“Me. I said it. You’re mine. Always fucking have been, and always fucking will be.
Yeah nope. Sorry. Not gonna happen.
This was so disappointing. I thought this would be an epic grovel romance with mafia and surprise kid and it’s a second chance. Can’t you imagine an amazing plot? I did. I wish I didn’t.
Declan is in the mafia and soon learns that the woman he loved in secret, 14 years ago has a son. His son. He brings them both back into his life and tries to be there for all the years he wasn’t.
“Beautiful.” My smile was shaky. “Thank you.” “Never thank me for the truth,”
Unfortunately nothing happens. I got so bored that I can’t believe I actually made it this far. There was no grovelling. She came back into his life and immediately jumped back into bed. And BAM! He was forgiven. I didn’t really like the writing either. It was captivating sure. But I felt like there was so much talk and no show whatsoever. There was no angst or tension or chemistry for that part. The kid was sweet. I would’ve kept reading for him if not for the fact that I needed tape to hold my eyes open. So nope. DNF
The third book in the Five Points Mob collection is about Aela and Declan. At the end of the second book he is badly hurt in a shooting and he finds out that his high-school girlfriend, Aela, was pregnant when they separated and he has a 14 year old son. So this is a second chance, surprise baby mafia romance. What I appreciate and what makes me keep reading this series, although it is not a 5-star read for me, it's the authenticity of the story. I've read a lot of mafia romances this past year and this series doesn't romanticize the mafia. They are bad guys with a violent upbringing. This particular book deals with homophobia in a very direct way. The patriarch of the O'Donnelly family is a very strict catholic (oh, the irony). He is very much against non-traditional values and Declan has been the target of his father's bad behavior for years as he is an art aficionado and that didn't bode well with the criminal lifestyle. I liked Aela a lot. When she gets back together with Declan she is a well established artist. She is strong and a good mom. I could relate to her inner dialogue about her conditioning as a mob child. It was an interesting book overall and it felt more realistic than other books of this genre. I just don't clash very well with the author's writing style but I will continue with the other books in the series.
AHHH!! I am officially addicted to Serena Akeroyd's Five Points' Mob Collection series. Finn was delicious and Eoghan was to die for but there was something about Declan that made me fall head over heels. I loved him and Aela. Their second chance love story had everything I love in these stories and more!
Gah what I've more than anything in this story was the way Declan truly loved Aela. His raw emotions for her came right off the page. Furthermore, Aela was the quintessential badass heroine that I loved. She was strong, remarkable and took no prisoners. She knew what kind of family Declan came from but would do anything to protect her son.
Overall, I loved Filthy Dark. Declan was alpha and proud but he was also kind and considerate and loved his family more than anything. I loved this story so much! ~5 stars! ~Ratula
I was so excited to get my hands on Declan's book. Second chance romances are one of my favorite types! Add in the Five Points and a past full of deceit, darkness, and young love, I knew Filthy Dark was going to be epic, and I was absolutely right. Aela is perfection. Smart, creative, courageous, and so very strong, I adore everything about her. Declan, misunderstood, wounded, and so very romantic, I was swooning from the very beginning. And Seamus, the most awesome 14 year old I've ever read about, was such a deep and incredible character. There was darkness, light, and plenty of chaos, but the family came together to solve their problems and piecing together the clues was very satisfying. I feel so invested in these characters, and luckily, there's plenty more to come.
SQUEEEEEE!!!!! He's LIVE!!! You guys can finally dig into Declan and Aela's story in Filthy Dark❤
But are you ready for this story? I love these Feckers so much. This journey started with Screw You and Screw Me a year or so ago and who knew it would lead me here... But I have to say, Declan is totally my kind of hero. I loved Finn, but Declan, he may just be my book boyfriend soulmate. That is until I write the next one that gets my toes curling!! ;)

I have grown to love this series and so I was excited to see Declan's story finally being told. We meet Aela briefly in Filthy Rich and I love how she has done everything she can to protect her and Declan's son from the craziness of the Five Points. She always knew that she and Declan would end up back together and I love how instead of becoming a caveman and being a jerk about the fact that his son was kept from him, Declan accepts it and even approves of the way that Seamus has been raised. It is nice to see his brothers beginning to stand up for Declan and to try to protect Seamus from the family's business as much as possible. This was a sweet re-connection of old lovers and I love to see how they fell in love all over again. I cannot wait for Brennan's book!
