“I want a divorce.”
No woman wants to say those words. No woman who is still in love with her husband anyway.

Our marriage has been tested, repeatedly.
It’s been dragged through tabloids and rumors and fans that just won’t let us be.
Through it all, we’ve remained unbreakable.

We didn’t have the perfect marriage because perfection doesn’t exist.
But we had love. We had trust. We had chemistry that to this day sets everything inside me
on fire.

Then one life-threatening statement creates a chain of lies that leaves me no choice but to say those horrible words.

I never thought I’d say them.

I never thought my husband would ignore me when I did.

I never thought the man I love would sever the vows we took.

I never thought I’d pack my bags and move from our home in L.A. to our getaway cottage in Hermosa Beach.

Then again, I never thought he'd choose the fate of his life over his fate with me.

Well.. there’s no physical cheating. So let’s get that out of the way.

He lied to her for two years. Confided in his agent who the heroine hated. Went behind her back for two years. He tried to blamed the heroine for his lies. He had the nerve to say to the heroine that he went to the other woman because she believed in him unlike his wife. Which was a lie. He told the heroine for 2 years that the other woman did not worked for him but once again he lied. He told the heroine if she left him she wouldn’t get a cent from him. He tried to controlled her. He said that he only wanted to give her a family because she’s the one who wanted kids. He only wanted to box.

He tried to get her back. He went after her. He tried to make her reason. He was also rude and an asshole to everyone that stood in his way. But he still wanted to continue boxing.
Ok. I guess I should explain why he began to lied to his wife when they’d promised each other that they would always tell each other the truth no matter what.
Hero has been always hurt in boxing. He has had concussions and the doctors adviced he that the next concussion could kill him. He retired. Only he really didn’t and started to trained for a new fight. Lying to the heroine, telling her that he was just working out, laying about working with the other woman. Going to the other woman for advice. He said that the other woman helped him through a rough time in his life. That she believed in him. I’m guessing when his wife was worried sick about him possibly dying he was going to the other woman pouring his heart out instead of going to his wife. The love of his life. The one he promised to never lied to.
So yeah there’s plenty of other ways to cheat on your spouse other than having sex with someone else. He betrayed the heroine’s trust. He emotionally cheated. Looking for someone else approval other than your spouse is cheating imo. I don’t care who tells me he never cheated. He did. He emotionally cheated on his wife with the other woman.
And the author wanted to level the field. She (h) gets pregnant and doesn’t tell him that she is. In fact she goes and file for divorce without tell him that she’s preggo.

“No secrets, no lies.
It’s our golden rule. We swore on it, did the spit handshake, kissed on it, and so much more.
I’ve gone and pissed all over it.”

“He placed another woman in our corner and shoved me aside”

“That’s just great. I talk to Natalie, who happens to be a friend. I break a few vows here and there, and suddenly you want a divorce. Fine, go get a divorce, see if you get a dime from me.”

“I’m sick and tired of Natalie said. I’ve listened to it for years. Natalie said this, and Natalie said that. I could have forgiven you for holding in your feelings about boxing. I understand better than anyone how much a part of your life it is, but I can’t forgive you for letting her replace me.”

“Why don’t you ask me what you have running around in your head about Natalie and me, instead of beating around the bush like some teenage girl? You think I fucked her; you think I’ve been fucking her? Well, fuck you very much, wife, for allowing your mind to go there when the thought of being with any other woman has never once crossed mine. You don’t come home, and maybe it will.”

Then he threatened her if she doesn’t come home that maybe he will cheat. That’s how much remorseful he really is.

“My head snaps back as if he threw an uppercut square into my jaw. He’s as blind when it comes to her as he is with denial.”

“That is not the way you treat the love of your life. I will pretend you didn’t say that to me because you are bitter and hurt. You did cheat, Mason. Maybe not physically. You cheated on me by stripping my rights of being your wife the minute you opened your mouth to her. To me, that is unforgivable.
“You want me to bury myself in some other woman’s body? All you have to do is say the word, and I’ll find a nice warm body to drown you out. You are throwing our life together away over a mistake. Christ.”

