Hasty (The Do-Over Series) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 812 ratings

I never thought my perp walk would lead to true love.

Then again, I never thought I’d be arrested on RICO charges and hauled away in zip ties on camera for the world to see, minutes after closing the most amazing deal of my career.

And all of it in front of my biggest rival, billionaire wunderkind Ian McCrory.

I am broke.

I am disgraced.

I am alone.

I am a sucker.

But the worst part? I have to go back to my hometown and live in my bedroom filled with relics from my childhood.

Lisa Frank never made me so mad before.

Just when I needed a rescue, I got one — in the form of help from my biggest rival.

He can’t bring back my money.

He certainly can’t bring back my reputation or my pride.

But there’s one thing he can bring back to me.

A sense of hope.

Maybe even love.

Ian sees something in me no one else does, and he’s relentless about making me see it, too. As we grow closer, I’m starting to see that while my entire life used to be a lie, the truth is staring me in the present — and it’s a truth I like very, very much, hot eyes and gorgeous smile and all.

But I have to be careful.

I can’t be too —

That’s right.

Hasty.

The final book in the USA Today bestselling Do-Over Series (Fluffy, Perky, Feisty), as Mallory's sister, Hastings "Hasty" Monahan gets her turn at a happily ever after that starts off with an arrest.

Hers.

And ends with a surprisingly cheesy happily ever after.

A truly great novel. Unique in many ways as we get to know how Hastings has to find herself from within and without. Ian is the prize, the support she realises and craves. A great novel that involves friends and family. It’s about loving oneself first so you can love another.

Hasty is Mallory’s older sister. She finds herself having to move back home after her husband ruined her life. Her nemesis Ian helps her discover who she really is. The person she is supposed to be.

Hasty, the final book in the Do-Over series (Fluffy, Perky, Feisty), is my favourite book of the whole series!! We’ve had 3 books to get glimpses of Hastings “Hasty” Monahan (Mallory’s sister) and what we’ve witnessed hasn’t left us with a great impression. She’s got a snarky and bitchy side, and is judgemental. She can’t understand how her sister Mallory is happy with her life in the small town of her childhood (and now adult life). Then the universe takes a massive dump on Hastings. First she finds herself arrested in public while her biggest rival/nemesis the hot, rich, smart and successful Ian McCrory looks on. She suffers the loss of her reputation, status, husband, job, house, most of her worldly possessions, everything she’s worked so hard for, and every shred of her pride. She’s broke, disgraced and alone, back in her hometown living with her parents. She’s also being relentlessly pursued by Ian offering her a lifeline. When no one else will offer her a chance, he does. He can see something in her no one else does. These two are a killer combo working together on the same team. Then they grow closer. Turns out that it’s not just work they end up doing together!

I honestly wasn't sure I would like this book, as I wasn't a big Hasty fan from the glimpses of her in the previous books, but this ended up being my favourite of the series!

Hasty grows and evolves as a person throughout this book, learning new things about herself, and realising that who she was in the past, and the way she treated others, wasn't the best way to be.

I loved this whole series, but the romance and character development in this one was a winner for me. Great read!

Julia Kent has done it again. This ladies brain is astounding.
Hasty is an amazing conclusion to the Do-Over series. The pace, humour and snark levels are sustained and the plot situations.... i don't know how she does it. But long may she continue.
Hasty or Hastings as she likes to correct everyone, had had her life turned upside down. As it falls apart Ian appears, her greatest rival.
Ian tried to support her but she will not give.
I love the story embellishments, sheep's milk, calf births, rabbits and gnomes.
The level of detail is captivating and the story lough out loud cackles.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it and the series.
Plus any other works by Julia Kent :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic story to end the series.

I have enjoyed reading the first three books in this series and confess that I wasn’t sure about what we were going to get in Hasty, however, oh boy, it is a fabulous treat and one I loved from the first to the last page.

The wonderful sense of humour that is in every book this author writes is fully evident in Hasty too. For example when Hastings thinks this at Mallory’s bachelorette party... “There’s enough food dye in there to turn a roomful of kids with ADHD into nuclear reactors.” 😆 -a very apt description. Great banter between the characters, especially the girls, and the fun that was had in various scenes often led to loud laughter that literally bursts out as you read.

The lighthearted humorous side of the story balances the more serious elements. These are not just the obvious downfall of Hastings, as disastrous as that situation was, it is much deeper and on a personal level. One that evolves over time and as we get to know Hastings better-having always seen her as a self-centred person who only thought of her next deal, it was an interesting change of pace.

