Three years ago, I became a shell of the girl I'd once been, left to pick up the pieces of my soul. I’d decided I wasn’t going to let anyone walk all over me or bring me down, and I was surviving just fine. But then I met him. Masen Brown.

I call him Barbie, though. Or Pudding Face. Or Walking STD. The list of insults goes on and on, I hate him that much. He’s rotten to the core, a bully, a womanizer, and the cockiest guy I’ve ever met.

I’m going to teach him his place. One way or another.

He doesn’t give in without a fight. He strikes back each time, though I’m not one to give up or be intimidated. He’s going to see he’s finally met his match in me.

So, either he'll learn his lesson, or I’m going to make him learn it.

This book is a spin-off. It can be read as a standalone, but it is recommended to read Bullied (Bullied #1), Pained (Bullied #2), Damaged (Bullied #3), and Trapped (Bullied #4) before reading this book to get a better understanding of the story and characters. It includes sensitive themes and situations that may be triggering for some readers, so caution is advised.

Honestly, I'm disappointed that Melissa fell for Mason.
The idea of the book is literally the same, the male protagonist has a sob story which is why he is such a jerk and the female protagonist is also "damaged" and they both hate each other at first but then they realize how similar they are, so they fall in love.
The only thing I liked about this book is that it showed how drugs can affect a person's life and his/her loved ones.
Eli was probably the only likable character.
In the book, when Melissa starts to fall in love with Mason and realizes how unjust she had been towards Sarah and Jessica when they fell for Hayden and Blake respectively, it was sort of an explanation for all the people(including me) who said "Why did they fall in love with them? They were treated so badly."
I found it boring because the plot is basically the same.

This particular book I have been waiting for months and I was so excited when it finally arrived on my kindle to read. If there is one bullymance series that I would recommend, it would be Vera Hollins - Bullied Series. Scarred is Book #5 and this one features our two snarkiest characters - I have always loved the hate banter between these two main characters Mason and Melissa. This is also the last of the friendships and I assume will be our final book. This one would have to be the most angsty one out of the series as both Mason and Melissa have a lot of rages and they cover up their emotions with anger and barbs. For Melissa, her parents don't speak and her brother Steven has turned into a serious drug addict and lost interest in the world - which we later see breaks Melissa's heart and we have an OMFG moment during the story. When Melissa's anger gets her in hot water at school, she is given the choice to sign up to a mentoring program or have the suspension on her permanent record which could hinder her college applications. Her buddy she is given is a quadriplegic boy called Eli who we later learn happens to be none other than Mason's little brother. I did like that the author Vera didn't make Mason and Melissa buddy-buddy so quickly and overnight which made the story more believable as the hate could be seen rising from the pages until about half to 3/4 the way through when a slight ray of sunshine starts to peek through for Mason and Melissa. I still have to admit Book #4 Trapped by Vera Hollins was my favorite of the series, but Book #5 Scarred is a close second.

I like sarcastic people, my BFF is the queen of sarcasm, and making fun of me is her favorite hobby but it was overdone here, the heroine instead of being funny, became annoying.

I know sarcasm was a coping mechanism for her but she was trying so hard to be the funny quirky friend, it seemed fake and it gets old real quick.

Plus the hero was a  walking cliche, a high school bad boy with manwhore tendencies and mommy issues.

There are so many things going on in this book, It worked in Wattpad because the chapters needed to be more action-filled but for me, it was over the top.

•  this book is a recycled version of her previous books in the serie.

• Plus it's very long more than 500 pages and it gets boring and repetitive.

• There is nothing new in this version that wasn't in the Wattpad one.

