Someone is watching me. Luckily my mountain man is watching over me.
Hope:
I didn’t think they would find me here. I moved to the small town of Whiskey River three months ago, hoping I would finally be safe from my past. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I can breathe easier.
Then I meet the mountain man who makes my breath quicken. And my heart race.
He’s my protector – safe in his strong arms.
But my past is coming for me… and he might end up paying the price.
Cash:
The tracks along the treeline were my first clue. I might not have experience with women, but I know my way around the woods. And Hope is not safe living out here alone.
And I’m pretty sure that’s my fault.
Her stalker knows I have money, and that I’ll pay any price to keep the woman I love safe from harm.
But what her stalker doesn’t know is that I plan on making them pay instead.

Did anyone edit this book? The second book in the series is about Jenna and Phoenix. In this book the FMC has a best friend named Jana. It was a continuous issue where the author would be writing about Jenna and would start to call her Jana every few sentences and vice versa. There were lots of other editing issues as well but this was by far the most annoying.
Ok this one had a little more suspense to it! I’ll be honest, Cash was not so much of a good guy to me and was upset with him throughout different parts but everything seemed to come together- overall a good story!
Hope recently moved to Whiskey River and she loves it there. One day she meets Cash at the local grocery store. He had never been shopping before so she helped him. Their romance is a little slow moving, but it's worth it.
Cash is innocent in all things. Girls, flirting, shopping, being around people. He's used to being on the mountain with his brother- who recently passed. So now he's all alone. Hope helps him with things he doesn't know how to do, and Cash teaches Hope about mountain living.
I loved this novel. I'll definitely do a reread. Cash is so endearing and sweet.

Never knew I needed a mountain man in my life until I read this book. Hope and Cash were perfect together. Hope was finally free from her toxic environment and decided to start a new life in Whisky River Montana. Enjoying the mountain scenery and the beautiful natural landscape, Hope was happy to have new lease on life.
Cash has lived as a recluse for most of his life. Being raised by his older brother secluded in their cabin high in the mountains, Cash was a little standoffish and introverted but everything changed the moment he laid eyes on Hope.
Hope and Cash were a beautiful couple together. Hope enjoyed the simple things in life and love Cash the way he was. Cash not having much experience with people had a hard time adapting to social norms. Cash fell fast and hard for Hope and he was everything Hope never knew she needed. This couple did experience quite a few growing pains and had to learn to stop jumping to conclusions or making assumptions.
When Hope's past comes back and her life is in danger; Cash shows up and shows out proving that he was the man she needed and the only man who would go through any length to protect the woman he loves.
Quickie Review: I quickly dove into this one after devouring book 2. While I did love the romance between both Cash and Hope, there was so many errors and mistakes, that it became hard to enjoy the story like I wanted to. There have been a few errors in the previous books but nothing like this. It makes me a bit hesitant to start the next book. 4 Stars.
This was not my favorite in this series. It started off cute enough and it felt like the characters had a very genuine connection. Where it fell off for me was the miscommunications and the drama added to the story.
There was a bit of jumping to conclusions and actions taken by our two main characters that I didn’t like. They needed time to make being a couple work, but we had this outside conflict thrown in that took away from that.
While this disappointed me, I am still looking forward to the net book in this series. It seems it’s going to be a mail-order bride situation and I love those.
It just wasn’t for me. The H is very inexperienced and the h somewhat too. I just didn’t understand the insta attraction. Like the magnitude wanting the h to live with the H after one date.
I was waiting so patiently for Cash's story because his was the one that intrigued me the most. Being raised by a brother who was suspicious of everyone, so Cash grew up on the mountain in mostly solitude! Luckily he met the guys and they formed their tight-knit group.
While I really liked Axel's and Phoenix's stories, Cash's seemed a bit rushed to me. I really wanted to love this, but I didn't connect with him and Hope like I did with the other couples. I knew going into this that these couples hit it off and things progress very quickly, which I didn't mind.
I loved their meet cute though. How he was lost and didn't really know how to navigate a grocery store 🥹 Hope noticed and helped him out. It was precious.
I loved how shy Cash was. I hardly read any books with shy guys, so that was a nice change. And his protective side when it came to Hope. Can never go wrong with an alpha male!
I also wish I got more of Cole and Jana's story, but hopefully that's coming 👀
Either way, it was a cute read, I just wish there was more of a connection for me!
Can't wait for Bennett's book!

“Take Me to the Lake” is another good installment in the Whiskey River Mountain series. This is Cash and Hope”s story.
