    Alta Hensley has written another amazing work of art. Devils & Rye is a dark, sexy slightly taboo story full of steam, angst, suspense, secrets, mystery and a dark romance. Makayla and Alec have intense off the charts chemistry that left my kindle steaming and me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book by this author.     This story had my heart totally pumping. There were times I was on the edge of my seat hoping that everything would work out ok but not sure it would. At some parts my heart nearly stopped - thinking no, yet understanding completely why. We have met Alex before and after this story I really like him. I loved Makayla right from the start and together sparks fly.

    It’s always a pleasure to catch up with the Spiked Roses owners, but this storyline surely blows the previous books out of the water.

    But my God the cost of success and wealth is definitely paved with dark and dirty rituals I would be happy to stay a pauper. Wonder why sane human beings would want to hold onto such a tradition just to feel superior!!!!!!!!! My goodness the range of emotions that you go through while reading this book are astronomical, it is just that captivating

    You will not regret the time and money spent in this one seating worthy book as you will not be able to put it down till you get to the end.

    I found it a bit boring. Paragraph after paragraph for pages just repeating what had already been said. Going over everything until it's been disected to death. Total unnecessary waste of time, just a way of stretching out a very weak story. And the build up to this ritual that ended up being nothing extreme at all for her part of it.
    This book did nothing for me. It's like the author has ran out of ideas for this series now.

    In the 4th book of the series we meet Alec, another partner in Spiked Roses- the BDSM club in New Orleans. He is horrified to get a letter from his best friend who has got himself into serious trouble with the Iron Colt brotherhood. Alec had hoped to leave the brotherhood behind but realises that his friend Rhett is still beholden to them and will likely pay with his life. He begs Alec to look after and protect his 20 year old daughter Makayla. The only way Alec can ensure her safety is to take the girl somewhere where they won’t be found- a Lake house that he and Rhett own. To say much more would be to spoil this for other readers but suffice to say that we have moments in this book of tender love, steamy sex scenes and horrifying scenes when we realise just how terrifying the Iron Colt Brotherhood really is.
    I read this in one go- that’s how good it is! What a great find on kindle unlimited.

    Makayla has been working as a waitress and reception job and at twenty-years old she is suddenly under the care of a man she has known as Uncle Alec for all of her life, her father has asked that he take her and keep her safe. Within the organisation of organisations such as Spiked Roses any member that over extends or overuses his quota of allowed favours and good deeds the balance is taken in flesh, in this case it would fall on the shoulders of his daughter.
    Alec decides to remove her to the safety of the Lake House and is ensuring that all is kept professional and above board however this delightful young woman is a natural submissive and she attracts him “like a bee to honey”. Over time they are unable to resist each other and they have some very memorable moments together, very D/s orientated.
    Makayla discover the reason she has been sent to Alec and is horrified she sets out by herself to save her father, this not only puts herself and her father in danger it also puts Alec at risk as he tries to rescue the woman he has started to feel very deeply for.
    It was a very enjoyable read drawing on the older man and younger woman dynamic and also brought in the threat from the organisation if and when a member reneged on the rules. It was as always, a story that once I started I had to finish so that I discovered the outcome.
    It was another fine addition to the Top Shelf Series of books.
    I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

    This latest (No 4) in the Top Shelf series is a little different from the others, the main story is not set in Spiked Roses the gentlemen's club in New Orleans but mostly in the Deep South firstly at a Lake House (we don't learn where exactly that is) and then on a plantation in Athens, Georgia. Alec is one of the owners of the club and he has arranged for a waitressing and reception job for the 20 year old daughter of one of his oldest friends whom Alec has known all of her life (Makayla), she called him Uncle Alec. Because of her father's involvement with an old and traditional organisation which does favours for its members Makayla's father has asked Alec to take her away and keep her safe until he can get in touch. It seems her father has overused his favours quota and now he must pay the price, or rather his daughter must. Alec takes Makayla to the Lake House and of course they are strongly attracted to one another and although Alec tries to resist Makayla's submissive charms in the end he gives in and they get together, with some very hot scenes. However when Makayla discovers what will happen to her father, she takes off and ends up putting everyone in harms way. This series is very hot and taboo in parts and this story is too, with the older man and young woman schtick but I found it all a bit tame and didn't really live up to the hype. Still it was an entertaining read and kept me amused for a half a day.

    Once again, Ms. Alta Hensley has penned a story that is spine-tingling, on-the-edge-of-your-seat, I can’t look, but I can’t look away page-turning tale. There is a unique cast of characters, some you will hate, some will have you hot and bothered, and some, you just aren’t sure about. The characters and situations are explicated detailed. The story is not for those who want wine and roses with a sweet storyline. The story is raw, edgy, dirty, painful, intense, explicit and erotic. If you don’t like a splash of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of sex, then don’t take a sip of this TOP SHELF cocktail.

