strong heroine, and surprising-as-hell twists that will blow your mind and completely derail the budding romance between the two MCs. But like a desperate addict, I cannot get enough of her wonderful writing and enjoy the rollercoaster of emotions her stories bring!
"I was all set to leave that next morning...but I didn't. I couldn't fucking walk away from you. You make me weak. Something I told myself I'd never be again."
"I don't make you weak," I seethed through my teeth....
I challenge you.

Kinsley has lived her life quietly in the shadow of her two older twin siblings, comfortable to let them keep the spotlight and never quite fitting in. Smith Blackburn was her brother's best friend growing up and was used to charming his way through life on his good looks alone. Smith has lived his life on the move since graduation, but Kinsley has always been the one able to see past his bravado and charming smile. When they meet again on a roadtrip to her brother's wedding, Kinsley realizes that she might not hate Smith as much as she once thought, while Smith has finally started to notice that Kinsley is no longer the "Baby K" he once knew. Even though there are so many reasons they should not be together, they could not resist the immense attraction between them and must ultimately learn to fight for what they really want. Overall, I loved the sexual tension, the angst, and the journey to Kinsley and Smith's HEA, and as always there were so many meaningful passages from SMB that resonated with me as well. Another knockout worth reading!

My Smith Blackburn, aka Smug Bastard, hiding his vulnerability behind his charm and air of nonchalance...

This was such a fun, easy and addictive read. Smug Bastard is the story of Kinsley and Smith.
Kinsley is on her way to the wedding of her brother Kyle. She planned a 10 day road trip with a van and is taking her dog Goat with her. Goat is scared of men. And she adores him so much.
A few hours into her road trip her sister Kasey calls her. She needs to pick up Smith Blackburn, who has a motor cycle problem. Kasey is pleading with her to take him. In part for her brother. But mostly because Kasey believes this will be a second chance for her and Smith.
Kinsley hated Smith with a vengeance as a teen. And reluctantly agrees.

She picks Smith up and her mouth falls open. He is smoking hot. And weirdly enough Goat loves him straightaway. And that is what the story kickstarts.

Kinsley, aka Baby K, and Smith bicker from the get go. And when Kinsley falls into a cactus and hurts her bare ass, things start to spice up between them. Smith convinces her to deviate from her original plan, and also visit unknown places along the way.
Their friendship starts to grow. But also this immense attraction they share. Every step the other one takes invigorates the other one. They are jealous of outsider's attentions, but are also pushing away their own feelings.
Until they can't and things explode.

But what is Smith hiding? And how will this affect Kasey?

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was hot, spicy, sweet - I laughed so much. They are a great couple and I just adore them so much.

If you want a quick, easy and addictive read then definitely pick this one up!

5 huge stars from me for this wonderful story!

SMUG BASTARD is a fantastic addition to the CHC world. If you love “older brothers best-friend” romance then you will love Kinsley and Smith’s story! Taking a road trip together across America makes for some very interesting shenanigans, and it was as funny as it was steamy. Smith is so swoon worthy and I absolutely adored him. He fought so hard with his feelings for Kins, partly because he was holding a lot of information back from her and he didn’t think he was good enough. I adored how she pushed him though, determined to make him admit his feelings.
This one features a cameo from Chance (Cocky Bastard).
I’ve never read anything from Stacey Marie Brown before but I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style and the effortless flow of the storyline.

Contemporary romance road trip

This was an easy contemporary romance read. There’s a road trip, older brother’s best friend, and older sister’s ex. So many a trope, but enjoyable as all get out. If you’ve read and enjoyed Cocky Bastard, then you’ll enjoy this book. It’s in the same world as that, and it kind of follows a similar plot with the road trip. I will say that this one has a lot of push and pull between the hero and heroine. I was just ready for them to make the leap. All in all a good read. Entertaining.

Smug Bastard is another standalone novel in the Cocky Hero world by Stacie Marie Brown.

Damn, this author never fails to deliver an absolutely swoon-worthy hero and a spitfire heroine. This time too she has done it!!!

