Phoebe Whitehouse is not just my student—she's my obsession. I eat, sleep, and breathe her. One day, she slips up and I have my in. At long last, I can own her. She's mine to punish and to pleasure. I don't care if I lose my job as a tenured professor over her. I don't care if I destroy my life or hers. I'm obsessed and she doesn't know it yet, but I'm never letting her go.
As this is a dark taboo bully romance, please take into consideration the following trigger warnings : Stalking, dub con, infant death by SIDS, death of a parental figure, alcohol abuse and child neglect.
Obsessed was previously published as The Professor but it has been heavily edited and extended.

When not writing Serena is either reading, traveling or coloring.
I tried, I really did. But this was just not working for me.
The writing wasn't flowing. The characters were one-dimensional. Their relationship and the growth of their feelings did not connect or seem right to me. The start of their whole relationship and the "blackmail" was stupid.
Even after all that, I was going to try to push through and make it to the end but enter in the ex-wife who is "insane" and a "slut" as the mmc calls her. The way he talked about the woman did NOT sit right with me. Yes, she did some bad stuff but that is why you get her HELP, you don't just leave your wife to deteriorate like that after the DEATH OF THEIR DAUGHTER. And then the slut shaming??? I was so done. I don't care if she was a goddamn sex worker, the way he talked about her was just gross.
I'm so grateful to Valentine PR and the author for sending me the physical copy of this book, unfortunately it just wasn't for me.
I also listened to the audiobook of this and it was an ✨experience✨ So good & one of my favorite audiobooks this year. ———————————————————————————— I thought this was great when it was The Professor. But this? THIS RIGHT HERE? A masterpiece I didn’t know I needed. The new scenes and reliving the ones I remembered from when I read it last year was everything.
I won’t lie, I hated Nicholas when I first met him BUT I swear to God he just crawls into your heart and just makes himself comfortable because he knows he is going to live there rent free.
I love Phoebe and how strong she is with the cards that she is dealt and learning what Nicholas goes through is truly heartbreaking.
Serena knocks it out of the park every single time & just when I thought she couldn’t make a book more perfect, she goes and proves me wrong.
Phoebe, a young woman who has had too much hardship in her short life, is just trying to graduate to find a better life for her and her brother. But her professor, with his scowling face and watchful eyes, is making her university life harder than it should be. As she works two jobs, attends school, has an incapable mother, and takes care of her brother, her life is stressful enough. This couple is so unconventional and certainly not the norm for society. They both come with a lot of baggage and struggle to find their footing. But oh my, those scenes were so sensuous and racy. Serena always makes her characters come alive with emotion and passion, creates scenarios that are well thought out and delivered spectacularly and keeps her readers sated and fulfilled. Obsessed was such a fabulous story that I could not put it down!
Obsessed was definitely way more than what I thought it would be. A forbidden relationship that springs up between a professor and his student. All the stirrings of a person who follows her every move, justifying it by telling himself he is protecting one of them but who?
A professor, Nicholas Maclean, falls for his student, Phoebe Whitehouse, arranging one job where he can watch over her while catching her in a precarious position when he sees her with her hand in the till at a second job. He makes her report to his office after class and "perform" for him on his desk in exchange for his silence. This performance occurs more than once, with him never laying a finger on her, each time easier than the time before. What happens between them slowly morphs into a totally different type of consensual encounter. No feelings are involved until nothing makes sense between them. She suddenly needs an escape for herself and her baby brother and Maclean offers them the use of his place as a refuge. Phoebe loads up their meager belongings, she and Scottie hop in a cab from the poor side of town to the affluent address. No matter how hard Maclean tries to guard his heart, the two become more important to him than he could have ever believed. Unfortunately his past interferes in more than one way but will it bring the two together or tear them apart?
This book was previously titled The Professor and has been reworked. The additions have enhanced the story and brought it forward to encapsulate so much more between Phoebe and Nicholas. A fabulous love story told so perfectly.
