Stud in the Stacks (The Girl Band Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 6,591 ratings

"Steamy, sexy, and laugh out loud funny." ~ 5 Stars, Smut Book Junkie Book Reviews

He's a librarian by day and the ideal fake boyfriend by night.

When it comes to women, I know what they want. And all day long, I give it to them. Dark, broody, and sexy? You got it. Need to laugh? I’m your guy. Desperate for something to put you in the mood? You’ve come to the right place, kitten.

Every morning when my library opens, there’s a line around the block, the ladies flocking to me in need of their next book boyfriend. I’m
that dude. The one who knows his way around the romance section.

And after years of study, my skills don't stop at the day job. Need a fake boyfriend, fiancé, or friend-with-benefits? I know that plot. I also know to keep my heart off the table, because love is only real between the pages of a book.

So when Parker Elliott needs a temporary fake boyfriend for a reunion, of course I step in. She rocks a mean guitar, she has no idea how attractive she is, and we have something of a history.

Easy, right?

Yep. Piece of cake.

Except this time, I'm actually in danger of falling in love.

Stud in the Stacks is 55,000 sexy, hilarious, sometimes embarrassing words, complete with tacos, romance novel love, unicorn parties, and no cheating or cliffhangers.

Pippa Grant wanted to write books, so she did.

Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine published under the name Jamie Farrell.

When she’s not writing romantic comedies, she’s fumbling through being a mom, wife, and mountain woman, and sometimes tries to find hobbies. Her crowning achievement? Having impeccable timing for telling stories that will make people snort beverages out of their noses. Consider yourself warned.

Enjoyed this story. Listened to the audiobook. Narrators are Joe Arden and Karen White. You can’t go wrong with Joe as a narrator. Karen is new to me and her voice took while to get used too. This book is a Rom Com with some spice. Throw in a Fake Engagement, a male librarian who loves romance books you know you will also get some laughs.

    Love love love this book!

How could you not with a first paragraph like this .....
'Even though it’s been six years since I stripped for a roomful of women, I’m pleased to report my loincloth still fits in all the right places. Tad more snug in front than I remember, but if I had to grow, might as well be in the junk.'

Knox and Parker are my favourite characters so far and the support characters are all really great and all deserve their own books but so far it's just Sia and Chase (if you are reading them in suggested order) but Willow is up next (happy dance).

It is one of those books that makes you smile the whole way through and also makes you laugh out loud. Not easy to stop reading.

Parker is easy to relate to and we all deserve a Knox in our lives (but not Parker's phone, which is hilarious in itself, don't believe me, just you wait).

    Love your work Pippa Grant!

This is the kind of romance book that can easily polarise readers. You’re either going to be snorting with laughter, cackling at the innuendos or you’ll be rolling your eyes at the crassness of it all. I fall into the group of snorting cacklers.

Foremost, this book pays homage to romance books and romance book readers. Knox Moretti, aka Mr. Romance, and our hero is a librarian and romance book blogger. He exhibits many traits of hardcore romance readers; his Kindle is filled with books, he is quick to recommend a book based on tropes, he wants to convert others, he gifts books to aid in said conversion, and he regularly consults his Goodreads shelves. I found myself highlighting all of the books Knox recommended and I admit to adding a few to my own Goodreads shelves.

Parker Elliott, the heroine, propositions Knox into playing her fake fiancé at her school reunion where an important business contact will be attending. Parker had a horrible time at high school and as a result never really shook off her insecurities. Add in several failed relationships and a perpetual case of foot-in-mouth syndrome, Parker is still a bundle of awkwardness 20 years later.

Knox and Parker embark on this fake relationship and it takes little time for the attraction to flare between them. These two really know how to get it on. But they both agree to a casual arrangement since neither is looking for commitment. Ah, the delusions of romance book characters...

There are many humorous and laugh out loud moments both between Knox and Parker as well as other secondary characters. And as funny as these characters were, there were just too many of them. After a time I found it hard to kept them all straight. I gave up and just went along for the ride.

This is sexy, flirty and bawdy read. It’s fun!

Where can I meet my own Stud in the Stacks?
An intelligent man who knows romance and can hold a decent conversation (sigh). When swoon worthy Knox crosses paths with the hot mess that is Parker sparks will fly, maybe the odd witty comment or fist.

I absolutely loved this book, now must read others in the series.

This is my first Pippa Grant story and I chose it simply because a male, romance reading librarian is unheard of as far as I know, and as of now, number one on my book boyfriend list! He can come knox knox knoxing on my door any time he likes. I also identified with Parker in oh so many ways. Her insecurities, her sucky high school experience, and...#bleep bleep bleep#. The story was real, heartfelt, snort out loud hilarious, and I aspire to one day be as awesome as Knox's grandmother. Definitely be purchasing more stories in this series!