    Alec is one of the owners of Spiked Roses, he has done well for himself, still single, but doing well financially. He is shocked when he hears from his former business partner and longtime friend, Rhett Knox. In a letter, he asks Alec to please take Makayla to their lake house and keep her safe. Makayla, twenty-years-old, had just come to New Orleans and was to start working as a hostess in the club. The letter brings up old demons, ones that Alec walked away from but once again; they have made their presences known and not only will it affect Rhett, but Makayla and her innocence.
    It all revolves around the long-standing Iron Colt Brotherhood, which has been around since before the civil war, and most of the well-to-do families were born into it and passed down from generation to generation in families like it was for Rhett and Alec.

    “I know that being part of the society can help make every man’s—who is willing to pay the price—dreams to come true. The power of the men involved, the connections, the favors that can be granted. Politicians have gained their positions because of the brotherhood. Investments that have formed multi-billion dollar companies from nothing originated out of the brotherhood. If a member asks for a ‘favor,’ then the favor is granted by the other members of the brotherhood. But no favor comes for free. For every favor you ask, you have to put your name on a rock that goes into a large urn.”

    “That every a year, rocks are pulled, and the names on those rocks have to participate in a ritual of some kind. A ritual that could be deadly. “

    Rhett will leave his most precious item, his sheltered daughter, Makayla, in the care of Alec because he refuses to allow her to be part of the ritual when her name is drawn and instead, forfeits himself. But will that be good enough?

    Alec and Makayla at the lake house are attracted to each other, and he is fighting his desires to claim her. For Makayla, she wants Alec, and their desires will take over. Alec is old enough to be her father, he and her father were business partners, and he should resist, yet she wants this too. What they have at the lake house is sweet, but that is going to change because of her impetuous decision, the very one these men are trying to protect her from.

    Makayla can’t let her father’s life remain in jeopardy, and she will take off to try and rescue him, and the story will take on a matter of life and death danger. Now it isn’t only Rhett, but Makayla who will be part of the ritualistic games. Will Alec be able to save them, and what will be the cost of returning to the Brotherhood? Six women are going to be sold off to the highest bidder as slaves, and their Masters are allowed to do whatever they chose, for the women, they will endure a living hell of humiliation and pain.

    I really have loved the Top Shelf Series and this is book 4 Devils & Rye. This is kind of a taboo romance. Alec is not Makayla’s biological Uncle but, she has known him as Uncle Alec for a long time. Also, Alec is her father’s best friend meaning that Alec is old enough to be her father.

    I have really enjoyed the Top Shelf Series and I am hoping that this isn’t the last one in the series that Alta Hensley will come up with some more. Surely there’s more “top shelf” alcohol that can be written about.

    Devils & Rye is the 4th book in the Top Shelf Series. Alta Hensley did have me on the edge of my seat worried that something would happen that I didn’t want to happen. I know that sounds so vague but, I don’t want to spoil the story for others. You will just have to read this book if you want to know more.

    I was left wanting more from this story. I wish that this book ended a little differently. I felt the story just dropped from the ending. Other than that I loved the story and like I said earlier I am really hoping there will be more in this series. Or at least a spin off with now mixed drinks.

    I give Devils & Rye 4 stars. Even if there are no more books in this series Alta Hensley is now an author that I will be following.

    I'm enjoying the Spiked Roses Billionaire's Club series. Alta Hensley's dark romances are a spicy treat! This series is full of twisty, dark instalove, with morally grey heroes! In book 4 Alec is asked to protect and look after his long time friend and former business partner's daughter. Mikayla who is beautiful, young and innocent walks into 'Uncle' Alec's club and is quickly whisked away when danger comes knocking! On to the next one!

    This the first book I read in the series and it will probably be my last, I made it about 45% through the book and realized this story just wasn't doing it for me. Sometimes it can be intriguing or even sexy to read about the taboo or forbidden this book (even though it's supposed to be about those things) seemed to lean more towards the main male character being creepy and the female naive and ignorant than sheltered and innocent. There also wasn't enough relationship build up between the creepy fake uncle that has random flashbacks of his niece in name only when she's young enough to be wearing pigtails and said fake niece. Needless to say, this one wasn't for me.

    Alta has done it again. She has written another action packed thrill ride complete with super steamy sex scenes. She continues with the next installment and picks up right where the last one left off. Hot and steamy older gentleman taking care of a young hot woman. It explodes into hot steamy sex and doesn’t let you go until the very end. If only the women in her stories would just listen to her man, there wouldn’t be as much drama. But it makes for such intense reading that I can’t put it down. Great job Alta.
