Maya Hughes, that's me!, can often be found sneaking in another chapter while hiding in the bathroom from her kids! :-) I’m a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, namely my husband and biggest fan. Inspiration also strikes when I hear a song, meet someone new or daydream while at soccer practice.

I’m the mom of three little ones, the wife to an amazing husband and also work full time. Some of my favorite things are cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, white wine, laughing until I can’t breathe, traveling with my family and Jeff Goldblum.

I’m so glad I got to read this before I started the series, I would still have been able to follow easy enough but this absolutely helped set the tone for the rest of the Kings books

Great prequel. Lots of age appropriate angst, drama with intro’s to the King’s in their last weeks before college. Definitely need to read more of them. Promising enemies to lovers, sports romance.

This short prelude was a great little teaser it introduces what I’m assuming is all of the main characters for the series and gives some background into their last moments at school together before heading to college .
Well written it has got my attention and I’ll be moving into the next book of the series ! :)

Never read anything by Maya before so thought I would start with this free prequel and I was immediately drawn into a world of young adults finding their way from graduating high school to moving onto a new path. But when this happens their are sometimes obstacles which have to be endured...people etc....to get to where you are going! Looking forward to more:)

This prequel was a great way to get a glimpse of the Kings of Rittenhouse. Declan and Mak’s story is definitely one I’d like to know more about.

While this prequel is from Declan and Makenna’s POV it gives us background on all the Kings of Rittenhouse. Explosive!

Declan can't wait to go to college and get that out of the way so he can go pro in hockey. He has to outdo his sperm donor, but he also wants to make his mom to be proud of him to graduate from school. And Declan has been the King of hockey for 4 years, so he's a shoe in.

So when the big bash party is coming up, he's very much excited to relax and have a good time with his second family on the hockey team.

But Makenna keeps getting in his way. First it was the yearbook information she needs from him to print the yearbook. He wouldn't have an issue answering it, but Mak is a bit snotty and perfect and impossible to make happy. So his life's mission in the past 4 years was to taunt her whenever she was nearby. By now, it's a game to see how much he can rile her up.

Declan just needs to forget about prom night, and things would be back to normal...

Mak doesn't have time for fun or parties or being popular. She needs to make sure she gets perfect grades to get a scholarship for Standford so her parents don't have to pay any money on that expensive school. And Mak has a promise she NEEDS to keep, so nothing can go wrong.

When her friends bully her into going to the "biggest party of the year" Mak really doesn't want to go. She needs to go over her final exam information for the 4th time to make sure she knows everything she needs.

But she did end up at the party, and of course the obnoxious Declan was there to egg her on again and again. If only she could forget about prom night, things would go back to normal for her...

This was a great novel! Wow, it sucked me in and left me hanging by the end of the novella. I knew it was short, but I really didn't think I would love it so much. So of course, the author gave me a hanging carrot and I immediately went and bought book #1 because I HAD to know what happens with Declan and Mak.

(And I also really, really, really need to know Emmett and Ashley's story!!! Seriously, I'm dying here! That ending was insane!!)

The banter between these two character was incredible and had me wanting more and more. And because nothing happened between them, I had to get the first book to see the whole playout between them.

So kudos, Maya Hughes, for getting me hooked like an addict. I am now going to be waiting very impatiently for all of the books in the series to come out, and you can have my money. I must know everything now!

So glad I stumbled upon this book and I CANNOT WAIT for the others to be released!

“Maybe she was afraid if she let go of me, I’d float away. It’s what I wanted sometimes. To be anyone, anywhere, except for me. Perfect match.”

It’s 11:53 PM in Brazil and I’m writing my last review of 2019 lol Since Fulton U was one of my favorite series this year, I decided that I wanted to end 2019 and start 2020 reading the Kings of Rittenhouse series!

I really liked this prequel because we got to know all the characters and their struggles a little. My favorite one so far is Makenna. She’s a troubled girl who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and doesn’t think she deserves happiness. I really felt her pain and I can’t wait to see her getting the love and attention she deserves.

I was so excited for Emmett and Avery and thought they were gonna be the softest couple of the group, but now I’m scared to see what the future holds for them. I think I already know why Avery did what she did, but it still hurts.

All in all, I think this is gonna be a great series and I’m excited to start 2020 with these characters.

Kings of Rittenhouse is just a short prequel or intro to the wonderful characters in this series. By way of senior prom and an end of year party, we get some insight into Mak and Declan's feelings toward each other as well as a few tidbits about some of the other characters. We get a little bit of Mak and little of Declan as the chapters alternate between the two, and from their points of view, we also learn a little about their friends and classmates. One thing's for sure, from what we're told in this quick read, this series certainly won't be boring.