I liked how the H put his food down when it came to all the interfering people with opinions on how he should handle the “secret” the heroine kept from him. He acknowledged her choices were for the best and respected her for it. I loved how he was with her and his kid.
The heroine was pretty great as well (but at times I think she was a bit too great - her success and her life for the past 15 years just sounded a bit too far fetched - I get that it was so that she would be viewed as awesome but it went a bit too far)
Why the 3 stars? While this was okay and enjoyable to read, it wasn’t exactly exhilarating. The romantic relationship needed something more to make me believe it was as passionate as it processed to be. The plot as well. It was okay but it didn’t stun.
And lastly - I don’t like much of the H’s family. His parents particularly. They need to be out in their place. I liked 2 of the brothers but the others left me feeling a bit annoyed. And the brothers wives - well, I haven’t read those books but I don’t like how the dynamics of all the relationships sound. It’s all very old school, man knows best attitude and I’m not down with that.
This book brings so many factions together in Fithy Dark. Secrets upon secrets are revealed. We have Declan the most misunderstood of the brother's and the brother who Aiden Sr. always picked on the worst because of his love of the arts. He was thrown into situations at a much younger age than his brother's were. We find out so much in this book about his relationship with Aela O'Neill and his ex fiance Diedra. We learn why Aela ran away and raised her son Seamus away from the Five Points, always knowing that Declan would find her some day. They were reunited briefly at the end of Filthy Rich when she came to them for help for a student Ama from their Saints MC, who recognized the tattoo on Aela's wrist. What was great about this book was that Declan didn't react at all the way Aela expected him to when he found out that he had a son named Seamus. These two were always meant to be together, especially as you read the book which just sucks you in. It takes you back to when they were kids and you learn so much along the way. Seamus is a breath of fresh air for the family! He has opinions and is not afraid to express them. He and his mother are very close and he will stick up for her evem to the head of the family. It will be interesting to see how he changes the Five Points as he gets older. Serena Akeroyd knows how to weave the tale so seamlessly that you get to see how close knit this family is and how serious they take their ties to woth the Satan’s Sinners as well as the Saints. Now I can't wait for the next book in either series especially the next Filthy Sex book. This book is definitely a 6 star read and must read
Audiobook Teddy Hamilton and C.J. Bloom helped to bring Declan and Aela's story to life. Declan finds out after getting shot that he has an instant family with Aela. All his brother's were expecting him to freak out and be mad that she kept Shay away from him for fourteen years. Instead he was accepting of what she did and welcomed them into his life. I loved Teddy Hamilton as Declan, his voice just made him sexier than just reading the words on the page.
THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING I WAS WAITING FOR AND SOOOO MUCH MORE!!
Serena Akeroyd..you did it again..you wrecked my heart with Declan's story and then healed it back..
When I first saw the plot lines for Declan's story I was hooked!!! A secret pregnancy.. Second Chance romance. Mafia romance. Vulnerable hero and a strong independent woman!
Aela was magnificient!! It takes a lot to stand up to AIDEN SR, Declan's father and Irish mob leader, but she did for the sake of Declan and her son Seamous. I love the mother son interaction....it was adorable
I loved that they both took chance on a relation more than 14 years old not for just their baby but for the still existing connection and love they felt for eachother. The storyline was perfect and the secondary characters was supportive and impressive.
T the end of book 2, I knew Declan' s story was going to be heartbreaking...And I wa sooo not disappointed...The author gave her everything and I could feel the emotions of the characters ozzing out of the pages...