I was looking forward to the story of Melissa and Mason aka Satan and Barbie. And how I enjoyed their unequal struggle. Hollins knows better than anyone how to write their blunt conversations.
Melissa has gone through something terrible in the past that makes her reject the male gender in every possible way, especially Mason. Circumstances force her to spend time with his brother and get to see a different side of her nemesis and vice versa.
Mason hides his true self, which I didn't expect. In the other books I found him annoying, a real bully. Melissa is a tough girl with a big mouth. She just keeps going and treating Mason like shit. Later I understood her attitude, she had her own struggles to deal with. I'm sorry what happened to her family, I cried a lot. There were so many emotions, not just with Satan and Barbie, and that changed my mind about these two. They were both broken, in their own way.
When the tension between them subsides, Melissa still can't give in to Mason's charms. Little by little, her wall is crumbling and Mason manages to reassure her when they are more attracted to each other. But it takes a lot of time and trust to fall in love. And if they do... Yes! Finally. They are a great couple.
I loved every word in this story and I find this the best book in the Bulled series. Thank you Vera Hollins for this wonderful story.

Scarred (Bullied Series book 5).
Release date: 30th August, 2021.
Rating: 4 Golden Stars.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Who would have thought that Satan and Barbie would end up together.
I have said this before and I would say it again, Vera has a way of making a demon into a saint. She's such an amazing author. I definitely enjoyed this read and look forward to her next book.

Masen and Mel's story is like TNT, they are true enemies, they hate each other, yet, she is a strong woman but somehow she is becoming the bully, even though she has a great heart. Masen is one of her brother's friends and the one on the receiving end, the story develops after a tragedy and they find a way to survive. The characters are fantastic, I really liked them all from the series, I am enjoying them. It's not the average enemies-to-lovers bully romance, your heart will be tested.

This was an enjoyable read.

The plot of the story was engaging and dynamic. Melissa and Masen's bickering was quite funny yet serious to read and understand. I found it better than the last four books in the series. Both Melissa and Masen's trauma, difficulties, and weaknesses were covered by anger and sarcasm.

Melissa was such a strong female main character. She was really fun to read. I loved how she never ever gave up. She always gave back Masen what he deserved and showed him his right place. She loved her brother Steven to the core, but never did she step back from showing him his place, never did she let him go without knowing that he made a mistake. I loved her positive character arc. How she took Eli's care and did not make him feel like he's not normal is amazing. She had her flaws, what made her human.

Masen was absolutely unlikeable character for me in the starting and I think it was supposed to be like that. He somewhat became bearable in the middle and towards the end, I could somewhat connect to him just became how he took care of his family, Eli. He is still in a grey area for me.

Rest all the characters were enjoyable. The special characters who stood out the most were Steven and Eli. Both of them were beautifully written and it was so sad that Steven had to go.

The chemistry both, Melissa and Masen shared was good. It was a joy to read them bicker among themselves to the end, even after they were together, not to mention how funny they gave each other nicknames, haha.

Overall, I would def recommend this book, the best in the series for me, however, don't forget to check the trigger warnings before deciding to read the book.

until next book,

This book may have just become my favourite of this series.
Mason and Mel bickering is one of the best things to read ever.
This beautifully emotional story of love, loss and growing up really had me captivated from the first page.
These two go on an incredible journey and you are going to love every moment.

Once again Vera has outdone herself. This story was emotional and heart warming 🥰 her characters are very thought out and throughout the story both of them develop. I am so sad that this is the last book in this series, this is one of my favourite series and will be for a long time ❤️ I can't wait to see what other books Vera will be writing 😍

Wow! I love every one of the books in this series by Vera. Each couple is so broken and has their own story to tell and it’s all beautiful. I loved learning more about Melissa and Masen’s story! I was so intrigued when I would read their bickering and strong dislike for each other and couldn’t wait to read their story. It was so realistic and traumatic and beautiful. Their banter was hilarious and when they both finally dropped their guards… amazing to see!!

I received an ARC directly from the author and this is my honest, voluntary review.

I read this one for the second time and I liked it a lot better than the Wattpad version of it.(If you have read the orginal/Wattpad version, you know exactly what I am talking about) Masen is my second favourite MC in the series preceded by Blake.

