Whistle : A Male/Male Westbrook Elite Standalone Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 505 ratings

Ever since my twin sister was murdered and I blamed my best friend,
my life has been nothing but an epic downward spiral.
Once a swimmer for the most prestigious West Coast college,
I never in a million years thought I’d end up here.
Abandoned. Locked up. Alone.
In a moment of weakness, I call the guy who was more of a brother to me than anything,
the guy I betrayed.
Shockingly, he flies cross country to bail me out. But he isn’t alone.
In tow is his new swim coach—a whistle-blowing tyrant who makes me crave pushing every button he’s ever had and tossing his list of rules into the bottom of his coveted pool.
But I can’t because now he’s my coach too.
It’s Coach Resch and the team who hates me or a four-by-four cell.
So off to Westbrook I go to serve my sentence like the good boy I’ll never be.
Coach thinks he can handle me, but he’s never met my particular brand of wild.

Please note this book contains discussions of suicide (off page), death, and murder of a sibling, present danger, and water trauma. This an age-gap romance. The ages of the main characters are twenty-one and forty.

Cambria Hebert is a bestselling novelist of more than fifty titles. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a pumpkin spice latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching K drama until her eyes won’t stay open. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chihuahuas (the real bosses of the house).

Whistle : A Male/Male Westbrook Elite Standalone Book 8 by Cambria Hebert ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 This was the perfect ending for the Elite series, I won’t lie after reading Wet I was a bit skeptical regarding coach. I’m so happy Cambria changed my mind through the series. It was an amazing experience to see the layers to Emmett (Coach), and how Bodhi became one within self again. This was a truly wonderful story to read, and the most perfect ending to this series. I love how Cambria describes both of Emmett’s and Bodhi’s journey to forgiveness, and healing as honest, respectful and pure. Reading about grief is always hard, at least for me. But in the Whistle Cambria manages to not just write about someone's grieving but also how important it is to process everything at someone's own pace. Wow Daddy Coach, where have you been all my life! I JUST NEED TO SAY THIS COACH EMMETT IS HOT!!!! It was nice seeing the Elite team have the coaches back, and also trying to form a bond with Bodhi. How they understand why Bodhi reacted the way he did towards Rush. This was truly a wonderful journey to follow. P.S. The Elite group chat !!! I can read a whole book about their conversations, just saying. 🌊 Age Gap 🔈 Daddy 🌊 Forbidden 🔈 Coach X Swimmer 🌊 Hurt/Comfort 🔈 Brat 🌊 Angst 🔈 Emotional Trauma 🌊 Friendships

Whistle is the final installment in the Westbrook Elite series.  This is book 8 in the series that had me on pins and needles waiting for the next book for 2 years straight!  Side note: While each couple has their own book and can be read separately, the plotlines build on each other and create more depth in each book as you go through the series - since this is the last book, you might not want to start here.

This story follows Emmett, our favorite whistle-blowing head coach and Bodhi, Rush's former best friend and apparently Elite's newest swimmer. Whistle is an emotional and slightly angsty story which does result in at least a few trauma lattes. The ever present loyalty of the swim team is alive and well, even with their coach being the main focus.

The dynamic here is most definitely how I hoped this story would flow - it's almost like Hebert was reading my mind.  But then again, she built Emmett's character, I guess she is just that skilled as a wordsmith.

The storyline is well thought out, and not cringy like some age gap novels can be. I loved this "ending" to the series, though I would love to see more about this awesome group of characters.

I can't wait to see where Hebert takes us next....

This is the first book from this author that I’ve read. The story was good, but the chapters with the elite group chats did nothing but add length to the book. Also, if you haven’t read the previous series, it’s hard to keep track of so many side characters. I would recommend this book to others.

Emmett and Bodhi were amazing together, these two have definitely become one of my favorite couples in this series. Their relationship was everything I was hoping for and more especially the dash of daddy kink. I also loved how this book touched on tough topics with grace and I couldn’t get enough of the chemistry these two had. Coach has had me hooked since the first book and i’m so happy to finally be able to read his story and to see him get such a wonderful HEA.