A perfect combination of Romance...action..drama...and heartbreak with all the healing!!!!
I would love to see more of Seamus and how an innocent boy who is the heir to the whole Irish Mafia clan will work out...Can't wait..please let him have his book!!!
I could see the glimpses of Brennan and Connor's love interest and their plotlines are unique as well....also Aiden jr has a special place in my heart tooo...
I am waiting ( desperately need book 4) ...For Connor's book !!! I am waiting to see the woman who brings the computer genius of the mafia Clan " CONOR" on his knees!!!
Well, isnt Declan such a mix of dark and light! Loved this book, so glad he and Aela got their happy ending. I loved how Aela had no problem standing up to Aidan Sr, she is a true mama bear 😁 And Seamus! Great character, I'd love if he got his own book in a few years time. Cant wait to see who Brennan has decided hes going to marry and does she even know?!
One of the worst mmcs. I don't vibe with this writing style at all
Something about an mmc in a romance referring to another woman as a "money grabbing slut" really doesn’t vibe well with me nor does it make him attractive.
Why is our mmc an incel? And is fighting homo-allegations from his catholic, murdering mafia father?
And the way he convinced his father he wasn't gay was him yelling "I got a bitch!" Yeah, he refers to women as "bitches."
Also saying he's glad Deidra is dead was weird as well? Why are you glad a woman is dead? Even she WAS a money grabbing slut...?
Like...
He also killed a woman named Leticia and called her a slut... and called another one a bonified bitch he wanted to squash with his shoe...?
Im confused? Are we supposed to find this mmc desirable?
Sorry, are we making incels romance heroes now? I missed that memo...
Also the romance isn't giving. The chemistry is not there. I don't connect with the fmc at all. She loves her son (who has the ugliest name btw) and that's it.
Also she was comfortable being his side piece, because she wasn't "self centered" like Deidra, says the mmc lol.
So yeah, the fmc has no self-esteem...
And also, at the beginning, I think the mmc says something about craving another woman?
How are you using the word "craving" for any other woman BUT the fmc?
The amount of unnecessary inner monologues and details in this book made my head spin. This is the same exact issue I had with the second book. Haven't read the first one.
The author was literally rambling on and on about the most idiotic things in this book. SO MANY face-palm moments. SO MANY RIDICULOUS details that weren't needed. I could feel the author losing track of the story so many times. She spend so much time detailing random things that she didn't even focus on the story.
Someone asks a question and three pages of inner monologue later the question is answered and I'm just confused 🤔 .... What was the question? What was the scene? What was the situation? What is GOING ON?
I was excited for this book, the set up for their story in the second book was amazing. But this was just a disappointment. Trying to find their story in this jumbled mess of rambles was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I see all these 5 star reviews and I'm wondering have I read the same book.
Okay first I appreciate the author putting warnings. Second I love how she involves everyone’s point of view. Was hooked into finding out my Declan and Aela’s story since the first book and second book only increased the desire. Aela is my favorite up-till now from the series, loved her strong “non-girly” character! Loved their kid Seamus point of views which showed Aela’s upbringing! Declan was such a sweetheart <3 poor man went through a painful childhood but glad that he wouldn’t impose his background on his kid! Beautiful book ❤️
Declan's story, is hands down my favorite in this series so far! I'm completely obsessed with the Five Points Universe and the detail that Serena Akeroyd put into this world is unbelievable! The journey shared between Aela and Declan is a love story that needed to be told. I can't wait for Brennan's book!
Aela and Declan’s story is a second chance mafia romance I do love this series a lot but this trope is not one of my favourite’s that’s for sure. I did end up enjoying this all this author's books are just so gripping and easy page-turners and this one was no exception. Once again this has a dark flavour but that is due to the situations and genre rather than the relationship itself.
I think I’m able to get more on board with this hated trope of mine with this particular author because of the lack of major angst in the now-time all of the relationship drama here tends to be in the past and after reconnecting again Declan and Aela are both working from the same page which is ultimately a desire to reconnect and all without playing the blame game.