I loved the love-hate relationship Mel and Masen had. How Masen, even though a hot head himself, was a lot more relaxed with Melissa. Melissa's anger issues as well as her violent outbursts were a littlle triggering for me, and would give me anxiety at times. But I understand where she's coming from. However, I do not condone the way she treated her brother :(

I especially loved the little snippets of all of them (MCs from the other books in the series) having casual friendly encounters with eachother. Which were cute and wholesome!

I would rate this as my second most favourite in #Bullied series.

I know the difference between a good and bad book. I’ve been following the Bullied series for a while, I was afraid for it to end so I put off reading the book for months. But I took a leap of faith and finally read it. I most definitely do not regret it. It surpassed my expectations, Mel and Mason are possibly my favorite couple and this book was most definitely my favorite of the series! A beautiful finale that ends the series perfectly!

POV:h                                                    "So different, yet similar"
Masen & Mel (Melissa)
(Barbie & Satan)

This is a spin-off. It can be read as a standalone, but it's best to read in order to get a better understanding of the story and characters.

I've previously read this when Vera posted this series on Wattpad. It's great to revisit these characters in a publushed manner. So honoured to receive an Arc copy.

Now to put review into words that make sense.

We've met these two in the previous books and now it's their turn.
Masen and Mel have a volatile relationship, they can't stand each other. Mel has a snarky comeback comment every time.
I just love how her mind works.
She's a top student, on the student council. Parent's are divorcing, her brother, Steven, is an addict. Who she worries and fusses over.
But underneath her fake, yet convincing smile she puts on, is a broken, lost girl, with serious anger & trust issues, she's nobody's doormat, she has everyone's interests at heart, she's secretly a romantic. Plus, she's against bullying, but doesn't realise that she's becoming a bully herself, by bullying the bullies.
One of those bullies is Masen, one of her brother's friends.

Masen is the schools heartthrob, heartbreaker, womaniser. He's friends with Hayden & Blake and Steven, Mel's brother.
He keeps up with Mel and her 'barking dog' attitude towards him.
He keeps his home and school lives seperate. With good reason.

When Mel suspended from school, an incident involving her brother, she's put on a programme for individuals with anger issues. Paired up with a Eli, a teenage, shy, quadriplegic boy. She wants to help him. She's even more determined to see him when she finds out who his brother is.

But when tragedy strikes Mel's family, she thinks it's her fault, she's falling apart even more. Her mask and walls are crumbling. Masen sees something in her eyes, and vice versa with Mel.
Will they ever call a truce?
Could they heal each other?
Or will they continue to destroy each other?

Mel has such great friends in Sarah, Jess, Mateo, Kevin and Marcus. It was great to see them all get a bit more closer.
Eli is brilliant. The banter between him and Mel is heart warming. She treats him like an individual and like a little brother.
The things these two have been through, you can't help but feel for them. My heart shattered for them 💔 Ugly cried, like you wouldn't believe! And it was ugly, eye holes were leaking 😭 nose holes were gushing 🤧 Uuuughllyy! Even Hubby didn't know what to do 🤣

This is a brilliant read! A must read! The whole series is a must read!

Scarred was just the perfect enemies-to-lovers book that I needed right at the start of the month. Scarred is the fifth installment in the Bullied series. It revolves around Melissa and Masen. Melissa, the student body council's vice president who has a firm anti-bully agenda and Masen, the bully obviously.

I loved loved loved the first half of the book so much. The first half of the book was the 'enemies' part where Melissa and Masen just couldn't stop bickering or sneering at the sight of each other. Melissa's insults and comebacks were top freaking tier. I actually noted some of them down.