Cash has been taking care of his terminally ill brother. His brother raised him when their parents died in a car crash. Now he has been returning the favor. After his brother passes he is at a loss on how to take care of the everyday thins most of us take for granted like grocery shopping. His brother took care of all of that.
When he enters the local market, he is shell shocked; so, when Hope sees him she goes to his aid. They quickly become friends and soon lovers.
Hope hasn’t lived in Whiskey River for long but she loves it. She waits books for a living after escaping her druggie mother and her boyfriend. Now she is excited to start a good life. After meeting Cash, she knows that she has found the right man.
Like most stories, there is trouble brewing. Someone is watching and stalking Hope. The question is who and why?
These quick romantic reads are fun and sexy. They are perfect for a relaxing afternoon read. I enjoyed it and off to read the next book in the series.
I don't think any book in this series could get less than a 5 star review from me. I want to start by saying that one of my favorite thing about this series is that the men aren't experienced in relationships or sexually. With most romance books, the men are experienced in the bed and the woman is hanging onto their v-card. This is Cash and Hope's story and of course they hit it off quick. Hope is running away from her past while Cash is still recovering from the death of his brother. Their chemistry was perfect from the beginning, Hope was confident in her ability to connect with Cash. Cash is a major sweetheart, he even Googled how to be a good boyfriend! He is very protective over her and when people from Hope's past comes back to haunt her, it kicks into overdrive. This book had very little disagreements between the couple, no OW drama also draws me to this series. This book could be a stand alone but I would highly suggest reading the first 2 books in the series so you can get to know the other characters. I can't wait to see where the next book takes us, the storylines overlapping makes me especially excited.

Take Me to the Lake by Kaci Rose is a contemporary romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Elizabeth Russell and Bryant Walker. This is the third book in the Mountain Men of Whiskey River series.
This is the third book of Kaci's that I have read, and it won't be my last. The relationship between Cash and hope is fast paced but I really enjoyed them together. I liked that we got Cash, Hope, Emily and Bennett's points of view throughout the book.
I can't wait for the next book in the series Take Me To The Mountain to be released on audio so I can get Willow and Bennett's story.
Elizabeth and Bryant did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like contemporary romances.
A*R*C for honest review with no compensation Received from BookSprout 4 stars
Take Me to the Lake is book 3 in the Mountain Men of Whiskey River by Kaci Rose. While each book is a standalone reading in order give you more background into the Whiskey River men.
What happens when two people meet up, lock eyes and fall hard in an instant..secrets, sparks, connections, suspense and more. This is Cash and Hope’s story!
Take Me to the Lake is the 3rd book in Kaci Rose's Mountain Men of Whiskey River series. I feel like I have been waiting forever for this story. I really enjoyed the interactions between not only the main characters but all of our favorites from the past stories. The jumping to conclusions was a bit frustrating but overall a very enjoyable addition to the series. Very solid 4 stars.
The ONLY reason I lowered my rating to 3 stars was due to the editing. I have never docked a rating because of errors since very rarely is there a "perfect story" but this one was rough. I truly hope the author fixes the errors and pushes a new copy out.
In the end though, I really enjoyed this addition and have already pre-ordered the next in the series!
It’s like a train wreck or car crash that I can’t stop watching.
There was constant confusion between Jenna and Jana, not on my part, but on the author’s part.
Hope was kind of hot and cold at times. She knows that Cash is a very sheltered and unsocialized guy, but she gets upset that he can’t recognize flirting.
So Kaci Rose tried to spice up this story with an actual storyline. But the writing is still mediocre at best. The main character Hope is a bookeditor and this book was in desperate need of one but not the fictional type. The sentences just don't make sense sometimes and Jenna and Jana's names are used for the wrong character sometimes two sentences apart. This series was a bit of a guilty pleasure but i solemnly swear there will be no more mountain men on my reading list after this.
More elaborate plot than the previous books but also the worst editing. Jenna is from the last book but keeps getting interchanged with Jana, a new character...often in the same paragraph. 🤦♀️ There are 2 more books in the bundle I bought. I hope it doesn't get worse.
Take Me to the Lake is the third installment in the Mountain Men of Whisky River series. It is part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. Hope left behind her addict mother and ventured to Whisky River Montana to place some roots. She loves her simple life of living in a cabin, walking through town, and spending her days as a freelance editor. Cash is a 28-year-old mountain man recluse. He was raised unconventionally by his paranoid older brother, Harvey. He is naive, socially awkward, and so innocent that it will make your heart melt.