There’s a nearly fifteen-year gap since they were originally together and also a bit of a backstory. Miscommunication and youth and some selfishness and stupidly on Declan’s part caused Aela to run across an ocean pregnant with Declan’s child. After current events bring them back together and with Declan almost dying he now learns he’s a father to a fourteen-year-old he knew nothing about.
Neither had stopped loving the other even after all this time. Declan feels that Aela is the only one that has ever accepted him completely and actually gets him but at the time he was just too young and selfish and totally under his father's influence to break away. Nearly dying brings it all into perspective and now he wants something different for their son namely the choices he wasn’t offered himself.
Declan has been the quietest brother of the Donnelly siblings but still, waters run deep with him he’s used to being his fathers whipping boy mostly due to his interest in the arts and classical music. His father thinking he needed to man up means he’s learned to hide who he is moulding himself into someone his father could be proud of he’s in the life because it’s expected of him and because it's the family business and all he’s ever known.
Aela has made a name for herself as a successful artist and though she’s been free and out of the five points these past years she still knows exactly what’s expected of her. She has raised her son to be able to take care of himself and to also have a mind of his own and she has always been honest with him regarding his father and origins.
Being back home brings its own set of challenges there’s danger in this lifestyle but Aela also realises that it's not the only peril her son has been exposed to there’s an element of danger everywhere and at least they’re fully protected with a man that would kill to keep his family safe from harm.
This was well written and easily invested me in the unfolding action and romance it was a good addition to the series and the finish with this one was also lovely and very heartfelt in fact it left me smiling. I definitely recommend this series it really is fabulous.
Secrets, secrets and more secrets come to light, while some are good, some are bad, others are gonna make people bleed. While their pasts are full of deceit and lies Declan and Aela deserve a second chance more than anyone. Aela has become an unbelievably strong, smart, creative and open minded woman. She is a great mom and doesn't hold stuff back from her son even if the truth is hard. And she won't let the patriarch of the O'Donelly clan corrupt her son either. Don't mess with a mama bear and she is in good company with the other Feckers ladies.
Declan is misunderstood, damaged and the odd man out in the O'donnelly family. He likes the arts, the theater, and the opera to the dismay of his father so now he likes making people bleed when they hurt his family. And now that he is a dad he has some decisions to make, like not letting his son become him. Turns out there are many layers to Declan and I'm glad he didn't go downtown he road expected when Aela came back into his life. Then there is Seasum. Seamus is a breath of fresh air as a combination of all the best parts of the Feckers balled into one and clearly he is going to tip the Feckers on their ear with his world view. I hope he gets his own book down the road. I would love to see how he takes the Five Points world and spins it around.
I was sucked in from the start and the book didn't want to let me go until the end. As we get answers to what really happened to Declan and Aela the heat gets turned up on the family and there are some rats that need taken care of and family to protect. There are some unexpected twists, more groundwork is layed out between the Feckers and Sinners and a world that is about to be set on fire.
Sigh, another fecker that has gotten to me. I will put it out there first thing, I love this universe. I was already sold on the Satan’s Sinners series, but now these Filthy Feckers come into play and just ruin me.
Filthy Dark revolves around Declan and Aela, who were introduced in the previous book, Filthy Rich. One of the things I have come to enjoy about Serena Akeroyd’s books is the darkness in her characters, without them being repetitive. Each of her male characters is damaged, but how they deal with that damage is fascinating. I also very much appreciated that Declan did not react to Aela in the manner I expected.
Aela is another strong female character. She is in good companies with Ms. Akeroyd’s other female leads. I cannot wait to get a scene with Guila (Nyx) and Lucie (Their Sinner). I very much appreciated that Aela was financially independent in her own right, through her own work.
Serena Akeryod continues to excel at laying the groundwork for future stories, as well as continuing to tie in characters from previous books. I honestly can not wait to read Bren, Conor and Aiden’s stories. I am even holding out for Seamus’.