I want my own Knox, please and thank you. He's sweet, sexy and he loves to read Romance novels. Sigh.
This story is funny, sweet, funny, hot, funny, angsty and just a little fun to read. I laughed out loud, a lot. Pippa Grant is an amazing writer with a wicked sense of humour. Definitely a must read (as are all her books).

This author has kept me awake reading into the wee hours of the morning far too many times. And there’s no trying to read quietly in bed while hubby sleeps beside me. Reading a Pippa Grant book is anything but a quiet experience. I dare you to read her work and not laugh out loud several times. It’s a physical impossibility. Like touching your tongue to your elbow, it cannot be done. And this book is full of zany hilarity, from absurdly racy and outrageous autocorrected texts to a slapstick scene of the heroine with an unfortunate habit of misreading restroom signs and her uncontrolled babbling, there is an abundance of side-splitting scenes.

This is an author who clearly doesn’t take things too seriously. In case the fake fiancé trope isn’t enough, she tosses in a hot librarian, bachelor auction, and even a babysitter trope to top things off. Her book titles are clearly tongue-in-cheek, and (dare I say it?) seem to poke fun at those serious alpha, virgin, billionaire, yada yada, titles that have quickly grown tiresome. These things, alone, would attract me to Ms. Grant's work, but after reading just one book, I had to read them all. Call it compulsion, addiction or obsession, I can’t get enough! Her work is like that first warm day of spring after a wet, frigid winter, or the beautiful rainbow after a violent thunderstorm – unique, refreshing, and delightfully surprising.

This one has a little of everything, starting with Knox, a sexy Mr. Romance blogger/librarian with a hero complex, and Parker, the nerdy girl who grew up smart and beautiful but has yet to realize the beautiful part. First of all, how can you not fall for a guy who knows and loves romance novels? And when the nerdy girl gets the chance to face down all the mean girls and bullying jocks at the high school reunion? Epic. Add in Parker’s gal pals, the puck brother giants, Zeus and Ares, Parker's four huge, overprotective brothers, and Mr. Romance's nana who never met a subtle word and it’s good times all around. Really, though, there’s so much more to this book.

Yes, there’s a lot of endorphin-producing laughter, but there are plenty of hot times and enough heart to make the puck brothers look toddler-size in comparison. Not only the emotion in the relationship between Knox and Parker, as well as relationships with secondary characters, but the heart that is truly, well, the heart of the romance genre. Mr. Romance says it best, that romance novels “are really about humanity’s hope and struggles and triumphs” and encourage readers to be better people and do more “volunteering, donating to good causes, and raising the next generation of men and women” to also be better people. The strong message of this book is that romance novels are nothing to be ashamed of reading, but their human elements of humor, sensuality and emotion should be shared and celebrated. This one will touch all the little corners of your mind, heart and soul, and you’ll be ready to start your own Pippa Grant book club so you can share her work with all your friends.

I loved Pippa Grant’s first published novel, Mr. McHottie, and was really looking forward to reading her follow-up book, Stud in the Sacks. I was not disappointed. While the new Hero and Heroine in this book were Parker and Knox, I was happy to also read the continuation of the storyline of their friends from McHottie, Chase and Sia, and their family members because they are people I have grown to love!

Oh Parker! She is such a mess and starts off with little confidence. We have all felt that way at one time or another and I could really relate to her and feel her pain of not fitting in, but it really consumed her and carried into her professional life as well as her personal life. She has many qualities I admire in a female heroine–she can laugh at her self, she goes after what she wants even though she is insecure, she is a smart businesswoman and financially independent, and she likes to help others.

After she meets Knox again after many years (I won’t ruin the surprise of how they knew each other) I felt their immediate attraction to one another. I loved Knox and how confident he was, how he continually let Parker know how awesome she really was, and how super sexy he was and they were together! I really admired how Knox loved reading romance novels and had his own blog in addition to working as a librarian, how he lived with his grandmom, and how he stood up to his boss, Parker’s brothers, and for Parker whenever the opportunity presented itself. He possessed all the qualities of a hero to me! I just thought Parker tried to control him a bit by repeatedly suggesting he market his blog when he told her he did it just for fun.

There were a lot of good laughs as well as sweet moments in this book, especially Knox repeatedly trying to charm Parker. The only thing I would change would be Parker's personality. I think her insecurities were a bit over the top and continued through most of the book to the point of her not wanting to have children of her own and her brothers feeling they still needed to protect her even though she was in her 30s. I prefer a stronger heroine and she couldn't get over how she was treated in high school even though Knox found her very attractive and she was a successful business person. I was disappointed towards the end of the book how she reacted when he told her how he felt. She finally did come around at the end of the book which was a credit to Knox and his determination that she see herself the way that he saw her. Knox was the real deal and proved it over and over again! I would date him in a heartbeat!

This book does have a happy ending so I absolutely do recommend it, especially if you read and enjoyed Mr. McHottie. I am looking forward to reading the next book about Sia's brothers who play hockey. I read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