Audible Review: Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb make listening to Obsessed a whole body experience! Joe's gravelly growl just makes Nicholas the best voice ever and made me melt into a pile of mush. I had whole body shivers. Holy hotness overload!!! Lessa made Phoebe come alive and it felt like she was someone I wanted to have as my best friend. These two voices made this book the ultimate listening sensation. I'll be playing Obsessed on repeat for a long time to come.
Plot Summary : Phoebe is nicholas obsession. And the worst thing is that the poor girl has no idea about the type of dilemma she has landed herself into . He watches her. Lives her. Knows everything about her. He does not care that it is forbidden because she is his student. She was his. It was as simple as that. And now that she has given him the opening to make a move, no one was getting in his way.
Life has never been easy for Phoebe. Taking care of her toddler brother , and then managing school , it's a hard task. That is until life takes a worse turn. With no one to lean onto she makes a wrong move and lands herself in the path of the biggest bully she has ever met. Her professor. The one man who never saw her. The mean one who took pleasure in humiliating her now holds the key to her future and the worst thing was that she has no idea about how tough he is going to make everything for her.
Overall Opinion : This book has been republished with new scenes and damn I love them all! I had the book before too so I knew everything that was going to happen and it was the same for like 95% of the book but a few changes here and there and a few scenes being added made a good difference.
I liked reading it again and if you guys have not read this one before then do so ASAP! It's the best one yet by this author. I am a huge fan of student teacher dark romance with the male teacher as the bully and this one has that and much more. Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there.
Wow! This book was so fantastic, I couldn’t put it down! At first I wasn’t sure about Nicholas, but as the book went on, I loved him. Nicholas and Phoebe are fire together. He would do anything for her. I highly recommend this book.
Wow , this book was amazing. If you love a taboo , age gap romance then this book is for you. Nicholas is not my typical go to Hero but wow did i fall for him hard. He is Phoebe's Professor and he loves to stalk /protect her from afar. There relationship is like nothing I've read before and i loved it. This book was incredible and i loved every second. It had me hooked from the very first page and i didn't want it to end. I would definitely recommend this book. It's a must if you love a hot , possessive guy who will do anything to get what he wants.
Audio review
The audio of this book was one of the most hottest books I've ever listened to. Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb are the perfect Nicholas and Phoebe. Honestly this audiobook is delicious and you will not be disappointed , It's so HOT
This could’ve been three stars if the hero had groveled, or even slightly apologized, for calling her fat multiple times. He says it two or three times and then it’s never bright up again. That doesn’t sit right with me
Obsessed by Serena Akeroyd is the story of Phoebe and Nicholas. Phoebe is a young women struggling to survive and keep her brother safe. Phoebe mother is a awful women who can't be trusted to care for her son so Phoebe has really become his mother. Along with that she works two jobs and is going to college where her Professor is very mean to her. Nicholas has wanted Phoebe from the start but ends up being stern with her and sneaks around to watch her. Nicholas is waiting his time when he can claim her. Loved this book.
Holy Possessive, Stalker Romance! This is a such fantastic and HOT book! I loved every minute of this non traditional love story. The characters are s*xy as sin and the narrators of the audiobook did an amazing job bringing the hotness to life. I absolutely consider this a Must Read and/or Listen and highly recommend it in paperback (did you see that smexy cover?), ebook, and audiobook!
Beautifully narrated by Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb. Their voices bring another level to the story. Their emotional recounting is perfect, bringing Nicholas and Phoebe to life. The steamy scenes will make your ears blush - Yes Professor!!
Throughout we get such a feeling for the anguish, sorrow and pain they both suffered. Their eventual joy is just so heartfelt.
Fabulous recounting of a deliciously spicy, twisted, thrilling story.
Obsessed by Serena Akeroyd is a brilliant enemies to lovers, forbidden love romance that kept me in a dreamland for two days to say the least. I loved Nicholas, the aggressive, domineering, arrogant and even insulting professor who actually happens to be obsessively stalking and protecting his student from afar, for feelings even unexplainable to himself. Under his unyielding and cruel mask, he is hiding a devastating trauma that broke him a few years prior. Somehow fate brings Phoebe, a demure and innocent student, to him almost as a healing balm, and suddenly, it is as if Nicholas is given a second lease on life. If you are into reading the taboo of forbidden student-teacher relationships, and also enjoy witnessing soulmates completing each other, Obsessed is a book you will most definitely love.