Cash and Hope have an instant attraction to each other. Even though Cash is nearly 30, this is almost like a coming of age story. He’s never dated, flirted, or been intimate with a girl before. His only friends are the other men living isolated on the mountain and their wives. I’m so glad that readers got to read from Cash’s POV because it really made me feel for him. He was just so sweet! My only complaint is that Hope and Cash had several miscommunication issues which caused unnecessary drama that could have easily been avoided.
The chemistry between the two main characters was fabulous and the spice was *squeal* so good! I loved that both of them were inexperienced and learning together. It was great to see some return characters from the previous books and I’m excited for Cole to get his own HEA! Overall this was a really sweet book with sprinkles of spice that will make you smile like a fool.
Tropes: Small town romance || Virgin Heroine || Virgin Hero || Instalove || Happily-Ever-After Heat: 4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
It's the worst book in the series so far. The editing was appalling with Jenna and Jana being confused, left, right, and centre. And I'm so exhausted with Emelie's POVs popping up all the time. It's just making me hate her so much at this point.
Mother of the year, NOT! Awesome book. Hope left home the minute she turned eighteen and lived in her car for a while. It was better than being with her drug addicted mother and her revolving door of boyfriends. She did online classes to become a book editor. Now she has a small cabin and uses the cafe’s free internet, which is part of the grocery store, to work. When she sees the gorgeous man looking a little lost as he shops she goes to help him. She does most of the talking but, does learn a bit about him. Cash doesn’t usually do the grocery shopping but, it’s up to him now that his brother is gone. He is glad for the help and is surprised when Hope informs him that she’s at the cafe every week day if he wants to stop in. After getting to know each other better they decide to date and have some fun times. Cash knows he’s fallen in love with her and tells Hope how he feels about her. While at his cabin he notices footprints along the tree line on his property which is concerning. He puts up cameras catch a glimpse of a man but, they can’t see his face. One day Hope goes back to her cabin while Cash has meeting. When there is a knock on the door she thinks it’s Cash. It turns out to be the last person that she wants to see, her mother. As she rattles on trying to convince Hope that she’s changed she can see her mother is high as kite and refuses to give her any money then shuts the door in her face. When Cash does return he knows something is wrong because Hope is shaking. She finally manages to get out what happened. He tells her to pack a bag and she can stay with him for a few days. A few days later she learns that her cabin was broken into and Cash takes her to get all her things and break her lease. A couple of weeks go by and there are no footprints or any sign of her mother. Cash is out checking traps when there’s a knock on the door. Hope picks up the gun Cash left for her and answers the door. On the other side stands her mother once again not sober. She informs her once again that she’s not giving her any money. Suddenly the back door crashes open and enters the boyfriend her mother said she broke up with. She raises the gun and fires but misses then it’s knocked out of her hands by her mother. As Hope feels a pinch her world goes black. Cash heard the gunshot and runs back to the cabin but, there’s no Hope. He sees the tracks of three people and follows them to the road. He calls their friends and they all come. The ladies stay at the cabin with one of the guys in case Hope finds her way back. Cash and the three others track the tire prints to an abandoned cabin. Will they be able to rescue her before the psychotic duo can hurt Hope?.