I absolutely loved Smug Bastard. It was everything you can expect from this author ,it was full of love, passion and angst. The main leads of the book were just amazing.

In this book we meet Kinsley , who is used to being in her siblings shadow. She ver wanted the spotlight and was happy to give it to them. Smith is her brother's best friend and has always been a charming asshole , who gets his way through life by using that charm. For Smith , Kelsie has always been Baby K and he always saw her as this annoying little sister.

However after many years, when they meet again , there spark re-ignited!!
Kelsie realises that she might not hate Smith as much as she once thought and Smith notices that Kelsie is so not the baby K he once knew. The woman in front of him is all sorts of grown up and smartass.

There were many reasons why they both were bad for each other , but they just could stay away .After a lot of push and pull they both give in to their attraction to see where it goes. However things do not go as good as they expected and their affair blows up in their faces .

Kelsie realizes that Smith has been hiding a lot from her and he was never supposed to be hers, which in turn leaves her heart broken.

On an overall basis , I absolutely loved the sexual tension between the main leads and the pain and angst the author has portrayed so perfectly!!

Smug bastard is a slow-burn contemporary romance read for anyone who is addicted to second-chance and redemption themes , much like me!!!

What can I say other than I loved this book! It has it all with an entertaining storyline, humor, a bit of drama, lots of steam, and enthralling characters. This is an enemies-to-lovers, big brother’s best friend romance so pretty much two of my favorite tropes. It is also a bit of forbidden romance as Kinsley’s sister dated Smith several years prior.

The blurb and cover of the book are what initially captured my attention, but it was the way this author told the story that kept me engaged. Returning home for her brother’s wedding, Kinsley decides to embark on a road trip home. However, reluctantly, she ends up helping out her brother and sister by giving Smith a ride. What happens is an adventure and a journey of self discovery that neither one expected.

Filled with witty banter and an insane amount of tension, this book is sure to leave you both laughing and swooning. I adored Kinsley for all of her feistiness and blunt personality. She is a character that I found to be relatable and the type of person I would love to have in my corner. As for Smith, it is impossible to not fall for this guy. Smith with his smoldering good looks and raw sex appeal may come across as a Smug Bastard, but he is also hiding his pain. He harbors some secrets and while I predicted one right off the bat, the rest was unexpected. The back and forth dialogue between the two of them had me in stitches and other times I was fanning myself because their kindle melting moments.

There are some important underlying themes in this book which I loved and I feel like this book had that right amount of drama mixed with humor and steam. The story progression was spot on with the book moving at a good place and impeccable character development. This is a book that I definitely recommend!

I read an early, complimentary version of this book. This is my voluntary, unbiased opinion of this book.

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

I had so much fun reading this book! This book had it all. It was humorous, sexy, and entertaining. I was so taken with this book.

Stacey Marie Brown tells a darn good story. I have read the majority of her backlist titles and she always sucks me right into the story. Her writing style is kind of magical. She has such an ease with words that makes the reader feel right at home. I really enjoyed the plot in this book. I was definitely compelled to read this one.

These characters were simply great. Kinsley's character was very fleshed out and had a lot of depth. I really had a feel for her personality. Smith's character was a little more mysterious and you had to figure him out along the way and try to piece together the clues. They were both very likable and relatable characters that I enjoyed immensely.

Kinsley and Smith had great chemistry. They knew each other when they were younger since Smith was friends with Kinsley's brother and kinda sorta messed around with her sister. It starts off as an enemies-to-lovers romance and then blossoms from there. It's clear that they are both very different people from the kids they used to be. They find happiness with each other that they had never found with anyone else. I really loved seeing them grow closer over their road trip. I love how Kinsley didn't back down from Smith, but instead challenged him at every step. And Smith's protective streak was swoon-worthy. These two were so clearly meant for each other.

Overall, this is a book that will win you over in a heartbeat. It has such memorable characters and such a great storyline. Stacey Marie Brown always delights me and I can't wait for more from her and from the Cocky Hero Club series!

***4 ‘Goat’ Stars***

I have to say that this was a fun read. An eye roll inducing, laugh out loud, growl in frustration, smexy read that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen between Kinsley and Smith next.