Melissa was such an amazing character. I was soo excited for Mel's book because I knew she wouldn't have even given Masen a chance to breathe near her before she pounced on him. The back and forth between them was what I desperately needed and Vera gave just that. I also finally found a character that cringed at almost everything just like me! The way Melissa kept reminding her and her friends to not do sappy things sounds like exactly what I do in real life😭

For the second half of the book where the 'lovers' part would begin I was a little doubtful that Melissa and Masen would loose their character and act all mushy mushy but thank god that didn't happen. They both did change, Masen more than Melissa. Melissa was aggressive but Masen was suddenly calm and caring, I liked that so much.

Steven's character was such so chaotic through out the whole series, I was so sure that he was going to drop dead any moment and well.... he did. I don't even know when and how I got so attached to his character because wow I cried a lot when he died.

Overall, this book was a good one and I'm so happy my reading month started out awesome! <3

I LOVED THIS BOOK.

So much more than Trapped, that’s for sure. Hated that book btw I have a review for it so...

But back to this book.

MASEN WAS SUCH A SWEETHEART I LOVED HIM.

The way he cared for his brother, the things he did for him, they were all so, so sweet and the way he treats Melissa after they aren’t uh, at each other’s throats, was to die for.

Melissa on the other hand, was a total badass Queen. I loved her character, and her character development was off the charts. The way she acts to cover up how she really feels was something I can relate to very well. Although my cover up is different lmao.

Melissa is very headstrong and is the type of character who holds her chin up high and I loved it in contrast to Jessica and Sarah.

I LOVE SARAH THOUGH SO MUCH DON’T WORRY SHE’S THE BEST.

Masen’s character development was also very smooth. You wouldn’t be able to tell where he started getting better and when he was completely different when it came to his feelings towards Melissa.

Steven’s death didn’t really hurt me, if I’m being honest. I was only upset when he died because of how Melissa felt. Her reaction is what really pained me, rather than his death.

ELI MY BABY I LOVE HIM.

He was adorable! I loved his character very much and his sadness towards his quadriplegia made my heart (or what’s left of it, anyways) hurt for him. His and Mel’s relationship was the best and I loved how he wasn’t ignorant. For a kid, anyways.

This book was amazing, and I loved it much more than I did Trapped.

I have been dying to get my hands on “scarred” since I finished “trapped”. As soon as this phenomenal story landed on my kindle I dived right in an I just couldn’t not put it down. “Scarred” is book 5 in the “bullied” series and let me tell you, vera Hollins did not disappoint!

Melissa is feisty and tough but not all is as it seems, melissa is haunted by traumas of her past. Melissa is living behind a mask and she will do whatever it takes to survive. Melissa is not only struggling with her personal demons but her family life is also taking its toll on her too.

Mason was the hot guy that all the girls wanted. He appeared to have the perfect life popular, gorgeous but he was also a bully of the worst kind.

Melissa and Mason were so different yet they were the same. They both were battling their demons, and they both lived behind masks, they hated each other but sometimes there’s a very thin line between love and hate.

I throughly enjoyed Melissa and Masons story, Vera Hollins had me on tender hooks throughout the entire experience. it’s certainly a story I won’t forget anytime soon. This is a story about two broken souls trying to find their way through life while dealing with traumas of their past. It’s a story of growth and finding your inner strength.

I cannot recommend this series enough. Although this can be read as a stand-alone, I do recommend you start with book one if you’ve not started this series yet.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Amount of sex 1.5 / 5
How explicit is the sex 2.5 / 5
Story 5 / 5
Overall: 5 / 5

Scarred is the fifth book in the Bullied series written by author Vera Hollins. This angsty enemies-to-lovers romance can be read as a standalone, although I recommend reading the series in chronological order. I believe it will give you a better foundation to appreciate and understand the background stories. Just know that it’s only a suggestion.

Scarred tells the story of Melissa “Satan” Brooks and Masen “Barbie” Brown, and I’ve been looking forward to reading their story for a while now. Melissa likes to be in control, can be snarky, and seems to become angry very easily. She’s loyal to her friends (Sarah and Jessica), but she hasn’t been completely truthful about her past. However, we soon find out that she has a good reason to be.