I have to say these characters are so much fun but also very intuitive and do give great advice and support, even when downing a few cocktails. There are some scenes where you just go “Awwww, how lovely!” because they make you feel all squishy inside... well you know what I mean. Roy and Sharon, Hastings and Mallory’s parents, are a blast and deserve a special mention. Ian is one fine, gorgeous man who really doesn’t need a lot said about him... one can just dream about him. 😉

With a solid plot and some great descriptive vocabulary, fantastic characters, and a few twists this fast paced story just zips by and then... the series is over. It’s a bit sad really but exciting too to wonder what new series will be coming our way. I thoroughly enjoyed this very entertaining book and recommend it to everyone who likes to escape with a fun story.

I have had mixed feelings about some of the prior characters in this series, but my thoughts on Hasty, developed through the reading of the 3 prior books were never ambiguous - I always disliked her. (Which is clearly what the author intended). In this finale to the series, Ms. Kent takes this perenially pompous, condescending and unfriendly character on a path of personal transformation that is intense and unexpected, given her past.

The storyline is compelling for many reasons, one of which is that the set-up for this character was not a few paragraphs in a prologue, but as a running side character in three prior books. While this book works as a standalone, readers of the prior books will have opinions about Hasty and I doubt few would have favourable ones. The trials she experiences are proportionate to her prior success. The transformation of her character as she navigates those challenges is uncomfortable and necessary for her to be the sympathetic and likeable heroine that she becomes. Ian is the sort of man she would have chosen to be with in either version of her life, but the "old" Hasty would have chosen him for the wrong reasons, while the "new" Hasty has a relationship with him whose foundation is positioned for a long-term, meaningful love. Ian is a strong enough person to handle either version of Hasty, but they will both be happier in a relationship after her very clarifying challenges.

All of the characters in the prior books make meaningful appearances and their story arcs are continued in a way that makes this a very satisfying end to the series. This is definitely the best book out of the four.

I wasn’t sure I wanted to read more of Hastings, because I was sure I would like her more and I wasn’t ready. But wanting to see the wedding of
Mal and Will took over and I am glad I did! gimme an Ian already!

Ohhhhhh Hasty!!! Holy cow was this book more than I could have asked for!! Any time we saw Hasty in the past she was a total snob and b*tch (this reference throughout the book is absolutely hysterical by the way). Well, the new Hasty is totally different and oh man was it unexpected!!!! I think Hasty being who she was helped make this book slightly different than the other 3, and it's well deserved. Hastings IS different than the other three girls, so her book being slightly different is super fitting. I have to say though, this may be one of my favorites yet! There were so many elements to this book and a few twists and turns that were NOT expected. It was such a good blend of everything!!! I think the other books were a geared a little bit more toward the comedic side of romance, and this book was a little more rounded out.

In this book we learned sooo much! We got to see a ton more of Hastings and Mallory's parents, who are adorable and HYSTERICAL, and of course we got to see all of the girls. But even more, we got to see a completely 360 of who Hasty was when she was younger, what she had become married to the sleaze and who she evolved into. It was such an awesome process to witness (I almost wanted to say see, because I swear I was watching this play out in my head as I read it!). In reality, it was like the evolution of Hasty and what it took to make her the best she could be.

And oh man Ian, I cannot talk about this book without talking about Ian. And Eric, and cheese, and well everyone. The chemistry and slow burn between Ian and Hastings was soooo hot. I was constantly jonesing for more moments between these two, and mannn did Julia hold out good on us!!! From him popping up everywhere to his white knight complex, he was just the best. And I LOVED how Julia brought in some people from Hastings past, especially Eric. He ended up being such a significant secondary character (and I LOVE me some good secondary characters). We got to see some truly hysterical moments between these two. In fact, I think we need an entire novella of just the shenanigans of Eric and Hastings!

And we can't forget the girls! Mallory, Perky & Fiona had really significant roles in this book. These two really helped Hastings put the pieces back together and in some really hysterical ways. These girls were so blunt with her, I had many laugh out loud moments because of it. The best part though, was how really took Hastings in. AND I LOVED the Taco, Taco, Taco and Beanerino moments!! Some of them were priclessssss!!!

I feel like I could go on and on... but I won't. JUST GO READ IT, PLEASEEE!!
