I am a man destined to be in love.

I’ve got a whole lot of it to give and yet, no one to give it to.

That is, until I set eyes on a green-eyed beauty, sipping a beer in a bar named Dick’s.

Her entire being says don’t come near me with her wild sexy hair, her dirt splattered riding gear and her invisible middle finger.

But as I said, I am a man destined to be in love.

And I just set my sights on her.

Chet was lovable from the start, while Hazel was a tad more difficult to get to know. Of course, she had very good reasons for that big wall she’d built, and it didn’t stop me from adoring her. She just made both Chet and me work to get there. She oh-so-wonderfully shut Chet down time and again, yet when she was ready, he was still there waiting.

These two had such a realistic feeling relationship that even their fights felt like something that anyone could experience. And the fact that this author didn’t feel the need to go the “standard” route with Hazel or Chet and their issues only made this book more enjoyable. After all, we don’t always want the utterly fantastical, predictable romance in books or life. Sometimes, we want to feel a real connection to the characters. And while Chet and Hazel had occupations outside of the norm, they definitely still had the same fears and hopes and loves that most of us do. Now I just wait to see where we go next, because there are a few possibilities on the horizon!

I absolutely love J.S. Wood's writing. She never disappoints and always delivers an outstanding story.

Chet is a NASCAR driver and is fairly well known. His half-brother is engaged to his manager and Chet wants what they have. He is tired of the woman who wants him for either his money or fame. He decides to try a dating app and well let's say they are a total bust. He ends up at a bar and sees a beautiful woman but she wants nothing to do with him. She basically tells him where to go. Chet doesn't give up and keeps going daily to see her again.

Hazel is a motocross rider and is extremely talented. She is sitting the bar trying to relax when this guy comes over and starts to flirt with her and badly at it. She doesn't want a relationship as she is focused on her career and she suffered a lot from her last relationship. Will she finally give in to Chet and his good boy ways?

The banter between Chet & Hazel is absolutely hilarious. She puts him in his place. He keeps going and never gives up. Their chemistry is off the charts throughout the whole book.

J.S has a way of writing that keeps you reading and not wanting to book the book down. She writes a fantastic enemies to lovers story that has you cheering for Chet, as he seems to be the underdog.

I look forward to reading her next book. J.S. Wood is an author that should be on everyone's author list.

Chet Michaels is a Nascar driver and does really well but he's lonely and he's ready to have that special person in his life forever. So he goes on a dating site and sets up some dates that don't go well and after #6 he stops. His manager/future sister in law Cam, sends him to an address which is a bar called Dick's to meet a blind date. She's a no show but he sees a woman, he's smitten and she tells him to get lost. Well needless to say that only makes him try harder and he shows up at Dick's every night trying to see her, Hazel.
"You know that tingly feeling you get when you like someone? That's common sense leaving your body."
Hazel Beauford is a motocross racer, teacher and kind of a loner. She suffered a bad crash a couple years back but is getting back to where she was. Chet keeps showing up at Dick's with corny lines and she keeps pushing him away. But his sights are set, and it's on her!
"In my defense I was left unsupervised"
They start to hang out when they can but time is limited due to their racing schedules. Can they make it work and does Hazel feel for Chet as he does her?

I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. This book is full of laugh out loud parts but there's also some tears. Great book!

EXCERPT:
“It is most definitely not. Are you here for lessons?”

I scoff, holding up the aforementioned hand. “First of all, I don’t need lessons. I’m a professional race car driver.” Roll my eyes. How absurd. “Second of all, do you give lessons? Can I take one from you? Do you do this with or without clothes? Can it be private or is it a group thing? I think I prefer private, but I guess I wouldn’t be opposed to groups?” I pretend to think it over. “No, never mind. I don’t like to share.”

She eyes me. “Did your mom drop you on your head when you were young?”

I shrug. “Probably, but she made up for it in later years.”

I simply love the rush of adrenalin within the race sport. Hazel and Chet's story was delivering it in nice portions.

Chet has been racing since his high school days, always focused, always without second thought but lately, lately there has been something missing. He has felt lonely, he has just wanted to have someone to share everything with.
When he met Hazel, from the beginning he has known, she's the one he has been looking for.

Hazel has never wanted to date or have a serious relationship.
The center of her whole being was motocross.

Quote: "Motocross was my passion. I bled oil and gas fumes, the smell of mud was nostalgic for me."