“You lied to your wife, man. It wasn’t just a white lie, it was intentional. You can’t convince me otherwise. Sit there and chew on what the two of you have done to Eden. Sit there and think of all the goddamn times that bitch called and no matter what you were doing, you stopped to talk to her.”

“I’m disappointed in you. You claim I’m in denial and what do you do to help, you run away. That’s a piss poor wife if I’ve ever seen one.”

So he’s the one that lied, went to another woman and the heroine is a shitty wife? Tsk tsk.

So now I have a dilemma. While I hated the hero throughout the book. I liked how the heroine stood her ground. She had her moments of weakness when hero tried to used sex to get her to bend her to his will or excuses but for the most of the parts she held herself strong. She even punched the other woman’s face.
There was one thing I enjoyed from the hero was his tears when they tried to remove his wedding ring in the hospital. That’s all. I’ll have to think about the rating later.

2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!
============

He does not accept the end of his career and seeks support from the OW who enables him to resume his career, even though he knows that he will put his life at risk. He is in denial and resenting the heroine for wanting him to end his career. He is selfish and only thinks about what he wants and how to achieve it. By deceiving the heroine for two years and seeking support from another woman, he cheats on her emotionally and breaks their vows. He trusts and exchanges confidences with another woman instead of his wife or close friends. He empowers another woman to interfere in his life and marriage.
He does not physically get involved with the other woman, but uses her support to fuel his desire to resume his career. He does not accept that he is no longer physically fit to fight.
The other woman doesn't care about his well being, she just wants to profit from his return.
Hero has a problem with managing his anger and have violent attitudes, speaks horrible and hurtful things to the heroine.
Our heroine maintains her position and does not throw the dirt under the rug, she demands that he seek help and control the anger and denial that he finds himself.
Sometimes he looks like a child who has not had his will satisfied and has tantrums.
At the end of the reading I was tired.

‼️This was a horrible book. I’m sorry but it was just bad.

-Betrayal - love me a good betrayal grovel with no cheating but this was just not done right at all.

-Husband loves his wife so much BUT he loves boxing more.

-He can’t box anymore or he might DIE so he lies to his wife for 2 years and still spars behind her back and he confided in his female agent to try and get boxing back.

-He didn’t emotionally cheat his TRUE mistress was boxing.

-He knows what he is doing. They have trust vows tattooed on their bodies cause they promised to never lie to each other…they grew up in foster care and are each others entire worlds….. or so she thinks.

‼️Here is where the author really messed this up what could have been a good betrayal redemption book….

‼️IN A BETRAYAL TROPE YOU MUST HAVE A REDEMPTION ARC. THE READERS NEED TO SEE CHANGE IN THE HERO. And we never get it ….. not once did this hero pull his head out of his ass and make a good choice. NOT ONCE.

‼️All this guy did was whine and cry about EVERYTHING. He went into destruction mode and continued to hurt the love of his life all because he couldn’t come to terms with not boxing.

‼️He NEVER ONCE CHOSE HIS WIFE AND UNBORN CHILD. He was forced to at the end but he never made one choice to let boxing go….. TO THE VERY LAST PAGE!

‼️Untrustworthy author. She told us an over and over everything little thing that made this couple so strong and amazing. Fighting through foster care, bonding at a young age. Being each others one and only.
Having to fight out of poverty. These things build lots of relationship and character strength. But the author only shows us what a spineless selfless cry baby the hero is. No where in this book did I see the amazing characters or relationship that the author tried to sells us. So all the readers get is a hero throwing tantrums and hurting the only person he loves continuously for 300 PAGES!

🤬He say some bad stuff. Like he never wanted kids, he will fuck OW to get over her, would he have done t? I don’t think so he said it to hurt and manipulate her cause he emotionally manipulated her over and over. He would bulldoze his way to see her but then turn right around and hurt her and push her further away. He was a horrible hero.

‼️Had we seen his character growth or him choosing his wife and child at any time in this book then I could forgive him but HE DIDNT. Up to the end he destroyed their room and told her he was done with her and to pack her bags and then he left on a 2day binder. This was at like 90 something percent.

