Villains & Vodka: A Dark Billionaire Romance (Spiked Roses Billionaire's Club Book 2) Kindle Edition
My life is one long fevered dream, balancing between being killed or killing.
The name Harley Crow is one to be feared.
I am an assassin.
A killer.
The villain.
I own it. I choose this life. Hell, I crave it. I hunger for it. The smell of fear makes me hard and is the very reason the blood runs through my veins.
Until I meet her…
Marlowe Masters.
Her darkness matches my own.
In my twisted world of dancing along the jagged edge of the blade…
She changes everything.
No weapon can protect me from the kind of death she will ultimately deliver.
*Villains & Vodka is a dark billionaire romance. If you don’t like a splash of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of dirty, then don’t take a sip of this TOP SHELF cocktail.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2018Loving this series, just can’t get enough, really surprised we got Marlowe and Harley’s story so early! Thought for sure they would’ve been held until much later in the series! NOT that I’m complaining because Harley’s was the one I was most looking forward too! 😁 ok, that being said I was going to drop this to 4 Stars purely because I wanted her to make him pay more BUT I love this series so had to give it the full 5 Stars! 😊
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2017Another dark and twisty read from Alta Hensley and again probably not all sweet romance and light as some of her previous works. This one wasn't as good I felt as the first Top Shelf instalment and I felt it was simply a bit rushed but never the less, Harlow and Harley work and the theme of Fear certainly is interesting!
A quick, satisfying and fearfully delightful romance - sort of!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reading Copy of this book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2017I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
OMG, this book will have you second guessing yourself due to the twist, turns and thriller in there.
It is a page turner that you will not want to put down, the saying that you can’t avoid your destiny came into mind several times while reading this book as it was just too dark and delicious.
The hot scorching scenes between Marlowe and Harley will have you looking for a cool down as they are so damn good. He choose a name that really suits him, Harley big impressive whose roar makes you go gaga as for Crow I have heard in some cultures that if you see one then Death is eminent!!!!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 December 2017So I am wavering between a three star and a four with this read. There were a few instances in this book where i found myself rolling my eyes as the flowery phrases from the main man, as well as those from our Marlowe.
Villains and Vodka take you back to the Spiked Roses Club for another story of the owners, we get to see Harley in action. The majority of this features over a weekend fantasy that turns dark for Marlowe in ways she did not expect. After this scene i sort of had an inkling of what was to come and boy was I right.
A good read, not as dark and torturous, but definitely edgy so fair warning to those who want all nice and flowery scenes. This is not it, for those of you who have read this authors work, then yes she certainly will not disappoint here.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2017Wow - this book left me breathless- it's so well built up with us getting to know Marlowe first and following the intense feeling she has about a man she has never met but still is fascinated by-so much so that she agrees to take part in a weekend "tasting" in the hope he will pick her for the weekend. The reader knows about Harley before Marlowe does so when she does indeed go off with him for the weekend having signed a contract in which she sets very few hard limits we already feel apprehensive for her- but nothing prepared me for what happened - to say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. I can't say anymore as I don't want to give any spoilers - but this is a must-read book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 December 2017Spiked Roses is after the named premises where a killer murdered in total twenty-two women this ‘gentleman’s’ club is a membership by invitation only and there is always a waiting list of potential hopefuls.
Harley Crowe is an assassin his dark tattoos and his reputation as “The Crowe” he has become involved in the ownership of the club which has ensured that he has an interest outside his usual given profession.
At the club there are a number of waitresses but unbeknown to “The Crowe” one of the waitresses known as Madison is more than a little obsessed with him, even though they have never actually been introduced in fact it is fair to say that to her knowledge he has not ever even noticed her presence.
Usually only the girls that wear black dresses are allowed to serve the members however on a regular basis they allow the other girls to Tasting Girls for the night and if they are selected they can negotiate contracts with a member for the evening, Madison signs up with the sole hope that she might catch the interest of Harley.