Masen is best friends with Sarah and Jessica’s boyfriends, and he portrays himself as a suave ladies' man. However, he’s so much more than that. Melissa soon discovers this other side of him, and she begins to grow feelings for him. Her only problem is letting go of her anger and learning to trust.
Scarred’s storyline was an intense and emotional page-turner, and I had trouble putting my kindle down. Melissa and Masen’s story is one of my favorites in the series, and I just loved the ending!

It’s a definite add to your TBR list!

Thank you @verahollins and @greyspromo for the review copy that allowed me to see this series to an end.
Scarred is the fifth book in the series, centered around Masen and Mell. For those who read the other books it was obvious that those two will get together, even if they fought all the way. Scarred is more than just a romance book. It talks about violence, past trauma, rape, phisical disabilities and more. Please before reading the book look at the warnings.
The action is a bit more tame compared to the other books in terms of fighting and the like, BUT we do have in the first half a character death that shocked me because it was so unexpected. The second half has a bit more action and it focuses on the way Mell reflects on her past behaviour and her feelings for Masen.
Mell was an interesting character for sure, with lots of problems both past and present, but she works on them with a snarky response and a drive to help. The only thing that I was not a fan of was her language. I liked that she understood in the end that violence is not always the key and we are showed a more intimate side of her rather than the fierce, always ready to kick your ass girl.
Masen was a nice surprise. Portrayed as a player, always with a girl on his arm and an insult on his lips, this book gives readers a chance to actualy like the guy. In private he is shown as a devoted big bro and as a guy who does have a heart.

She was the girl who was plagued by demons, the one who nobody truly knew.

He was the guy who had a perfect life, that all the girls swooned over yet held a darkness that stalked the weak.

Of course they hated each other, baited each other, but what if one day the light was switched on ?

This is the fifth book in the bullied series and is a spin off, so you don't need to read anything before it, buuuut you will benefit no end if you do read the others books which are Bullied, Pained, Damaged and Trapped.

We met Mellissa and Masen as side characters in previous books. I'm so glad that they got a time to shine, to tell their truth.

I'm not sure what I expected from them, but with Mel, I think I fell for the act, the mask, the face she presented to the world. Once you see beyond her wise cracks and harsh hateful words she becomes a whole new character. Masen is both brutal yet undeserving of her anger, as for why, that you will have to find out for yourselves.

Just know you are in for an emotional rollercoaster of a read. I laughed, I cried, I paused until I could breathe again. The words on the pages pack a powerful punch.

This series is one I will always reccomend to like minded people. Its simply amazing. My words don't do it justice.

Vera Hollins is a one click author through and through. I can't wait to see what she's working on next!

Barbie and Satan finally together. ❤
I have been following the bullied series and its updates when it was getting updated on wattpad. I enjoyed Masen and Melissa's bickering and fights from the first book and when Vera announced that these were going to be a 5 part series with Jess and Blake in the one after Hayden and Sarah I knew Masen and Melissa would get one too and this book was the one I got excited to read more. Melissa has been my favorite character from the entire series and because she refused to be a punching bag for anyone. And my interest peaked in the backstory of masen we a little glimpse of Eli in Trapped. I enjoyed how they were at each other's throat and trust me the way Melissa took Masen's phone and messed with his Instagram and Social media and also his ringtone, OMG that was the best. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Also I loved their character development. Felt bad for Steven and the pain Mel had to go through. But Eli just stole my heart and he is the cutest and the loveable character in the entire series. ❤❤❤❤
It hurts that this series has ended. I wish we get a epilogue of happily ever after someday. I do wanna read more about their future because these characters and their journey means so much to me. I wish Vera decides to bless the fandom the pleasure of happily ever after into the future someday. ❤❤❤
Also this was my third re-read of the entire series.