I loved Kinsley and Smith. Kinsley is sassy, snarky, determined, organized and has a huge heart. She’s one of those people who doesn’t see herself the way others do and I loved watching as her perception of not only her world, but herself shifted as the book progressed. Smith is charming, though at times that charm has barbs and guarded. He isn’t one to open up, but his actions speak volumes.

Their journey to their HEA was definitely bumpy but a lot of fun. I loved how Smith pushed Kinsley outside of her comfort zone and I loved how Kinsley gave as good as she got. Their shared history caused some issues, mostly of the head game kind, but it gave them a kind of common ground that brought them closer together and I have to say, I really liked them together. They had a flow that made it easy to see that they could have more. The big road block in their journey was a doozy, I didn’t see ALL of that coming, and I have to admit, I was totally Team Kinsley even though I understood Smith’s reasoning. And though I’m happy they got things worked out, I really kind of want a bit more grovelling...or at least witnessing some of it.

This really was a fun read. The pacing was good and the writing was on point. Of all the characters we meet in this one, Angie and Goat were my fav’s and I definitely wouldn’t mind spending more time with both of them.

Smug Bastard was a fabulous addition to the Cocky Hero Club, one that sucked me in from the very first page and ensured I devoured it in a single sitting.

There were many things with Smug Bastard that pulled me right in, with the details pulling me in deeper and deeper the more I read. The characters were so much fun, their chemistry was amazing, the storyline kept me hooked, and there were plenty of emotions to be felt throughout. I could not put it down, hooked on everything.

Without a doubt, this is a must read in the Cocky Hero Club.

I really enjoyed this book. LIKE, really enjoyed it. I appreciated Kinsley needing to break out of the shadow of her twin siblings, especially, Kasey. I really struggled with her until a certain scene and then I wanted a book about her because of that scene. If anyone can help this former prom queen write a story about her getting a happily ever after and the journey to get there it would be this author. Now, back to Kinsley and Smith.

These characters were great. I loved watching these two fight their attraction for each other and all the reasons that they shouldn't be together. Even though I had an idea of where this story was going to go I still was all in. However, even though I was right in some aspects of the story and Smith's past, I was SO wrong, too, and that surprised me. I like getting surprises in books. There were a few areas that I wanted fleshed out but for the most part this was a great book and did the Cocky Hero world justice. I really hope that maybe the author does a story on Kasey. As I said, even though she drove me crazy her reasons why she acts the way that she did is a goldmine of a story. that is a huge testament to this author and her ability to craft a story if I can go from despising a character to wanting a story.

Now that Kinsley has graduated from college she is ready to forge her own path away from the shadow of her older sister and brother who are twins. She is looking forward to the road trip to her hometown for her brother’s wedding but having his best friend, who also dated her sister, as a travel companion was not part of her plans.

Smith is a man with hidden depths who wears his arrogance and bravado like a shield and guards his secrets closely. Travelling with Kinsley was just supposed to be a way to attend his brother’s wedding and he certainly wasn’t prepared to be attracted to her let alone to develop feelings for her however secrets have a way of coming out when you least expect it and the results can be devastating.

Humor, heat and all the feels as Kinsley and Smith find each other at the worst possible time but couldn’t have been better for each other.

Are you ready for a road trip?

They need to allow half stars because this would be a 4.5⭐️ rating. I'm already a fan of Stacey Marie Brown’s work, this book didn't disappoint!

The way that Kinsley and Smith are described... I could so easily see them in my mind. It's the same with the settings. The rich colors that paint the sky at sunset at one stop, the smells, textures, and sounds of New Orleans. Not to mention the banter some witty and some so drenched in tension you could feel it.

If you like hot, smug, and tatted men who happen to enjoy drawing the spirit out of the one woman he shouldn't even want? Give this a read, it won't let you down!

Cross country road trip for the WIN!! Everything from the sexual tension and passion to the firework sparks these two gave off each other was ridiculously well done! I was glued to this story from the beginning until the very last word. The story-line unfolded so brilliantly that I was in awe of it. I don’t know you guys, but it was just so frikking easy to read and I just couldn’t wait to the next moment in the story but I also didn’t want it to end. With secrets and twist and all manor of shenanigans, this road trip will leave a mark! GAH, these two were just fantastic! I almost want to read it AGAIN right now!

