What a great story!!
Listen (seriously), if you can only pick one book to read today, this one has to be the one!! #TRUST A fantastic read with characters you will love and root for. A well-developed plot that came together seamlessly and with zero holes. I am ecstatic over this book you guys! There’s an incredible amount of heart woven into every single circumstance in this story. This story is not simply a romance journey; it’s a story of family, those we chose and those we don’t, loyalty, friendship, integrity and above all, trust. A fast-paced story that brought tremendous joy to my life! Weeks later and I still find myself smiling!
Sidenote: Who doesn’t love a heroine who screams “Lying liar who lies.”?? *swoon* she had me at … all of her :)

Cocky Contender is a fabulous read. I inhaled it in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down.
Marco gave up his MMA life to try and save his family gym. Mila is trying to escape from her past. She gets more than she bargained for when she meets Marco. These two are brilliant together and I was so rooting for them to find some happiness.
Can’t wait to read more from this author.

This book was a surprise for me,I expected Marco to be a complete jerk. He is what we all dream of a good man. Mila isn't just a damsel waiting to be reduced she will do the rescuing. I have a new author for one click list.

I had a bit of a debate about what rating to give this one. A part of me wanted to round my three-point-five-star rating up, but, in the end, I couldn’t quite bring myself to do so. I certainly enjoyed this one, devouring it in a single sitting, but I had been hoping for a little bit more.
The reasons I opted to round down instead of up are simple. The first is that I wanted more emotion from the backstory. It was powerful, but I feel it was glossed over in places. The characters were great together, I loved the way the backstory influenced their development, but I wanted a wee bit more emotion from it than what was given. The second is that the ending felt a bit rushed. It was clear where things were heading, and there was the potential for a lot to happen. As it was, things happened quickly and were over with in the blink of the eye.
Although it wasn’t quite everything I had hoped for, I was certainly hooked throughout. I loved watching things develop between the characters, I adored so many of their moments, but I just wish there had been a little bit more to the story than was given. Of course, I’m just super picky, and I’m sure many will be happy with what was given.
All in all, Cocky Contender was an addictive read I had to devour in a single sitting.

3.5 Stars
I have been enjoying all of these new to me authors lately!! It’s always a treat being able to dive head first into a new author's work. You never know what they're about to bring to the table. And what’s even better is the joy that comes along with falling for a new author’s characters and story line.
If I’m being honest, I’m VERY picky with fighter romances. I don’t know what it is about these types of book boyfriends that causes my critical thinking to come into play. The main thing I look for when it comes to any sports romance, especially fighter (boxing/MMA/Illegal Underground) romances, is game play. I literally live for these moments where the fighter is going head to head with his opponent. I love the raw vibes that lead to the gut wrenching question, is he going to make it out of the cage alive?
So to say I was a bit hesitant to read this novel would be an understatement. I try to be as positive with my criticism as possible. With that being said, I really enjoyed the relationship between Mila and Marcus….but…. I wanted more moments where Marcus thrived in his element. I wanted to see him in the cage kicking ass and taking names. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed there wasn’t more in the cage moments and more detail. I needed and wanted more action. I wanted to see Marcus in his element. I wanted to see the Lion roar.
Now enough with the criticism and let’s get onto what I really enjoyed about Cocky Contender!
Mila and Marcus’s chemistry is sizzling! I couldn’t get enough of their flirtatious vibes and Marcus’s swoony sex appeal! I thought I was going to have to get the fire extinguisher out and spray down my kindle. Cocky Contender definitely gets the sexy as sin award!! I loved these two together!!!!
Mila was definitely my favorite character in this novel. I loved her independence, but her fear gave her the fragile vibes that is easy for readers to connect with. I have a soft spot for women that are on the run from people in their past. Throughout this whole novel I found myself trying to watch out for this girl, like the crazy loon I am! I had to repeatedly tell myself, *Alecia, this isn’t real life. THis is a romance novel. Mila is going to get her happily ever after in the end, and her abusive ex is going to get what’s coming to him.* No matter how many times I tried to talk myself down, I still found my heart beating heavily with suspicion every time a new character walked in the chapter. I knew eventually evil would show it’s form. After all, evil can’t stay hidden for very long.
I felt Mila’s heartbreak as she was telling Marcus all about her horrible past and everything she recently had gone through. I felt the anger Marcus felt when he tried to process the history of Mila’s abuse. This man showed his true strength in this moment. No strength shown in the cage is stronger than the strength it took for him not to hunt the sorry excuse for a man down and beat his ass.
Overall, the romance between Marcus and Mila was off the charts! I loved the sexy banter and the love these two shared. I loved Marcus’s alpha tendencies when it comes to Mila and her protection. I honestly couldn’t get enough of these two. I rated this a 3.5 star because I needed more in the cage moments. I wanted to see this man dominate and live up to the hype that was surrounded around him. There was so much potential for these moments to be great. Bottom line, I wanted and needed more of Marcus in his element.