❌ The author was NOT thinking shit out when writing this. She was trying to make so much drama that she made him so unlikable and inconsistent. And ultimately he never redeemed himself.

‼️His childish destructive behavior went to the last page then 💥 BAM several years later Epilogue!!! We don’t even get to see the healing and growth. Just told it happened. After 300 pgs of torture! What a mess.

‼️I’m not totally letting the h get ff easy either. She handled some things wrong but she was a wife worried about loosing her husband. His life was on the line so her actions were extreme but I get it cause she literally wanted to save him from himself and from dying.
At least she had backbone!

❌This was bad ….one of the biggest lost opportunities ever. It could have been so good. But it just sucked.

💯One thing I liked was that they were both faithful to each other physically🤬 even if he did threaten to loose himself in OW bodies to get over her 😑DOUCHE

I have to admit that I found this one a little slow going and struggled to connect with the characters, which I was disappointed with because I’d heard good things about it.

Of all the stories I have read in the Cocky Hero Club, this is probably the most intense one so far. If I’m being honest, the cover of the book steered me to think there would be some heaviness to the story-line. I don’t know why, but the pose and the punch pose just screams intense to me and I am super glad the story delivered on that standpoint because I’m the worst cover snobs of all cover snobs LOL so this is a huge plus for me!! :)

This is a unique story because this couple has already done the romance journey, now they’re in a battle for their HEA. The story is very real and incredibly relatable. It is raw and passionate and does not hold back nor does it pull any punches. I wouldn’t say the story is heavy but it is intense. The passion that poured off the pages had me hooked from the very beginning. I honestly had no idea how this entire story would turn out until it did. Amazing story that has put this author on my radar!

I found this on an emotional cheating list, but I didn’t find it a great fit or particularly emotional. This book is part of a multi-author series called Cocky Hero Club. I was confused because it felt like I was supposed to already know the characters/plot, but I couldn’t find where it was connected to any in the series. Deep into the book, I realized that the secondary characters (Chance & Aubrey) were from Cocky Bastard which I found even more perplexing since it’s from different authors. Is this this fanfiction? (I haven’t read that series, so I don’t know if Eden and Mason came from that book.) Regardless, feeling out of sorts the majority of the story made becoming invested pretty much impossible. I’m tagging the rest for spoilers, I’ll try to be vague, but 🛑if you want zero details.

Hard hero to like

I really didn't like Mason. I thought he was a jerk and the things He said to Eden made me want to hurt him. And then Natalie? Was she had or was she totally innocent of the stuff she was accused of? I couldn't tell. But I do think Mason betrayed his wife. I understand why she left and his drinking and blacking out was just off the charts. The damage he did to their bedroom was awful. I still didn't like him in the epilogue. Just too much angst and not enough romance. The sex scenes were a little too crude and didn't resemble anything romantic to me. I did like the book but I wish he would have been a better man.

OMG Kathy why didn't you warn me I would need a large box of tissues to get me through this book. If like me you thought this was going to be like any other fighter book then get ready because you are in for a big surprise.

Eden and Mason's story like their marriage brought me to the brink of despair and then slowly put me back together again. This is a hard read because it is real and Kathy held nothing back. Mason is floundering unable to accept his new reality he starts keeping secrets and making decisions without his wife. When everything comes out the sense of betrayal she feels cannot be underestimated or pushed under the carpet. All of this left me feeling raw and exposed. Kathy wrote both POV's with such depth and realism I was there for every confrontation and new discovery. I felt those tentative glimmers of hope that their trust could be restored and that love would prevail.

This was not the book I thought I was going to read it was so much more and one I would recommend.

What a book! I wanted to cry throughout the whole book. I don‘t know what I expected but it wasn‘t this.

Eden and Mason knew eachother since they where children and with their past it wasn‘t hard for them to fall head over heals for eachother. Both of them are very strong characters and the love they have for eachother is amazing.

The book starts of with a bang. It‘s definitely not the only bang throughout the story. Mason struggles with losing his dream which is understandable since he‘s been doing it for a very long time. Eden has been on Mason‘s side every time and I personally feel her decision was good.