Serena has done it again! This is an intense, dark, & erotic unique love story that will leave you fully satisfied. Nicholas has been stalking Phoebe since he first laid eyes on her. She is everything he wants but is too afraid to allow himself to have her. He keeps her at a distance because it is safer because of his dark and destructive past. He has mental and physical scars he is still working through but when he’s around Phoebe her aura brings him peace and a longing he’s been repressing for years. Watching his obsession and need for her is intense, erotic, and all around dirty. He has a control over her that she has never felt before and she doesn’t know what to do with her emotions. Nicholas is her professor and he has been quite harsh and a bit mean to her and her work. He has a way to make her feel less and she already has such a hard life she doesn’t need another person bringing her down. However, she soon realizes the hidden truths behind his actions and she can’t seem to stay away. She loves his possessive nature and how she is his center of gravity. She is what calms him and watching them grow with each other is bittersweet. Their love is one that you know will withstand anything the world has to throw at them and it definitely throws a lot at them.
You will devour this amazing story and you will love how it all comes together. Their connection and commitment to each other is awe inspiring and just like all of Serena’s characters you will fall in love with them fiercely and entirely. This story will leave you breathless and desiring more from their epic adventure and love story! You will want to run to read this amazing story and Nicholas and Phoebe will be added to your long list of amazing characters that will stay with you long after the last page. Happy Reading!!!
I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. I really resonated with Phoebe and I loved that. The mystery and intensity made it so hard to put down. I kept wanting to see what happened next. And all the baggage that they each carried made them perfect for each other in my opinion. She helped him a better man while he helped her push herself more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to read more from Serena soon. Thank you VPR and Serena for an ARC.
at first I really wasn’t sure about Nicholas, but the further I got into the book, the more I ended up liking him. Nick is a professor who has fallen and stalks one of his students Phoebe Whitehouse under the guise of “protecting her.” when Phoebe gets caught by Nick in a compromising position he forces her to meet him during his office hours and “preform” for him. this man seriously tested my patience and got on my nerves in the beginning, but then everything completely changed and I actually started liking him. Phoebe was dealt some crappy cards in life and watching her resilience and determination to escape her situation made me immediately root for her! this book really had me feeling all of the feels and seeing Phoebe and Nicholas’ relationship grow was great!
I went into this one completely blind and I’m glad I did. I was consumed from Nicholas’ first chapter and it was full speed ahead from there.
I felt for Phoebe with every single turn of the pages. The life she was dealt had me all in my feels, but she never ever gave up. She pushed through every hardship to find a way to be there for her brother. To give him a good life, one she didn’t have.
The obsession Nicholas has for Phoebe was EVERYTHING. Their first encounter in his office 😮💨😮💨😮💨 The way Serena brings two broken people together was captivating.
This forbidden, age gap, bully romance will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more and more.
"Phoebe Whitehouse is not just my student—she's my obsession."
I was unsure whether I would like this because the MMC was a DICK and even fat-shamed the FMC. But Serena Akeroyd made me not hate him! Probably because he is obsessed with the FMC. lol Phoebe, the FMC was amazing. She carried the whole book for me. Her life sucks. She's poor and has an alcoholic mother and a baby brother she has to take care of.
The power dynamic between The Professor and Phoebe was fascinating. I loved how it shifted. Both have trauma they have to deal with, and it was beautiful to see them rely on each other. And it did help to be in The Professor's head, to understand him better.
🗂Genre: Dark-ish Erotic Romance
🏷Tropes: - professor x student - age gap - bullying & blackmail - stalking - boy obsessed - smutty "slow-burn" - with child/ taking care of baby brother
⚠️Safety: dub-con/ non-con, fat shaming, loss of a loved one, alcoholic mother, child neglect, blackmail, power imbalance, mention of infant death by SIDS
I have loved everything I have read by Akeroyd. I always find her reads interesting and written so beautifully. While this one was just as interesting and written just as well as all the others, it wasn’t one I fell in love with. However, it was still very much a solid 4 star read.