However, it’s very fair to say that you should be careful what you wish for ……
Once again Alta Hensley has written a book that has covered all the dark and twisted things you might have come to expect from her usual books and this boo most certainly does not disappoint and once you begin reading this book you will not be able to put it down….
I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 December 2017This is the second in Ms Hensley’s new series Top Shelf, the stories are set around a very exclusive ‘gentleman’s’ club Spiked Roses. The club took its name from the premises where it is said that a serial killer murdered 22 women and buried them in the cellar covering the corpses with rose petals to disguise the smell. This club is membership by invitation only and if you are not at least a one billionaire, don’t even think about joining, I use term gentleman very loosely. This dark tale is about one of the owners, Harley Crowe, a dark, tattooed and very scary looking assassin (known colloquially as ‘the Crowe’. Harley has become involved in ownership of the club to give him a business interest outside of his ‘profession’. Madison is a waitress and she is obsessed by Harley, although she has never been introduced and he has never noticed her. She wears a red dress and only the girls in black are allowed to serve the owners. On a regular basis the club holds an evening called The Tasting. Girls who work in the club can sign up to take part and they negotiate a contract with a member for the evening or a couple of evenings or indeed for a weekend or a week or longer. Madison signs up in the hope she will get Harley’s attention. One might say a case of be careful what you wish for. This latest story is very dark and in places twisted with taboo subjects tackled by Ms Hensley in her own inimitable style. A very entertaining and hot read, not really a romance, more a cautionary tale of sorts, but I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Villains & Vodka
If dark romance is your thing, Alta Hensley is the master! She can spin a dark tale! Spiked Roses is a billionaire boy's club where these twisted misters can drink their $1000 drinks and purchase their fantasy all with contract sealed with blood! Harley Crow is the villain, an assassin without excuses. Marlowe Masters is the mysterious beauty obsessed with him! In a room where these men can negotiate to have their wicked fantasies come true, Marlowe finally gets the attention of her obsession. The theme of the evening, Are you afraid of the dark?, doesn't scare her! But it definitely should!

5.0 out of 5 stars WHO’S AFRAID OF THE DARK?
Once again, Ms. Alta Hensley has penned a story that is spine-tingling, on-the-edge-of-your-seat, I can’t look, but I can’t look away page-turning tale. There is a unique cast of characters, some you will hate, some will have you hot and bothered, and some, you just aren’t sure about. The characters and situations are explicated detailed. The story is not for those who want wine and roses with a sweet storyline. The story is raw, edgy, dirty, painful, intense, explicit and erotic. This is dark erotic horror.
Marlowe Masters has reinvented herself from the girl she was, raised by a father that headed up an MC group in Oregon. When she graduated school, she left and never turned back, moving to New Orleans. While she tried to make it playing music, that just wasn’t paying the bills, and with the help of friends, she will get a job waitressing at the Spiked Rose, an exclusive gentleman’s club.
Harley Crow is one of the owners of the Spiked Rose and is a man to be feared. He is a known assassin, a killer, the epitome of a villain. He is heavily tattooed and thrives off of the fear he sees in others.
The club is hosting a Tasting, and they require all the owners to be present at this one whether they chose to participate or not. Harley has never attended before but will appease the other owners and attend. Marlowe has had a secret crush on Harley and will be one of the women who will be available for a contract at the Tasting. She is hoping to catch the eye of Harley Crow.
“He was my dark. He was my light.” “I hear him; I smell him, I taste him, I feel him. The senses of sin. To the edge.”
The plot will have Harley and Marlowe enter into a contract from the Tasting for the “Who’s afraid of the dark?” theme that could include knife play, breath play, ropes, cages, chains, etc. He will push her limits in an attempt to have her safeword, but she surprises him with her stamina for his depravity.
“It’s a balance of control. A wicked game of give and take.”