Their story shows you that even after the Happy End we all love in our books, the characters can still struggle and have problems that they might or might not get over.

Fateful Fighter was amazing! It was raw, steamy and so much more than I expected.

Also seeing Chance and Aubrey in another setting was so cool!

My rating: 3 1/2 stars.

What I liked: I really liked how the wife punched the ow in her face and how she stood up to Mason. I also loved the secondary characters.

What I didn’t like: I didn’t like how Mason would try to use sex to get her to forgive him and would get mad at her when it didn’t work. I also hated all the inner dialogue especially with the Hero (what Mason was thinking and the way he was acting really didn’t add up) what he needed was an ass kicking.

How hot was it: 3 out 5

Triggers: The H emotional cheats on his wife

Final thoughts: This was a good emotional cheating book but I just wished we got more at the end (I felt like they finally got back together and then it was the epilogue)

My heart slowly broke reading this book. Watching a strong marriage crumble. Seeing a fissure cause an earthquake that broke them.
Kathy Coopmans has made me feel every word. Spilling emotions on the pages that brought me to tears more times than I can count.
Trust was broken and both were hurting. Mason and his marriage was spiraling out of control. Until Mason hits rock bottom HARD!
I LOVE Kathy's dark side but Gah! this emotional book is high on my list of favorites by her.

This is the story of what happens mentally to
Superstars when their time in the limelight is over. The H is the Champion boxer of his era. Problem is he can no longer fight because he’s had one too many blows to the head. He’s not supposed to ever fight again because he could die.For 2 years he’s been planning a come back with his OW manager— this book is about emotional cheating not physical. His wife the fmc thinks ow manager was fired all this time. She’s a sleazy gal out for herself and the big bucks. This is what happens when the fmc finds out what her husband had been planning behind her back. There’s hurt and angst and a lot of groveling.

I have read emotional gut wrenching books before; I have written reviews about how good they are and even given them 5* but nothing prepared me for 'Fateful Fighter'! Kathy Coopmans has taken 'emotional and gut wrenching' to another level!

I have never read a book where a couple were so in love and this flowed throughout the book and made this story even more compelling as you wondered how a couple so contacted ended up where this story takes them and has you thinking about Eden and Mason long after you go on to your next book!

"I'm not coming home. Not today, not tomorrow, not next week. What you have done isn't something I'll sweep under the rug Mason'

If Eden's and Mason's marriage was falling apart because Mason had had an affair then Eden could try and move on but when the one thing that is destroying your marriage is the one thing that could kill your husband but is the one thing he wants to do more than anything - how do you fight it! Mason was a champion boxer but had to give up fighting because one more blow to the head could kill him. But when he is dangled a carrot to fight again Mason goes into denial about his health and sees the glory of the ring within reach once more!

Eden has been hurt and betrayed believing that Mason was truly embracing life outside the ring as a trainer to an up and coming fighter. But that was the furthest thing from the truth and one lie threatens to destroy their marriage. Faced with the truth that maybe her marriage has been a lie for the last 2 years Eden one tough woman has to do something she never thought she would but she it for the man she has loved most of her life - she only hopes she has made the right decision to help her husband find himself before its to late!

Mason feeling that his life is over embarks on a dark journey of destructions; but you have to reach rock bottom before you can finally start to climb out the dark hole that is surrounding you; sometimes the only way back to the top is by clawing your way up. Mason is about to undertaken the biggest fight of his life or the darkness will swallow him up once and for all!

A solid 4.5⭐️ Read!
This book flowed so effortlessly. The raw emotion was so well written you can feel the pain, the sadness & the emotional heartache with each sentence you read. Their story although fiction seems so real to anyone married & trying to deal with everything that happens within a marriage. I love how Eden isn’t afraid to express her pain, making sure Mason realizes what he has done wrong. This story was emotional & raw. It pulled me in & kept me intrigued, wondering what was going to happen. They have known each other forever & developed a security, not realizing that their relationship had changed in a way that hurt them, but will bring them out stronger than ever!! A beautiful emotional read!