SB by Stacey Marie Brown is a stand-alone novel and part of the CHero Club.
Meet Kinsley. She's on a road trip home to attend her brothers wedding, when she has to pick up a passenger.
Smith Blackburn is an alpha like they come. He's rude, blunt, and a glutaeus maximus in general. But it takes him not long to fall for Rachel, but his past isn't finished with him - he's still an itsy bitsy, ha no spoilers here.
SB is an unputdownable made me read the book in one sitting read. I loved the storyline, the characters and the plottwtist. A great summer read.

SMITH BLACKBURN could give Chase a run for his money the way he takes control of this road trip. Smith and Kinsley haven't seen each in nine years. He was the older brother's friend she wanted nothing to do with,
Last time Smith saw her, she was a eleven year old who knew too well he was a Smug Bastard. And time hasn't change this bastard.
He surely as ever and nine years hasn't change Kinsley thoughts about him.
She grown up and knows that she wants nothing to do still. However this guy knows how to use his charm and get under your skin.

Kinsley is ready to make her mark and step out of the shadow but love has other ideas when she takes a trip of a lifetime.
Kinsley is a recent graduate who wants to make her own name. Sick of the past that spotlight that never spread to her like it did to her siblings. Kinsley has craved her own life out not wanting to rock the boat at home.
Smith does just that with his secrets and twists that you won't see coming. Smith sees through Kinsley and recongises the young tween he knew is all grown up and ready to face the music. Just like she through his and the fight to break the rules begin.

With everything at stake and an attraction that is undeniable , it is a case when will they fall and fight for what they want. BUT what is the price they will they pay.

This is my first book from this author and I love this unconventional romance, it's in your face with the sexual tension and the passion that they these two have. Brown put these two through the wringer with the drama. It made for quite a journey to HEA and by the end I was rooting for them both to find their way. It's a beautiful romance that needs to be read by all of those who love those smug bastards and want them to realise what they are missing before it's too late.

I LOVED this book so much!!! This is my first read by the author, and I'm kicking myself for not reading her sooner!! Everything about this book was pure magic: older brothers best friend, sisters ex-boyfriend forbidden trope with ALL the feels!

Kinsley has lived a quiet, structured life and has always been in the background compared to her twin siblings. She has just from college and is planning on doing an extravagant road trip to celebrate before attending her brothers wedding, when her trip is hijacked by the impossibly broody, sexy bad bad boy (who is now all man) Smith. These two have insane banter, that teeters from hate to love like all great love stories, but their connection is just out of this world!! They have some truly hilarious, steamy, sweet times all rolled into one, and BOY do they push each other's buttons!! These two are just so perfect for each other!!

I love how even though Smith seems like the ultimate bad boy, he's truly a softie on the inside. He has scars from his past, and is determined not to let anyone else in, but baby K -- now all grown up-- gets past his defenses so quickly it makes his head spin. He knows all the obstacles they face, and all the reasons why they shouldn't be together seem to outweigh what they really want, but these two not only make my kindle sizzle heat up, but they also melt my heart as well. Plus this book is so much more emotional than I was expecting, but I loved every heartbreaking minute!!

This is definitely one of my favorite additions to the Cocky Hero Club series and I can't wait for everyone to read this book!!

Smug Bastard is a perfect enemies-to-lovers addition to the Cocky Bastard universe. I adored Smith and Kinsley so so much! The hate and heat between these two was off the charts. Meanwhile, the love affair between Kinsley's dog, Goat, and Smith was absolutely adorable!

Stacey Marie Brown did a fantastic job with these characters. I loved how torn Kinsley felt about the feelings she was fighting toward Smith. He'd dated her sister, and her sister was still hung up on the guy. He is a moody, cocky jerk. But she couldn't help but want him. Meanwhile, Smith is the stereotypical brooding bad boy, a guy who came from a bad childhood and is down on his luck. And man, is Smith down on his luck! I love the twists that his story took with how his life imploded and the manipulation by his ex. I was really ready to hate the guy after falling in love with him as a romantic hero, and then another whammy is revealed and I fell in love with him all over again!