This is the third book in the Five Point Mob collection and my absolute favourite so far. Declan was always an intriguing character from previous books so it get a book based around him is great but with an insight I didn't expect! Its an emotional rollercoaster ride which leaves you at times sobbing but begging for more. The relationship between Declan and Aela is a second chance baby romance like no other I've ever read. Loving the way it links back to the Sinners MC which if you haven't read yet, you need to!!! Now I need the next book asap
Flipping Fantastic! Declan and Aela are my new favorite Filthy Feckers couple! Their story is amazing! I love Declan, Aela, Shay, and all of Declan’s brothers, who are all fabulous characters. I love the multiple POV’s, which gives us inside insight into many of the characters. I also love the crossover with Satan’s Sinners MC! I am so excited and cannot wait for the next book in this fantastic series!
This has been my least favorite of the series, and a lot of it is personal preferences.
What I liked: 1. Aela is a great mom, and I loved that she was protective of him, wanted to give Seamus culture and a life. She provided for him and cared for him. 2. Second chance isn’t normally my jam, but overall I enjoyed them as a couple. 3. Declan is a man of the arts. I enjoyed that as well. 4. I love the brothers. 5. Great steamy scenes.
What I didn’t love: 1. Aela is the other woman in the flashbacks. While the reasoning behind it makes sense, and the fact that Declan and Aela really do love each other made it easier to swallow, this was hard for me to get past. 2. There is a lot of emphasis on the arts being not manly, and while I get the message is that the arts can be for men (and this message was coming from an old school mafia dad), the way it was worded made me uncomfortable at times. 3. The amount of times Declan fixated on his son’s sexuality saying he didn’t care who he was or who he loved but then said he just knew based on how he looked at girls he was straight. It just seemed unnecessary. 4. I wish the action at the end would have been more threaded through the whole book.
Again, I think the message of inclusivity of all sexual preferences and the arts being for everyone was the message but I don’t know…the message was good, the delivery fell short.
The Filthy Feckers and their Dark and Delicious World has once again completely consumed me. Filthy Dark was a second chance romance story interwoven amongst the dark and dangerous world of the five points mafia. Riddled with secrets, suspense, action, twists, banter, love, and passion, this story and its perfect blend of dark and light had me completely hooked from the first to the very last word. The Hero Declan, is somewhat the black sheep of the family and often misunderstood by most, except for Aela. While a true alpha and mobster, we also saw him to be caring, romantic, swoon-worthy, and Kindle melting HOT!. As a heroine Aela is pure perfection, she is independent, smart, sassy, strong, fiercely protective, and has a serious backbone that is truly admirable. SEAMUS!!!!!! may only be 14 years old but he played a poignant role in this story. His character is sweet, protective, and passionate and I hope we see more from him in future books. I simply can't get enough of these characters. Serena has a knack of intertwining in the foundation for future stories and can't wait to devour each of them. Brennan is next I can't wait!!!
I could copy/paste my review for the two previous books here, because it's the same thing just a different couple and setup.
The last one was marriage of convenience, this one is second change + hidden baby. Again, I thought the couple was fine and I enjoyed that in this one it took them a bit longer to get together, but - now that I think about it it actually didn't, they just didn't meet until further into the book. Once they met they actually got back together pretty quickly, never mind then.
Actually, that's one of my gripes with this series - besides the annoying monologues, the flimsy plot, and the rushed ending- the couples get together so easily. They are put in these dramatic situations and yet there's no angst, no conflict or struggle between them. I need to feel something when I'm reading and these books just keep giving me meh feelings. Not sure if I'll pick up the next one, not really super curious right now...
