- Reviewed in Australia on 31 July 2019The story is an intense dark tale with some incredible characters. Snowy is an interesting woman. She is willing to overlook her fiancée’s disloyalty because of family. For her and her brothers, the family name means everything. Even if it means selling their souls. I feel as though Snowy is incredibly hard on herself. She believes that she betrayed the love of her life and her family reaping what they sowed. Enter Blake Lorenz. The one man who could help Snowy and her family. But he won’t do it without a price. I feel like that price is too high. It’s bad enough that Snowy had a difficult childhood but now Blake is doing his best to break her. And when you realise why, it throws you for a spin.
While Blake does maintain this cold and indifferent persona, there are hints to some humanity existing within him. There are surprises and revelations that keep you gripped to the edge of your seat. Some I suspected and others I did not. I felt sadness and heartache and felt Snowy’s very despair as my own. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and devoured it almost immediately. I can’t wait to get stuck into book 2 to see what becomes of Snowy and Blake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sacred truths and tainted lies
Verified PurchaseThis is utterly dark and twisted ride, full of intrigue, pain, and one family's history that is so full of lies and deceit it spills over into every members' lives. It will leave you gasping for answers and gripping the book in as Snowy relives her past ridicule and present shame. . . and all of it she does for the loyalty of her family name as she sells herself to her enemy. This book is charged with drama and suspense and laced with sexual tension that hints at violence. You can feel it like a knife's edge in the scenes between Snow and Blake, the animosity he has but can't find the chemistry he has with her. Ms. Sky has done it again. This book is powerful how well it is written; how complex these characters are and how much I feel for them (I ached for Snow in some parts). It's a must read

5.0 out of 5 stars A Complex Tale of Love, Lies & Revenge
Verified PurchaseBefore I begin, I want to make sure this point gets across: this book is intended for readers age 18 and over. It contains subject matter that can be intense and triggering for some, and should not be read if you are triggered by graphic sex scenes, extreme psychological abuse, eating disorders and child sexual abuse. Please take into account all of this before considering purchasing this book.

King’s Men is not for the faint of heart. It is intensely dark, raw and gritty. It is twisted in ways I couldn’t comprehend; it seeps into your soul and leaves a mark upon your bones. It is a story unlike no other I have read.
I have read my fair share of dark romance. I live by a philosophy of “the darker, the better” and yet I haven’t come across something quite like this. I like pushing my boundaries and testing the limit of what I can tolerate in a story such as King’s Men. You only have to read the blurb to know that it’s a difficult read and yet, I was enthralled. As soon as it was downloaded onto my Kindle, I devoured it. I tore through it with greedy eyes, desperate to see Snowy Hollings, our meek, far-from-innocent heroine, deal with her voluntary imprisonment by the domineering, hate-filled Blake Lorenz.
Just as the blurb explains, this story stems from a lie.
Ten years ago, a young Snowy told a lie so dreadful it killed the love of her life. Now, on a night of celebration, her lie comes back to haunt her, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Overnight, her world collapses around her, leaving with nothing but her name.
After all, you reap what you sow.
With desperation the only thing she can feel, Snowy does the unthinkable and strikes a deal with the devil.
Blake is her saviour, her salvation, her destruction, her downfall.
And he’s been telling the biggest lie of all.
Blake commands every page, making you loathe his every word, every action, his very presence. Just like Snowy does in that empty mansion, I felt him in every shadow. Sky’s description of him was so vivid, it was like his essence seeped off the pages into the real world, taking hold of the air around me.
It was like I was Snowy. I felt every ounce of pain he inflicted on her, both psychological and physical. He repulsed me to the point where I almost put down the book to never pick it up again. But just like Snowy, I soldiered on.
This book is a true testament to Lana Sky’s writing prowess. She has an uncanny ability to churn out dark, painfully raw stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. She breaks open her characters and bares their souls for the world to see. She spins tales so heartbreaking and deplorable, yet so riveting that you can’t help but come back for more.
Blake and Snowy’s story is compelling from start to finish. I became fully invested quite quickly and I am very glad to have read this story. I highly recommend King’s Men to those who love a book full of grit with a harrowing story and an incredibly complex villain, if you can call him that.

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book!
Verified PurchaseThis is such a good book!
Its emotionally raw and over the top passion and forgotten love.
Snowy and Blake/Brandt were so close 10 years ago but then something traumatic and horrible happened. Snowy finds herself committed to a man who she does not love but must go through because she is a Hollings. With a drastic and unbelievable turn of events her life is thrown upside down and she is left scrambling for footing in her new world. Secrets are revealed, hearts are broken, and lives are devastated. But she is a Hollings and that's worth something.
I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two very broken people
Verified PurchaseI loved this book. But don't think they're kidding when people say it's dark. It is almost on the abusive side of dark, yet it is at least semi consensual. And oh the sadness and heartbreak that is pervasive throughout the story. These are two broken people who I hope are going to end up perfect for each other. I am already reading the next book, with fingers crossed for them both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting...couldn't put it down
Verified PurchaseThis book was a dark-ish story of a rich family in crisis, and one woman who pledged to do anything to save it. Snowy has so many secrets, and it's clear that Blake does too. Blake reminds her of someone she uses to know, but is her mind playing tricks on her? The story revs along like a well oiled Cadillac, braking only towards the end when you hold your breath and wait for the crash. And it's a huge one...seemingly just waiting for the right time to reveal itself. I couldn't put this book down. I didn't even stop to eat. Going directly to book 2.