I highly recommend this book. Told in dual POV.

I was so disappointed with this, I just couldn't connect with it or feel the emotions!!
There was so much inner monologue, I got bored and found myself skimming so much just for the conversation parts and then to see how it ends.

I really did want to like this but sadly just fell short for me 😔

Get ready for a different side of Kathy Coopmans! This book! O.M.G. I LOVE this book. I love books that you can get such a connection too. The reality of this book could hit home for a few readers.

I was sucked in right from the start and I didn’t want to put this book down. The emotions of Eden and Mason just pour out in the book. As a couple, you want to see them to come together. The passion that they have for each other. I cried for them. I wanted to see their marriage work. I wanted so much for them. My heart broke for them.

The only downfall is it left me wanting more of this couple. I can’t stress enough how wonderful this book truly is.

Wow what a story. I’ve been reading and loving some heavy books lately and fancied a change. I thought this would hit the spot. Well I’m not sure if it did or not as it was totally not what I expected. It gave me all the feels and now I want to inhale each and every one of this authors books.

Eden and Masons story touched me. I felt my heart breaking for them and kept hoping the author would put their relationship back together along with my heart. It’s told really well .

Sucked me in from start to finish. A flawless story with great depth. Totally not what I was expecting and I loved it even more than I thought I would.

Quite ott.
The hero is a boxer who had to retire because his brain was damaged by too many hits. He cannot even take another single hit either he risk severe disability.
But he is in denial and for two years he’s been planning a match with the help of his agent. His female agent.
And the heroine finds out accidentally.
She leaves him. Because , betrayal.
She doesn’t want him to box and she is hurt that he confided in ow and not her.
Ok, he regrets it and he’s hurt that she left him.
Words are said, he’s a jerk, but she’s a bitch too, so they are a very good pair.
There’s a pregnancy and in the end all is well.
There’s not a lot here.
The hero’s anger for not being able to fight. The betrayal of trust.
The heroine though, is ballsy. And she doesn’t leave anything unsaid.
So to me the book was a bit ott. Both faithful.

Drama, unnecessary drama. I don't know what this was that I just read, but it was a hot ass mess The MC's must have been in another book. I don't know why we should like or even care about the these characters. This book rambled on and on about a 15 year marriage that read like a 6 month marriage. All the characters were very immature.

This was a break from the authors usual style, and I really missed her suspense, but it was perfect for a stand alone in something that isn't her world.
Unfortunately, for me personally I struggled to connect with the characters, and was a bit too light for my tastes. It may just be the head space I'm in and I know many will love.
Still reccomend to read.

Fateful Fighter had the potential to be an emotional read, but I found myself unable to connect with this one. I kept starting and stopping, I kept coming back hoping I would fall for it, but I never did.

This was a bit too slow for me to find myself invested, and I was never overly hooked on the style. I’m not sure what it was exactly, but it just never pulled me in.

I’m sure some will enjoy this one, but it didn’t work for me.

Gut Wrenching..Soul-Deep Heartache..The level of emotional rawness that Kathy writes in this story is one that will leave you processing Mason and Eden's story for days!! You will be stipped bare right along with them! Mason and Eden have a love that we all dream of having. Their love is real, messy, honest, and one built on truth and promises. See that is the crazy thing about promises, they give you the most amazing feeling when they are kept. But what happens when those promises are broken and shattered. How do you sort through the shattered pieces to try and put the pieces back together. It is hard to fully tell you how I feel without giving away any spoilers to the story, so I need you to one-click Fateful Fighter and read it for yourself! Mason and Eden's story is one that could be any of ours. I think that is one thing that makes this story pack such a punch! (See what I did there :) )

They got together at the end. It’s disgusting trying to glorify a toxic marriage.

What Mason (the MMC) needs is a long intensifies therapy. What he said to his wife and what his anger did is NOT IT. It’s horrible, it’s revolting. His real true love is boxing. He should’ve been killed from boxing. Now that’s an HEA.