Y'all, this book was pretty freaking awesome. I loved reading about Smith and Kinsley and their structured but unstructured road trip to get to her brother's wedding. These two are like fire and ice and do not mix, but somehow also mix SO WELL! The story was entertaining and fun and so unbelievably hot! I LOVE the Cocky Hero Club books and this one will hit you like a gut punch to the heart.

All in all this book has amazing characters and an even better story line. Though, there are a lot of questions and secrets, the book gives you all that you would like in a romance book and I cannot recommend it enough. I really enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it- 4.5 outta 5 stars from me!

Another Cocky Hero Club book that blew me away! Another new-to-me author that I found and now adore! Where have I been that I did not know of this amazing author? So many books...so little time.

Kinsley is just the fiestiest ever! She has just graduated college and ready to find her niche. Driving across country to her brother's wedding with her dog named "Goat", she is coerced at the last minute to bring her brother's best friend, Smith, who was her childhood nemesis, with her. She was the only one who could see through his bs. She is suddenly dreading the trip she had planned and was so excited to embark.

Smith is an enigma. It has been 8 years since he graduated and left their hometown in the dust. He has changed, even better looking than Kins remembers him. But he's got a lot he's not sharing under those sharp blue eyes. He makes her leave her comfort zone, be daring, step out of the box she has put herself in for all these years. Find out who she really is, what she really wants, and who she really wants. Can she stand up for herself against her family?

I loved this story, watching Kins figure herself out from the shadow of her twin siblings. Smith brought out the fierceness in her and she brought out the goodness in him. The angst made me throw down my kindle a few times, I'll admit, but I didn't go far and picked it right back up. I really like some good angst, and a good villain. And we sure had her. Grrr. But I got my happy ending so I was good! This is a MUST READ, YA'LL! So go and get it NOW!

Fabulous, road trip romance - so much intense chemistry and sexual tension between the main characters.

"Looking for me, Baby K?"

Those were the first words that Smith Blackburn say to Kinsley Maxwell for the first time in nine years. I don't know why but those words totally hooked me - I almost imagined Elvis Presley saying them! LOL. Smith was someone that Kinsley couldn't stand when she was a pre-teen and she totally saw through his BS when everyone, including her older sister who was absolutely ga-ga over him. His smugness and cockiness always made her want to take him down a peg or two and now, years later, she feels exactly the same. The only difference is that she's a grown woman and suddenly realising what all the fuss about Smith was all about.

"His expression burned into me from across the room. Ferocious. Raw. Feral."

O.M.Geeeeee! The chemistry between them was intense and incendiary! Adele was a firecracker of a woman and Smith was absolutely drawn to her. It was so freakin' thrilling and HAWT! No matter how hard Smith tried to switch off his attraction, she was steadily and surely burrowing under his skin. I was absolutely electrified by the tension between them.

"I felt alive. Free. The first time I matched the person inside.”

Kinsley lived a straight life – she walked her own path yet felt that she was lacking when held up against her more successful older siblings. I adored that Smith pushed her outside of her comfort zone and urged her to do spontaneous things. Smith, himself, was trying to work through his own personal issues and had a big secret that he was holding on to, but I loved how much he wanted to put things right when he realised Kinsley was his future. This was such a fantastic read from a new-to-me author and I’m desperate to explore her other books.

"My need to be near her to do what she asked overrode every warning, every intelligent reason not to."

5 Smug Stars!!! I loved it!! The angst, the heat, the passion... amazing!

Smith is the epitome of an Alpha, he's rude, blunt and you guessed it smug. He's been the best friend of Kinsley's brother and he's always looked at Kinsley as the little sister. Nothing more nothing less. Kinsley, tired of being in her families shadow, decides she's ready to live her life and go on a once in a lifetime road trip. But fate has other plans for her when she ends up on that road trip with Smith. They haven't seen each other in 9 years, and neither can deny the attraction that brews between them. But there's stuff bubbling under the surface that involves secrets from Smith's past... and well other fun things along the way.

