Beneath the Fallen Stars (Never Too Far Book 1) Kindle Edition
I’ve never had anyone look at me the way he looks at me, like I could be his whole world.
Ford is different from other guys. For starters, he doesn’t know about my troubled past—the one this small town won’t let me forget, no matter how hard I try. Being with him, I can be myself. Without judgment. Without pretending. He’s unlocked a part of me I wasn’t sure still existed.
Just as quickly as we find each other, it’s time to say goodbye. Ford might feel a world away, but reading his letters and sharing starry nights with him keeps us close until I can be back in his arms.
Ford
From the first moment I laid eyes on her, I knew I needed more time.
While on leave with my best friend from the Army, I finally meet his cousin, Shayne. She’s unexpected—in the best of ways. I quickly realize she could be exactly who I need her to be—my everything.
As long as my life belongs to the military, I can only offer her promises and distance. Maybe getting in involved while enlisted is a mistake, but I’m not ready to let her go. From afar, we find something neither of us was looking for, and it’s all possible beneath the fallen stars.

- Reviewed in Australia on 26 August 2024Verified PurchaseI felt so connected to this book. I myself had a partner who was in the service. All the emotions of saying good bye and counting down the days. Still remember them vividly. 36 years married and 5 kids. Thank you. Great book.
- Reviewed in Australia on 5 January 2023Verified PurchaseBeneath the Fallen Stars was a very good book. I really enjoyed the plot, i loved the two main characters and enjoyed meeting majority of the secondary characters! Shayne was such a great heroine and i really admired her strength and determination even after being put through some hard things she still found love and joy in places and with things that made her happy and she went after them. The way she loved Ford was such a great thing to witness as was the way she loved her family and those around her. Ford was a great hero his love for Shayne was as plain as day as was the type of man he was honourable, loyal and just so loving. He was such a great man and so patient about everything and no matter what he saw the best in Shayne and treated her with such respect. Their chemistry was off the charts and made for a great read. I loved Chad, Jett, Cassie and Faith as well as the two parental figures for both Shayne and Ford they rocked! I would have loved go see some more in depth emotion and exploration of some thing but it didn’t detract from the book itself. The ending was such a great one and this was a great read. I recommend people pick it up and give it a go!
- Reviewed in Australia on 25 August 2024This is a brilliant writing collaboration bringing us the Never Too Far series, set in the Ohio/Kentucky area. It features friends in the army and family dynamics, as well as dealing with relationships at a distance. It's swoony romance at its best.
Soldiers and friends, Ford and Chad are taking two weeks leave, before their second year of service in the army. Chad invites Ford to his home town in Kentucky for week one, after which, they plan a week in Ford's Ohio town, before they are due back on base.
Going to the local bar, Chad tells Ford they will get to meet his cousin Shayne. But Ford doesn't expect Shayne to be a beautiful woman!
That week in Kentucky goes fast, yet Ford gets to spend every moment with Shayne, despite her self-doubt. By the time Ford has to travel home to Ohio, Shayne is on board with going there too.
Shayne has had a hard life, growing up with a neglectful mother. Her job at Jet's bar helps pay her bills, and Jet is good to her, but some in the town don't want to let her forget her most humiliating moment.
Ford is such a wonderful man, she is letting her walls down for him.
Impending separation when Ford goes back to base for another year, and the threat of unknown deployment, makes for a lot of angst, but Ford reminds her to look to the stars. He'll be doing the same and it will unite them, while apart.
Book #2 will feature Chad's story and what happened with Ford's twin sister, Faith.

- Reviewed in Australia on 14 October 2021Verified PurchaseHeartwarming sweet love at first sight love story. If you like well written cheesy romances then you should definitely read this one. I do wonder if the authors would be writing Chad and Faith's story next I would like to know what happens with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Chances
Verified PurchaseShayne and Ford’s story is so moving and really is a case of love at first sight. Ford has to prove to Shayne she can trust him because her mother has let her down so many times in her life. Shayne feels her mother and her own mistakes define her and doesn’t realize where she is in her life doesn’t have to be the final destination. The two authors weave such a beautiful story that makes you believe in second chances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Falling in Love Beneath the Fallen Stars
Verified PurchaseI absolutely LOVED Beneath the Fallen Stars, first book in the Never Too Far series co-written by Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black! I loved every moment on every page of Beneath the Fallen Stars, and it was impossible to put it down. I have not read many books that are co-written by two authors, and I am sometimes concerned about the flow of the story, but all I can say is that Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black did an incredible job in writing Beneath the Fallen Stars. They did not disappoint their readers with Beneath the Fallen Stars and have delivered an incredible love story filled with everything that I love in a love story. I love that they write the stories that I love to read. Who does not love hot sexy men, who make you swoon, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another, and wonderful characters? Beneath the Fallen Stars is a love story between Ford Gregory, soldier in the U.S. Army and his best friend, Chad Anthony’s cousin, Shayne Danner, bartender at Jet’s Pub and Pool Hall. Ford and Chad have a two week leave from the Army. Ford’s parents are not home, so he decides to head home to Kentucky with Chad to meet his family. They will then spend the second week visiting Ford’s family in Ohio. Chad has always talked about his cousin, Shayne, Ford always assumed that Shayne was a guy. He was surprised to discover that Shayne was the beautiful bartender serving them drinks. Shayne grew up in a broken home with a mother who was an addict and alcoholic and spent a lot of time at the Anthony’s home growing up. Ford is immediately attracted to Shayne, and they end up spending time together when Ford is in Kentucky. As Ford and Shayne spend time together things heat up between them. I love the chemistry between Shayne and Ford and their love story. I love the secrets that each one shares with one another, especially the ones that Shayne shared about her childhood. Ford wants a future with Shayne and encourages her to enroll in cosmetology classes. Ford is not planning on re-enlisting in the Army, so he will be discharged in a year. A surprise plot twist brings them closer, especially with the letter they wrote together. It also helps Shayne decide to enroll in cosmetology classes in Ohio instead of Kentucky so that she can be closer to Ford. Shayne will room with Ford’s twin sister, Faith, who will be a college senior. I love the letters that they write to one another while they are apart and how they feel closer to one another when they are beneath the stars. I love all the changes that Shayne and Ford make in their life to have a life with each other, outside of college and the army. My favorite part is that the epilogue is told from both Ford and Shayne’s perspective and goes beyond the happily ever after. I love Ford’s graduation gift to Shayne and his proposal beneath the stars. I love the ending of their love story. I love how Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black managed to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. One of my favorite parts of her books is how the title of the book is incorporated into the love story. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black have given their readers an incredible book with incredible characters and have proven that they are amazing storytellers. I really enjoy how she writes her stories in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love knowing what the main characters are thinking and feeling. Beneath the Fallen Stars is filled with all those things that I have come to love and expect in a love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black create such wonderful and memorable characters with Beneath the Fallen Stars. I love Shayne and Ford’s story and the descriptions of the Kentucky and Ohio settings. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Beneath the Fallen Stars, the characters feel like family and friends. Beneath the Fallen Stars was a wonderful love story. I highly recommend this love story. Cannot wait to read the other books in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wishing Upon Falling Stars Is So Worth It
Verified PurchaseKaylee and Lacey are powerhouse authors especially when writing together.
Loved the story and loved the characters even more. Ford and Shayne - the main characters are a powerfully strong couple when together. They prove how strong each one is when apart and when together.
The secondary characters of Chad, Faith, Cassie and the parents and relatives make this book worth reading.
It's a page turner kind of book with lots of swoony moments, some angst, some fun and laughter too.
Way to go Lacey and Kaylee - two of my fave authors. Don't miss any of your stories