I went into this book having not picked up Stuck Up Suit in the original world by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland, I didn't feel like I missed anything by reading this way either. Cocky Contender is about Marco an ex MMA fighter who is trying to save his gym from going under. When a new hire for the gym named Mila catches his eye he has to know more about her, the chase is on.
I really enjoyed this novel by JM Kelley, the characters were likeable and there was enough has a back story to them both that they held some depth too. Ms Kelley wrote some great banter between the main protagonist, moments that had me grinning from ear to ear. When Marco would tease Mila about how attracted she is to him and she would throw it back at him just as good. I thought thee development of the relationship was well paced. I loved how Marco was perceptive to Mila's skittishness without knowing where it came from or why. He was a source of comfort for and helped her confidence grow after everything she had been through in a previous relationship. The plot twist was a good one, it certainly stirred the pot and added a bit of tension and suspense to the story.
What brought my rating down for this book was I found some scenes were overly detailed, there was too much description about elements that didn't matter. In my eyes it only served to slow the scene down and I could skim over sentences here and there and know I wouldn't miss anything; which made reading a little tedious at times.
Over all Cocky Contender was an enjoyable, easy read on the lighter side of romance with a good level of steam.

He needs to find someone to handle the front desk duties so when his friend Soraya suggests Mila for the job he is immediately attracted to the feisty and fiery beauty.
Mila’s need to escape her past has left her homeless and with no income. She knows that she can’t afford to stay in the same place for too long but this job would help her get on her feet but she never imagined that the thought of leaving Marco would hurt so much or how connected their pasts would be.
These two couldn’t be more perfect for each other as he will do anything to protect her with no thought of the consequences to himself while Mila’s strength and resilience shines through. This is my first story by this author, but I would definitely read her other stories.

Cocky Contender was an okay book. In it, you will meet the ex-MMA fighter Marco and Mila. They both work together, he owns the gym that she is now currently working in. Now they were kind of cute together with all their teasing throughout the book.
Yet, I was kind of bored with everything that was happening. I mean, yeah, they got a second chance at love and he was pretty perceptive about what was going on with Mila. We all know that she had secrets and I feel like things were just okay after Marco found out everything. There was no groveling or anything.. they just got back together.
Other than that, it was okayish book with a cute ending.

I think this is a first for me, never read this author before, but this book was phenomenal! I love both Marco and Mila and not only that, but I felt their story, which to me is worth more than liking the characters.

I fell in love with Marco and Mila. They were just perfect for each other, and I enjoyed reading about them and watching their relationship develop. Their chemistry was fantastic and the twists in this book had me eagerly reading on!

This is one of the best book of this cocky hero
club. It's a nice sport romance. The plot is nice as well, and the characters have a story to tell. Maybe the author could have played a little more their chemistry but even so that's pretty intense. What I really appreciate was the background of the main characters. Their past. And also his alpha protective vibe. of course....

Marco is an ex-MMA fighter who now runs his family's gym. The gym is struggling and Marco has to find a way to drum up business or he will lose everything. His good friend's sister works there but doesn't really do her job. Thankfully, she is about to leave to go to college. His best friend, Soroya, who he's had a secret crush on for a long time, finds him a replacement. The replacement is Mila. She is petite, feisty, and beautiful. She does a great job of taking over the position and even helps promote the gym. Mila has been hurt before and she is on the run. She was living in a women's shelter. She only needs a temporary job to help her get on her feet so that she can keep running from her past. When she meets Marco, she can't help but appreciate his good looks and sexy body, but Mila isn't looking for a relationship. Her life is too complicated and she isn't looking to drag anyone into her mess. When Marco sees her, he is immediately attracted to her. He knows that she is hiding something. He just has to figure out how to get her to trust him. Can Marco break down Mila's walls and convince her that they could be good together?
This was an emotional and angsty story with a touch of suspense. The plot was engaging. The love story was beautiful. I really like the characters. There is such a family feel. The characters each have issues and it makes for a great backstory. Their connection is undeniable. Marco was so swoony! He was so caring and protective of Mila. I really enjoyed this beautiful love story. This was the first read by this author but after reading this, I will definitely check out her other books.