This is the third book in this series by this author and what an amazing story this is. This book follows the characters Declan and Aela through there relationship. This is a second chance romance read which will hook you from the first page till the very last one. This story has the perfect mix of dark, light and chaos to keep you reading long into the night. This author has an amazing way of bringing everything to life, the details in the story make you feel like your actually there. This story has lots of twists and turns.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Absolutely loved this book! (And Seamus...such a sweet momma’s boy.) Certain parts were difficult to read (Aiden Sr.’s parenting style is horrendous), but nothing so dark as to make me wimp out. I don’t know how the author does it, but in each book I vacillate between hatred for Aiden Sr. and a growing sense of respect as I see him soften at times when it comes to his family. He’s a crazy guy, no doubt about it!
I wasn’t sure whose story I wanted first more...Conor’s or Brennan’s, but I’m very pleased to see that Brennan is next in line!
I enjoyed this book much better than the others. Definitely kept your attention more and gave more details. For this I gave a higher rating, but am still frustrated that the unanswered questions from the previous books haven't been dealt with. One of them was lightly touched on but was moved on from before getting the answers. I'm all for teasing readers but only for so long. Loved the characters in this book including the little interludes.
Again, another good installment to the series. The romance felt a licking lacking compared to everything else going on though. I also couldn't get on board with the flashbacks to Aela and Declan in the past. Maybe if they were longer scenes or ones that felt important to the story but most of them didn't and instead just felt like more ways to prolong getting to see them together in the present.
"I should have seen the signs in his behavior around her, but I’d been a fool. A stupid, naive fool."
5 Filthy Dark Stars!!! Serena knows how to write characters with depth and her stories suck you in.
Declan is the black sheep of his family and totally misunderstood. He likes things that no one else in his family likes and is sort of looked down on for it. He's deeply damaged but there's a layer there that has depth. Aela is a strong woman, who tries to make the most of her situations. And when these two come together... it's intense to say the least.
This is the first series I've read by Serena, but I can say it won't be the last that's for sure! I fell in love with Declan. I fell in love with the story, the plot, the twists... you get it! Just go one click the book immediately!
Oh Declan… What can I say, I loved this book. Declan and Aela’s story was the perfect addition to the Five Pointers World. When I first started this adventure Finn was hands down my favorite. Now, Declan is.
A love story that was always meant to me gets me every time. It took over a decade for Declan to get what he wanted but it was worth it. Seeing the change in Declan from a hard mob general to a father was amazing. He hid his softer side, became who his family needed but when his family grew bigger he became who he was meant to be. Aela and Seamus were his saving grace.
Aela knew what her life was in the Five Pointers world. You can’t hide from them for long. In the previous books we learned that Family is what they cherious the most. Seamus is family, and no one messes with family. Aela was always stubborn and followed her own path, and it’s always led back to Declan.
Get ready for the action and the romance. Serena has brought both to the party once again. One of the best parts. Our Five Pointers world and Satan Sinners world are colliding once more. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next for all of them.
I've fallen in love with Serena Akeroyd's stories in a very short time period, and now I can't imagine not having them in my life. Filthy Dark is another masterpiece that I couldn't get enough of to be honest. Declan & Aela belonged together, but there were too many lies, secrets that don't make friends & deceit for that to happen when they were younger so they went their separate ways. Now they're quite a bit older, and Aela isn't letting anyone mess with her son or herself so she has no fear when standing toe to toe with anyone trying to hurt her baby. Declan may be a made man but he's different than anyone else in his family (a tad more sensitive), so he didn't get mad at Aela for her choices that affected him. These two definitely deserve a second chance, but it isn't an easy road of course. So, how does it all pan out?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Its a story of seperation and reconciliation. Love cannot be erased, changed or forgotten. Declan and Aela had a love exactly the same way. Their love is unconditional , went through tough times but as they say Fortune favours the Brave, They were brave enough to give their love a second chance.
I particularly loved Aela, how strong ad independent she has become from a naive innocent teenager. She has become a highly respected artist and a role-model her son can look up to.
I was quite impressed by Seamus character, the way his character is built is extraordinary. I loved him so much , Iam secretly rooting out for more scenes between him and Aidan.Sr.
Declan's love for arts and his vulnerability made me fall in love with his character.
All in all this book was everything I waited and wanted for and much more.