This is the 5th book in this phenomenal series as well as the series finale. This is Masen and Melissa’s story. Melissa is feisty, tough, and headstrong, and she has endured a trauma which has left her a shell of the girls she used to be, and when her anger gets her into trouble at school, she is give the offer if being suspended which will affect her future, or enter a mentoring program, which she ops for and her mentor is Eli who is Masen’s little brother. Masen is a bully, cocky playboy, but there is a sweet side to him when is comes to his brother. Both Masen and Melissa are broken souls, but both have strong personalities, which causes them to clash. Masen seas another side to Melissa, as she does with him, and he works hard to break through her walls. This is a beautifully written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with angst, bullying, family, tension, loss, healing, and love, which leads to an entertaining and riveting page turner. In my opinion, this is the best story out of the series, and I loved them all. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This book is horrendous. Truly. I mean the whole series is really just terrible but I had better expectations for Melissa… like seriously? Falling for the bully? When u mock ur friends for doing the same like at least dont be a hypocrite. Anywhom moving onto the real shitbag of the show Masen.

I have no clue how Melissa ended up with this guy he is a bully and - no his ‘tragic past’ does not redeem him. This dude has sexually harassed, sent her a dick pic?? As if it was the funniest joke over and held her against a wall and grinded on her saying she wanted his dick? And she was literally frozen, TEARING up and ur telling me these two end up together? Her last ex SA’d/ tried to SA her yet she gets with a guy who did the same thing.. really gross honestly like i think this author is just a total misogynst at this point the way she puts the female mcs in the worst possible relationships. For your own sake, avoid this book at all costs

Well first off can I just say that I have never had the privilege to talk with such a personable author,
Vera is so humble and was really patient with me in a technological crisis.
Right the book, I received this as an ARC and trust me I am leaving as many reviews in book sites as I can.
OK this is not a smooshy romance, it is in keeping with the other books in the series (which I recommend you read in order).
This is hard hitting and honest and will probably reflect some readers lives
This is a must read for those who love a teen romance where the H and h have much to overcome and struggle to trust, love doesn't come easy.
I actually cried and laughed to this book.
PLEASE READ you won't be disappointed

Vera Hollins has done it again with another amazing story! The characters and storyline are brilliantly well written. I absolutely love Melissa and Masen's story. The tension and banter between these two are unreal and often hilarious. One of my favourite scenes is in the cafeteria when Melissa changed Masen's ringtone to barbie girl (as Melissa likes to call him barbie) I shed some tears whilst reading this book but they were definitely worth it in the end! Highly recommend to read this book and especially if you have read the other books in this series from Vera Hollins and if you haven't read the other books, what are you waiting for?

My favorite book in the series! Masen and Mellisa’s bickering and banter was everything. She obviously fell for him in the end cause well, it’s romance.

I loved that she was a strong female lead who had her own problems, going through life as the sarcastic free girl who ‘didn’t give a damn about anyone’

It was an emotional and fun book. These two really were enemies to lovers, one of my favorite tropes. I cried for some parts in the book.

Steven was everything, and so was Eli. I didn’t hate Masen, I hated how he acted at times, but there was character development, and we all love that.

I love it! I recommend it!

It is so surreal to me that this amazing series is finished, but my oh my what an amazing ride it’s been.

I was honored to get an ARC of Scarred in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Sarah and Haden and Blake and Sarah… but Melissa and Masen are amazing. I love them so much. They have both overcome so much, and how they grow and support each other is amazing. They literally go from hating each other to loving each other so deeply. I will miss all se characters deeply.

Scarred is the perfect conclusion to the Bullied series, it’s a standalone story but it makes more sense if you read the books in order.

What a awesome bully romance . Vera is a pretty new author to me but has quickly become one of my go to authors for one click books .If you are looking for a story full of unexpected surprises and rollercoasters , as well as wonderful characters , look no further . Mel and mason have been added to my list of favorite couples I have read in the past year . My emotions were all over the place, I literally devoured this phenomenal book in a little over 3 hours straight. I absolutely love bully series and this has quickly become one of my favorites.