The romance was as slow as a slowburn romance can be. And I’m ok with that as long as there are feelings and emotions behind it. But sadly, there wasn’t. It took well over half the book to learn why Nicholas was the way he was. I believe if it we had learned this a little earlier I could have put some real feelings myself into liking his character. But it took to getting to part 3 for me to finally find some sort of connection with both Phoebe and him.
I still enjoyed their story and would definitely recommend if you’re into bully romance, heavy on the bully. (I think the heavy sided bully part was what threw me off.) 4 Stars!!
Love a good stalker taboo romance! Nicholas is so OTT Jealous with his girl and I am here for it! I love that he falls in love with her baby brother and treats him like his own. I didn’t expect to fall so in love with Phoebe but I did. She was an amazing lead character with heart and strength that Serena often puts into her main characters. I love how much she cares for her baby brother and I love how resilient she is against all odds. Nicholas and Phoebes story is a raw rollercoaster that I couldn’t get enough of.
Great book about a professor and his quest. Nicolas allowed Phoebe to live in his mind and soul, and was obsessed with her safety. Until one day he saw something he should not have seen. And it was time to make someone pay.
Phoebe was trying to juggle the lives of like four people - college, two jobs, a toddler brother, and an alcoholic mother. And when her life got thrown a wrench, she tried to make the best of it. Was it the right thing to do? Probably not. It spiraled her life in a new direction. One she was not expecting. But what was she going to do - embrace or reject it?
This book reminded me of another book I'd read before (older sister, younger sibling), but after a few chapters, I couldn't think of what book it was, and after a few more chapters, it didn't matter! This book topped so many other books of this style and genre. Enjoyed it all.
This book is my absolute favorite romance book ever! I love everything about it! I laughed and cried and felt everything in-between with both Phoebe and Nicholas! They start out as enemies but throughout the book their relationship evolves into something breathtakingly beautiful. It's a bully book so please be aware of that if it's triggering for you! I'm not a big fan of bully books but this story is just written so well and told in such an amazing way that I just had to fall in love with it! The book reminds me of the phantom of the opera in a lot of ways and maybe that's the reason why I love it so much! And let me tell you about the narration! Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb are just amazing together. Joe's voice gave some pretty good shivers throughout some of the steamy scenes!
obsessed is a wicked story where monsters go undetected and add to that a Taboo age gap and a obsessed Professor who is stalking one of his students unbeknownst to her and add some very hot steamy scenes and you have one amazing story
Nicholas Maclean is an English professor at an Ivy League college he has had a privilege life but he has his demons from his past and they have changed him from the man he was in to the monster he now sees himself as. The Professor sees phoebe on campus one day and becomes obsess with her he sits in dark corners of where she works and watches her and he tells himself he is doing this to keep her safe
Phoebe WhiteHouse is in her last year of college and only has three months left until she’s finished getting her diploma Phoebe has had a hard life and struggles to make ends meet as she is taking care of her baby brother because her mother is an irresponsible mother and is an alcoholic and can’t care for her baby brother. Phoebe was in and out of care when she was younger and she doesn’t want this for her baby Brother so she does everything she can to make sure she keeps him safe
When one day everything changes for Phoebe she’s desperate and does something so out of character for her.But sitting in his dark corner watching is the professor and he now has her where he wants her because he uses what he seem to threaten her to get her to do what he wants. He belittles her in his classes and phoebe feels like he hates her especially when she has to go to his office after her lesson because of what he’s witnessed her doing in the Caffe he now is holding it over her head with threatening to go to the Dean and getting thrown out of College when she only has three months left to go phoebe begs him not to and he steps it to the next level and turns his obsession with phoebe sexual.
I love the characters in obsessed how is the story involves you see the characters changing the professor realises how unfair he’s been to Phoebe and we see Phoebe starting to grow and become more confident and some monsters can be heroes.