Until she met Chet who, with his bad pick up lines and heart of gold, has seemed to slowly destroy the safety wall she has built around her heart.

Their busy schedules and fast lives make it almost impossible to have their chance on love, but they're like match made in heaven. The second half to the whole. The jing to the jang.
But would they last with all they have going on?
Read their story and feel the rush, you won't be disappointed.

To be able to race cars and bikes the way Chet and Hazel do, they have to have hearts full of drive. Seems like they are thrill seekers as well. I loved Chet's corny sense of humor and the way he kept at Hazel until he drove her defenses right out the door. She couldn't resist him no matter how hard she tried. His trying relationship with his brother, Wyatt, was touching as well, as he continued to seek his approval and acceptance. Get your tissues ready because I know I cried like a baby (no pun intended) during the touching moments of loss and almost loss. Their journey to HEA had its ups and downs but I think it was worth all of the struggles. There's quite a bit of colorful language that I didn't care for and really found unnecessary and took away from the solid writing.

I recieved a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

“Kickstart” by J.S. Wood was such a delight to read! Chet and Hazel’s story was a slow burning one but grabbed me and pulled me in right from the get-go. Chet Michaels, once the bad-boy of the NASCAR racing world is now a bad-ass who’s burning it up on the track- kicking ass & taking names. Hazel Beauford is one tough nut to crack but she’s strong, sassy and one hell of motorcross rider. How these two meet and get to know each other is comical and a little frustrating all rolled in one, but I loved every minute of it. The author takes you along on their journey and there’s no shortage of thrills, chills and emotional roller coaster moments, leaving this reader with a bit of a book hangover. Now that’s the sign of a great writer! Highly recommend this book and the one before by J.S. Wood - “Shift”. ~ Angie❤️

Chet has his eyes set on a serious relationship and settling down. After getting swiftly rejected by Hazel, he dubs her as “the one”. And so begins his mission to wear Hazel down and worm his way into her heart. Hazel focused on building her career in motocross racing back up has no time for relationship and babies (no matter how much her mum nags her) but Chet does have a way of getting under her skin…

Overall, it wasn’t a bad. The pacing was a bit slow at times making the book skimmable. Though it got better towards the latter half when things got more serious. Characters were likeable enough, Chet does come with a lot of cheese.

Chet is a Nascar driver and he’s looking for that right someone. When his soon to be sister in law sends him to a bar called Dick’s to meet a blind date, she’s a no show. Then he spots a woman and he’s infatuated with her. Hazel, is a motocross racer, and when Chet comes on to her she rejects him. That doesn’t stop Chet from showing up at Dick’s and trying again and again, but she keeps pushing him away. This is the start of their journey and it’s one filled with laughter and tears. A great read and one I highly recommend adding to your TBR!

This was a 4.5⭐️ read
I have loved Chet since we met him in Shift... so glad he was given his own story.
Chet and Hazel were perfect together... even if Hazel wasn’t to happy to admit it.
I loved the unrequited love flip... with Chet knowing exactly what he wanted and Hazel being the one who was skeptical.
These two were so relatable... I loved it.
Great read.

Pedal to the metal the WHOLE way!!

This book is absolutely phenomenal!! I knew from the moment we saw Chet in book 1, Shift, he was going to steal the show or demand his own, and I am so very glad he was given the chance to shine. I can just see him know, twirling across the stage with Hazel in the wings!

This book is about Chet Michael's, a NASCAR driver, and Hazel Beauford, a motocross racer, and there magnetic attraction. Even though it starts out one sided lol

This book is full of laughs and light hearted moments, as well as all of the struggles we seen to ensure in our every day lives. Chet and Hazel are so real, and so relatable. I could read about them for ages!!

Kickstart my heart. I knew Chets story was going to be good. This story has it all with the lovable characters of Chet and Hazel.
Set in the driven world I laughed more times than I could count. Swooned and fell in love with the characters as they fell for each other! A great read that I am volunteering to leave a review.

He was supposed to meet his blind date at the bar.

He met Hazel instead of Sarah. Hazel wasn’t looking for a date or anything, but he saw his future. Now, he just needs to convince her.

Fun read and I loved that Chet had to really fight for Hazel's attention and love. She definitely did not want any antics from him. Both of their careers - NASCAR for him and motocross for her - felt real and not overly done/made up.