A married couple that loses their way; embedded in lies and secrets, when love isn’t enough. He emotionally cheated on his wife. For two years his Agent Natalie and himself planned, schemed and connived, withholding his plans to reenter the competition ring. Never once considering the ramifications of the secrecy and of keeping this hidden from his wife.

Chance lifts his head, hostility, resentment, and a heap of disgust, ready to jump out of him and beat me to death. If a man could shoot someone dead with his eyes, I’d be walking through those gates right now.

Mason should have known better, recognising and admitting his biggest mistake was not telling Eden. He would have confessed, that he cheated on his wife. He went to another woman. Someone his wife distrusts and dislikes. Natalie might have helped with his career; she isn’t helping with his marriage. They are both destroying it.

Hearing that I emotionally cheated heats my blood. “Natalie isn’t the problem. I went to her”.
“You intentionality lied to your wife. Once it soaks in, you tell me if you wouldn’t feel betrayed and cheated on. Have you spoken with Natalie lately?” He might as well have punched me in the gut with the way he spat those truthful words out. “I’ve ignored Natalie’s phone calls, texts all the while grateful she’s out of town tending to another client while I ruin my life up even more. One afternoon, they were hanging out on the beach. That particular night, Eden and Aubrey got drunk. Their fun went ruined the second his phone rang, he answered and it was Natalie. Eden ranted, blaming it on the alcohol he stepped inside to talk. Come to think of it, Chance is right, I did that a lot. Time and time again, when Eden would ask me what Natalie wanted, I tossed her name around using the phrase, Natalie said. In definition to emotional infidelity, I cheated on my wife. “You better sit back and take a look at the big picture here. You could lose your wife over what you’ve done. I get why you’d trust Natalie; she’s been with you for a long time, but if you want to save your marriage, you need to cut ties with her”.

Their marriage is ending but they’re having a baby. Natalie was an exploitative Agent and Mason bestowed an all-encompassing power, complete access to his professional decisions. She did not act independently, he emotionally, figuratively and metaphorically betrayed his wife. For two years they schemed, plotted, kept secrets and connived together. A man diagnosed with a death sentence should he continue cheating death.

Ok. So I may be in the lower percentage, but the FMC almost ruined the book for me. The H is a retired boxer from having too many blows to the head. This was recommended as having emotional cheating, but I disagree with that aspect. Yes, the female agent was ruthless and greedy and would do anything to get Mason to fight again, but the way Eden flew off the handle made me irritated. Yes, get angry for a bit, but don't run away from it. Also, her not about to tell Mason she was pregnant had me knocking off a star. Both were selfish in my opinion. I do agree him holding out on Eden for two years lying about talking to his agent Natalie was wrong. Look I get it. I'm married to an ex MMA fighter, and retirement wasn't easy, and he still says he'd like to get into the cage and fight. That's NEVER going to leave him or any other man, woman who was a professional fighter. I think Eden made Mason suffer enough and the dude needed therapy to help him combat his demons because sometimes your partner isn't always going to be enough to take shit head on. And he needed outside help. The bitch agent needed her ass kicked. I mean what sport agent isn't a greedy little leech? That's how they make their money. But considering the agent Natalie did cheat with another sport's star the year prior I could see the distrust Eden had. I would have went 10 rounds with the wench. Anyways, it was good considering the FMC, but I also knocked off a star for how repetitive it was. Chapters and chapters of the exact same thing being said. These two should have went straight to couple's therapy right from the start, but both were stubborn bordering on stupid. There's grovel from Mason. He's seriously madly in love with his wife. You could see it from the get go. He did say some things that he deserved to be punched for though. I'll give you that.

Maybe I'm becoming too desensitized when it comes to emotional cheating 🤔 also, I'm more interested in reading the side character story of Audrey and Chance.

I wanted to love the book but I found it a little slow or atleast for me. I was interested once I read the blurb however I didn't feel like it lived up to it. Dont get me wrong its not bad it just didn't grab me. With this book we meet Mason and Eden who have known each other their whole lives and are even married, until she asks for a divorce. It is pretty difficult for people who have known you your whole life, since they do they can hurt worse. But these need to find out is it worth it, should they even bother
