Take Me To The Edge: A Mountain Man Romance (Mountain Men of Whiskey River Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 720 ratings

She’s my best friend’s wife. I made him a promise I never thought I’d have to keep.
Now I’m about to dishonor him in the worst possible way…

River

I thought the hardest thing I’d ever have to do was bury my husband, my best friend, and the father of the child growing inside me.
Little did I know my husband asked his friend Storm to watch over me should anything happen.
Now that the worst has happened, or so I thought, Storm has me moved in with him.
A cabin in the Montana woods seems like a great place to hide for the battle ahead of us. Plus, now the pesky pregnancy hormones have me feeling the kinds of things I shouldn't be for Storm.
I bet that poor man can’t wait to get rid of me…

Storm
My life in the mountains was simple and quiet… until River.
When my best friend Jason made me promise to take care of his pregnant wife, I never imagined I’d have to keep it.
Now, the woman I promised to protect is under my roof and under my skin.
But not everyone seems ready to let Jason rest in peace, and River might be the one to pay the price.
I made a vow to protect her, and I will do whatever it takes to keep that promise, even if it means letting her go and having her take my heart with her…

ARC reviewWhat a well written story about love after loss! From beginning to end, I didn’t want to stop reading. Storm and River are thrown together in one of the worst way, but come out stronger.Storm will do anything for River. He protects her at all costs because of a promise he made to his best friend, but also because deep down he truly loves her.River is torn apart by the sudden loss of her husband, Jason, while she is pregnant with their first child. She doesn’t have a family of her own, so she lets her husband’s best friend take care of her. Ultimately, falling for him. They want nothing more than to grieve Jason, and do their best to respect his memory while moving on without him. It’s truly written beautifully.*Highlights*-This girl is going to take me to the edge of my sanity, and I can't wait for the ride.-"Love is always worth the risk.

This is the seventh book in the series. They can be read as standalone books but I think they are better read in order. Storm made a promise to his friend and he is having to keep his word a lot sooner than he thought he would. River was married to Storm's best friend and she is pregnant but then her husband died while deployed. Storm is bringing them back to the mountain after the funeral. The two have always had a connection that they ignored but now it is coming out full force. They are in such close quarters and helping each other grieve. That is not all though. River's in-laws are coming after her unborn child. Storm and the guys will protect her. They are helping her settle in and helping her make sure she gets to help keep her baby. There is more at play then they think at first. Storm is an amazing guy and River is so sweet. They make a great couple. But should they be a couple? This book was a fantastic read. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Great job Kaci.

This one made me cry, but I had to take a star off for the terrible editing. Storm is doing what he promised and caring for the wife of his best friend, after his death during military service. Lines get crossed and the chemistry is impossible to resist, but how do you come to terms with falling in love with your buddies wife? And River doesn't know how she feels, because feelings for storm are so different than her feelings for her husband. Seriously. This story has all the feels. Just ignore the typos and get lost in the story.

I've loved every single book in this series and this one doesn't disappoint either.

The reality of this story is intense. Freshly widowed, expecting military wife is thrown into a new place and a legal battle that tests her determination. But she's not alone, and her newfound family rallies around her.

The feelings of guilt, new love, and everything else are just fantastic. Though IMO this is the most graphic of the series when it comes to romance scenes. Just be prepared, and enjoy!

I enjoyed this book. I've read all the prior books in this series, I don't recall Storm being involved much in the prior books but I liked him. The story was believable. The mountain man in this one has a military background and the story was less about him living that lifestyle and more that's just where he lived and who his friends are. The guys and gals from the prior books are of course involved in Storm and River's love story to assist in making sure they reach their HEA.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This one is one of the better ones as far as story but the editing just keeps getting worse! Glad there weren’t Emilie POV chapters but confused because several books ago she was pregnant but no mention of a baby since even though Willows is mentioned. Where’s the baby?!

This story was cute and had me in tears. However, the number of mistakes was unbelievable. There were no typos because I'm sure it was spell checked, but there were tons of other mistakes. I hope the author looks into the error content I constantly flagged, because wow, just wow.

This one was amazing! New mountain man Storm and River, reading the blurb I’ll admit I was hmmmm I don’t know…. but so glad I took a chance’. Yes you know the ending, but wow they went through some problems and couldn’t believe that the family tried to do that, for real messed up. But it was a great story and waiting for the next!

Love these Mountain Men and Whiskey River. Each story deals with a different theme that the women face and that the men help keep them safe from. This book has the heroine, a pregnant widow learning to survive with the help of her husband’s best friend.

River finds herself alone and pregnant when her husband Jason is killed in action. Storm takes her under his wing after promising Jason he will look out for her if anything ever happens to him. She lets his parents know he has been killed in action and she is pregnant, but they never show up for the funeral. Storm then gets notice to leave their home at the base as other families are on the list. So she goes to live with Storm until she can sort her life out. Before she leaves her home at the base she is served with papers since Jason's parents have come out of the woodwork and want custody of her unborn baby. Storm, his parents, and friends rally around to help River through her ordeal of the forthcoming trial. Plus a great support network to help her through her pregnancy and anything else thrown her way. She also manages to find some work to help support her legal battle in her favor.
Although this is Book Seven in the Mountain Men of Whisky River, it is able to be read as a stand alone. Kaci pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages until the very end. I loved Storm and River's story and was sad when the book ended.

Enjoyed the story very much. Have read the whole series- all the books are short but good reads. Editing should definitely be improved on this book and the previous 2 in particular.