I loved the sassy attitude that Kinsley gives to Smith, she's takes zero nonsense from him and I loved it! I also loved the way Smith pushes her out of her comfort zone and dares he to start living her life! The angst and the push and pull between these two will suck you in and add in the fun road trip and you've got one heck of a book!!

Another great addition to the Cocky Hero collection. But this one has become my top favorite. I loved each page turning moment of Smug Bastard. I loved the journey, the adventure and everything in between. Stacey did one amazing job with these two characters. Not only were the characters amazing but Stacey takes you on an adventure that you will remember long after reading the book. Kinsley just graduated from college and really doesn't know what to do with her life. So she decides to take an adventure cross country with her dog to go back home for her brother's wedding. Little does she know fate has something in store for her that will forever change her life. It is decided for her that she is getting a friend along for the ride. Smith (smug bastard) something that she has crushed on yet hated since she was 11. But she hasn't seen him in years.
Smith has had a rough go of things the past couple of years. He wants to make it to his best friend's wedding but his bike breaks down. So fate decides that Kinsley (baby K) is going to come to his rescue. But she does more than rescue him from a broke down bike.
The chemistry between these two was off the charts. I absolutely loved how easily these two could pick on each other after all the years being apart. How easy it was for them to pick up at least being somewhat friends with each other enough to travel. The risks these two take to see where the relationship between them will go, loved it. This was a page turning book from beginning to end. I loved each and every moment even when I wanted to punch Smith or throw my kindle. Highly recommend this one.

After his bike breaks down Smith Blackburn is in need of a ride, and lucky for him his friends have hooked him up with a ride home. But this ride comes with a whole host of complications he never saw coming... the biggest one being his ex's little sister Kinsley!

Between the pages of this captivating romance readers will meet a pairing that appear to be all wrong for one another on paper, but perfect for one another according to their hearts. As these two embark on their little cross country journey back home tensions are high, as one would expect when traveling with your mortal enemy/ secret crush. Way back when, Kinsley had a mad crush on Smith, but he belonged to her sister, and that pretty much made him untouchable, so she tried her best to forget him. But now that he is sitting beside her in her car she realizes her plan to forget didn't really work, she knows she shouldn't want him, but he's just too darn tempting! I adored this pairing, well one half of it for a good portion of the book anyway, their antics kept my eyes glued to the pages. Smith was a hard one to embrace, he was such a jerk to Kinsely at times. I had a hard time liking him at first, but eventually his armor slipped and I saw the good guy lying underneath... and that is the guy I really liked!! This was a perfect little afternoon literary escape, the words were addictive, and the characters put on one heck of a steamy and dramatic little show!! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

When Kinsley sets out on her road trip across America heading home for her older brothers wedding the last thing she was expecting was a phone call begging her to pick up a passenger to join her along way.

Smith Blackburn’s a tall, good looking, sexy, alpha, he’s also rude and totally smug, he’s the best friend of Kinsleys older brother and her older sisters (the brothers twin) high school sweetheart of sorts, when his bike gives him trouble he find himself riding shotgun and taking a road trip alongside Kinsley. Various reasons see the pair fight their attraction towards one another, there’s the whole best friends little sister, the age difference and the fact that Kinsley’s sister keeps going on to her about how Smith is "the one" for her, Smith’s also got some skeletons in his closet which among other things make him feel as if he doesn’t deserve Kinsley, yet the pair succumb to temptation and enjoy each other’s company in many different ways during their road trip including between the sheets however as you know skeletons don’t always stay in their closets and Smith’s skeletons aren’t finished with him, they come back to haunt him at the most inconvenient of times.

Will it be over before it’s even had a chance to begin for Kinsley and Smith or does true love really concur all? Read SB and join Kinsley and Smith as they take the road trip that will change their lives forever.

So. Much. Heat.

Where do I begin??

Smith is trying to pick up the pieces of his life. He needs a distraction like he needs a hole in the head, but he gets one in the form of Kinsley, his best friend's baby sister. Forced to take a road trip together across the country, he's conflicted by the new feelings she rouses in him. But he's not good enough for her, anyway.

