Avery has returned to her hometown for the first time since her parents died in a car accident. BUT she knows it was a murder and now she may be their next target. Ethan is there to protect her but she doesn’t know that.

This was a perfect way to spend an hour. It’s a quick read and for a short story/novella I didn’t feel it was underdeveloped or rushed. From the start I was trying to second guess the bad guy. It was a perfect blend of a whodunit and instalove.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Quick and easy instalust with a dose of romantic suspense. Avery Jones returns to Starlight Bay, Massachusetts for the first time since her parents died 10 years earlier. When she goes her best friend’s birthday party, she meets Ethan, who is actually an FBI agent assigned to watch her while she’s home visiting since it’s believed some trouble may stir up from her visit. WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

Ethan and Avery met when she goes back to Starlight Bay. Avery has been away for ten years, she left after graduating high school, she moved to California and never looked back. Avery's friend Riley wants her to come back so they can celebrate their birthdays. Ethan came to Starlight Bay because he inherited his uncle's home, but he needs to get close to Avery. After Avery gets her things she finds all her friends parting at her friends home, but she doesn't want to so she heads to the beach. Ethan walks up behind her and they start talking. Ethan walks with Avery to the beach, then he leaves her to go surf, but he notices she sits alone and just looks out at the water. When Ethan heads home he gets in contact with his team, they want him to get close to Avery. Then he heads to Big Chowder for supper, after he places his order he notices Avery sitting near him. They begin talking and soon she moves to his table. When dinner is over, Ethan pays for Avery's food, then they head out to the beach to take a walk. Avery tells Ethan some of the things her and Riley use to do when they were younger growing up together. Soon they start kissing each other, but hear teens coming so they stop. They walk down the beach, with Ethan's arm around Avery they walk towards her home. When they arrive at her home she notices the white gate is open, and he tells Ethan. He wants to check things out for Avery. Then they say good night to one another. The next morning Avery's cell phone rings, and it's Ethan, but she doesn't remember giving her number to him. Ethan explains that he got it from Riley but if he doesn't want him calling he'll lose her number. Ethan tells her he just wanted to say good morning, but then Avery hears footsteps on her porch and asks him if he's there, but he tells her no. Ethan asks her if she wants to go to breakfast but Avery now hears someone in her home. Ethan tells her to lock herself in her closet and he'll be right over. Avery tells him to call the police, that he shouldn't come, but he tells her he's almost there. Avery hears two male voices outside her bedroom door. When Avery hears sirens in the distance she notices the footsteps leaving. Then she hears Ethan but she doesn't answer. Soon her closet door is busted open and the first person she sees is Ethan's. He tells her someone tried to break in but she's safe now. Ethan notices her suitcase still unpacked so he zips it closed and tells her to come with him. Ethan takes her to his home, then he puts a call into his partner. When Ethan give Avery something to drink she tells him she shouldn't have come back. Ethan asks her why not and she tells him she thinks her parents were murdered. When Riley finds out she calls Avery, but she lets her friend know she's staying with Ethan. Later Ethan makes them something to eat, then they settle in to watch a movie. Avery's hands roam over his body, he tells her if she keeps doing that he's not going to be able to stop himself. She tells him sorry but he tells her he's not, he just wants to make sure they want the same thing. When Avery tells him she does, they begin making out. Avery tells him she wants him and he tells her than he's hers. They head to his bedroom where Ethan pleasures Avery, then they make love. Ethan tells her to sleep in his bed tonight and then she cuddle closer to him and tells him yes. Ethan wakes the next morning, they tell each other they both haven't slept that well in a while. Avery asks him to take a shower and he tells her he needs to make a phone call. Ethan calls his partner to find out if they found out anymore about the man who is after Avery. Ethan and his partner agree the man is still in town, he wants Avery dead just like her parents. They both agree they think they have a a mole in the department, so they tell each other to watch their backs. For the next two days Avery and Ethan stay at his house, but she can tell he's on edge. When Avery suggest she go home, he tells her no. Avery tells him he'll get tired of her, but he tells her he feels much better knowing she's safe. Ethan suggest they take a walk on the beach, so they head out at dusk. Avery notices that Ethan is acting like a cop, he tells her he doesn't want anything to happen to her. She tells him that's why she never came back to Starlight Bay, he asks her what does she mean. Avery tells Ethan about her parents, that she misses her parents, Riley's parents took her in. When Avery missed them she would go back to her home, but her parents had one rule, she wasn't allowed in her dad's office. One day when she missed them she wonder in there, it was just like they were still around, she could smell her dad's cologne and he had a half glass of scotch on his desk. She scanned the books on his book shelf, when she pulled out one of the books the wall moved. She tells him about the hidden staircase leading to a basement. She tells him about the papers that she found her father left behind. Ethan asks her if she told anyone and she tells him no. She found a letter her dad addressed to her warning her not to trust anyone and to leave Starlight Bay and never come back. After all those years with no signs of danger, she thought maybe her Dad was paranoid. So she came back, but now whoever killed her parents is now trying to kill her. Ethan asks her if the things her father left are still in that room, she tells him yes. Ethan tells her he's glad she told him, she asks him what happened, he tells her it'll all be alight. Avery tells him she trust him, and feels safe with him. Ethan tells her he needs to tell her something. Ethan confesses he's with the FBI, he tells her she's the most important to him. He tells her he was sent to get in contact with her, and she's right her parents were murdered. He tells her he knows there's a mole in the FBI, but his partner is the only one to trust right now. Ethan asks her if she trust him, he tells her he's falling in love with her so this means more to him. She tells him she's falling for him too. Ethan tells Avery he needs to call his partner to come to Starlight Bay. They come up with a plan before Ethan's partner arrives. When Ethan's partner arrives they go over the plan and the safe word. Ethan and his partner head off to Avery's home, hoping to catch the criminals. They watch over Avery's home until they see moving then send the safe word to her. Soon they have the criminal and the crooked FBI agent in their sights. When they get into a fight their guns go flying. They hear sirens in the distance, but then Ethan hears Avery's voice she tells them to stop or she'll shoot. Ethan gets the criminal handcuffed then takes the gun from Avery. When the criminal tells Avery he should have killed her with her parents, Ethan knocks him out. Two weeks later, they watch the news on Starlight Bay, but Avery tells Ethan they've heard enough for now. Avery moved in to Boston and in with Ethan. Avery tried to quit her job but her boss told her she could work remotely. They now spend every weekend in Starlight Bay, it finally became the home she always wanted it to be, she feels safe. Ethan tells her he loves her and he'll always keep her safe. Avery tells him she knows and she loves him too.