For Marlowe, she will open up and reveal things about herself she hasn’t told another soul because she feels a deep connection with Harley.
“I had never craved as badly as I did right now. There was absolutely nothing I wouldn’t do for this man. I was at his mercy in every possible way. He was pushing my limits. He wanted to see how far I would go. I would go as far as he took me.”
Dark, evil, and intense are part of the game, and maybe Harley pushed the limits of the game and the contract. The weekend will turn to a life and death fearful situation. When the truth is revealed, the true pain will shatter her.
“If I had only realized how much pain I would cause. This had nothing to do with fear, control, or dominance. This had nothing to do with the Tasting. I’d damaged an innocent girl who deserved so much better.”
“My demons danced with his. A morbid tango of torment and terror had occurred that very moment our eyes had locked. He got me. I got him. Flawed in the worst of ways, yet our darkness blended so perfectly.”
The story and sex scenes are explicit and dark. The story also has self-cutting. This is the second book in the series, and next will be Scoundrels and Scotch. This is an ongoing saga, but each story will read as a stand-alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars starting to get formulaic
I like this authors style and the cadence of her stories. There is just enough shadow to keep it interesting but still tame enough for the masses. I personally would LOVE for an author to REALLY dive into the darker side of intimacy, but I know most peeps get all twitchy about that stuff. --shrugs--
While i DID like this story-- read it on one sitting-- i can see a pattern forming for this series already. that makes me a little sad and a little reluctant to buy the next ones. Im a reader that likes twists and turns and "out of nowhere" behaviours from the regular cast of characters. I was literally talking out loud while reading this one saying things like here comes the flash back..... or, Let me guess, she discovers she likes spankings.......
bottom line is.. it was good -- i like the characters and overall concept, but its predictable

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!!
My favorite Alta Hensley book to date!!
This book was more than I ever expected! Just when I thought I had everything figured out.....EVERYTHING CHANGED!!!!! This book is in my top books of the year!
"Do you have scars on your heart as well ?” “ Not yet .”
Harley Crow is an assassin. A killer. The villain. Part owner of Spiked Roses. He has never loved anyone before. He knows that with the way he lives his life, that love cannot be a part of his life.
Men drank booze out of fancy glasses that cost more than I made in an entire month… unless I did a Tasting . The Tasting Room in Spiked Roses and the Tastings that occurred in that room were a different story.
Marlowe Masters works at Spiked Roses. Since she can remember she has wanted Harley Crow. His dark, mysterious ways interagency her. When an opportunity comes to work in the The Tasting Room, a special room at the Spiked Roses, she takes it. Harley is supposed to be there. He never goes to the tastings. This is her chance to get Harley to notice her.
“RED,” he said. “All you have to do is say RED. But if I don’t hear that word, I won’t stop."
What happens when Marlowe gets the her chance to be with Harley?
Can one weekend change anything?
What happens when things go to far and trust is broken?
Marlowe and Harley have this connection that cannot be broken or can it?
This book was AMAZING!!!! The story line was great. The plot twist was HOLY COW!!!! This book was so much more than I thought it would be. Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. I can tell that Alta put her heart into this book. The scenes are very well written and the characters have great development.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Forgiveness? Really?
This is a hard book to review. SPOILERS ahead!! I figured out the twist as it was happening. Harley DID state to Marlowe that she would hate him by the end of the week end. What he did was beyond unforgivable. There is the letter of the law (or contract) and there is the spirit of the law (or contract). Harley broke the spirit of the contract while holding to the letter of the contract. Why would Marlowe not believe what was happening was real? Harley was a paid assassin for Gods, sake. He had enemies who would want to hurt him through harming "his woman". If something like that happened to me, I would never be able to forgive the person. Marlowe just caved in after a day. I don't know, I just can't see that happening. I had bought the first two books in this series when they first came out. I don't know if I'll continue. At least not at this point, maybe later. Too many other books on my kindle. Four frustrated stars on this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