This was a fast read between a former MMA fighter Marco who trying to save his family boxing gym and the new feisty employee Mila who he can't get out of his head. Mila who doesn't want to be a damsel in distress and do things her way. However Marco can't help himself given the circumstances she in.
It's fast and I loved the pace of this novel.Marco was very family driven and I love his interactions with his family. He showed Mila that he wasn't like her past and that he could provide what she needed. His intentions were always pure and Mila came along at the right time to show him that he could get over another woman and give everything to a special lady who made him want to be the best person for.
Mila's back story isn't too surprising once the pieces fall into place. Her secrets are ones that could be easily fixed and Marco showed her how. They were perfect for their needs at first but they quickly realise they meant something more than just boss and employee.
It's not a dark sport romance but it's addressed in a way that relates to the two leads. I love the little unspoken nod to the culture Marco is part of and the area he is in. I wanted more as Mila's reaction was hilarious given that she wasn't too clueless about the darkness that lurks in corners. It's the best of both worlds for these two and they couldn't be more perfect for each other.

Heartwarming! I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. This author is new to me. This is Marco and Mila's story. Cocky Contender is another story in the Cocky Hero series. This is a heartwarming story of a strong, flirty, overly protective alpha and a vulnerable woman trying to get back on her feet again. OMG, the chemistry between these two was so scorching. Mila is on the run from her past. A mutual friend helped Mila get a job at Marco's gym. The first time Marco met Mila; he knew that she was special to him. Can Marco break down her walls around her heart? I can't wait to read more from this author. Keep up the good work. I HIGHLY suggest that you read this ONE!

Marco has been put through the ringer lately. Not only has he finally come to terms his long-term crush to Soraya is done, but his gym is in trouble financially. When Mila walks through the door, his spirits are lifted until she puts him in his place. Marco likes a challenge though & looks forward to the chase.
Mila needs a job & to lay low & out of sight. When Soraya mentions Marco’s gym for a job, she jumps at the chance of hoping to get hired. She didn’t expect a gorgeous Italian stallion to be her boss. Her attempts to keep him at a distance fail miserably. But when she realizes her past is shockingly linked to his family, will she stay or run again?
This was a great read with two characters that compliment each other. Mila is tough & can hold her own, but deep down she longs for someone to care, protect & love her. Marco is a giant, selfless teddy bear who loves his family & pulls Mila quickly into his life. Another great addition to the series!

I usually enjoy MMA books, and I was really excited for this one since I've never read this author before.. it had so, so much potential but just felt so rushed, which made it difficult for me to really appreciate our characters.
Marco and Mila both have amazing backstories -- I mean truly incredible. The groundwork for this book and the amount of research the author put into it clearly shows, and they definitely had chemistry, but once it was headed to its culmination, it just fell flat.
I did really enjoy the beginning, though!

Great addition to the Cocky Hero Club. Even without reading Stuck Up Suit, which inspired this book, I was fully able to enjoy this story.
Marco and Mila were an awesome couple. I love that despite having escaped a really rough relationship, Mila took no shit from anyone. She's still settling into her re-found confidence and Marco is just the man to help her! Marco was the sweetest, fiercest, Lion in the jungle and he was smitten with Mila from their first meeting. He wears her down over time and once they take their shot, boy was it fire. They were dynamite together. I loved the twist later in the book, which added another element to all you feel for these characters. Great book!

JM Kelley is a new to me author, and let me tell you, I will be reading everything of hers from here on out. Marco is an ex-MMA fighter who is running his family's gym but things aren't going well at the moment because they need business to keep it open. Mila comes to work for him, but she's on the run from her past, so even though she thinks he's completely sexy, she cannot afford to get involved with anyone especially when she gets back on her feet again, and she'll hit the road again. They have chemistry, and since Marco knows that she's hiding things, he's determined to get her to trust him so they have a shot at a future together. Will his determination win Mila's heart?! Boxing has never been my thing, but reading about Marco and Mila and their connections to the... sport?...whatever it is, their foundations were deeply rooted in boxing. Mila's past broke my heart. No one should have to go through that. Watching how Marco and Mila's relationship strengthened and deepened to something more was heartwarming. The author is new to me, but the depth of the characters and their storyline was so well-written that the characters felt like old friends. That's on of my measures of a great book--how well I connect with them and how long they stay with me after I've read their story.

What happens when you are in love with your best friend? Well for Marco at some point you have to let go and live your life no matter how much it hurts you. Marco is a fighter, he owns it and he loves it, but he gave it up to help others. When he least expects it a women comes into his life when he didn't realize he needed it. Mila is beautiful and amazing, but she's also down on her luck and she's hoping a job with help. Mila and Marco get to know each other, the work together and Marco has this passion to protect her. Their lives are intertwined and I loved them together. I also loved Marco's family. When Marco decides to go back into the cage can Mila stop him?

A Knockout!!! Amazing!!
OMG!! I fell in love with Mila and Marco. Watching Marco grow from crushing on someone for so many years to being completely smitten with Mila. Mila struggling with her past and afraid to fall for Marco broke my heart a few times. But the chemistry between these two was so hot. The flow of the story was perfection. Wasn't to fast or too slow. This is a first book for me by this author and I am very impressed. This is a KO in round one for me.
