    Eliza McKay loves her job as a junior editor at Sterling Press. She loves her authors, loves her coworkers, and adores her boss, Harry. But when Harry dies suddenly, things at work get shaken up. Harry's estranged son, Liam, takes the helm of the company, a quickly sìnking ship in a financial hurricane.

    Liam Sterling has a knack for dismantling and selling off companies, all with an eye on the bottom line. He comes to Sterling Press planning to implement his standard MO, but it’s not long before the employees, Eliza in particular, have him looking for ways to salvage the company and save their jobs.

    This may seem like a fairly typical premise and trope, but this talented, crafty wrìter effortlessly takes it to the next level with snappy dialog, delightfully quirky secondary characters and enough chemìstry to create a mushroöm cloud. Because Liam and Eliza together? Boom!

    I laughed out loud, I blushed, I my have yelled at a character a time or two, and I happy sighed my way to the very last word, not nearly ready to say goodbye to these characters I’d given a significant part of my heart to. The perfect beach read and the best possible distraction from a chaotic world, this is a sweet, sțeamy, hilarious, spectacular romcom you’ll want to start reading today. Your funny bone and romantic heart will both thank you.

    An opposites-attract, workplace romance, Lila Monroe’s The Romance Plan was a quick read that I devoured in a day. Light-hearted yet sexy, it was heavy on the comedy and high on the heat.

    Eliza and Liam come together as foes when Liam arrives to run his late absentee father’s publishing company where she is an editor. Working together to save the company from the precarious financial situation his dad left it in, they grow closer as the chemistry between them becomes impossible to ignore. Months of late nights, weekends in bed, and coaxing an old school romance author/diva into finishing her book, and they’ve slipped into full on coupledom. But when it comes down to the wire, a misunderstanding drives them apart, and in the ensuing days, it’s becomes clear that one of them made a grave mistake. I loved these two together precisely because they were so very different. Uptight, closed-off, stiff suit Liam and stars-in-her-eyes, clumsy Eliza wouldn’t match well on paper, but the sparks flying, flirtatious banter and sizzling chemistry were pretty hard to resist.

    The Romance Plan was a lot of fun, and it had its fair share of awkwardly cute and nerdy comedy. While it was definitely pretty steamy, there weren’t a lot of swoony, romantic moments—straight-laced, all business Liam wasn’t really that kind of guy. Even still, I enjoyed this book—it was cute, charming and very entertaining. The Romance Plan by Lila Monroe gets four smooches from me!

    I am a devoted fan of everything Lila Monroe, and The Romance Plan did not disappoint. I especially enjoyed Eliza's passionate defense of romance novels as female empowerment, and I only wish I had a time machine so my 13-year-old self could read it and lose her embarrassment over her/my lifelong love of Georgette Heyer. (Pauses to fan face as she imagines a Lila-style sex scene between Deborah Grantham and Max Ravenscar.)

    One modest request: that I or another copy editor be allowed to tidy TRP up. It's a little embarrassing for an *editor* not to know the difference between lay and lie, for example, and not to notice the many extraneous

    paragraph breaks. The extra periods. The commas that are superfluous here, missing there. (Ms. Monroe, if you're interested, I'd do it for love, as I do for Chrys Cymri's Penny White novels.)

    As an editor myself, I felt a real spasm of nostalgia for the process of ushering a hardback into the world. It would have made my day for Eliza to have confessed a sneaking fondness for the smell of bluelines, which most non-pros only tolerate. And at one point, I imagined a sexy scene where Eliza explains that you can't use a pencil in place of a condom just because it's non-repro blue.... (Aside: I worried once or twice when Eliza appeared to have forgotten that condoms are a Good Idea, at least until the couple decides they want to reproduce.)

    The Lila Monroe formula usually involves a misunderstanding that is cleared up by male groveling, so it was especially pleasant to have the gender card flipped in TRP. I wished that scene could have been expanded just a tad to add a few "reaction shots" showing the hero's response to the various Power Points.

    Finally, I am sad to report that something went wrong at the end, with the invitation to sign up for the newsletter and receive a free copy of "Rugged Billionaire." No matter how many times I signed up with different email addresses, the web site gave me only the HTML equivalent of "I don't know what you're talking about." Sigh. Now I'm going to have to (shudder) BUY "Rugged Billionaire"!

    A numbers guy and an incurable romantic don't exactly scream match made in heaven. Lila Monroe's latest addition to her Cupids series is utterly charming. Liam Sterling is rigid, stoic and only sees the bottom line. It's his driving force. Now he's tasked with trying to save his deceased father's publishing company that is deeply in debt. Eliza McKay grew up reading romance novels and wants to believe that someday some gorgeous hunk will sweep her off her feet. She finally has her dream job; editor at Sterling Publishing. Now it seems her soulless new boss Liam Sterling could take it all away. Eliza teaches Liam how to see the gray in between the black and white. With her he learns to have fun, smile more, laugh, relax and do something besides work. They make a great team as together they try to save Sterling.