Audio Obsessed is narrated by Joe Arden and Lessa lamb listening to their voices adds another level to the story by bringing The characters to life you feel the emotions that the characters are going through and the pain and sorrow they have both suffered. but in the end when love wins you hear the happiness and joy in their voices and I just love listening to Joe Arden‘s voice as the professor
This might be the sweetest book Serena has written. This book has left me wanting more and I’m so glad I was willing to give it a go after reading all the trigger warnings. Infant loss is a solid no almost alway for me but I knew Serena wouldn’t make me suffer, so if like me and infant loss is a deal breaker on a book, this said loss is referenced too and not actively happening in the book. Huge difference for me. We follow Nicholas and Phoebe through the story where Phoebe is his student in university but she’s also raising her littler brother, living in poverty, and is a shell of a person. Nicholas is the opposite; divorced, wealthy, but is also broken. Nicholas is definitely overbearing and cold at times but he would do anything for Phoebe. No third act break up makes this book even better. Don’t get me wrong, this book is dark at times, full of sex and taboo in the sense that Nicholas is in the position of power, but still very sweet in comparison to the other series Serena has.
Gotta love a good stalker romance, mixed with a teacher/student trope! Nicholas is a jerky stalker, too. So rude to her. When you find out more about him, it does make you care more, and he eventually turns things around. I like when a good woman can make the character want to be a better man. And Phoebe, man that girl is really goin through it. She works all the time, takes care of her bro and awful mom, and just STRUGGLES. But she really likes what her grumpy professor is all about.
My one issue with this story is the comments about her size. First he makes comments that she obviously isn't starving, then she also has many thoughts about her fatness throughout the first half of the book, and her defense is she can't afford healthier foods. It bummed me out. I know later in his pov he talks about actually loving her size, but still.
Obsessed features, but is not limited to, the following themes: ○ Dark romance ○ Enemies to lovers ○ Teacher/Student ○ College ○ Stalking ○ Blackmail
My overall rating for Obsessed is...
4.5 Stars!
This toxic, twisted and taboo dark romance was everything you'd want in such a book. The student teacher romance was thrilling with its fast, yet slow burn romance. I mean, there was a lot of Os with absolutely no touching, and wasn't that just the icing on the cake of sexual tension? I also really loved the side story belonging to Phoebe, the addition of a baby little brother to care for was an interesting and beautiful touch. I did find the last 15% of the book to slow down a bit and kind if lost its flavour. Overall, a dark and dangerous yet uplifting tale.
Poor Phoebe doesn’t stand a chance when Nicholas gets her in his sights. I say ‘poor Phoebe’ but I honestly think it’s the exact opposite. He is your true anti-hero. He goes about things in the wrong way, he’s controlling, obsessive, broken but oh so perfect for our broken heroin who just needs someone to believe in her and show her what she is worth. She doesn’t realise it to start with, but Nicholas is exactly what she needs. Someone devoted to her, who will do absolutely anything to ensure her safety (even if that ‘anything’ isn’t exactly pc or if it is frowned upon). He knows he is broken and embraces it, but also has a heart and wants her to know her worth. The spice is off the charts and the couple is so broken, but together they are fixed.
This book is an age gap, professor-student relationship. I found it good. It was interesting and hot.
Phoebe is a hard working college student. She juggles 2 jobs, school, and raising her baby brother. She grew up with a mother who was more worried about where she could get her next fox than she was in raising her children. Phoebe had one reliable parent figure in her life, her next door neighbor. Phoebe had come on extra hard times when she becomes desperate and steals money from one of her jobs. Nicholas catches her and black nails her into doing what he wants. Keep in mind Nicholas has been stalking her and protecting her. She has no idea that he is obsessed with her. She just thinks he hates her until the office….. This book was hot and I loved every minute of it.
Phoebe is going through some shit in most of this book. Her mom is an alcoholic piece of shit who gets pregnant when Phoebe is close to being of age to leave. When her little brother is born she works two jobs and goes to college to make a better life for herself and her baby brother, Scottie. During her time at college she has a professor that is a complete douche.
Nicholas has been through tragedy and it has made him cold and isolated. His only purpose was to teach. While teaching he encounters Phoebe, who he becomes obsessed with. He stalks her and try’s to learn everything he can about her. He catches Phoebe doing something out of desperation and uses it as blackmail…
I highly recommend this book! I loved the stalker/forbidden aspect. I also really enjoyed the character growth that both the female and male main characters go through.