Elizabeth Elliott 5.0 out of 5 stars Another great love story by Kaci Rose Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 29, 2022 Verified Purchase Hope moved to a small town, Whiskey River, Montana. She had to get away from her mother and her mothers druggie boyfriend. She took online courses to become a book editor, where she spent most of her days at a local cafe attached to the grocery store, where she could use free Wi-Fi. Cash lived by himself in the mountains since his brother passed away. This was his first trip to the grocery store. Hope realized he need help so she went to him and helped him find what was on his list. She invited him to join her at the cafe when he came back to town. She meets Emelie and Axel, mountain friends of Cash, when they ask if she was talking to Cash. The next time he was in town Cash began to become attracted to Hope. He takes her hunting and takes her to the lake before they get to the deer, she helps process the deer he kills. Hope falls in love with the lake. Cash spends several trips to town to spend time with Hope and he asks her to spend the day at his mountain home and asks her to come the next day to go to the lake and then to come for the weekend and they would camp at the lake. Cash wants her with him permanently but is afraid to ask. They go to the fair in town, while there Hope has the feeling someone is watching her, but does not see anyone, but Cash is looking around like he felt someone watching them. When Cash is done with the chores he walks the tree line and finds footprints that walk back to the road and get in a car and leaves the area. He tells Hope that someone had been watching them. He is going to set up some hunting cameras. Hope and Cash go through a rough patch, but they work things out and Hope goes to stay with Cash for a few days. When Hope goes to the kitchen to fix breakfast she thinks she sees something out the window. She wakes Cash and he sees more tracks and they look at the monitor feed and see a man in a black sweatshirt. Cash had a meeting in town, so Hope goes along to meet with Emelie. When they are ready to leave, Cash has meeting with finance man, so Hope goes to her house to do some laundry, pack another bag and pick up her house a little. There was a knock on her door and it was her mother. There is a lot that goes on in this book that I did not cover. You need to read the book to see what all Cash and Hope have to go through to be together. Why is her mother in Montana when her home is in Georgia? Will Cash and Hope be able to finally be together without her mother and her boyfriend interfering? I really enjoyed this story and I have read this book twice. So I love this series and all the characters involved. I really loved the story. But I couldn’t give it five stars- each book has had a few typos, but this one just seemed worse. One section was just reversing two characters names a few times (and sense their names are Jenna and Jana it’s somewhat understandable). But this one has had some timeline issues- and not even within the book, but some with matching to the last book in the series (which might be more noticed because I read them back to back). The last book had Cash calling Emelie for advice after meeting Hope at the store- here, Emelie was at the store that day shortly after Cash left so that just doesn’t sit the same. In the last book, Emelie isn’t ready to have kids yet and has been there for a year, but here they announce a pregnancy and she hasn’t been through a winter on the mountain (which really, I was surprised it had been a year in the last book because I had thought there wasn’t a gap in time based on how the first book ended). Within the story, at the start, Hope had been there for 3 months, yet another point she had been there for 6- but it really didn’t seem like they had been dating for 3 months- especially since they call this her official meet with Emelie (and as mentioned above, she met Hope right after Cash did- not a long meet, but Emelie did introduce herself and her husband, plus they all go to a festival together before this gathering). I also wish it was more clear about Hope’s age because it’s a bit confusing- she left home at 18 and began living out of her car, eventually taking classes and then building up a business. Sure, she’s struggling, but that takes time. With her mom going from boyfriend to boyfriend as fast as it seems- would she really still be with the same guy in the time it took Hope to get where she is? Does that make her just 18 or maybe 19 with Cash in his late 20’s? (I have no problem with age gap- just seemed like to have built her business and the way she acts, she seems older- but her mom being with the same guy and her living out of her car until Whiskey River, that doesn’t seem like it’s been even a few years since she left home. I still love the characters and this world that has been built- it’s worth a read- but at the same time it feels like it was rushed and not edited/not properly edited- making the author come off as lazy.
This story needs to be edited again. I promise I’m not nitpicking. I really want this book to do well because I really love this series. There needs to be a copy edit and a line edit on this book. There are whole pages missing, misspelled words, words jammed together, and a bunch of other formatting issues. There is often places where the story repeated itself and I found myself being annoyed by it. Rehashing what happened to Cash’s brother over and over in the first couple of chapters was sending me into an angry spiral. Starting at Chapters 11 (and probably before, but I noticed it in Chapter 11 first) until the end of the book needs attention from the formatting, they’re being whole pages missing that causes huge gaps in information pertinent to the story, and misspelled words. If I got a physical copy of this book and paid for it, I would be PISSED at the seeming lack of editing, professional or otherwise, that should have caught these issues.
While the story held my attention, I didn’t love it from beginning to end like I loved Axel’s story or even Phoenix’s (although admittedly I was a bit disappointed by that story as well). The writing was a bit….juvenile? Lackadaisical? Those aren’t the exact words I want to use but it’s close enough. The characters are at least 28 and being a 28 year old, I expect more of a “adult” tone to the work. I felt like I was reading about much younger adults (I’m talking 18-23 year olds).
I loved Cash’s innocence but I was hoping for more during their first times, both together and in general. I can understand the author not wanting to make a big deal about it but c’mon, losing one’s virginity is special and should be treated as such. Their first time was too reminiscent of Axel and Emelie’s spicy scenes. I wish there was an element that made it different and unique outside of them going camping and Axel and Emelie being in the water to bathe. The mystery person should have been introduced earlier but I understand why the author waited and built up the relationship between Cash and Hope. The spice was also lacking compared to previous books and I attest this to having two very inexperienced people exploring each other and themselves sexually. I’d give the spice 1.5