I can’t believe this is the last book in the series.🥹 I loved every second of it. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made swoon. My husband would look at me and asked me what was wrong with me. I just said, you wouldn’t understand, 😫 and keep reading. 🤣 He tells me I’m nuts. This whole series has been such an amazing ride. Getting to know all these wonderful characters, I feel like they’re family, and I’m going to miss them all so much. I can’t wait to for what you come up with next!!!! So Mrs. Hebert, take a brain break, but not too long. We need you. I NEED YOU!!!!

I'm so glad Coach Emmett finally got his story, and Bodhi was the perfect partner for him.
I absolutely LOVED the two of them together, the Daddy/ Goldilocks/lingerie scenes were just the right amount of spice. And the age gap made it so much better.
Cambria knows how to write the found family trope better than any other author l've read. The Westbrook Elite swim team is so close knit, and I love how they bond over "trauma lattes", group texting, and how no matter what, they're always there for each other.
Whistle is the last book in the Westbrook series, and I can't wait to see what Cambria comes up with next.

I think the thing that truly captured my heart with this book was the sheer hurt/comfort vibes and the way that these two healed each other. There was a lot of struggle and pain and guilt, but when these two were together... it just soothed those jagged edges. I genuinely enjoyed that aspect as well as the found family in this book. The way everyone rallies for each other is just the most heartwarming. This book is definitely worth a read!

I finished Whistle 2 days ago and I am still in a reading slump. Whistle broke my heart in every possible way it could. The entire Elite Series from Ryan & Rory to Jamie & Madison to Wes & Max (My First M/M EVER) to Win & Lars to Landry & Rush to Kruger & Jess to Arsen & Prism and finally we have Coach and Goldilocks. YES, I had to mention THEM ALL! Why you ask? Because I LOVE THEM ALL! This series has my heart and soul! Each story gave me a reading slump, but Whistle had ME in tears on multiple occasions. I just wanted to hug Bodhi so bad. I mean sometimes I just wanted to slap him too. Lol. But really, I wanted to hug him. Poor soul he was. Coach (I refuse to call him Emmett) was exactly what he needed. I loved how Coach stood up for him no matter what. Coach's inner dialogue cracked me up!! Especially when it came to Rush and Jamie. Lol. Oh my. Do I recommend Whistle? YES YES YES!! Spicy? Yes!! Angst? Yes! Love? Yes! Tenderness? Yes! Comedy? Yes! It definitely checks All the boxes!!

Cambria has a style all her own and she will forever be one of my favorite authors. She writes with such heart. Each word written with love and probably her own tears. Thank you for these words. The Elite Series will be a Series that I will read over and over and over until I know every word by heart. Now I am tears again. And that's okay. My favorite characters are happy.

“Do not underestimate my willingness to protect what’s mine.”

While I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to let go of this group, this final book felt like the perfect goodbye. During the last 7 books, I’ve always found myself curious about Coach Emmett Resch and what secrets he has been keeping.

“He’s too young for you. Damaged. Nothing but pure trouble. That only makes me want him more.”

In the beginning of this book, we see how Coach strikes a deal to keep Bodhi out of jail and that means that Bodhi must join the swim team. We are given a little back story to the trauma that haunts him but there is so much left to uncover. He needed someone support him but also strong him to deal with his brat tendencies. I loved the vulnerable moments we are given and watching their relationship strengthen.

I will say that their journey definitely wasn’t easy but it just made their ending that much more satisfying. Watching Coach deal with the elite team and their shenanigans was hilarious especially with the protective boyfriends of his swimmers (Arsen, Max and Winn- looking at you).

“Get in the car, Goldilocks, I do not take kindly to others seeing what’s mine.”

Each book was so different while we watch the Elite swimmers find their HEA’s and the connections that are made with this group. They have all been through so much but they can always count on each other to have each others back, be extremely nosey and to bring those infamous trauma lattes.

“Elite morale is where it needs to be—with our team, which includes Coach Resch. We’re loyal to him because he’s been loyal to us.”

Yes I’ve kept this review as vague as possible because this is series is something you need to experience for yourself. The one thing I will say was that I ugly cried multiple times towards the end of the book and there is one scene that demonstrates the love that this team has for their coach that will forever live rent free in my head. I will miss this group so so much.