Kinsley has never liked Smith aka Smug Bastard, a fact she was never shy of revealing. But nine years later, she's struggling to remember the reason for her dislike. Not only is Smith hotter, but he forces her out of her shell, enticing her to live instead of simply existing. The fact that he's forbidden makes it frustrating for Kinsley, who, having always been a rule follower, suddenly wants to break all the Smith-related rules.

I absolutely enjoyed this addition to the Cocky Hero Club world. The tension was so thick, the angst so tangible and the heat?! OMG! *fans self* The chemistry between Kinsley & Smith was undeniably hot. The constant push and pull kept me glued to the book's pages and kept me rooting for them to wake up to the realisation that they had something worth fighting for.

I recommend this read. This friends-to-lovers/forbidden/older brother's best friend read with a plot twist is sure to keep you as enthralled as it did me.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

I loved this book from page one to the very last page.
Stacey Marie has a way with bad boys. So bad yet so delicious! This guy Smith reminded me of a certain Viking from one of stacey’s previous books.
I know I say it every time I read one of her books but it’s true no matter if it’s a romance novel or a paranormal book your attention is grabbed right from the beginning.
Angst is at its finest with these two who think that they don’t have the right to be happy and depraving themselves of an epic love.

Kinsley is a strong woman but was always living in her twin brother and sister’s shadow. Never really fit in the family.

Smith aka the Smug Bastard is a total hottie! I mean who doesn’t love a hot construction worker with a buffed tattooed body! Yep that’s him. Yes he’s had his share of bad luck but Kinsley if the luck turner. She has the potential to destroy or build him up. To build each other up!

Side note Kinsley’s sister made my eyes roll to the back of my head too many times to count. So snooty. So entitled. So in fantasy land. I wanted to smack the crap out of her numerous times!

Loved it loved it loved it! And love Stacey too!

This was such a great enemies to friends to lovers story. Smith and Kinsley both tried very hard to dislike the other. They tried to see each other as they had 9 years prior. But spending so much time together on a cross country road trip proved to help them see each other in a different and more grown up way.

I was worried a couple of times that these two were going to go too far with someone else but that didn't happen and I was very relieved of that. Kinsley tried so hard to not want Smith but he became irresistible. He fought his growing attraction to her as well but eventually every volcano explodes. And when these two finally came together, it was combustible.

Then Smith's past comes back to bite him and the secrets he never explained to Kinsley. And of course she was too hurt and angry to let him explain. Which worked out for the best so that he could get things sorted out.

I was glad that Smith and Kinsley had a few months apart. Smith needed that time to get everything situated and this truly showed them what the other meant to them.

I am on a roll with 5 star reads lately. Smug Bastard earns the 5 stars whole heartedly. Stacey Marie Brown has quickly won my heart with her writing. Smug Bastard was no exception. Smug Bastard has the witty elements that I love, a sassy strong female character, and a hot alpha damaged male character. Mix those two together and you get a fabulous story. Oh, and a dog named Goat. What is there not to love about this book?! I found myself laughing out loud at parts. I found myself smiling at parts. I found myself sighing out loud at different parts ;)

Stacey's writing is so fluid and feels so natural. The chemistry between Kinsley and Smith is sizzling throughout the book. I couldn't put this book down. Also, the name Smith Blackburn? Even his name sounds hot.

Stacey Marie Brown is a new to me author, and I'm totally in love! Smug Bastard hit the ground running from the jump, and I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. I'm a person who has gone on many hilarious road trips so I was completely on board for all of Kinsley & Smith's shenanigans on the road together. He's her older brother's best friend so he's always just seen her as Baby K growing up. Now, he's definitely noticed that she's all grown up & the chemistry is filling the car up with all the sparks flying around. Smith also has things in his life that has him convinced that he's not good enough for her plus the whole bro code situation. You already know that being in close quarters on the road trip across the US, things will get complicated because that powerful chemistry won't be denied forever! So, hit those one click buttons to see how the trip plays out because I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