Another instalove story for the win!

After ten years, Avery returns to her hometown. She didn't want to come back as the loss of her parents was too great. Everything reminded her of her past and being such a small town, people wouldn't leave her alone about who was missing in her life.

Things in her life changed when she meets Ethan.

She was so sure that she wasn't able to keep a relationship but found falling for Ethan easy. He made her feel loved, cared for, and safe.

They have a quick start and learn things about one another that would normally make you question everything but, the outside situations that loom in the shadows, show them just how right their fast paced love really is.

A sexy summer tale. I love the authors style of writing, it’s really engaging and easy to read. This novella has a mixture of action, suspense and romance and is a great summer read.
I love the way the feeling of belonging and yet not being part of a small town is captured in the book. I also liked the fact that the main characters are likeable and that readers want to see how their relationship develops. The book left me wanting more and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author again soon.

Avery's parents were murdered ten years ago, and she has lived in fear across the country ever since. When she comes home to Starlight Bay for a friend's birthday celebration, she meets Ethan, the FBI agent assigned to get to know her. Immediately, sparks fly. When it all goes down, will Ethan be able to keep her safe?
Eva Winners has penned a Mafia beach read, and it is oh so good! Avery is closed off at the beginning, but soon warms up to Ethan. Their chemistry is hot, and the story has a healthy bit of spice to it. Definitely a must read.

Secretive Love

Man of the Month, Book 8 of 12, August, in the Starlight Bay Series! Avery returns 10 years after her parents' abrupt death to her hometown, Starlight Bay, MA to celebrate her shared birthday with BFF, Riley.

Avery's father had been a top criminal attorney in the country, taking his last case he put them all in danger on the criminals' radar. With Avery knowing her father's biggest secret, she was still in danger after 10 years. Solid, yet quick plot, twist, and intrigue. Heat, suspense, insta-lust/love between Avery and Ethan!

Wow, what a suspenseful book

This was a great book. Avery was the daughter of a high profile defense lawyer who defended the mob. Both her parents were killed in a car accident which she always thought it wasn't an accident. She stayed away from her home for 10 years. She finally got talked into visiting by her childhood friend. Things started happening after her arrival. She met Ethan who wanted to protect her but he had a hidden secret, he was FB I. You'll have to read this book, it's pretty exciting and interesting. :)

The story of Avery Jones coming home ten years after the death of her parents. FBI agent Ethan is assigned to follow her realizing she knows something about their death. There is some suspense in their story, but above all their falling in love.
This was the perfect book to read during my busy summer. It held my interest and I liked the way Eva told us Avery and Ethan’s story and while it wasn’t long, it knew exactly all the details. A five star summer read.

Avery was returning home, with a struggle, after being gone since her teenage years.  She missed her best friend, but after the losses she had suffered, home was no longer safe.  Her past was marked.

Ethan had followed Avery back to her hometown as part of his job.  He needed answers and she needed protection. What he didn’t know was the unexplainable draw and connection they shared.  She quickly became more than an assignment.

After the death of her parents, Avery Jones left Starlight Bay to escape all the looks and rumors that followed her. Now 10 years later, she back for a visit to see her best friend. FBI agent Ethan follows her back to her hometown to find out answers dealing with the death of Avery's parents.

This was a fun and suspenseful short read. As I am new to Eva Winners, it was a nice little taste of her work. I can honestly say that I'm going to go check out her other work.

Avery returns to her childhood home to visit her best friend. It has been ten years since she's been back and she still can't shake the bad memories. Ethan shows up on the beach and is a seemingly easy distraction. Yet Ethan and Avery tend to really hit it off. Add the romance to the mystery and action that follows and this is a packed full of fun novella!

Torn

Spoiler: So I was really torn on this book. I really wanted to like it more but there were just several things that didn’t fit right with me. Like how she could just let that information just sit there for that long. And if they were so determined to get to her why would they have waited 10 years. Just didn’t flow for me.
